Want a cool flick about WWII Monsters? NIGHT AND FOG is in the pipeline...
Hey folks, Harry here with a trade story from the monitor of Tatiana Siegel at Variety - and if you click that link, it'll take you to her story about how producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned STUDIO 407's horror comic, NIGHT AND FOG about Stephen King's MIST being released on a military base during WWII which transforms normalcy into supernatural fucked situations that none of us would want to be in, I'm betting. And killing them just makes them more fucked up. Saying this project is in the "pipeline" isn't actually so. They don't seem to have a screenwriter attached yet, nor a director, actors or any financing. So this is one of those projects that we'll watch and see if it comes to fruition. Personally, I love period alternate history horror & sci-fi. Right?

Have they really made to many attempts at this? Personally a Nazi Zombie WW2 film would kick major ass. Amazed Hollywood hasn't tackled this recently (if ever!)

StarQrtrs...there is a movie called The Keep( I think)
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
it's been years but I'm pretty sure that's the name. That is a WWII undead flick if it counts.
-
but a pretty darn good book (that the movie was loosely based on)
-
Can't go wrong. I still can't believe no ones optioned 2000ad's Fiends of the Eastern Front yet.
-
Back when he shot actual film. I'm psyched for this. It sounds like early Hellboy type stuff.
(Though, if you like the alternate history reality with the sci-fi edge, still avoid Mutant Chronicles like the plague. It's too stupid for words. Real wasted opportunity). -
'Dead Snow' has Nazi Zombies in it...
-
.. is the best horror IMO. Looking forward to seeing what's gonna happen with this one. We need some more stuff like this. Wouldn't mind a few weird westerns either.... and I liked The Keep. Hard to go wrong with Nazis vs. El Diablo.
-
Just checking up on the comic, it mentions some ties to WWII super solider experiments, but by and large it seems to take place in modern day Canada. That's just based on the premise/10-page preview, I may be missing something.
-
I'm sure you're not wrong (I have no idea one way or another), but all I could think of reading super soldiers + modern Canada is that now-abandoned storyline for Rambo 5 with the mutant beast...
-
A WW2 flick about Nazis trapped in a bunker full of ghosts.
Now that was a good film. -
It only sounds cool to douche frat-boys.
Hey dude, you know whats cooler than zombies? Nazi zombies!
Hell ya dude, and ninjas and pirates. fuck yeah we rock. -
How many movies do we read about that sound interesting but never get made? A lot. Bear in mind that some studios announce certain projects just to drum up interest in other projects, or they buy up properties simply so that other studios can't make them. It's a competitive marketplace. A lot of you guys complain about books never getting filmed, even when they've been optioned. This is why. Every best-seller you can think of has been picked up, but usually for the wrong reasons. Personally, I wouldn't sell a book to a studio unless I was absolutely certain it would get made. Michael Crichton actually sold Timeline for one dollar, but with the proviso that it got filmed. That was the deal. Um, it turned out to be a lousy movie, but he knew the system too well to give up his work on a whim. Of course, with his millions, it didn't much matter to him at the time. Most authors give up their goods too easily for the dumbest deals. Comics are the same. There are hundreds of comics "in development", but they got bought for peanuts and won't ever happen. Look forward to more remakes and sequels and sequels to remakes and reboots and remakes of sequels and sequels to reboots and more sequels to sequels of remakes. It's a safe bet

But will it be 45 minutes of germans and french dining...
by ricarleite2
... a tense dinner?
-
Wasn't it the third one where they had puppets with human souls killing Nazi's?

FLOCKA!!!

Please put all of your retarded comments under one post. Subject spamming should be bannned.

Isn't this a Kafkaesque Woody Allen film?
-
So I too, find them scary!!
-
heard of the movie, but never read or saw either. You could sort of put Hellboy into period horror...Nazis vs Supernatural.

