Herc Thinks HUMAN TARGET Is Only So Much Cardboard!!
I am – Hercules!!
Very very loosely based on the DC Comics character, action-adventure “Human Target” follows a high-priced undercover bodyguard for hire named Christopher Chance, played by the always-watchable Mark Valley (“Boston Legal,” “Fringe”). His associates are played by actors also fresh off better projects, namely Chi McBride (“Boston Public,” “Pushing Daisies”) and Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”).
The supertrain-centric pilot, written by Jonathan Steinberg (“Jericho”) and screened last summer at Comic Con, had a diverting scene or two with Haley’s character but truthfully seemed to add up to a big wad of generic TV action nonsense.
To my eyes and ears it’s not appreciably better than NBC’s recent revival of “Knight Rider,” and maybe a little worse than NBC’ recent reinvention of “Bionic Woman” – but it’ll be airing after “American Idol,” so I’ve little doubt it will prove a big spring hit.
Critics are mixed:
USA Today says:
… McBride and Haley provide great side notes, but the center has to be held by Valley, and he does it well. …
The New York Times says:
… a cross between a cartoon and a Saturday matinee … struggling to capture the jaunty tone it’s striving for. … the writing, in terms of both humor and plotting, isn’t at the level of the show’s role models. …
The Los Angeles Times says:
… Steinberg does an admirable job preserving the smart-mouth humor and ker-pow, splat fun while creating story lines and characters grounded in the alpha-male charm that made guys like Pierce Brosnan, Bruce Willis and Robert Conrad so popular. …
The Chicago Tribune says:
… zzzz … There are a lot of explosions and running around on display here, but there's just not much substance …
The Washington Post says:
… seems charmingly assembled from leftover "Magnum P.I." and "Spenser for Hire" polyforms kept in a storage bin somewhere. … The "Human Target" is cardboard.
The San Francisco Chronicle says:
… an action-packed drama that entertains with ease. …
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:
… Making the show believable is not high on the writers' priority list. … Valley has long displayed a flinty appeal and here he adds a knowing sense of humor. But it will take more than that to get viewers interested enough to take aim at "Human Traget" on a weekly basis.
The Newark Star Ledger says:
… as played by the charming, rough-and-tumble Mark Valley, he's a very entertaining action hero. …
The Salt Lake Tribune says:
… the show's pacing is choppy, and the incidents are so unbelievable that it's hard to suspend your disbelief when Chance is "dispatching" bad guy after bad guy. Worst of all, Chance is a breezy hero who winks in the face of danger rather than sweating through it. He's prone to making jokes and blowing his way through the fight scenes and episodes of peril, which siphons any suspense from the scenes.… looks like a lazy, average-looking action set piece that pales in comparison to much more thrilling shows, such as Fox's "24." This is one target the producers completely missed.
The Boston Herald says:
… the closest thing on TV to swigging a keg of Red Bull. It’s one hour of pure energy, a blast of fun action and stunts. …
The Boston Globe says:
… perfectly adequate action fluff. It’s fast-paced, chock full of fight choreography, and filled with gimmicks including an out-of-control train and an upside-down airplane. The plots are completely inane; you won’t want to think very hard about the logic of the killers or of Chance. Better to just sit still and enjoy all the crazy movement. …
The Hollywood Reporter says:
… a more accurate description of the character, at least as it has been drawn for TV, would be Human Shield, not Human Target. … In each episode, the story is weighed down by mechanical technicalities that are far-fetched enough to make an engineer's eyes glaze over. At the same time, writer/executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg and executive producer/director Simon West compensate by injecting enough action and suspense to make watching a genuine thrill ride.
Variety says:
… Maintaining this level of firepower obviously poses a challenge, but two episodes in, anyway, the execution appears to be right on target. …

9 p.m. Wednesday. Fox.

when Tom Berenger isn't busy being the poor man's Tom Berenger. I've been debating whether or not to watch this. It's got Six from BSG apparently, and I like Chi and Jackie Earl Haley, but I don't know if that's enough with someone as bland as Valley.
-
He's definitely slumming.

They should've brought back Springfield for this new series.
by triple_j_72
What? Bad idea?
-
A bit meh. I always liked the concept, but execution always seemed a bit flat.
Sounds like the TV show copies this admirably. -

The commericals for this gives off a wannabe Bourne vibe!
by hollywoodhellraiser
It tries too hard and comes off desperate and lame!
