Sam Raimi may not be doing SPIDER-MAN 4 next... but you know what that means...
Hey folks, Harry here in the aftermath of the SPIDER-MAN 4 neutron bomb that blew up today... trying to figure it all out. More and more the word I'm hearing is that the existing SPIDER-MAN property was being pulled in too many directions. Acting talent had their voice in this, there was of course Raimi and his peeps, then there was the studio, and Marvel. Plus there was this crazy sense of urgency to get this done to meet an impending date. To a large degree, that's what happened on SPIDER-MAN 3. Too many cooks adding too many ingredients - and the final product was edible, just not repeatedly or with praise. SO... it all exploded. Now what. Well, I'm not here to talk about Spidey. That's going to be a future discussion, after SONY interviews about a zillion would be inheritors to Raimi's throne. Then there will be a casting process after a lengthy script process - and in 3-4 years, if the Mayans didn't jinx us, we'll be talking about the eventual SPIDER-MAN film. More importantly, what is Raimi going to do next. Well, I chatted with someone that knows - and I feel confident in saying that the next film we'll see from Raimi is going to be WARCRAFT... which after AVATAR, the concept of world building that particular universe could be astonishing - especially in 3D - especially after what Cameron just unleashed upon the globe. World creating Science Fiction & Fantasy... done by visionary filmmakers ... well, it is a premium. We got THE HOBBIT coming, looks like an AVATAR 2... but the word I hear is that today - the phone lines were burning between a certain legendary locale and Raimi's folks about firing up the furnaces to forge the weapons of war. Some time in the next few months, I expect progress. I've heard that Robert Rodat (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, THE PATRIOT) has put together one helluva script. Personally, I was excited by Raimi doing WARCRAFT. I know he wanted to put out one last great SPIDER-MAN film, but I feel the powers at be - on all sides - just weren't adding up for that to happen. Now, let's see WARCRAFT move forward!!!

