More Hints Emerge Regarding The Final Season Of LOST!!

Published at:  Jan 12, 2010 12:17:30 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Boone Carlyle will appear in “Lost’s” Feb. 2 sixth-season premiere and likely other episodes spread throughout the series’ final season, Ian Somerhalder told a Saturday roundtable of reporters covering The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.”

Somerhalder shot his part in the season premiere back in September.

"I'm going back to do other episodes, I think, spread out throughout the season," Somerhalter said. "The season opener for that show, I was so blown away and so impressed and so thankful that I was even a part of that, because it's big. The script weighed about four pounds. You sit there and you go, 'Wow, this is an episode of television.'"

Showrunner Carlton Cuse tweeted Dec. 9 (roughly one month ago) that he and partner Damon Lindelof were “now” co-writing episode 6.11. By my rough calculations, this means the series now has fewer than a half-dozen episodes left to shoot.

Somerhalder’s character, Boone, was killed by a fall near the end of “Lost’s” first season. It’s understood that many characters killed during “Lost’s” first five seasons will have substantial roles to play in the series’ final 18 hours. “Heroes” star Greg Grunberg, who played the doomed pilot of Oceanic flight 815, said recently that he’ll be back for season six.

Find SciFi Wire’s report on the session here.

The photo above comes from “FiveManJob,” who wrote AICN on Jan. 7:

my wife and I just returned from Hawaii and, while hiking in the Manoa rainforest we ate at the restaurant (the scene with Miles and the body in the kitchen last season was his kitchen as well as parts of the Orchid Station set) where some of the LOST sets are constructed - the owner was an awesome guy and when we noticed the polar bear cages outside he said they had been put back up 2 weeks ago and the cast was coming back to shoot this Thursday

Apparently Sawyer returns to the other island to visit the bear cages at some point coming up

Hope that helps!

    Greatest Television Series Ever

    by packofredapples

My other favorite: The Sopranos, had a TON of really weak episodes and no true "storyline" to follow through to the end. LOST really is like one GIANT movie. It has some of the greatest characters ever (Locke, Ben Linus) as well as some of the greatest cliffhangers ("We Have to Go Back")

I really propose that anyone and everyone who hasnt caught up with this show to do so immediately. It DOES NOT disappoint.

    Greatest? Maybe not.

    by v'shael

I'll admit the show has become must-see genre tv that somehow found mainstream audiences too. But, for me, the show began to lose me at the end of season 2, start of season 3. I gave up watching the show until just before the Season 5 premiere, when I was convinced by people still watching it, that I should catch up.

Even back-to-back viewing (which is the best way to watch a show like this) I thought Season 3 was mostly very weak, and Season 4 marked the begining of the huge upswing.

I think that in the future, people will look back on Lost the way we look back on tv defining shows like The Prisoner, The Fugitive, M.A.S.H. etc...

Lost is number one for me

    by miyamoto_musashi

No doubt about that, my favourite show of all time. X-Files in second (though I like to forget about the last couple of seasons).
Whilst The Wire and Sopranos is probably the best produced tv and make my all time top 10, both never generated the level of excitement and anticipation that Lost has. I would say that from an entertainment perspective, not since before seeing Star Wars Episode 1 have I been so excited about seeing any piece of entertainenmt (tv or movie - though Dark Knight would be number 2 in the last decade). I hope of course that Lost's final season doesn't disappoint like the prequels and I am pretty confident that it won't.
For me Lost is the TV equivalant of Star Wars.
A few shows have tried to capture the audience like Lost and so far all have failed. Had high hopes for Fringe and whilst I enjoy it, its not there, its far from there.
3 weeks to go, bring it on!!!

If the pilot is going to be shooting more shit, I'm guessing that's a big drop that we are going to see a plane land at LAX. I think the Losties stuck in '77 are going to land at LAX and be the only ones on the plane who realize it, and have to do some parallel universe shit to make everything "right", whatever that may be.

Anyone who is disappointed by the ending of BSG must not have noticed the strong religious themes all through the series. The fleet (and the Cylons) were broken down to the point of having nothing... then a miraculous resolution saves them all. Why is that offensive as a strorytelling technique?

What the hell am I going to watch once this is over? At least when BSG drew to a close, I thought 'Well, I still have LOST'. Once this is gone, that's it for me. Nothing else COMES CLOSE to the mythology and intrigue of this show. If ABC have got any brains, they'll force the writers into a room at gunpoint and get them to make something new because no other television writers come close to them in terms of quality.

