Hercules Implores You To Watch Tonight’s Arnett-Enhanced First New PARKS AND RECREATION Of This Bold New Decade!!

Published at:  Jan 14, 2010 6:40:00 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

I got to see tonight’s “Parks and Recreation,” which could be the series’ funniest to date. So watch. Time Magazine listed “Parks” on its Top 10 list for 2009. CBS, ABC and The CW are just running repeats in the 8 p.m. hour.

NBC says:

Ann (Rashida Jones) sets Leslie (Amy Poehler) up on a blind date with a co-worker (guest star Will Arnett), which does not go as well as Leslie hoped. An old friend of Ann's (guest star Justin Theroux) makes Mark (Paul Schneider) feel insecure.

That’s no typo. “Iron Man 2” writer Justin Theroux guest stars.

If you can’t make it out, this is the ad Ron asked April to post:

Job, assistant to a man. Low pay. Apply at Parks Department.

Also, Jack Black’s on tonight’s “Community,” which I have not seen:

“Community”: 8 p.m. Thursday. NBC.
“Parks and Recreation”: 8:30 p.m. Thursday. NBC.

This Is Why People Who Scream First Are Entirely Pathetic

    by crow3711

If you get a first, try being original. Then, if it turns out you aren't first, you just have a clever second or third. Why do people obsess with first? It just leaves you feeling empty and stupid after, especially because no one gives a fuck that you're first. Say something hilarious with your first though...and people will respect you.

    by kaiser soze

but it sucks ass - it's a lame "Office in a new setting" ripoff that is terribly unfunny. I gave it a few eps but all the jokes fell flat. Plus, Amy Pohler is okay, but I never found her that good, even at SNL (except when she did Weekend Update). She's waaay better than Kristen Wiig, though.

He was brilliant on Arrested Development (still, in my mind, the best comedy series ever). I would pay money to see him actually do a magic show. Like, a real one. Hopefully he can be a somewhat regular on Parks. After all, he does have a bit of a connection with Amy.

    by mst3kpimp

the 1st couple seasons were ammusing but it has morphed into an exercise in formula. Just alot of lame edits and flashbacks. I guess it's the Family Guy syndrome. I can't believe it sweeps the awards every year. Seems like its a show for culturally retarded people to watch so they can think theyre hip talking about it around the water cooler the next day.

But it's still not as good as Community or 30 Rock. They really need to ditch the talking to cameras shtick. At least it's better than the office has been lately though, god that show has become too drab. (Spoiler warning) And Kathy Bates arriving is not going to help anything.

Everyone keeps saying what a disaster NBC is because of the late night thing, but lost is that their Thursday lineup is the best night of television comedy in years. From the moment Leslie started rapping Parents Just Don't Understand in the premiere, I could tell Parks and Rec had taken it to a new level.

Parks and Recreation had me by about the third episode of the second season. I mildly enjoyed it up until that point, but it has really hit is stride. Love the characters now. I think this season of The Office is much improved over last year, and I also enjoy The Office. Thursday nights on NBC are a blast.

Parks and Rec and Community are both stellar.

    by burgundy82

No debate necessary on which is better. Community is having one of the best first seasons I've ever seen (waaaaay better than the first 6 eps of U.S. Office or P&R, though still not quite at the inhuman out-of-the-gate brilliance of Arrested Development S1), and Parks and Rec has quickly become my favorite show of the night. Every week is better than the last, and anyone who's not onboard yet just never will be. It's OK though. I know people who still don't see the big fuss over AD, either. All you can do is feel sorry for them, and remind them that they'll always have Jay Leno.

I never miss the Thursday night line-up on NBC. Though P&R and Community both took a few episodes to get going, they are consistently funny week after week now. The Office, after stumbling a little last season (Michael Scott Paper Company) is back to being hilarious and 30 Rock is gold, or Goldcase, as the case may be. All 4 of these shows are better than anything on flippin' CBS. Yeah, I'm talking to you Charlie and the nerds!

    by annoyyou

The stupid useless "cinema verite" format of P&R makes it seem like an even worse The Office (which is pretty bad now itself) and I can't stand to watch more than a minute or so because the cast is so terrible. Community, however, is stellar, even with dumb stunt casting (Jack Black, Owen Wilson). The cast is superb; the writing is good, and very often brilliant. It's my favorite show and the only reason I still devote 30 minutes of my time to the cesspool that is NBC.