but how bout Evil Dead 4? I know he wants to work with Campbell again.
-
Wow...3-D is the future of cinema and its totally going to change the game...just like it did in the 50's,the first time. This 3-D hype is already old and played out...how about just making GOOD movies-3-D or not?
-
Can't wait see what he picks.
-
As far as making everything digital that is, Warcraft always felt like it should be as practical as possible to me. That Iron Age feel would just get lost with CG, hope Raimi doesn't camp it up is all.
-
With all this Spidey reboot nonsense. Now with that said Warcraft sounds like teh sickness if the script is badass............. Oh who am I kidding? I want another Spidey flick NOW!! :(
-
In very rare instances, like the James Bond series, where a character has been milked over literally 20 concurrent films, does a complete reboot make sense. Rebooting a franchise less than EIGHT FRIGGIN YEARS after the first film was a $400 million dollar success is just lazy, greey creative bankruptcy. It's the studio saying, "Hey, we don't have the time or energy to fix the problems of the last film with a smart continuation, so we're just gonna erase everything you've seen so far."
-
I hate you Sony, Marvel, and Columbia. You call Raimi up right now and just give the man what he wants. Now they're going to make the Spider-Man in 3D, with Zac Efron and Portia Doubleday as Peter and Mary Jane, and Shia Lebeouf as Harry Osbourne. You know it's coming, directed by Paul Anderson, not the good one from Punch Drunk Love, but the one that made those horrible Resident Evil Movies, but it's going to be in 3D and the villain will be Paste Pot Pete played by Marlon Wayans.
-
Let's see what Sam can do.... I'm sure Bruce Campbell will be in this.
-
The story line in Warcraft 2,3 and the follow ups (frozen throne) make for really cool storytelling. If they focus the story on Thrall and Arthus and ignore World of Warcraft, I don't think they can go wrong.
-
I can't see Raimi creating these huge epic films. He was great with "Drag Me to Hell" and that vibe woulda been great carried over to The Lizard. Ah well.
-
Jobacca beat me to it. Oh yea, and fuck Avatar too. 30 minutes into it, I coulnt wait for it to end. Cameron used to be a master at characterization, tension and pacing...what happened?
-
Screw Sony! I want Marvel\Disney to get their baby back! "I want my baby back, baby back, baby back..." I want the first non-cartoony, realistic CGI by Pixar! I want a 1960's period piece, true-to-the-source-material, Spider-man adaptation.</p> And whatever Raimi ultimately does...it won't be Evil Dead 4, the only thing his fans really want. Seriously, a WOW movie? That might as well be entirely 3-D CGI IMAX also.
-
Just get a new director!
-
Xena and Hercules?
-
I don't really know anything about it except people love it. Raimi will be awesome at whatever he chooses as long as it is not a Costner baseball movie.<p>BTW..can we stop all the 2012 Mayan calander bullshit? I can't wait for it to come cause it will either be over or we will all be dead and either way it will be better than listening to the same old tired UNFUNNY joke for the next 2 years. FUCK!
-
Honestly having the read let Neil direct the new spidey here- it made me sick to my gut... Why- well because he's so fresh to the scene I'd much rather see him make his own original stuff then whoe/sell out and make a homage to a source material package. It's like that cohens bro superman suggestion. Hellllooooooooooooo!!!!! they make cohen brother flicks. Original quirky and fresh and totally 100% them. Stay gold pony boy- thats what i want to say to Neil. When the geeks cry for him to helm somthing he can never really make his own. Let the man make his own mark on the cinematic stream. I hope he continues to make films with unknowns that try as hard as D9 did to be something original and different. Dont do it Neil. dont do it....... As for Evil Dead. what was I saying again????
-
who is incapable of producing anything but cheesy b-movies like Army of Darkness and the Spiderman films. <P> I didn't like the first 2 Spideys (won't watch 3) and can't stand the casting (Maguire, Franco, Dunst) script, or direction. <P> The only good thing about the films was my appearance in the ring, where I beat the tinkle out of Tobey's stunt double. <P> I am seriously happy about the reboot.
-
But I'm also not afraid to say that Raimi is overrated, because he is.
-
look at how much time he lost working on that- how much control he lost- only to have it taken away. Raimi makes 2 very good spidey flicks makes sony shitloads of money- hell they even use the spidey font style for the ps3's logo- they even demo the ps3's powers with a render of spider swinging through the apple and a real time render of doc oc, and what do they do to raimi aftera poor fan reaction- not fan only not box office- to spidey 3 and some bad fan reception to a vulture storyline- they shit can him!!!!! Yeah go work for the them neil... Fuck that- stay gold pony boy. stay gold. Keep telling us new yarns. I'm with you doin the analaze that fingers eyes fingers eye direction thing. Like the *cough* Coens- do your own thing and never bend over again for money or geeks and nostalgia freaks!
-
Yes. Unfortunately we do.<p><p>Here it comes, folks. Right on cue. A "darker, grittier, edgier retelling of the Spider-Man story"... BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!<p><p>Which, of course, plenty of idiots will mindlessly cheer for. The only way Hollywood ever "one-ups" a pre-rebooted franchise is going the "darker, grittier" route. It's the only idea left. Too bad it's not original.<p><p>Granted no information has even remotely been released yet, but I can all but promise it will be a ridiculous "Batman Begins" routine. AKA nothing but a cash grab by trying to make it a little more "dark" and "hardcore" for all the people complaining about Peter being such a baby. And you people wonder why they keep feeding you crap... it's because plenty of you out there keep begging for it.
-
and don't believe in the slightest it was purely down to 'studio interference' - look, in a job you make the best of it. Waah Raimi didn't want Venom. Fine. But looking what came of it, it looks like he didn't want to do the whole sodding film. <p> However I loved 2, liked 1 and enjoy most of Raimi's previous output. To reboot is to cop out - he and the existing crew should have been given a final chanceof glory, as it's much more interesting than just reaching for the reset button. Woohoo back to high school with a fresh faced 12 year old...
-
No, you are not alone. And I too am most pleased at getting another directors point of view on this series (although I hope they don't actually reboot but just continue on from where three leaves off).
-
These visual concepts that existed in the warcraft universe before Avatar might cause problems for the Warcraft movie creative team. 1) The Nagrand zone. This place has been in the game for 4 years or so. It has floating land masses with waterfalls pouring off. 2) Night Elf Hunters. Night elf hunters might as well be Na'vi. Shamanistic, Blue, use bows alot, 15 feet tall, and really in shape! 3) The neon lit world of Un Goro Crater. In all fairness this place is based on the land of the lost. Names and quest suggest this. These are my big 3 so far... now on top of that Rami and team are going to have even bigger issues not copying Pete and LoTRs.
-
...make their own damn Warcraft movie? They've got more money than the U.S. Treasury and have proven they are capable of producing high quality animation. Hell, if Blizzard were to produce a feature length Warcraft movie you could hear the nerd stampede from the moon.
-