Hitler parody scenes from "Downfall" commencing in 5... 4...

check out the film "The Outpost" starring Titus Pullo. It's set in modern day but has occult Nazi zombie thingies as the monsters. Pretty good little flick. I think it's still on Netflix streaming, that's where I watched it.
-
You're thinking of Shadows and Fog. However, Night and Fog is indeed the title of another movie ... a short documentary from 1955 about the Holocaust.
-
FLOCKA!!!
-
...by the guy who does the Repairman jack series. Now that would be an awesome movie series. I know it's been in development for some time. The Tomb is an urban action thriller horror that is made for the movies. Just wish they'd made it about ten years ago cause a young Christoper Meloni would've been perfect for Repairman Jack.
-
Yes, recycling seems to be in even for movie titles... like "Repo Man".
-
a period horror movie. Except that it was dark comedy. And had no monsters. Unless you count cannibals as monsters. I just think they have childhood issues.
-
...if you count pedophiles in the cast.
-
They are re-writing World War 2 as science fiction and calling it "Night and Fog"? I am not easily offended by this is offensive. If you don't know why this is offensive, see the 1955 Night and Fog also about World War 2 and about as far from sci-fi as you can get.
-
If you want to see a pretty good little Nazi Zombie flick that was made for realitively little money, then watch Shockwaves. True!...there was little blood spilled, but the atmosphere and creepiness of the underwater zombies, as well as the inclusion of Peter Cushing in one of his last roles make it worth viewing.
-
Thanks for bringing that one up! That's a great flick, I'll have to put that in my queue again.

THIS is a sentence?

You know what we're really gonna like Manifestchaos? When Morons like you stop calling people Morons for not liking Basterds "alternate" ending.
-
and shits mist
-
Whatever banbury, Harry could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out a more grammatically correct sentence than you. Keep your editing comments to yourself.
-
X2 on that. Anyone who has seen "Night and Fog" knows that the tools who are titling this one not only have no sense of history, in terms of taste, they have no sense, period.
-
"Personally, I love period alternate history horror & sci-fi. Right?"Harry, since you are the first and foremost expert on knowing which things you love... exactly who the hell am I to disagree?Goodness. I swear I can actually feel brain cells withering away in my skull with each article I read on this site.
-
They never run out of reasons to make a WW2 movie.
-
"Saying this project is in the "pipeline" isn't actually so."
Then why the fuck did you say it was in the "pipeline" in the header... -
Although it's the sentence immediately after the one you quoted that has me scratching my head. It's like a story told by an Alzheimer's patient. While he walks down the street wearing no pants and one house-slipper.
-
Check out this link if you want to see a truly ass kicking and cool concept for a WWII project being made in Poland. It centers around the Warsaw uprising in 1944, except it's done as a science fiction piece called HARDKOR 44! Ain't it cool news???...yer damn right! http://conceptartworld.com/?p=2370

You people are fucking retards, and you fucking disgust me, but I'm still sorry for you.
-
I posted six times in the middle of the night when nobody else was posting. According to your retard-solipsism universe that means I should be banned ... good thing NOBODY GIVES A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK. Carry on.
-
Have you seen the South Park episode about Scientology? "Dum[b] dum[b] dum[b] dum[b] dum[b]...." It's like they wrote it for you, buddy.
-
Sex in the City 3 takes place in a small town in Maine near a military base. "I'm Fucking There!!!"
-
Variety can't even reference the source material properly. The comic takes place in Canada and in rencent times not WWII. The tech the project is researching (which was first invented by Nazis in WWII)is a mutagen. 'The Mist' was a side effect of a dimensional tear.
-
like the ending to the Mist did.
-
my vote is for Jeffrey Donovan
But if they're going to do it, it'd have to be soon or he'll age out of the role -
When?? I mean, if it was done right and NOT fucked up, it could be cool. But whatever... And as for the above poster who mentioned Shockwaves, I right there. Big fan. Certainly it is the best of the Nazi Zombie films. Could easily have been a John Carpenter film actually. Masterpiece of atmosphere.
-
I could not help but think of, wait for it.... ZONE TROOPERS (1985) with Tim Thomerson. Executive Producer, Charles Band (that should give you some idea what it is like). IMBD PLOT: in Italy during WW II, a patrol of American soldiers discover a space ship that has crash-landed in the woods, and they come across its alien crew. A nearby Nazi unit also finds out about the alien craft, and sends a patrol to capture it and the Americans.
Is it a great film classic? No. is it screwy and funny, yes. Great B film from the 80's with its own little cult following. Best scene, Mittens decking Hitler and then asking "Did I just K.O. Hitler?" Dolan: "You sure did, too bad you won't live to tell about it."
Picked this one up on a vhs at ebay and backed it up on to dvd. Hope some day a good dvd release comes out. -
what the hell is this?
-
FLOCKA!!!
-
that the writer who wrote the original screenplay that the comic was adapted from isn't writing the screenplay which he already wrote.
I call shenanigans. -
I stand corrected.