This season follows two alternate storylines

    by trazadone

In one version Juliet successfully detonates the bomb, the plane never crashes, and we learn what happens to the characters after the plane lands in its intended destination. In the other version Juliet is not able to detonate the bomb and we follow the characters on the island. This is why all the “dead” characters are able to return – because the plane never crashed in version 1, none of them died to begin with.

possibility that those "touched" by Jacob will retain some kind of knowledge that the alternate timeline is "wrong." So a lot like Bishop, from the 90's X-Men AoA saga, they will be on a mission to set things right...We may also see flavors of The Dark Tower: The Wastelands, where dead characters just inherently know there is something wrong and they shouldn't be alive. For those looking for something new to watch: check out The Wire finally! Completely different show but the writing is the best there ever was on TV.

    by david19

I sure wish theyd get the Lost writers on the next Star Trek movie. Im not sure what the Orci/Kurtzman relationship is to the Abrams crew, but Id much prefer Lindelof/Cuse on board as writers or coming up with the story. I know they were part of the production on part one, but storytellers like that need to be at the helm, not backing up Orci/Kurtzman who are very iffy writers.

I mean seriously... after lost... what is there?

    by turketron_2

The Wire, The Shield, and BSG are all recently ended. I never got into The Sopranos, Deadwood, Oz, or Carnivale, or Veronica Mars, so I guess i could dig up some of those dead shows to watch. Supernatural has been kicking ass for years now, but that may end after this year unless they go forward with the plan to give it more seasons (I have no problem with that, long as they are good but the original plan was for that show to end after 5 seasons).
What else is left as far as ongoing genre shows? Love Dexter, so I'll continue to watch that. Love 24, but that's a totally different type of show. Fringe is good but I want more mythology and less monster of the week. Flash Forward has potential, but for most of the episodes shown so far it has squandered that. I enjoy True Blood as well, but like 24 I enjoy it on another level than Lost. I almost want to say that there's not another show that can come along that I'll enjoy as much as Lost, but I felt that way when Angel the Series ended as well. Lets hope for the best, or at least for Flash Forward and Fringe to step it the fuck up!

"Like, a third of the way in to the season, I would guess we are going to settle into one time frame, and it will be very linear-no more flashbacks, nothing. It will be on the Island and sort of a final conflict to the end," said [Matthew] Fox. He assured fans that all the crazy storylines introduced in earlier seasons will be resolved and that the conflict between Jack and Locke "will come head to head" this season, but he wouldn't divulge more than that.

    jay2517, re: Eko

    by billboefett

Nice way to mangle the facts a bit. His parents died, and he was already sick of hawaii and wasn't the easiest to get along with. His original deal with LOST was a single-year arc with the possibility of more, but he wanted out. His parents death was the straw that broke the camel's back so they let him go. Whether or not he directed a movie after all that is beside the point. Eko was going to be in Locke's place and possibly taken over by MIB, but they had to use Locke instead for the faith in the island storyline once Eko was gone. Interestingly enough, the actor has expressed interest in possibly returning (because I think he regrets his decision especially after he saw what the show became), but as of yet, nothing has been filmed yet.

A friend who likes FlashFwd but won't give LOST a chance

    by turketron_2

I gave him season 1 and 2 a few years ago but the bastard never watched them. Every time I mention how good the show is, he responds with, "I dunno man... I saw a couple of episodes of season 1 and it was aiight.. but I wasn't sold. I think there's been too many episodes to catch up with now". Then, one day a few weeks ago he asks if I ever seen Flash Forward. I'm like, yeah, it's a decent enough show but it's not great... definitely not on the level of Lost. The guy refuses to give lost an honest chance, but seems to love the hell out of flash forward and thinks its one of the best shows he's ever seen. *Big fucking sigh*...

your friend has an ego problem. Try not to take it seriously. He won't understand that LOST is a serial, and EVERY episode is necessary. If you also told him "trust me, the plot thickens, the show develops, all this crazy stuff happens", he has a choice to trust you, or not. So far, doesn't sound like he wants to trust you. Maybe he's lazy. Maybe he's just like my HEROES friends who won't give LOST a chance. At your friend has better taste than my friends.

no Hatch needed in the ALT, because the incident didn't happen in the ALT. Also, Ben isn't on the island in the ALT, and I assume Widmore wasn't banished from the island in the ALT, to become Penny's father and eventually spurn Desmond on to sailing and getting shipwrecked on the island.

But luckily I have had more successes than failures with getting friends into the show. One friend I got into it early on when I first got into it (during one of the long hiatuses in s1 after reading an article in a magazine... f'ing TV Guide now that I think about it!) gave up right after the mini pod of S3. He venomously hated those first 6 episodes of season 3 and never went back, even after I tried to explain that the rest of season 3 actually got good, and S4 was absolutely awesome, etc.