Rami shouldn't have blown SM3 if he wanted to leave on a high no
by happybunni
Ultimately it all comes down to the Directory. Wah wah he didn't like Venom, but he didn't have to out of his way to make it a bad movie. The Venom story isn't all that difficult to make interesting, especially on film. The movie looks like Rami was throwing a tantrum by making the movie crappy because he didn't get his way.
-
Darker and grittier means nothing to me. Less Sam Raimi b-movie cheese, that means quite a lot. They could do happy PG Spidermans until the cows come home and it would not make one bit of difference to me. But Raimi had three tries, and no matter the box office (because as you say, the sheep will follow regardless) it's time for a different look at this property. Lets think of it as a Bond thing, rather than a BAD thing. Because I really hope they don't reboot. There is no need for that. Just some different cooks in the kitchen.
-
Photoreal and in 3-D of course! I mean, if they're gonna use Avatar tech, that's pretty much what it is!
-
Blizzard always had cutting edge cgi cinematic elements in there games.
-
Must be Switched Out. <P> It would have saved us from the Star Wars prequels, Indy IV, etc. But then no Rocky IV, so maybe it's a bad rule. <P> Back on topic, a computer game like Warcraft seems like a good fit for Raimi's skill set.
-
You know, 'cuz who cares about bad credit when the Mayans have jinxed us, right?
-
Dear RandySavage, Raimi doesn't hide what kind of director he is so thanks for stating the obvious. Sorry not all films can be like Breathless or Crash for ya. Film is camp. Film is monsters. Film is revolutionary. Film is uplifting. Film is politics. Film is storytelling.
-
Is what that should mean. Is that chick still underground? Can she get out? She's too cute to be burning in hell. And Mac is probably getting lonely, just standing at the platform, looking at that hole in the ground thinking "what the fuck just happened? What was that?"
-
this excites the hell out of me. i am a huge fan of both raimi and the warcraft franchise. and to be honest, i would rather see him do the warcraft movie than be forced to put on more trash like spidey 3. it is going to be damn interesting to see what he does. i know its a long shot, but i'd love to see him add bruce campbell as a hero in the warcraft world.
-
Raimi's best non-Evil Dead movie right there. I would like to see something more along those lines again before he sets out on the path to Warcraft.
-
I had read that one of Raimi's many, many disagreements with Sony over Spider-Man 4 was that they wanted it in 3-D and he was absolutely against it. It seems strange that he would suddenly be in favor of it for his next project.
-
Who will direct Toby and Kirsten now? I just read Malkovich is playing the Vulture. Part 4 might still be good since it will have the same cast.
-
I do trust Raimi with fantasy. I wonder why no one goes after other books instead of games. Dragonriders of Pern, Sword of Shannara, Thomas Covenant, hell even the Dragon Lance Chronicles! There's a wealth of material out there for a tapped out Hollywood!
-
gamers are ironic cynical assholes. There's no way this movie will be good. Remember DUNGEONS & DRAGONS?!?! So the people who'd actually see this crap fest wont want to anyway. This isn't like Twilight, where quality doesn't matter because R. PATS is in it. The fact that the movie exists will make WOW players NOT want to see it and then make internet comments about it on AICN. BUBBA HOTEP TWO: Revenge of Elvis
-
I am sick of reboots. The only reboot I want is Superman, and we're not getting it as of yet. Screw you, Sony! I already have my trilogy.

If yout hink Spider man 3 was edible you're fucking insane
by IndustryKiller!
Every time Devin Feraci talks about that film he sounds like an idiot dullard lunatic. Notice how he never defends it with clear examples. No one has EVER made an actual case for SPider Man 3 being anything more than unwatchable fucking garbage. It's a mess from beginning to end that PURPOSELY makes a mockery of the character or anything that makes Spider Man work. It's EVERY bit as bad as Superman 3 or 4.
-
And movies based on videogames tend to suck.
-
Sorry, but for medieval fun good luck topping Army of Darkness. What's he need with another mega-franchise anyway? Do a spooky Three Stooges with Ted as a squad of fake Shemps. Genius.
-
You could do it in a couple of weekends! Come oooooooon!
-
This is Rami's masterpiece right here. Sign me up!!!!
-
As much as any scifi/fantasy director expects aintitcool.com posters to leave their parent's basements and go see their movie.

An artist doesn´t need these tools. Only Dumb directors use it!

...ever!