-
Friday there is going to be a telethon hosted by George Clooney for Haiti. It's two hours and starts at 8. Says it will be on all broadcast channels except CW. I know it's only a tv show but I want to see Dollhouse, dangit. Besides that I'm tired of people who make millions per picture or episode coming on tv and begging us to send money. Send your own damn money Clooney.
-
I don't care what anybody says, the Rick Springfield Human Target show was awesome! The best part about this new show is that the Springfield one might be available on DVD now! Cool!
-
Yes the Dollhouse finale is delayed. January 29th is the new end date.
-
Or is it the other way around?
-
But I never watched Knight Rider (knew it was going to be shit) and this doesn't sound like it has anything to offer me either. I'll pass.
-
I believe she may only be in the first episode as the one he's protecting. I though she was in it, too, from the constant use of the pilot in commercials. And yes, I was disappointed to notice that, too.I'll give this a shot. I can't imagine it can be on a level of crappiness equal to the new "Knight Rider"...
-
So I'm guessing from the trailer that he is NOT a master impersonator like he was in the comics? Hence the whole reason he was called "The Human Target"? I'm amazed at how people will buy the rights to a comic character & throw everything out...
-
Many years ago I shot a short in which Mark Valley played a modest part and when the boom guy didn't show he stepped in to hold the mic. Any actor who pitches in like that gets a big thumbs up in my book.
-
He has a major film career now and he's taking a supporting role in a crappy FOX show?
-

I really hope this remake gets the Springfield series released o
by spyguy
I still have the episodes on an old VHS tape, but I'd love cleaner copies. I don't care how bad the Valley series is or isn't...Everybody needs to make it a big hit long enough to get Rick Springfield's HUMAN TARGET out on DVD.
-
forget who asked but there's your answer. though if you watch the show i'm surprised you didn't already know because they said "in 2 weeks" during the "next time" preview on friday night.
-
Does anyone remember Keen Eddie? Best Mark Valley show ever.
-
is one cool dude and should be Captain America, and the Rick Springfield version of Human Target was a great show. There is one episode where he has to impersonate his estranged father, very good. Hope it makes it to DVD, but looking forward to the new series too.

What? Haley ISN'T playing a skeevy child molestor...?
by nasty in the pasty
First time for anything.
-
You take the worst review, from the Post no less, and use that for your headline. While most of the other reviews give it a decent grade. Nice.
-
Herc, it's not 1979 anymore. It's 2010, and those are called Bullet Trains, and they're real in case you missed it. Seriously, I saw the preair of this, and it's a helluva lot of fun. Mark Valley deserves more leading man stuff, as he's always enjoyable to watch no matter what he's doing. Kind of like Jason Statham. He can be in the worst movie, (Dungeon Siege, Crank, Crank 2) and you can still find something to enjoy about whatever character he's playing.
-
The previews for the show do make it look like cardboard. Like a bad syndicated show from the 90s where it's just cheap thrills and cheap humor. Mark Valley does look like a generic action hero. Yet, the premise interests me. Still, I wouldn't be bothered if it does suck ass.
-
This must be pretty watchable then.
-
or should be.
-
Mormon retards
-
I was saying that in the Joe Johnston Captain America talkback. Mark Valley also has an extensive military background. He's note perfect for Cap.
-
a poor man's daniel craig
-
It was fun. I was hoping this would be the more the same only with more action. Mark Valley could make it watchable the same way Nathan Fillion makes Castle watchable.
-
http://tinyurl.com/yhvr7q9
-
Seriously, a drama action show, and they give it a somber piano solo? Sometimes I forget just how fucked up the early 90's really were.
-
In 'Battlestar Galactica' as Zack Adama. In 'Human Target' as Christopher Chance. In 'Forever Knight' as Nick Knight. He should have his own tv show, not a series, just a whole bunch of sci-fi action/adventure pilot episodes that either die and disappear, or become a series starring someone else. The sci-fi action/adventure version of 'Love, American Style'.
-
And I barely remember Super Force. That intro just brought back that intro memory from the dead - where it should have stayed.
-
great fight scene between chance and the assassin waiter. hopefully the series will get better during the next few eps. better than bionic woman BTW.
-
What's wrong with silly fun? We can't watch 'Doctor Zhivago' every night.
-
ROCKED. What's wrong with you Herc? It had two BSG alums, Rorshach and Fringe's John Scott and you don't like it? I guess it needed Amy Acker for it be worthy of a thumbs up. So predictable.
