Two FAST AND THE FURIOUS Movies In The Works??

Published at:  Jan 11, 2010 10:57:34 AM CST

Merrick here...

Over the weekend, Vin Diesel updated his very cool Facebook page (HERE) with an infobit about the next FAST AND THE FURIOUS film - rather the next FATF films (?)

Vin wrote:

If 2009's 'Fast and Furious' was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3.

I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before... it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to.

I'm pretty sure this is the first indication we've had that more than one sequel is currently being mulled.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I have a blast with the FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise and I don't have any problem taking a look at more films in the series.

A while back, Diesel indicated that at least one new Riddick movie was in development - although later posts suggested two Riddicks may actually be in the pipeline (HERE). Vin can be a little Coy when dropping hints, so it's difficult to be sure about two Riddicks -vs- one, but he later posted that location scouting was underway for a new Riddick project - so we know something's in the wind...

Back when the last movie came out, a genius level TB'er came up with this as the title of part 5. Grandmaster Fast could be villain... hero... or both! Same for the "Furious 5".

I'll try and get more scoops about it later, but for now know that i am working on it

    by spud mcspud

The dumbass in me who rilly rilly wants to own a badass Murcielago or a Koenigsegsegssgeggeggeeeggssgesgesgswhateverthefuck really digs these movies - they're the movie equiavalent of a cheeseburger that ends up being the best cheeseburger you ever tasted. Nothing in comparison to a decent steak, but sometimes, all you want is a fucking great cheeseburger.

Now RIDDICK... I still contend that CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK is massively under-rated and an interesting failure on the level of DUNE. I fucking LOVE the movie, always watch it to the end when I catch it on TV, and really don't get the level of hate - yes, the names of the races and planets are shit - Necromongers? Crematoria? Is that all you got, Twohy? Don't go down as the next Goyer: COME BACK STRONG! - but it's a complete universe, with some awesome production design and some interesting D&D-style backstory mythology that really works for me. I'd love to see the Lord Marshal vs Feyd Rautha - there's a geek-pleaser of a fight I'd LOVE to see! But seriously, RIDDICK needs to come back more than an F&F sequel, though seriously - BRING THEM ALL ON!!

And while we're making with the Vin love - do the xXx threequel, Vin! Show that fat, short, angry fuck Cube how it's done one more time!

Yeah, I got the man-hots for Vin Diesel. He's the fucking MAN!

Though probably not to this franchise. Poor guy's been acting nonstop since he was ten, but then after he does Tokyo Drift, he completely vanishes for four years.
Now all of the sudden, he's got that crazy angel movie coming out on the same day his other movie starts off Sundance. Okay, so Legion probably won't do anything for him, but at least he has Get Low (with Robert Duvall and Bill Murray).

Only not love of cars or women, it's about the love between the two leads Vin Diesel and Paul Walker's characters like jaysin pointed out. If Brokeback Mountain was a quirky romcom, Fast and the Furious is LOTR/Star Wars, double meaning title too.

I get that many talkbackers don't like these films

    by maniaq

it's not like anyone is going to pretend they're Dances with fucking Wolves...
but you obviously DON'T GET something that a lot of other people do - and I think maybe that is ultimately what drives you nuts? Like the guy who asked (seriously, apparently) who watches these films and the response came back that actually a fuckload of people do...
    just not YOU
again, I'm not going to try to argue we're talking about anything but popcorn here but these films tap into a very real love that people have for the automobile - and ever since the first Model-T rolled off the assembly line, the world has been obsessed by the things - they're killing the planet ffs!
go back and look at films like the Smokey/Bandit or Cannonball flicks, both Deathrace versions, the Dukes of Hazzard, even films like Bullit that are pretty much just loved because of the car chase -
these are not deep philosophical treatises on the plight of modern man
they're not character driven explorations of the human condition
people didn't put ridiculous red LED strips into the grill on their rides that weren't even Trans-Ams most of the time because of David Hasselhoff's unique acting talents and on-screen gravitas
if you really don't get WHY people actually ENJOY these films then you need to educate yourself - but if you actually do understand but consider yourself SUPERIOR to the rest of us because these films are so beneath you, and yet you are moved enough to feel the need to post a comment on a talkback about a subject you don't even care about...
well you're either 8 years old (more likely) and one day you'll grow up and leave these childish things behind OR you got some serious issues and this is not the right forum for you to deal with your shit

Every year or so knots berry farm has a scion nights event for toyota scion owners. by spud mcspud

Everyone has something that rattles their chain. I personally love everything Vin Diesel does - they're all good Saturday night flicks, go great with pizza and a beer or six (excepting BOILER ROOM, and uner-appreciated little gem of a movie), and that's that. Pure popcorn entertainment.

    But...

I DO see why people get very passionate about their favourite chosen franchises. Get me started on how shit a writer Russell T Davies has been for the rebooted DOCTOR WHO the past five years, and I'll have a Talkback Meltdown. The best thing is to let the blowhards have their rant, and throw in your two bits worth. People going nuts over their point of view is kinda what the AICN Talkbacks were invented for, y'know....

That's the point. The films make money, so they get big budget sequels. Thereby perpetuating the studios complete lack of original thought. Some of us understand why they keep making them, really. It doesn't mean we have to be happy about it, or what the damn things.

somebody mentioned a previous talkback where people were making up funny names (longstanding tradition here) for F&F movies and I really have no problem with harmless fun like that
just don't try to get all high and mighty toward the rest of us schmucks who actually have no problem enjoying a couple hours with a film that is unashamedly just about the car(s) - and has no pretensions about being anything more than that...

These movies are fucking puke. They're made for drooling knuckleheads. These movies should come with a forced sterilization.

Jett posts "and the fact that ties vin's and paul's F&F to Tokyo drift is really a franchise pleaser" ... lol dude wtf?? The last one had Han and TD had Vin; both for a combined 5 minutes (maybe). That's not a "tie-in". That's "continuity". Seeing how the last one ended on a timeline about 1 year before the 2nd one with Walker & NO Vin, in order for your "tie-in" comment to have an iota of credibility is if the next one is Vin with NO Walker.