Like printing cash...
-
Are you referring to the number of people that buy the "Amazing Spider-man" comic book on a monthly basis? It's more like 70,000.
-
Nerds posting about "really good story" in Warcraft. I guess Harry Potter is "really good writing" and Seth Rogan is "really good comedy." What else? Jack Black is "really good rock and roll"? Let's go ahead and hit all the lowest common denominators for 14 year old nerds. This is why the rest of the world hates us. Avatar is evidently plagiarism of epic proportions yet noobs rave how awesome Warcraft story is. Never mind that it's hackjob of 40 years of fantasy fiction starting with Moorcock, ending with Warhammer and encompassing everything in between.
-
...nevermind. :)

organicstudios... wow that was a pretty broad statement.
by NomoredirtyjokespleaseweareYanks
You do realise that Scorcese, DePalma( might be hit and miss but the man IS an auteur), Spielberg, Kubrick, Paul Magnolia Anderson, The Coen Brothers and many more intelligent and profound filmmakers all utilise CG. Also, as long as people follow Cameron's example with 3D and make it integral to the experience, it will not be a gimmick but another tool of immersion.

I sense a nerd civil war brewing!!!

How can you cheese up Warcraft anymore than Blizard has?
by PurityOfEssence
Cheese is built into the title, maybe not as much with the first three (just derivative), but the World of Warcraft is just a appropriation of various fantasy works and motifs, with a healthy dose of pop-culture references. I played World of Warcraft for a short while (casually). If the movie is something like the game then they will pause at some point to pick up magic shit from dead bodies and maybe throw in a Chuck Norris joke, or whatever the latest internet joke is.
-
And it isn't Warcrap.
-
Imo the difference is, most videgame moves are based on a game about a guy going around shooting stuff. Warcraft actually has a pretty carefully constructed lore and epic scale storyline, so if they do it right it could make for a good movie. I don't think Raimi really has it in him to make it anything but campy though.
-