-
... the show looks like an ok way to pass an hour (though I miss the disguise aspect from the comic), really like the actors, but the theme music is just TERRIBLE (graphics are good though).
-
Valley should be Captain America for years. Also, the pilot rocked, and the death of the assassin was well-done and quite cool. This show doesn't deserve the silly Herc-bashing it got.
-
so did he just do a tiny cameo or will they do like Alias's first 2 seasons where the end of one episode leads into the next one?
-
Oh, and the new HUMAN TARGET pilot was a lot of fun and even Mrs. SpyGuy dug it. Herc must've been in a snippy post-DOLLHOUSE mourning funk when he wrote up his off-target review.
-
So many plot holes I felt like my brain was leaking.
-
First we have Pat Robinson who thinks the Haitian earthquake is caused by their pact with the Devil. Then we have Danny Glover who says it's because Gaia got dissed at Copenhagen and earthquakes are caused by global warming. Thankfully, he can chill out with with homeboy Chavez.
-
About what I expected, and I didn't expect much. Valley doesn't show any real charisma or character in this pilot. I'll give it another episode or two, but once Law & Order: SVU returns with new episodes in that same Wednesday night timeslot, "Human Target" becomes expendable. I hope it gets better, but this show could be a lot more compelling with a more atmosphere, less cheap CGI, and more intelligent scripting. The entire plot felt very blah. I'd rather have had the pilot setup the character of Christopher Chance instead of just the formulaic premise. Jackie Earle Haley was enjoyable, and I'd rather have the show center around his character. His is the interesting one who I'd like to delve into more. Chance just seems like the cookie-cutter action hero with a few whimsical quips and crazy stunts that save the day. I can see a LOT MORE potential with Guerrero than Chance.
-
A great fun hour. Big explosions and pretty damn good fight scene between Chance and the assassin that I've seen on TV...well ever really, really well shot and pretty fluid. Really got into the show. I'll finally have something to watch on wednesdays.
-
And I dig the theme music too.
-
I enjoyed the pilot alot, the show looks cool and Chance is fun to watch...
-
same reason he took that bit part in semi pro when an actor has been out of the loop for over 15 years, when he gets a chance to again show his stuff, he is gonna want to show his range is he too good for this crap? probably...but the suits dont know that personally, i hope the guy gets to work non stop for the next 20 years or more and im still pissed that he didnt get a globe nom for watchmen...hard to do all your acting behind a mask, and still be the fans fav character in a movie
-
Explain?
-
it's The Equalizer?
-
get real
-
They were obvious when I was watching it, and honestly most of the show has already left my mind, but off the top of my head:
- He routinely takes guns away from guys and beats the hell out of them, so when the assassin runs out of bullets in his gun Chance decides to.... run away? What?
- They crawl through the duct thingy to get to the other car and run into the assassin who is in there why exactly? Why in the world would the assassin who is chasing them at full speed decide to slowly crawl through a duct to catch them?
- Once they disconnect the car they're in and the rest of the train rolls away, why not just do that again with the car they're in now?
- More importantly, why not just kill the engine? The brakes don't work, but so what? You've got miles and miles of track to slow down. Maybe there's not enough friction in a bullet train, but the other set of cars seem to slow down just fine once disconnected from the engine car.
The show ignores its own logic and makes choices that are stupid in order to create more action. Call it plot holes, or whatever, it amounts to frustrating viewing. -
I liked it and was well better then knight rider ,i just want more back story.
-
This show has a good cast so I'll give it a few more episodes.Mark Valley would've made a good Captain America a few years ago. "Chuck" actor Ryan McPartlin(Captain Awesome) is the perfect choice.
-
The best parts so far are the ones with Jackie Earl Haley and the Doc Cottle cameo was fun, but all in all this feels like a lightweight version of Burn Notice. That is, the show's watchable, but I've seen the premise handled better.
-
I thought it was all right. I like Valley, Haley, McBride and you can never go wrong with Tricia Hefner. I'll get banned for this but I thought it was more interesting than Dollhouse ever was.
-
the music too. Will watch more.
-
And then switched to the Fringe ep I hadn't watched from last week. It just seemed lifeless. Fully admit it may have been my mood, but I just couldn't get into it at all.
