Want a cool flick about WWII Monsters? NIGHT AND FOG is in the pipeline...

Published at:  Dec 29, 2009 2:59:27 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with a trade story from the monitor of Tatiana Siegel at Variety - and if you click that link, it'll take you to her story about how producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned STUDIO 407's horror comic, NIGHT AND FOG about Stephen King's MIST being released on a military base during WWII which transforms normalcy into supernatural fucked situations that none of us would want to be in, I'm betting. And killing them just makes them more fucked up. Saying this project is in the "pipeline" isn't actually so. They don't seem to have a screenwriter attached yet, nor a director, actors or any financing. So this is one of those projects that we'll watch and see if it comes to fruition. Personally, I love period alternate history horror & sci-fi. Right?

Have they really made to many attempts at this? Personally a Nazi Zombie WW2 film would kick major ass. Amazed Hollywood hasn't tackled this recently (if ever!)

Just checking up on the comic, it mentions some ties to WWII super solider experiments, but by and large it seems to take place in modern day Canada. That's just based on the premise/10-page preview, I may be missing something.

    never gonna happen

    by nightmute

How many movies do we read about that sound interesting but never get made? A lot. Bear in mind that some studios announce certain projects just to drum up interest in other projects, or they buy up properties simply so that other studios can't make them. It's a competitive marketplace. A lot of you guys complain about books never getting filmed, even when they've been optioned. This is why. Every best-seller you can think of has been picked up, but usually for the wrong reasons. Personally, I wouldn't sell a book to a studio unless I was absolutely certain it would get made. Michael Crichton actually sold Timeline for one dollar, but with the proviso that it got filmed. That was the deal. Um, it turned out to be a lousy movie, but he knew the system too well to give up his work on a whim. Of course, with his millions, it didn't much matter to him at the time. Most authors give up their goods too easily for the dumbest deals. Comics are the same. There are hundreds of comics "in development", but they got bought for peanuts and won't ever happen. Look forward to more remakes and sequels and sequels to remakes and reboots and remakes of sequels and sequels to reboots and more sequels to sequels of remakes. It's a safe bet

    by lornsorrow

I could not help but think of, wait for it.... ZONE TROOPERS (1985) with Tim Thomerson. Executive Producer, Charles Band (that should give you some idea what it is like). IMBD PLOT: in Italy during WW II, a patrol of American soldiers discover a space ship that has crash-landed in the woods, and they come across its alien crew. A nearby Nazi unit also finds out about the alien craft, and sends a patrol to capture it and the Americans.

Is it a great film classic? No. is it screwy and funny, yes. Great B film from the 80's with its own little cult following. Best scene, Mittens decking Hitler and then asking "Did I just K.O. Hitler?" Dolan: "You sure did, too bad you won't live to tell about it."

Picked this one up on a vhs at ebay and backed it up on to dvd. Hope some day a good dvd release comes out.

    I didn't give a shit about Basterd's 'alternate history'

    by quantize

it was the smug self aware 'humor', appalling dragging scenes, shithole montage and appalling casting..

People defending that shit need to wake the fuck up.

You can't even get your South Park episodes right. You're the infantile fan boy it sounds like to me. Hear that? It's your mommie calling to tell you dinner is ready. Pull up yer undies, zip up your pants and log off before she grounds you..

    Again.

    by duanejones

...oh, despair! Expect a news item/talkback thread soon, undoubtedly centering around the next Transformers "adaptation" featuring Khloe Kardashian which will be titled Triumph of the Will. And all the talkback dolts will discuss is how good Inseminoid was. And that is why I no longer wish to live... OK, that's a lie, I'm really looking forward to New Years Eve tonight. But. I am not looking forward to imbecilic talkbacks populated by culturally illiterate fandouches who don't know their Renais, much less anti-Fascist cinematic history, from a hole in the ground: http://tinyurl.com/mbb65q. Happy 2010, appeasers!