lol Harry was the only one that LOOOVED!! Spiderman 3
by Windowlicker74
But not anymore i guess.. and why does he have not bring in the fucking Mayans with everything that's gonna happen after 2012?? it was just a fucking movie...!
-
Individual movies might be good, but the films as a series have sucked, especially if you're a Spider-Man fan. A first movie that flies through high school, a Flash Thompson who is almost non-existent in the series, a Peter who has only had one gf - Mary Jane - his entire life, and a butchering of the Death of the Green Goblin/Gwen Stacy storyline. <p> Spider-Man 3 didn't kill the series, it just revealed the faulty construction work that was done when they built the series foundation. We could all see this thing was going to fall apart, but a lot of us choice to ignore the warning signs because the damn thing looked so pretty.
-
An anti-reboot revolution is afoot! http://i47.tinypic.com/28hfqiu.jpg
-
First I salute you for even considering going back for Spidey 4 when clearly you were fucked over on 3. It was cool that you wanted to do a GOOD Spidey movie again. (And Spidey 2 is very, very, very good.) But I salute you even more for leaving this project rather than do another not so great one. Sends the right message. And, incidentally, I salute Sony for not trying to push forward (though maybe they would have if they could have.) Another X3 is the last thing we need!
-
make it so!
-
Would rather see the Warhammer movie get made. Or better yet, Warhammer 40,000. There's like 10 movies worth of story in that franchise.
-
I haven't liked a Raimi film since. I hated Spider-Man, Drag Me To Hell, The Gift, the Kevin Costner romance, it's all been big budget, stupid Hollywood crap. Oh and CGI will forever suck.
-
Sam wouldn't be where he is without the Evil Dead fans sticking by him despite many below-par movies (need I name them?). Give the fans what they REALLY want. If Warcraft is a flop a la Dungeons and Dragons he might never get to make another big-budget movie and then the big-budget ED4 (we've been waiting nearly two decades for)would be truly fucked. Forever.
-
we need space marines/imperial guard versus tyranids
-
warhammer*
-
3d in the 1950's is way fucking different than 3D today, in case you didn't realize. You probably think 3D still requires red and blue colored glasses. Wrong!
-
"Mungo make reboot in Franchise 'A', reboot work, so Mungo make reboot in ALL franchises. Mungo a genius!".
-
Not only Spidey but the whole geek movie genre as it seems. A 3D movie of a video game without a plot? It will inevitably suck. And 3D? It's a gimmick. Avatar looked nice, I have to admit it, but it was a bland family friendly movie without balls. And we'll get much more of the same over the years to come. Avatar fucked eyeballs as much as it fucked up the genre and Jimmy Cameron is the new George Lucas.
-
...THE DEAD.
-
No. Bad Harry.
-
I really couldn't give a shit about a Warcraft film, I hate MMOs so a film about them isn't going to get me into the cinema, even if it is Raimi.
-
...that doesn't change often enough to not damage your screen.
-
Now that they smell the cash they will try to do what they "think" the audience wants. "the audience wants depp as riddler." And so it shall suck.
-
Day of the Dragon would be a good place to start and you could follow that up with the War of the Ancients trilogy since it deals with some of the same characters.<p>Alternatively it may be interesting to see Arthas' story told on the big screen.
-
Realize this and you'll sleep better at night.
-
But after "period" king kong, a studio especally sony wouldnt dare do it. i would LOVE to see a fantastic four period movie but superhero period movies are never gonna happen, they could be great but the average pleb (ie the people, studios ultimately make money from)wont know what the fucks happening. I mean Wolverine made money and that was supossed to be set in the 70's and it looked like it was set in 2009 so why bother? its sucks but the fact is that joe Q MTV ,american idol, generation are undemanding morons that will pay to see shit over and over again.
-
every one that works for this site and who read it regulary agree that wolvie was terrable movie. but whats the bets that harry, quint and the rest of them own wolvie on DVD (sorry BLU-RAY!sorry, sorry , dvd is dead i forgot) cos they are sad completist collector nerds!
-
...and I guess I'll catch hell for this...I didn't like Drag me to Hell very much. It wasn't so much a horror movie as geek show, and it was a geek show made for a mainstream audience so it was also, you know, kind of weak sauce. Throw in no real characters or plot to hold your interest and I'm not really sure why people liked it. Not worth hating but real, real slight. <p> As for WoW I'm not overly excited about Raimi doing it because, well first of all its derivative, work for hire fantasy, made with the specific intention of miming other, previous works to such a degree as to pull in folks who are just looking for another serving of an original dish they liked once. It makes an easy target for a movie because it's generic, like D&D was generic fantasy, like Resident Evil was generic zombie horror, so you have a shot at the McDonald's movie crowd and I guess that could work out financially. But it also doesn't seem a very good match for Raimi's skill set as a director. <p> Don't know, this all seems like anti-cool news to me.
-
...at this point would be another huge budget/aspiring franchise/bet-the-farm/tentpole type thing...
-
Not a game name (that I know of), but fuck ... WARCRAFT??
-
Bruce Campbell ain't going to keep those devilishly hadsome good looks forever. <p> Make the fucking movie Sam. <p> Now! <p> Why are you still sitting there? I said NOW!
-
get Mr T and Shatner involved, and I'm there.
-
Jan. 12, 2010, 8:16 a.m. CST
actually warcraft movie would be perfect with avatar tech
by tradeskilz
Live action wont happen, neither will in-house developed CGI so WETA doing it with Avatar tech is the way to go under the supervision of Blizzard art directors.
-
You're on a geek/nerd website ripping geek/nerds? Isn't that like virtual cannibalism? With that said, I don't entirely disagree with your point....
-
Leave Warcraft to someone else! Sam said after SpiderMan 4 he would make 1 more evil dead! Bruce wont work with anyone else...fuck...........
-
Sony needs to get that puppy out of development hell so they can get it ready to compete with the Warcraft movie in the time-honored tradition of Dante's Peak vs Volcano!! Get moving!
-
Obviously
-
You gave us a great trilogy of Spidey films (and, yes, that includes the wonderful, though flawed, SM3. Here's looking forward to whatever it is you come up with next!!
-
As long as the learned a lesson from Spider-man 3. And use the good parts, more singing and dancing. You know anything that makes you cringe. My first thought after the last movie was, get Raimi away from this. He blew his load on the 1st two. So this could be positive, it has nowhere to go but up. I just wish it wasn't a reboot. But I'm hopeful.
-
Jan. 12, 2010, 9:20 a.m. CST
Spidey reboot already has a script. Sony had planed on backstabb
by EvilDeadDave
Actualy it wont be 4-5 years till the re-boot happens. apparently sony hired vanderbilt to write the reboot last year as a back up plan incase they couldn't make Sam agree to ridiculouly lousy scipt, so they alreadly have the script ready to go and jsut need to start casting and hire a director. Very lame and sneaky on Sonys part.
-
...and 14 year old "trenchcoat mafia" wanna be's. Why would anyone want a movie about it?
-
I remember reading a long while back that Raimi was connected with a live-action version of the book. I would love to see the Nac Mac Feegle on the big screen.
-
these sword and sorcery movies are pretty bad<br> Lotr depicted very little magic usage, and it was usually pretty subtle<p> WoW has almost continuous magic usage<br> I think it'll come across badly
-
That's made for Raimi
-
and be absolute shit. Fantasy flicks just don't try hard enough to get away from the LOTR motifs so until they do I don't give 2 shits about it.
-
lol. <p> you must be under 18 if you think avatar is an original idea. its a verbatim theft of a movie called "dances with wolves." and dances with wolves wasn't exactly its own source material, pocahontas provided most of the material in dances. <p> so here you are claiming warcaft by raimi will steal from cameron's avatar. which is funny, because the only thing cameron created in avatar is the visuals. not like those haven't been influenced either. <p> lol.
-
I mean come on they even lived in a huge ass tree like the Night Elves. They might as well make it look like Avatar. I support the move by the studio to just move on, I think it's for the best. I would hate to see Spidey go the way of the Christopher Reeves Superman movies.
-
Fuck 3D.
-
*shrug* sony's got a new shit sandwich script of spider-man, couldn't care about the reboot. won't care to see it and hope sony does all the stupid storylines of spider-man from the past 40 years. clones, venom, gwen's dead/alive/dead/got kids with osborn/dead/alive, spider-man has 6 arms, fighting aliens again, making a deal with the devil, etc. <P> this franchise is dead to me at the moment. and if sony produces another turd like spider-man 3, i won't even watch it for free on satellite.
-
Let him direct World War Z. Havn't heard much about it lately and I'm dying for it.
-
Warcraft has an amazing storyline with great characters. I don't think Raimi is the right person for the job, but hopefully he suprises me. As much as I love Army of Darkness I don't want to see a higher budget version, something tells me he will take this dead serious as to show what he would've done with the Hobbit though.
-
I want to see a live-action WOW movie starring GWAR in huge shoulder pads and monster masks. <br> <br> At least that is the sort of gravity I expect from a WOW film with ARMY OF DARKNESS Raimi at the helm.
-
I think Im the only one thats excited for this reboot news. I didnt bother seeing Spidey 3 but dont care to. The first two were overhyped. I am glad they are doing a reboot. Fresh blood. I just hope its not the same shit. Change it up. And get us a cooler Parker and a hotter Mary Jane. I think the Spiderman films actually made me think Kristn Dunst was in the words of AICN, a snaggly tooth bitch.
-
See 3D so the whole thing is lost on me, so when a movie is ONLY in 3D it Really takes me out of the movie, i wasn't blown away by Avatar at all i'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
-
they've been replaced with a race of Fake Shemp's
-
this will obviously be a LOTR clone rather than an Avatar one. Either way I'm game for it. Can't have enough epic fantasy projects. And I'm glad they're ditching the "WOW" title and instead focusing on the universe that made the last 3 games great before the MMO.
-
Fuck that retarded World of Warcraft bullshit. Do something we'd all enjoy. Raimi doing a WOW film is almost as bad as David Fincher doing a Facebook film. What's next, Jim Cameron doing a film about the creators of American fucking Idol!?!? Please Raimi, do Evil Dead 4 instead!
-
So, I'm all for DM2H: Drag Me Out of Hell... Has that been discussed already? Can we start an online petition of some sort?