-
Eastern, southern, northern
No limeys for Cap -
So completely over the top and drawn out, complete with over the top death for the bad guy. Loved that scene, if they keep fights like this constantly in the show they'll grab me as a viewer.
-
He could have made himself look like a pneumatic brake assembly and safely stopped the train. Kinda like a cross between McGyver and Terminator 2!
-
...and will watch more. It was slow in a couple places, but also pretty tense in a couple places. I like the premise and it didn't feel like anything else I watch right now. Plus, I dig Haley and the guy from Pushing Daisies.
-
Really gave it a 70's show vibe. Of course, the show itself didn't give off that vibe, but I still thought it was good brainless fun.
-
I completely agree. This sort of premise has been done sooooo much better before. Burn Notice, MacGyver, and The Equalizer are prime examples. The difference is that those shows had intelligent characters and clever scripts. They didn't resolve all their problems by killing people and blowing things up. In fact, Michael Westin and Robert McCall prefer to exhaust all other solutions before shooting to kill. MacGyver never picked up a gun. Christopher Chance feels like a real lightweight James Bond, but not as well developed or written. The show's trying to combine the Magnum, P.I. or Burn Notice style of a hero and his disagreeable crew helping people in need, but at least as of this pilot, there's no spark or chemistry amongst them. The show also doesn't seem to have very high production values, especially compared to other Fox primetime dramas. And yes, the theme music sucks ass. If they're going to stick with that music, I'd rather they not have an opening title sequence at all. C'mon, get Mike Post on the line! Man needs to eat! Again, I want to give this show a chance (no pun intended), but it's got a big mountain to climb before it wins me over as being worth my while. Best of luck to it.
-
He says the show is done with full orchestra, which is nice of the producers.
-
From Russia With Love *almost* just got dethroned for "best train fight ever".
-
"Supertrain" was a tv series in the '70. He's not talking about real trains.
-
really, with a show like this, what do you expect.. if you're going to sit down and watch this show then throw logic out the window.. just sit down and enjoy it.. i dont expect much from it... i was just pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was...
-
I'm not really taking this all that seriously and I didn't love the show THAT much. But I did enjoy it, and I'm bored, so here's some comments...Action stars/actors in these type of parts have been taking guns away from people "with their bare hands" forever. Calling that a problem now would mean it was a problem every other time it's been done as well.He was running away to protect the girl. The bad guy was crawling through the ducts because he was trying to find them. If you didn't see them in the cars, where would YOU look? I didn't get the impression that the bad guy was doing it slowly, either. He appeared up ahead pretty quickly. Why not just disconnect more cars? I really have nothing for that - maybe they were just too close to the tunnel for it to be affective by then. Why not just kill the engine? Well, how about they were hiding/running from someone trying to kill them for quite a while after she said they had less than twenty minutes with no way to contact the engine room, car, thing. Yeah, that's weak, but it wasn't high concept or anything. Then, once they could contact the engine car it was just too late to make a difference. That's what I thought while watching it anyway. But I did think the same thing at one point, about shutting the whole train down. I mean, the brakes were locked ON. So, yeah. I also liked the music and the throw back vibe of the production. A lot of it felt kind of 80's. Lastly, I always laugh when somebody calls out suits as not knowing what they're doing. So, you don't think Haley was hired BECAUSE somebody thought he was good? lol Why else would they hire him?
-
There, now that I've said Whedon liked it, you can bet Herc is getting a raging hard-on for the show. Which means later this week he'll change his tune and unzip his fly and blow a major load PRAISING episode two. Just wait and see!As for me, I thought the show was fun. Good cast, nice chemistry, solid production values, and some kick ass action -- like the train fight sequence which fucking rocked for a TV show. All in all, a very promising start.
-
I was expecting a more clever plot from the concept alone. Good cast, not much there.
-
Emerson Cod got a new gig, but couldn't be bothered to watch the show.
-
The only good thing I remember while playing the demo for Dark Void was McCreary's excellent score, other than that the game itself was kinda "Meh" (who the fuck says Meh anyways?)
-
Some of the holes people are mentioning are nit-picky as hell.
For, instance...
1. Taking guns from ppl with their bare hands.
Taking a firearm away from an individual is entirely plausible. Krav Maga teaches numerous techniques.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07jnqD8wvyE
2. Why run to the back of the train?
This is classic security training... isolate your client... identify the threat... and eliminate it. Chance was also trying to lure the hitman away from the other civilians.