    3. the hatch is where jughead was buried at right?
...wit those questions asked, my brain is now implodin (or explodin, dependin on what you think John did to the sub lol)... 4. from LostPedia on the Incident

    by turketron_2

The Incident, first mentioned by "Dr. Marvin Candle" in the Swan Orientation film ("Orientation"), was an electromagnetic anomaly that caused a catastrophic event at The Swan construction site. The Incident occurred on the fourth day following the Oceanic Six's return to the Island in July of 1977, when a drilling accident at the site of the Swan station unleashed a pocket of electromagnetic energy. While the Swan Station was originally being built to harness this energy, the DHARMA Initiative was forced to construct The Swan to contain the energy with large amounts of concrete, using the protocol to regulate the anomaly.

However, doubt has been cast on an electromagnetic anomaly being the cause of The Incident. It was briefly suggested by Miles that the survivors' plan to detonate the core of a hydrogen bomb (itself a fission bomb) at The Swan construction site might actually be the cause of The Incident, not the anomaly. Daniel Faraday suggested that detonating a nuclear device might prevent the electromagnetic anomaly, beginning a chain of events which ultimately results in Oceanic Flight 815 not crashing on The Island. His theory contradicted his earlier theory that events of the past cannot be altered. Currently, Miles's prediction remains a possibility, since the hydrogen bomb outcome is unclear.

    2. The purge is when ben used the poisonous gas in the tempest to kill the dharma folks, it happened around 1991, we've only seen it in a flashback.

    3. Jughead was buried under the temple, the hatch was the station dharma was gonna use to tap into the electromagnetic power in the island.

    by hobocode

Yeah it was going to be the 26th originally but then the administration wanted to give more time to the Senate to finalize the health care bill before the speech. So they threw out moving it to the following Tuesday, which happened to be the 2nd. But the admin has since said it will not be that date. It wasn't some bullshit Twitter campaign tha tchanged their minds. It was probably ABC basically telling them they wouldn't air the speech if it conflicted with its already highly marketed Lost 2-2 premiere.

    by tippida

and love the shit outta it.
I can understand people not wanting to get on board now simply due to the amount of couch time required t oatch up with the story, I had the same problem convincing people to watch "Arrested Development", I told them they had to watch from minute one because the episodes aren't self contained, and they tend to set up jokes 3 episodes in advance. Alas, most of us know what happened to that show. I haven't got into 24 yet, but that's the show I'm buying after LOST finishes so I don't have to wait and buy the whole fucking show on Bluray and try to have some kind of assnumbing couchathon to try and catch up. Same deal with "Dexter". Watched a couple of eps, loved it, but haven't had the time or inclination to sit and watch them on the tube... just purchased season 1-3 on bluray.. god bless you ebay.
By the way, are people still using "fucktard"?, that's so cute, its almost like its a little slice of nostalgia for the trolls from 2004 who overused it at the time.

No I'm not saying anything. I agree with you. The Feb. 2 date was something that was reported as a date the White House was considering. How valid that report was is in contention since the source seemed to be unclear. But traditionally the SOTU has always been the last week in January except for incoming President's who don't actually do a SOTU. so it stood to reason that if the admin wanted to delay it for Senate tht they would do it the following week to preserve the timing as much as possible. but you're right it was probably just lazy reporting.
I don't see how ABC could air both since it's a two hour premiere with an hour recap show preceding it. The SOTU can be brief but often it takes quite a long time, especially for newer President's and the incessant applauding that goes wit hthe SOTU. Showing a 3 hour Lost event starting between 9 and 10 is certainly something that would eat into ad revenue for the network and thus something they would discourage.

    Season 5 = Disappointing

    by steve young

Not to say it wasn't a damn fine season of television. It was. But it bugged me that not ONE character argued the point that detonating a bomb would "cause" the thing they were trying to avoid. Not the physicist, not the intelligent soldier, not the doctor, not even the sci-fi geek. It doesn't even matter if they were right or not. (About resetting the timeline - from reports it looks like they did?) That NO ONE except Miles (at the very end of the season) considered the possibility bugs me to the point of distraction.

