UPDATE!! No Need To Switch To Satellite!! Fox & TWCable Reach Retransmission Agreement!!

Published at:  Jan 04, 2010 7:37:49 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

UPDATE!! News Corp. and Time Warner Cable reached a retransmission agreement late New Year's Day without Fox pulling its content from the cable system for even a minute.

ORIGINAL PROPHETIC POST:

News Corp. president Chase Carey says it’s likely Time Warner will drop the Fox Network, FX, Fox News and Fox Business from its channel lineup at the end of Dec. 31.

But contain your excitement. I suspect that’s not going to happen. How can Time Warner not cave to News Corp.’s fee demands?

My sense is Time Warner needs Fox a lot more than Fox needs Time Warner. Even if Time Warner elects to play hardball, fans of Fox programming can:

1) Watch Fox shows on Fox.com or Hulu,
2) buy an antenna (and maybe a $50 digital converter box if they own an older TV) and get Fox over the air, or
3) switch to satellite providers like DirecTV or Dish.

If Time Warner decides to keep Fox dark on its systems much beyond the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl kickoff, it risks millions of subscribers switching to satellite for good!

Here’s when new episodes return to Fox, so you can make your contingency plans:

    Fox has more to lose

    by thewacokid

Fox is on the verge of losing millions of customers which means millions in advertising. I hate Time Warner but I am forced to have them. My apartment does not face the right direction for satellite and I can't put it on the roof. This means time warner only. They both have a lot to lose. The main four stations should be free. As much as I hate time warner they are right not giving Into fox demands. If they give in it would set a precedent for all the other companies. Keep Strong Time Warner!

If Fox does go dark on Time Warner it's because Fox refused to give Time Warner the signal not Time Warner deciding to shut off the channels. I have Comcast and I'd pay extra for Fox News to go dark permanently. Also Time Warner is the cable provider for the 2 largest tv markets in the US, New York and LA Fox really can't afford to lose those viewers for very long. Either way it's really the customer who loses when 2 big companies squabble over money.

    by mjdeviant

Hulu and renting is where its at. You do whatever you need to to do all day and not owrry about catching a damn show so you can watch it whenever you want later. I'm not a Nielsen person, so it doesn't matter if I watch shows anyways, so I just watch like one show of them and then buy the dvds if I like it. AND, FOX can go to hell for ever canceling "Arrested Development". Hulu is great, british shows like Spaced, shows aren't uploaded too late after they air IMO, you can just pretend they aren't on until that day if it bothers you. AND the ads are short and dare I say seemingly better. As in more to the point and less annoying.

I can't stand Fox and its operating philosophy: lies, bullshit, botox, and blowhards. No substance at all.
Thus I'm not ever in their corner.
The only channel I'd miss if it was blacked out would be FX. "The Shield," "Damages," and other quality TV-MA shows are valuable contributions to the viewing world. I'd like to see this channel continue its good work.
But Fox news and every other Fox channel? Nah. As expressed above, to me it's all LBBB.
    I guess we'll see.

Yeah, No. This is all well and good up unto a certain point, but their NFL contract renders it an non issue. I cannot imagine Fox in any capacity can afford to hemorrhage the revenues their Sundays generate. Likewise i'm doubtful of the NFL tolerating more than a day of their pre-playoff games being blacked out nationally due to Murdocks' early onset dementia.

This at best will be a short fight, and if it goes poorly for fox, It'll be interesting to see them try and recover.

If you think this doesn't matter. Fact is, Beck has the highest rating @ 5-6 PM time slot. O'Reilly normally triples CNN and MSNBC combined. American Idol and 24 are good for at least 4s in the ratings dept. (American Idol closer to 5-6 or 7). The Bowl Games are good for at worst 4s. Fox might be a shady company to some, however their appeal can be proven by numbers. Lastly, it's my understanding that TW's cable service is abysmal anyway, so that will cause customers to leave if this isn't taken care of... like today.

use Time Warner. These battles are petty and use customers as pawns. If the Sat companies do this, get a second high speed provider and grab the shows you like via torrent. Let them all burn in hell if they think they can abuse customers like this. But.. but what about all those content producers and actors/technicians/workers? Hey, guess what buddy... something tells me that as long as a need is there, someone, somewhere will find a way to fill it. Stop protecting the status quo and old business models by towing the line and repeating the talking points of people who you owe NOTHING and who would not piss on you to save you from burning to death. You don't protect any jobs by respecting an industry that holds you in contempt and respects you about as much as a blow up doll.

    by kaiser soze

as a temporary measure because the FCC said that the Fox/TWC bickering should not be allowed to affect customers on New Year's Day. It had nothing to do with either side wavering. Fox basically wants to charge TWC $1 per subscriber. Honestly, though, TWC has the worst digital service of any of the big name providers. If they lose Fox and its sister channels and programming, that might be the nail in the TWC coffin.

thats a good joke, because clearly youve never had comcast or about any other provider ... they all suck and offer about half the choices TW does... i just changed providers from tx to comcast and its like a bad joke how much worse comcast is.

i knew they would cave...it wouldnt have affected me..i can go online and watch anything i like in multiple places....i know everyone goes to HULU cuz theyre told to....for those that dont know, there are dozens and dozens of sites to watch free tv, and u dont have to deal with ads....satellite is for losers, wind blows too hard u lose signal, rains or snows too hard, no signal...etc....cable is on all the time through all weather..more channels, the list goes on....and even if TWC lost fox they wouldnt care...TWC had to pay them to retransmit fox broadcasts, not the other way around...i think some of u have it backwards

Don't know what you're talking about, but I and most of my fellow apartment dwelling friends might be a little miffed if we had lost Fox, but wouldn't have really cared that much and WOULD NOT be switching to a dish just for them. Fox's constant ads during their Sunday night toons was more annoying than anything. Cartoon Network shows Family Guy and American Dad anyway, can always watch Simpsons online. Same with any FX show. House is good, but no big loss. About it. 2 big businesses squabbling in front of us like we cared anything about either of them, as if they weren't both just screwing us. We don't care about you, you selfish bastards. Guessing the backlash was against both, so they caved to each other.

I had TWC until they left the area and Comcast took over - I left Comcast for Direct TV because kept having problems with their customer service, but they were miles better than what we had to deal with when TWC was controlling the area. As far as digital picture, Comcast looked better than TWC, and Directv blows them both out of the water. Not a joke, man, TWC blows!

    TWC manipulates cluecless collectivists

just say FOX and watch all the Obama worshipers jump to do whatever they are told to do. Who said FOX??!?! What should I do, drop my cable? Should I cut my balls off? Does Barry want me to cut my balls off? Cause I'll do it if it will hurt FOX!! Meanwhile TWC is laughing their asses off because people are too stupid to push for alacarte subscriptions so you don't have to give FOX any money if you don't want to.
