REPO MEN, not a remake, trailer - is restricted, has boobies, blood and Jude Law!
SPOILER ALERT !!
Hey folks, Harry here... and I'm pretty happy about this. I haven't been following REPO MEN thus far. Just the title made me think about glowing trunks - but was very happy to see that while the film is about Repo Men, it is a science fiction film about bionic body parts that get repossessed when you miss your payments. That's all manners of fucked up, and I wonder if the new Health Bill has a proviso for bionic body part repossession.... because frankly... we should be protected from this future. You have to fill out one of those PROOF OF AGE things to see the trailer, but it's pretty much totally worth the effort.
Here ya go!!!

I never thought too much about Jude Law until I saw him on B'Way in Hamlet: He did a great job. Then I read about him throwing oranges at some skanks in a NYU dorm that were spying on him while he was doing yoga and I liked him even more. Now this trailer? Sold!
-
And I like them, a lot! Even if the movie ends up sucking, you've got to give them kudos for the concept. And with Jude Law and Forest Whitaker in there you'd have to have a pretty bad script not to get something reasonably entertaining out of it.

It's like this except they sing.

Can you just steal an entire concept and title element, get rid of all the cool dystopian futuristic stuff and make it a Jude Law action film? Ayup.

by bileranter
People should give it a chance and let's face it, Repo wasn't that great. It was ok - but not great. Still, it gives fat goths something do when a movie is playing by standing in front of a movie screen and miming.
-
im incredibly surprised harry didnt acknowledge that the premise was lifted from the genetic opera! WTF?
-
Corwin--I'm friends with the folks who made the Genetic Opera. Trust me, it CAN be this blatant and shameless. I'm not at liberty to divulge all of what I've been told, but take my word for it--this piece of shite would not exist if not for the Opera. You have NO idea how closely and consciously this project shadowed the Opera, backroom dealings and all. If it ever goes to a major court battle (and I hope it does) no judge in his/her right mind could see otherwise. (Hint: the original title was "Repossession Mambo", and a novelization exists under that name!) The only solace any of us Opera fans have is how bad this movie probably is--it's been in the can for almost 3 years--and it's likely to thoroughly tank. The cynical among you will probably disbelieve or not care, but everyone else, I beg of you--don't give your money to this thing, at least until you can see it for free.
-
No it wasn't, you simply have no idea the history of the concept, and I doubt you know anyone involved. Of course I don't expect you to take my word for it, but I also don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
-
It looks like one of those movies that would make a better book.

And that age verification thing was shit in Firefox, not very user friendly, whoever coded it needs to learn that some people are talented enough not to use a mouse for everything.
-
Wow. Worst. timed. post. ever.
-
That is all.
-
... then my sympathy for your mates who did the Opera. Hope they can nail these guys to the wall in court. Also explains why I'd never heard of this film until it suddenly popped up. If it was filmed three years ago then they're obviously chucking it out now on the back of what looks likely to be good reviews of Jude Law's turn in Sherlock Holmes.
-
My last post was meant for tensticks... My bad....
-
...to your stew.
-
That's exactly it. They were waiting, first, for the Opera to come out and the "fuss" to die down from its fans (it won't), and then they were waiting for a high profile project from one of the stars that they could piggyback it on. I do hope my friends can nail them in court, because I am pretty certain they can demonstrably upend all the writers' claims that he was working on this in the 90s. I don't expect this thing to turn much of a profit--after being shelved for 3 years AND retitled, with the novelization (clearly marked as such!) released under the old title a full year before--but it would be nice if any profits it DOES make could be assigned to the OPERA folks, since they fucking deserve it for creating the whole concept and storyline. It really is, seriously, almost a clone--sans the music.
-
So at least I and hopefully others are now going to go out and buy the original!
-
I don't see why?
-
looks like a great sci-fi actioner, i read the initial script but i've heard its been completley re-written so i can't claim if this movie will knock your sox off, but that trailer definetly got me pumped
-
Repo the genetic opera is available on DVD. You can get it pretty much anywhere that sells DVDs (yes even Wal Mart) or order it online. But it IS an opera, a rock (and specifically goth) opera specifically--there's more singing than dialogue--and while you may dig the concept, it still may not be your cup of tea--I personally love it, but I'm a fan of this sort of thing. But give it a try, I'd love to know what you think. morphiaflow@yahoo.com
-
Everyone who like that movie is a closet homosexual. Finally they make an adaptaion for straight men with Repo Men.
-
I'd forgotten Minority Report. After seeing the same plot rehashed so many times, it all blurs together.
-
I just hate it when they do that!!
-
the fuck?
-
Thanks for clearing that up, I had no idea that all the girls who showed up to see this half naked at the theatre I owned makes me homosexual. But then you're just a worthless troll yourself. Sucks for you that John Wayne is dead. (Who, incidentally, as established in the REAL "REPO MAN" film--Alex Cox's, from 1984--WAS a closet homosexual, and a cross dresser to boot. Alex Cox--there's someone else who should sue these motherfuckers.)
-
But I love film and I've got an open mind. Also, I'm very relaxed about my sexuality (straight) and that of a number of my friends (gay). So who's "closeted" tradeskiltz? Feeling insecure about something are we?