It could have been great if the studio had the balls to keep all the Sean Bean nonsense out of it. It could have succeeded as an intelligent investigation of psycho-sexual feminine horror (every character in the film is a woman, except the monsters - Pyramid Head can be read as the penis). But know, audiences are stupid and need male characters so they can empathize, because the female is alien and scary.<p>I think Sam will do okay with Warcraft. Warcraft is pretty campy to begin with.
-
honestly. They have so much experience with this stuff now. And I bet you they have a few pieces of armor lying around here and there.

I appreciate that it wasn't a complete mockery of what made the series great. But they sadly retained one thing from the series, the bad voice acting. Honestly the acting in this film was horrible.
-
He made a bad horror movie. Then he made two self-consciously bad horror movies. Then he made three high budgeted, but finally simpistic and self-indulgent superhero movies. Then he made a bad, racist horror movie. When did the world decide he was any good at filmmaking?
-
Well done Sam. It's always a good idea to have a few projects on the run.
-
the rest of the films he made were just absolute shit. And I'd be pissed if he cast Bruce Campbell in this. The man is a horrible actor, and this self-parody shit isn't funny either. I hope he changes up his style for this film. Just try and tackle something more epic and less goofy please.
-
please, shut up
-
hollywood, pick any multi-part novels by these guys and you're in the body. hell, pick Foster's Pip/Flinx universe or Niven's Ringworld universe and stop reharshing the same tired shit. Man, i wish i was an executive.

is what i meant. freudian slip
-
All underrated films that, to me, show Raimi as a pretty great director with a strong sense of authorship.<p>And Waqman you are wrong about Silent Hill but that's okay because I don't care.
-
Another computer/video game movie. That should be g..... No, I can't even pretend that it won't suck.