Daniel Faraday had some complicated explanation for why they could change history, but it sounded like a bunch of self-delusional hooey, even if he was right. No one called him on it; almost everyone took him at his word. They were more worried about the destructive power of the bomb than the paradoxical conundrums its potential detonation brought up.

    re: STEPDADDY / Stuck

    by steve young

STEPDADDY: That's a good point. The Losties have never been good at asking questions, but after Season 3 they got much, much better at it.It's true that some were against setting off Jug, but their reasons seemed vaguely mired in the destructive nightmare it might produce, and not so much in the "possible fulfillment of paradox". i.e. they thought Faraday was crazy for wanting to blow shit up, but no one seemed to seriously consider the possible paradox.StuckInthePresent: Yes, that's the scene I referred to in my above post, where Miles says derisively, "What? You guys never considered this scenario?" It's a GREAT scene, but it came way too late in the season - right up against the finale, basically. And Hurley usually comes up with this stuff in his sleep.I guess the reason I'm making a big deal about this is the major question of the season - are they causing or preventing The Incident? - was never a hot football among the main characters. They never really had much time to consider or debate the question. And so as a viewer I kept going back and forth on whether or not it was supposed to be an issue at all.

    I sort of agree, Steve...

    by themarinebiologist

I too was bugged by their inability to question Faraday (and later Jack), in this whole Jughead plan. Miles NAILED it in that scene, but he was just met with "meh, whatever, let's do it anyway." I was also kinda peeved at Juliet's decisions throughout the course of the finale.

However, I wouldn't go so far as to say that the season was disappointing. We got the awesomeness that was Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, the return of Eloise Hawking, Marvin Candle as a character, Ben's Dead is Dead episode, Ben vs. Desmond, and then Jacob vs. MIB.

FAR from a disappointing season, in my book. Still doesn't hold a candle to S4 (which I still contend is the greatest season of LOST).

    by themarinebiologist

I don't believe that the Constitution strictly said January, but rather that the President would have to brief Congress as to the current state of the union once every year.

That being said, the SOTU is nearly ALWAYS in January. If I recall correctly, it was only postponed to February ONCE and that was because of the Challenger explosion.

Obama's ONLY reasoning for postponing the SOTU to February (a very rare thing to do) was to have it so that the Health Care Bill and Airport Security would be well behind him so that he could assuage increasing negativity regarding his administration.

From a political perspective, it makes sense. To quote Clear and Present Danger: "the only thing that this administration wants is what all first term administrations want: a second term."

hey Steve Young, re: the bomb, the incident, and Miles

    by billboefett

You need to watch it again, because the idea of detonating Jughead from start to finish, takes place over less than 24 hours, not an entire season like you suggested. And the ONLY people who even knew about it, were Jack, Sayid, Kate, and the Other leadership. And they only found out about it a few minutes right before/after Faraday got shot. It was daytime there, could've been late afternoon. In fact, I'm saying its the same day, because Faraday came and woke Jack up early in the morning, and they went out to the Others not too long after that, when Faraday was shot. Then later, Sawyer and Juliet found out about it through Kate. Even as Hurley drove Jack and shot-Sayid to the Swan station, they really didn't know what was going on. Probably 30-60 mins after that, Miles came up with his "what if it's the bomb that sets the incident off??". Sayid, in the beginning of the ep, said "we have less than 2 hours to do this". So... no, people weren't missing an opportunity to think about it/debate it all season long.

I mean, we know that Daniel Faraday "always" gets them to try to detonate the bomb, which is why Faraday had already told Charlotte that she'll die if she goes back to the island. In other words, the whole bomb plot leads to the SAME future in which the plane crashes. So how is detonating the bomb supposed to create an alternate timeline?

also, about the Miles / Hurley conversation

    by maniaq

IIRC Hurley starts talking about how it's all very Back to the Future and wonders why his hand isn't disappearing or something, at which point Miles says something like "dummy! that's not how Time Travel works! it's still OUR present, even though it's everyone else's past!"
He basically argues that whatever happened happened (which is the title of the episode) - a thought echoed by Jack in the same ep - and although they're not actually talking about The Incident at this point, the implication is that MAYBE they cause things to happen but they sure as hell could never prevent them from happening...
so then Hurley says "ok, so how come Ben didn't recognise Sayid, who shot and nearly killed him in HIS past?"
    - to which Miles replies "oh I never thought of that!"

    And that was explained.

    by veebeeyes

Ben didn't recognize Sayid because before taking Ben in to save him, Richard explained that he wouldn't remember anything about the incident. I don't know if his loss of the memory was psychological or having to do with some method that was used to heal him. That's irrelevant. The fact is that this question is answered. He doesn't remember, because his healing requires that he doesn't remember. Everything works out exactly as it should. Everything seems to be working towards the idea that "what happened, happened". So there should be NO way that detonating the bomb can stop the plane from crashing, if EVERYTHING indicates that events leading up to the detonation of the bomb are part of the SAME past which is consistent with the future in which the plane has crashed. MILES doesn't know why Ben forgot about being shot by Sayid. But WE know why Ben forgot about getting shot by Sayid. And the answer is ENTIRELY consistent with the notion that "what happened, happened".