I bet you enjoyed Chicago and Moulin Rogue also.

Thats a textbook closet homo reply. Listen, men enjoy the company of men with similar interests and lifestyles. Straight men dont generally hang with homos. It got nothing to do with us being afraid of 'turning homo' or anything. Its just that faggots like to watch chess and the sound of music and we like to watch motor sports.
Trust me dude, you are gay.
-
Probably not my cup of tea but I'll still give it a go - Anthony Head is usually good value in anything. Also - have you ever seen Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire (1987)? If you're into off-the-wall musicals/opera I reckon you'd really like it. It's a minor cult film in the UK but didn't get a lot of international attention.
-
REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA can't get funding for a sequel, but this dumbass piece of shit ripoff with one of the least charismatic actors to ever live gets to be made (and probably on a higher budget than REPO ever got)?
Fuck. this. shit. -
yes I did! I've even run live productions of Moulin Rouge...and Repo...And I'm a lifelong ROCKY HORROR fan too! You'd be AMAZED at the number of girls who come to shows like that...and since they DO draw a lot of gay men, there's less competition. In any case, I'm not gay...but even if I were...what's your fucking point, exactly? That you're a homophobe, or rather much more likely, that you're in the closet yourself? (Oh of course, you're a "Real Man", I forgot...neverminding the number of "tough guy" actors and athletes who are, in fact, total cake boys...)

there is always one troll who comes in and lies that Repossession Mambo came first as well as at least one that accuses any male who loves Repo! of being a homosexual. No one needs to rush to the defense of this being a blatant ripoff of Repo! The proof is out there in spades and you don't even have to look very hard to find it. And once you do, hopefully you will be left asking yourself how in the fuck any studio could get away with something like this. I feel very bad for Terrance and Darren seeing this thing finally getting released. When it kind of slipped into oblivion I thought it was over and that Universal had been sued and that Terrance had won. Guess not. Damn shame.

-
I'm sure he didn't get any cash out of their non-existent marketing budget as opposed to the few coins he was tossed by Universal to post this trailer. You have to give ass, cash or a set visit in order to get your movie any kind of positive play on this site.
-
Well said indeed. Terrance, Darren & Darren are all very busy with their other projects (look for Terrrance's comic and Darren's Mother's Day in 2010!) but I know they're still keeping a close eye on this mess. I really think in the long run this will be all to theirs and the Opera's benefit, and REPO MEN will be good riddance to bad rubbish.