Warcraft? The video game? As a movie? That's lame.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer

You got what you wanted. Now go try to ruin another movie or two.
-
WTF. Never mind then. 2 more films of his that I liked. But I still hate the shitty Evil Dead series. Anyways this guy has fantasy experience with his TV shows. But he's gonna need to definitely cut down on the cheese and get a bigger budget. And hire WETA. Go to New Zealand. Damn the haters.
-
with their constant cries for War Machine. Chances are 50/50 that throwing him in ruins the film.
-
Make a Warhammer movie...... When Bliz couldn't get the license they went ahead and cloned it. And Warcraft is cheese, just look at the art style.
-
I guess after the bad taste that spiderman 3 left in ppl's minds, the franchise hit the fucking wall. Raimi was doing great until the embarassing third chapter and now he wanted to include some lame ass villian? give me a fucking break. sorry to see him leave but hopefully the next director in line, will share some of his vision while filling his shoes.<p>And for the record, Spidey 2 was the best of all three.
-
Nuff said.
-
he was clearly just grasping for straws here. He just didn't care about the series anymore after the third film. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was Raimi that quit the film, not the studio.
-
I think any geek worth his salt would have automatically guessed EVIL DEAD 4, not WARCRAFT. Harry for the FAIL.
-
He's got his own style, and some people have borrowed/stole his techniques (even the mighty Peter Jackson)
-
Nothing more. I'll say it every time that 3D does almost NOTHING to add to the film-going experience. It is LESS immersive, and does not help the storytelling at all. You're constantly reminded, by those fucking GLASSES, and gimmick moves, that you are watching a movie. Even with Avatar, I would have been just as happy watching on a regular IMAX screen without the 3D. I actually think Coraline did a better job with the 3D overall.<p>To all filmmakers: PLEASE stop relying on technology to make films . . . just make something worth watching and PEOPLE WILL WATCH IT!!
-
havent paid attention to raimi and his style. he loves motion and camera's in motion. not shakey camera motion, but speed bullet zooms into a moving focal point. which means moving battles between spider-man and an air-borne enemy are exactly what raimi does best.
-
<p>...cooking the books?</p> <p>Seriously, is this what Hollywood is doing?</p> <p>Some sort of elaborate money laundry?</p> <p>Must investigate further.</p> <p>Really, who WANTS a WORLDCRAFT movie? People who are too lazy/above/old/cheap to play the game?</p> <p>That's me. And im not itching for one.</p> <p>Either forget this noise Raimi!</p> <p>Or do the best job you can, you know, for the money!</p> <p>Then do your lifes-work, your Magnum Opus.</p> <p>THE SHADOW</p> <p>Then again, who's itching for a shadow movie?</p> <p>ME!</p> <p>And...Raimi.</p> <p>Eh. And a bunch of guys on the INTERNET...</p> <p>That's who!</p> <p>Once again:</p> <p>ADRIAN BRODY as Lamont Cranston/The Shadow</p>

No really, but a guy can dream.

<p>Should stop watching Youtube and Redtube and posting on Imdb and Aicn.</p> <p>Then March down to USC and go back to film school and learn to direct ACTION movies. It worked for JOE JOHNSTON.</p> <p>Then he should direct that fucking superman movie he's been yapping about. Bald Nic Cage as Lex Luthor/Brainiac.</p> <p>His Smodcasts are hilarious though.</p>
-
Chaos Beastmen! Nurgle!
-
I hadn't thought of him as Lamont Cranston. I think it's an interesting idea, but to me, he doesn't look menacing or stern enough. But maybe he could be plenty menacing if he needed to be. I wonder how Jeremy Brett would have been if he weren't deceased. Maybe he would've reminded audiences too much of Sherlock Holmes. <p> I really like the art style of Gary Gianni in his Shadow comics.
-
Seriously, we have Hobbit stuff coming. Give us EVIL DEAD, only so many orcs and wizards and elves man.
-
Had not seen his work. Cool. Thanks for the tip man.
-
sigh...they must view the real world in 2D. Simpletons. It's the logical next step...just because shit movies like Final Destination 3D and My Bloody Valentine don't know how to utilise it doesn't mean it isn't valid. Cameron put 3D to great use and its in its infancy. It's like sound back when it was invented for films...sounded like absolute shit. Today? Gorgeous uncompressed studio masters on Blu-Ray. Wake the fuck up.
-
I just want to echo a few posts I've seen already in saying that you need to stop this "Mayan calendar" shit. It's not funny.
-
Yeah! Those pesky cameras, lights and microphones just get in the way.

And yes...somewhere two fat kids are chestbumping.