3. The whole engine room contact, etc. The breaks scenario was discovered mid conflict. The train was traveling at such a speed it would not have slowed down in time for the tunnel turn.
4. It's a tv show. CSI, 24, NCIS, etc. are far from perfect. -
I have never seen the Equalizer and love Burn Notice, but I watched a few Macguyver episodes from the first couple seasons when I was in high school. Richard Dean Anderson is truly horrible. I loved the scense in the Simpsons episode where Sideshow Bob almost blows his plot because he cannot stomach MacGyver. I had other technophile friends who loved it, but outside of the cool techno-saves, the show was STUPID.
-
I don't see any other fanboys out there complaining about Jack Bauer unable to hit two terrorists out in the open in an alley, but he's able to shoot a padlock at 30ft. I like the pilot. I liked the fact that the hitguy seemed to be better than Chance. As for why they didn't disengage the last car again, I beleive there is only a short window from when you can disconnect the hydraulics in the front car, then separate the cars.
-
Con Air, Tomb Raider, Keen Eddie.... I knew the style looked very familiar. And yes I know all about SuperTrain, as I watched all 7 or 8 episodes of it when I was a kid.
-
So yes, he's too old to be Captain America now. If they had made a Cap film at least ten years ago, he would've been perfect, but now not so much.
-
One giant slice of Velveeta coming up.
-
Television has few shows made any more that have this action formula. I loved this show. The fight scene was 100x better then any "quick edit, what the hell was that" Bourne movie. FOX had some excellent Spy show on about 12 years ago. It was very "Bond-like",but I forgot the name. This show is just as good. Pure escapism! It is sad how many "procedural" crime shows have invaded TV. CSI is as boring as hell! Hey,let me cooton swab this dead corpse's asshole to see where he ate breakfast! Fuck That! I'll take "The Human Target"!
-
Herc, herpes isn't as bad as The Bionic Woman was. The pilot was fine. It was a fun 45 minute popcorn movie. Valley and McBride have a good back and forth, but Haley is the biggest scene stealer I've seen in a long time in this show. Here's hoping he stays on this show!
-

-
You may be referring to "Fortune Hunter"? Great show--unfortunately the lead, Mark Frankl(?) passed away several years ago. I'm afraid to get too attached to this show because the decent action series almost always get cut early.
-
It's fun, not all that serious, but it's not exactly stupid, either. Basically squeezing an action movie plot into a single hour. And from the looks of the previews for the next show, that's exactly what they're going for.And yes, there are just as many illogical things in the two-hour 24 premiere.
-
From the filming to the music to the costumes to the choice of graphic overlays, the whole thing screams 1993 to me.
-
It looks like the type of thing I'd watch on a Sunday night in high school or college. I have not been in the regular TV watching habit since 1999.
-
Never knew about Valley until Fringe so I gave this a shot. I really really enjoyed the pilot! If they can keep the energy going with a good back story that develops as the season goes on I think they have something here!
-
SIX was in it. But, fav scene was scary-tiny-man-Rorschach warding off two thugs by threating to kill their families. Good stuff.
-
It was like an old fashioned 80's action show. It kind of reminded me of the A-Team or Magnum PI or something like that. Some of the heavy brooding and sulking on modern TV dramas gets old. This was fun for a change. He kicks ass and saves the girl. The fight scene on the train was awesome.
-
didn't she say something about only the rear car having breaks? so even is they did disengage their car from the rest of the train, they wouldnt be able to slow it down
-
I wonder if the studio would be leery of the possible backlash against casting a non-U.S. actor to play Captain America.
-
If she said that, I missed it, but that would at least explain it a little bit.
-
Thought it was entertaining. Valley did a nice job. Nice to see Tricia Helfer any time I can.
-
He was in the shower pondering whatever it was he was pondering and his wife joined him and when he turned around it cut to his replacement. The pilot was pretty lame. But I'll check back occasionally to see how it's shaping up, I could easily get into it if things improve. Also, the intro animations are pretty nifty.
-
Some good action sequences and acting from the cast. Don't get the hate from the critics. Oh wait yes I do. It's not Mad Men. not that there is anything wrong with that show. But there is more than one kind of show out there.
-
Chase somehow switches with the main hostage ( Bag over the head for no logical reason) while the gunman has everyone held in one room. How does the gunman let this happen? Silly premise.