I have a theory and correct me if I am wrong!

    by themanwhocan

    (And probably am!)
Firstly, I thought that the plane that landed on the island minus the people that vanished of to 77 landed in the present but alternate reality BUT the runway probably would not have been built if the swan station explosion bomb plan worked so it would be safe to assume Sun, Illana, Ben, corpse Locke etc are in the original universe present Or maybe, just maybe the original universe at some point in the future (the distant future)!
Secondly, we know that the island people from 1977 (dharma and natives) onwards have influenced the lives of the main characters in small and sometimes large ways, after 1977, so, if the dharma people decide to leave the island (assuming they are even alive after the explosion or the anomaly thing in the ground destroyed thus Dharma decides not to continue with the island experiments) Marvin follows his wife and kid (miles) home for example pissed off with what those pesky future people did (to his arm, career etc) and decides to wait it out until 2003 and observe/influence the culprits as they grow up making sure they get on the oceanic flight from Sidney the same date as the original flight, (this would explain why in the Alt universe all/most the original cast are on the flight as it lands safely in LAX)oh fuck it I don’t know what s going on cant wait till February!!!!!!!!!

    I think I know who un-locke is!

    by themanwhocan

He IS John Locke just from the Alt universe; just it was Charlie from the alt universe (different hair cut and clothes remember) when he appeared to Hurley at the start of season 4, just as it was Alt-Anna Lucia who appeared to Hurley when he sped through red light when he was saving unconscious Sayid.(she told him that Libby said hi also) Just as it was Alt-Boone who appeared to Locke during his sweat lodge cure idea in Season 3, (he also showed Locke a glimpse of the Alt universe then) Just as it was alt-Christian Shepard who appeared to Jack in season 1. All these ‘ghosts’ died in the original universe but are still alive in the alt-universe these alt-characters also had no memory of there island adventures until the moment their alt (our original versions) died on or (in the case of strangled lock) off the island) once that happens the still living alt-version has the memory of both timelines and grants them the ability to communicate with certain gifted people in the original timeline, as they are both alive and dead at the same time. It is still true that “whatever happened, happened”, the swan station did exist and bring down flight 815 it also didn’t exist and didn’t bring down flight 815, It is still true that “dead is dead” as characters that have died remain dead (see John Lockes still unanimated dead body).
My Guess is that Season 6 will concentrate on the nature of these 2 concurrent running realities, and the motives of the alive/dead characters.

The alternate reality is caused by the detonation of the bomb at the swan site causing 2 separate timelines. one where the bomb detonation causes the 'incident' forcing the darmaa people to include some kind of machine to take care of the energy buildup problem which has to be released every 108 minutes. So miles was right in a sense the losties actions DID cause the incident however the losties DID distroy the swan site creating and alternate history BOTH happened(happened!) confusing maybe?, entertaining for sure!!

    No Problem with Paradox

    by steve young

I never had the problem with wrapping my mind around the timeline paradoxes; the conversation between Miles and Hurley (the one indoors, not outdoors) helped a lot of viewers understand it, but it was retread for me. I'm glad it was there though, because it's the perfect example of the writers showing the viewership that they've worked out all the possibilities. So I was bothered by the characters' inability to understand the further Jughead Paradox.Billboe Fett, you make an interesting case for the Losties' Overall Lostness, but I'm not sure I buy your argument. Whether a couple weeks in real-time or 24 hours in "show time" - the "they didn't have time to think about it!" argument doesn't work for me, because Miles and Hurley were able to piece together paradox arguments in an afternoon. The density of the show's plotting has never stopped the writers from cramming a few weeks' worth of revelation and exposition into a "few island days" before; so at the end of S5, the audience had way too much breathing room to feel ahead of the characters. (Though I may just be speaking for myself here.) Miles stepped up at the end, but no one really listened to him, which was frustrating for people like me who were thinking it all along.

    Just not that great

    by dennismm

I watched season one and season two on DVD a few years back. Season one was interesting. Season two started piling on the gimmicks, to the extent that the show became somewhat risible. I considered renting season three when it became available, but the desire just wasn't there. The show is a gimmick. It's always been a gimmick. It will always be a gimmick.

I would have agreed with you two years ago , but they pulled it round , and for me , it's reclaimed it's throne. Your right in some respects , it would have been a lot stronger if it was only 3 or 4 seasons long (I can say that , I'm not an actor on the show , so they can't kill me off ,and give me the sack....)