"World-building"? WOW? In an ARTISTIC sense? Are you retarded?
by manifestchaos
Seriously, are you retarded? There is no potential for creativity or ingenuity here, just another awful video game adaptation. Fuck it.
-
OK, first...movies based on video games ALWAYS SUCK. ALWAYS. There are no exceptions to this rule. <P> Second, all of you who keep saying that Warcraft has a great storyline or whatever...you need to understand that normal people translate that to, "I am trying to justify my sad obsessions and virginity." <P> Third, those of you bitching that Warcraft ripped off Warhammer...even the sad, obsessed Warcraft people are laughing at you.
-
I haven't read the TB yet, only the article, so i'm sure i'm treading over ground that dozens of you already covered. but to me, this sucks. all 3 of the films are flawed, the last one especially so, but I think they were all a lot, LOT better than what could have been. I just hate the idea of starting the cycle over... you want a new director? that kind of sucks, but fine. new cast? sure. but why start all the way back at the beginning? even though Spider-man 1 is already aging poorly and is cheesy out its ears, it really did nail the tone of those early golden age Peter Parker stories. there's nothing more to tell from his high school years. if you're gonna blow this up, you can still just (loosely) continue from the previous trilogy with a slightly older, more distinguished cast and a new tonal direction. even as a big fan of spidey, I don't feel like sitting through 2 or 3 more movies of him in high school.
-
I should probably mention Michael Kaluta, too: http://www.kaluta.com/pages/shadow/index.php3 No problem, Bixby!

by dirtyfrank
Every Spider-man movie had problems and the 3rd one was unwatchable.
-
As a sad fan girl ,who loved and cherished all things Spider-Man as a kid growing up, I'm glad. I don't really rate Rami as a director (apart from the Evil Dead films) and the Spider-Man film's where shit, for a million and one reasons. (Well I liked the last five minuets of the first one), and I also HATE the idea of a rehash.... TBH I'm bored shitless with Peter Parker , (especially with his mask falling off every five seconds to reveal what Hollywood Twat is playing him).... Isn't it time Marvel gave Spider Woman a fair shot on the big screen? A James Cameron Spider Woman film could be amazing , especially if it was more adult in it's tone , an origin film along the lines of what the Launa Brothers did with their lush comic a few years back.... You know the reboot will be shit,(Directed by McG, with Zack Efron in the lead, and Katie Perry as M.J),What a load of bollocks.
-
Sylvester Stallone as Thrall, Chuck Norris as the headless horseman, Bruce Campbell as every bartender in Azeroth.
-
If you didn't like Spiderman 2, your not gonna be happy with any superhero movie.
-
That's like saying "cheese up" Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Warcraft has always been every generic fantasy/tolkien worship universe. The storylines and dialog are so contrived at times it's laughable. This has not been a problem because up until now it's been a video game. <BR><BR> Let it be. I've played Warcraft since "Orcs and Humans", and I never ever want to see a movie of it.
-
but if its Raimi directing I'll see it.
-
. . . love interest AND main villian and still nothing at AICN?
-
I can see it now, and Epic duel between a Undead Lock and a Human Mage in the halls of the Icecrown Citadel. This movie is going to rape.
-
I was expecting to see Evil Dead 4 news. Fuck you.
-
Otherwise I have very little interest. Wasn't Raimi circlin The Hobbit movie for a while? Think this is his consolation prize
-
It is not the popular MMORPG. Warcraft is the series of strategy war games that came before WoW. Warcraft 2 and 3 (and Frozen Throne) actually had very tight, interesting stories.
-
They weren't planning on starting Warcraft until 2012 or so, right? That's easily enough time to polish off ED4. Also, skycrapper, I hope you're not serious. Contemporary, the last major elves that lived in trees were the wood elves of Kelethin of the WoW competitor, and originator of the modern MMO, EverQuest. Regardless, tree villages have been around in cinema since the Ewoks of Jedi. Avatar may not be original, but claiming it's a rip-off of WoW just makes you look like a WoWtard. *insert obligatory Evil Dead 4 request again here*
-
I've always been a fan of good character development, but let's face it: we read comics so we can dream of kicking the goo out of people. I don't want to see Spider-Man re-re-reimagined yet again; I want to see him in a GROUP flick where he and several others join to kick the goo out of something really monstrous. Having Dr. Doom spearhead it and get the goo kicked out of HIM in the end would plus. No more origins, no more hand-holding, no more teens. I WANNA SEE MARVEL FIGHT CLUB!!! NOW WITH 44% MORE KICKED @SS!!! C'mon, you know I'm right.