I stand corrected.DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM!

The sequel could be WWII Pirates Clowns and Ninjas. Then you could round out the trilogy with WWII Vikings, Hawkmen and Midget Samurai. These are ferociously original and exiting ideas!
-
That's a good one.
-
.........I forgot MIMIC (1997) sorry about that Guillermo del Toro..........MIMIC would have to be watched on repeat..........
-
Thanks for the heads up Archienemesis. Great link! Outpost was a decent film, I have it. Really damn good news to hear about a sequel! Thank you!!! Now if only they would do Dog Soldiers 2. !

It could be moved to WWII and hitlers occult weapons research -
Didn't the mist bomb?
-
If it ever gets made. Also read the links about the original movie. Who knew the French made movies?
-
You know you wanna see that movie...King Henry kills all his brides until he is seduced by a new woman, whom he marries. But he discovers she is a vampire, and now he must kill another bride before he is killed himself! Also in the pipeline, Julius Ceasar and the two-day old Mummy!
-
Despite being a good popcorn horror movie, the mist didn't do well. Add it to the pantheon of entertaining movies that had weak box office the first go like The thing, tron, and a dozen others.

...a guy sticks his head through a trap-door in the wall, only to have it cut off by some sort of energy ball?
Only scene I remember, and I'm not even sure if it's the same movie... -
"Bedknobs and Broomsticks" with Angela Lansbury animated all of the antique military equipment from the museum when a Nazi squad sneaks into England. That movie was awesome.
-
Fuck the little mermaid and anything with The Rock in it. B&B is how kids' flicks should be done.
-
Ben Affleck's WWII films.
-
it was the smug self aware 'humor', appalling dragging scenes, shithole montage and appalling casting..
People defending that shit need to wake the fuck up. -
You can't even get your South Park episodes right. You're the infantile fan boy it sounds like to me. Hear that? It's your mommie calling to tell you dinner is ready. Pull up yer undies, zip up your pants and log off before she grounds you..
Again. -
....Can't beleive I haven't seen OUTPOST yet thanks.....DEATHWATCH, RAVENOUS, and THE BURROWERS fucking love horror period PEICES........THE BURROWERS was fucking awesome......... I've been on a WESTERN binge for the last 6 months........

where he shoves his cock all over 70% of europe and then has some borscht.

I believe it might be the same movie, too.

this sounds like a Jett "scoop"!!

I got one fer ya.

...oh, despair! Expect a news item/talkback thread soon, undoubtedly centering around the next Transformers "adaptation" featuring Khloe Kardashian which will be titled Triumph of the Will. And all the talkback dolts will discuss is how good Inseminoid was. And that is why I no longer wish to live... OK, that's a lie, I'm really looking forward to New Years Eve tonight. But. I am not looking forward to imbecilic talkbacks populated by culturally illiterate fandouches who don't know their Renais, much less anti-Fascist cinematic history, from a hole in the ground: http://tinyurl.com/mbb65q. Happy 2010, appeasers!

Heh heh heh...

Deadbirds is the best 'period-horror'.
-
....I forgot another one of my favorite Bug flicks STARSHIP TROOPERS..........Speaking of which TAKASHI MIIKE should make a few American Horror flicks team up with QUENTIN TARANTINO, ROBERT RODRIGUEZ , and the man ELI ROTH.......this would be a great into for MIIKE and AMERICA.........or my Homeage screenplay to SLASHER flicks.....
-
.......My mind is wondering a mile a minute........I watched REPO MAN and BLOODSUCKING FREAKS on New Years eve didn't do a fucking thing and spent the night alone.....But Isn't BLOODSUCKING FREAKS the shiznit...RALPHUS is the shit....ELI ROTH and company should make a sequel set in the 70's with NICHOLAS CAGE as Master SARDU.............
