SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Taxi’s fifth and final season aired not on ABC as did its prior four seasons but on NBC, which stuck it between “Hill Street Blues” and a low-rated new show called “Cheers.” This was 1982, two years before “The Cosby Show” would replace “Gimme A Break,” transform NBC’s Thursday night fortunes and launch the network’s Must See TV era.

Note how many episodes were scripted or co-scripted by the great David Lloyd (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Cheers”), who passed away very recently, and the amazing Sam Simon, who would go on to mastermind the earliest and best seasons of “The Simpsons”:

5.1 “The Schloogel Show.” In an episode that will seed many sequels before series end, newlyweds Latka and Simka fix up all of Latka’s co-workers with blind dates, including an actual blind girl for Louie. (Jim’s match is “Bob Newhart Show” actress Marcia Wallace.) Written by Ken Estin and Sam Simon.

5.2 “Jim’s Inheritance.” Jim’s siblings stand between Jim and a small fortune. Written by Ken Estin.

5.3 “Alex Goes Off The Wagon.” Reiger tries to shake his gambling addiction. Written by Danny Kallis.

5.4/5 Scenskees from a Marriage.” Simka is obliged by religious law to sleep with one of Lakta’s friends after his infidelity is discovered. Written by Ian Praiser and Howard Gewirtz.

5.6 “Crime and Punishment. Assistant dispatcher Jeff is jailed after Louie lets him take the fall for Louie’s embezzlement. Written by Katerine Green.

5.7 “Alex The Gofer.” Reiger takes a low-level job working for a pair of theatre producers considerably younger than him. Written by David Lloyd.

5.8 “Louie’s Revenge.” Louie’s obsession turned him into her slave. Written by Sam Simon.

5.9 “Travels With My Dad.” Tony takes off around the world with his estranged merchant-seaman father. Written by Barton Dean.

5.10 “Elaine and the Monk.” A monk friend of Latka’s is allowed to spend one day every decade partaking of worldly pleasures, and decides to spend a big part of that day with Elaine. Written by David Lloyd.

5.11 “Zena’s Honeymoon.” Louie refuses after his ex invites him to her wedding. Written by David Lloyd.

5.12 “Get Me Through The Holidays.” Reiger’s depressed ex-wife (Louise Lasser) begs to hang around him for the holidays. Written by Ken Estin and Sam Simon.

5.13 “Louie Moves Uptown.” Louie tries to move into a fancy co-op with a bigoted board. Written by David Lloyd.

5.14 “Alex’s Old Buddy.” Reiger decides to take custody from his sister of his elderly old dog, who doesn’t seem long for this world. Written by Ken Estin and Sam Simon.

5.15 “Sugar Ray Nardo.” Elaine’s son Jason takes up boxing against his mother’s wishes. Written by Katerine Green.

5.16/17 “A Taxi Celebration.” An hour-long clip show covering the show’s five-year run. Written by Holly Holmberg Brooks, James L. Brooks, Glen Charles, Les Charles, Stan Daniels, David Davis, Barton Dean, Ken Estin, Howard Gewirtz, Katherine Green, Barry Kemp, Michael Leeson, David Lloyd, Eearl Poerantz, Ian Praiser, Sam Simon and Ed. Weinberger.

5.18 “Alex Gets Burned By An Old Flame.” Reiger finds himself attracted to an old friend of Jim’s. Written by Barton Dean.

5.19 “Louie and the Blind Girl.” Louie freaks out when he learns his hot, blind girlfriend is undergoing surgery to restore her sight. Teleplay by Ken Estin, Sam Simon and Al Aidekman; story by Larry Scott Anderson.

5.20 “Arnie Meets The Kids.” Elaine’s nerdy new boyfriend tries to bribe her kids into liking him. Written by John Markus.

5.21 “Tony’s Baby.” Tony makes an unenthusiastic marriage proposal after his girlfriend learns she’s pregnant. Written by Dan Daniels.

5.22 “Jim’s Mario’s.” Jim buys the gang’s hangout with his inheritance money. Written by Ken Estin and Sam Simon.

5.23 “A Grand Gesture.” Newly wealthy Jim gives his friends $1,000 each, with the condition that they must in turn give the money away. Written by Ken Estin and Sam Simon.

5.24 “Simka’s Monthlies.” In the series finale, Simka is hit with a monster case of PMS just as she’s trying to prove to immigration authorities that her love for Latka is real. Written by Holly Holmberg Brooks.

    Taxi was a great series

    by glenn_the_frog

Though I could have sworn A Grand Gesture was the series finale, and not Simka's pms. Hrm.

    first, I guess

    by glenn_the_frog

not nearly as satisfying as those that rush for it consistently seem to make it. Pretty dull, really.

So I guess we're not gonna see...

    by eustisclay

...season 2 of Wiseguy? I bought the 9 dollar edition of season 1 that you hyped now I have to shell out 40 to rebuy it to get the rest of the seasons. I don't know why they didn't just release the individual seasons first. I just assumed that if they were releasing one season(and this was just a few months ago) they would continue going that route first. Shit if I'd known they were donna do this, I'd have saved my money.

    Taxi, was awesome

    by paulloch

yes, grand gesture was the last one shown, but simka's monthlies was the last one shot. they should include Judd Hircsh's emmy speech in the extras, best award speech ever. Like Cheno's speech this year but angry and acerbic, "I got this, now all I need is a job." And, "hey NBC, we just won a bunch of these, could you put us back on the air" just classic.

    I hope Leno gets cancelled

    by powerring

Or banished to the morning or soap opera time slot. Leno: lame, tired jokes. South park: toilet humor. Both have overstayed their welcome. Ratings levels don't concern me, I simply won't watch the shows...they are that bad.

the Wiseguy collector's edition does not come with the episodes in the Dead Dog Records story arc because the music rights couldn't be secured.

I know Six better than Six knows Six

    by electroaddict

"The Prisoner" remake was 2, maybe 3 hours too long. But I understand why they wanted to drag that shit out to 6 episodes total. Lame. Aside from the story, by biggest complaint about the remake was that the original rover special effects looked better than they did in the remake... how the fuck did they screw that up so bad? If they didn't like the rover ball idea, why not just get rid of it entirely? They certainly didn't have any problems pissing all over the original story.

    Herc is the biggest spammer

    by wellz

on AICN.All that shows up on Coax anymore are 'special cool deals' that include Herc's affiliate ID and have comments disabled... then the rest of the 'content' is shit pulled from Nelson ratings. With maybe 5 useful posts a week, AICN is worthless for TV