-

It seemed like they were aiming for a retro-80's feel...
by jaylenotookmyjob
...but without a hint of much needed irony. So it ended up just being stilted and odd. Like some old retired producers for Stephen J. Cannell somehow talked FOX into giving them one last assignment for oldtimes sake.
-
...got the retro-80's feel. I had the same impression.
-
...I got mad respect for this actor...he's the real deal.
-
Already gave it a season pass on my DVR. Not perfect, but perfectly entertaining. I get the feeling that JEH will not show up weekly but it'll be tits when he does. Best pilot episode I've seen in a while, not much tweaking needed here. For what it sets out to be, HUMAN TARGET scores. Just don't be a dick and nitpick it to death, ffs!
-
I seriously wonder about your objectivity. This show has Jackie Earle Freak'n Haley.
-
So far I really like it. Very surprised.
-
ah so that explains why it sounded like Terminator every now and then.
-
his name was in the opening credits sequence. its very rare reacuring characters are there, they usually get their names during the credits when the show is playing. it has happened before of course (Skinner in season 9 of X-Files) but its rare.
-
Definitely. And Jack Bauer can hit a lock more easily than a man because the lock ain't moving, and isn't shooting back.
-
The pilot had a fantastic fight and not much else but the second episode rocked. it even had that gorgeous wife of Brandon Routh's in it who was great in this seasons Dexter too! Hope she returns and if they keep this standard up then I'll happily drop HEROES and continue with this as a replacement!
-
Sadly, a bit too old for Cap. But he'd be a great Nick Fury. Does that make me racist?
-
I tells ya this show has legs...
Mark Valley. sharp. Chi, oh yes..
Question! (said Dwight Kurt Schrute III) How could any crit not like Kelly Leak as a secret 'puter hackin, killin machine?
Answer! They can't! -
all kinds of black belt with a red stripe or..ya know..whatever.
The man is a powerful actor..who does his craft good service...
I mean to say...
Holy cow inter-sex cock fight in the flight well...sweet. Somebody's takin a swan dive... -
Rethink. Restate. Your assumptions.
-
And yes, the music is pretty nifty, along with that fantastic intro animation. Not entirely crazy about it...just yet, but I can definitely see it going places. I'll keep watching for now, it's not like there's anything better on at the moment.
-
Ender, you said: "Sadly, a bit too old for Cap. But he'd be a great Nick Fury. Does that make me racist?"Considering that Nick Fury was created as a white character and remained that way for decades, till Marvel decided it needed to flick more cards into its politically correct hat, having Nick Fury being white again is no big deal to me.Frankly, as an old time comic reader, I never understood the change anyway. I mean, if Marvel wanted more Black characters, that's cool -- I have absolutely no problem with that. But if that's the case, then why not simply CREATE some new Black characters? Again, as an old time comic fan, I just hate when characters get "reinvented" over and over and over again, and the reinventions get sillier -- or have to become somehow more politically correct -- with each new incarnation. But that goes into my OTHER bitch which is you often get things (like comic companies) going for an easy out, trying to tinker with some old, existing property, as opposed to actually getting creative and making NEW things.
-
I haven't seen episode 1, but what I have seen of it, it is a hell of a lot better than Dollhouse, at its worst, and is more fluid than Dollhouse, at its best. Yes, Human Target is connect the dots so far, but we haven't allowed its makers to get into establishing any mythology yet, but I am guessing that the female villain in this episode is the start of establishing that mythology. Let's hope that she returns as his nemesis, and perhaps lover, or both.
-
Your 'holes' don't really stand up:
- He routinely takes guns away from guys and beats the hell out of them, so when the assassin runs out of bullets in his gun Chance decides to.... run away? What?
You obviously didn't notice that the assassin reached for another clip, meanwhile our hero didn't have one..
- They crawl through the duct thingy to get to the other car and run into the assassin who is in there why exactly? Why in the world would the assassin who is chasing them at full speed decide to slowly crawl through a duct to catch them?
You obviously didn't notice the massive pile of whatever they used to block the door, the vent was the only way in or out
- Once they disconnect the car they're in and the rest of the train rolls away, why not just do that again with the car they're in now?
Most likely lack of time..but true..this one is sorta 50/50
- More importantly, why not just kill the engine? The brakes don't work, but so what? You've got miles and miles of track to slow down. Maybe there's not enough friction in a bullet train, but the other set of cars seem to slow down just fine once disconnected from the engine car.
This is your only plausible plot hole