by bileranter
Thanks! Nice to get the benefit of the doubt!
I didn't say Repo was bad- there were some good bits in it and some nice performances and song very catchy songs. As someone else said here, wasn;t quite my cup of tea. I apologise- I was trying to be funny at the expense of others and that's too easy to do sometimes. Forgive me.
I read the script for Repossession Mambo over a year before filming started and a long time before Repo was greenlit. I don't know the history. I don't think they should have changed the name to be honest. Doesn't do it any favors. Since you seem to know a lot about it, what came first, the book or the stage show. Still, it's ironic that both films were made about 2 steets away from each other at exactly the same time.
I'll see this one though like I did the singalong one and make my own mind up and take each on it's own merits. I sense a bit of Repo fanaticism surrounding this one so will take note for the future. -
I know that's what you really want. Yes motor sports are much more manly, a bunch of dudes riding around in the dirt with their asses in the air.Very macho!
-
Didnt take long for you to show your true colors. If someone is not in your socieconomic sphere or fits in to your neat little definition of what's 'well adjusted' they are invevitably white trash or biggots or nazi's or whatever derogatory term you like. You see, we are not so different you and i, except of course for the fact that i know when im being a biggot.
And tensticks, all your talk about girls this and girls that is a dead fucking giveaway. Closet faggots always talk about the amount of tail they pull trough their homo friends and what not. Also all that talk about John Wayne and 'tough guys' are also signs of gayness because to a straight man, those athletes and actors doesnt represent some unatainable tough guy ideal we can never achive, they are just blokes.
-
Studies have shown that people who spell their screen names with a "z" in place of an "s", are 74% more likely to engage in homosexual activity than the average person. This number goes up dramatically when coupled with posts containing homophobic remarks and comments about motor sports. We're talking up into the 98.9% range.
-
... the sketch in 'MoL' is about guys coming to collect from organ donors. I was trying to make a point about "what exactly constitutes plagerism?" and conscionable lawsuits, and failed miserably. Whatever the case, I'll warrant that "Repo Man" (singular) is the best film getting mention in this thread. No offense.
-
homophobic remarks and motorsports indicative of gayness? Jesus fuck dude what part in the world do you live in?
-
... a controlled study of 64 heterosexual men (half claimed to be homophobic by experience and self-reported orientation) at the University of Georgia found that men who were found to be homophobic (as measured by the Index of Homophobia) were considerably more likely to experience more erectile responses when exposed to homoerotic images than non-homophobic men.
Adams HE, Wright LW, Lohr BA (August 1996). "Is homophobia associated with homosexual arousal?". J Abnorm Psychol 105 (3): 440–5. doi:10.1037/0021-843X.105.3.440. PMID 8772014. h t t p : / /content.apa.org/journals/abn/105/3/440. Summarized in an American Psychological Association press release, August 1996: "New Study Links Homophobia with Homosexual Arousal". -
I'm an open homosexual. Well, you still have to buy me dinner, so maybe not that open. I mean, some dudes these days. I'm surprised they don't have a ticket dispenser coming out their tailbone. A little self respect, boys. Of course, they'd probably want to stop the meth first, so there's something left to respect. And if anyone is really concerned about it, the gayest sport is MMA.

Man I have never ever posted on here before. I read a lot cause everyone makes me laugh, but never post. Gotta say good find on that Georgia study. I need to track it down but someone else just did a similar study and had the same results except if I'm correct the percentage was even higher. I have a friend a really really close friend who says the same stupid homophobic stuff and everyone just knows he's gay. Maybe one day he will stop hating himself and realize it haha.

You're actually right. In my case, I suppose I'm "fanatical" (well, personally I'd say "passionate") about this particular facet of REPO because I know, inside and firsthand, a lot about this subject and its history, and I have a strong sense of righteous justice. For lack of a better term. But there are far, far, FAR bigger REPO fanatics than I am...

Well, there is a heated debate among young-earth proponents, and some of them are actually quite radical in believing the earth might actually be as much as 12,000 years old. I think 6.5 thousand is as far as most of them go, however. I quote the Very Rev. William Hicks: "'You know, the world's twelve-thousand years old, and dinosaurs existed in that time, you'd think it would've been mentioned in the fucking bible at some point. "And o, Jesus and the disciples walked to Nazareth, but the trail was blocked by a giant brontosaurus with a splinter in his paw. And o, the disciples did run a-shrieking 'What a big fucking lizard, Lord.' But Jesus was unafraid, and he took the splinter from the brontosaurus' paw, and the big lizard became his friend. And Jesus sent him to Scotland where he lived in a Loch for oh so many years, inviting thousands of American tourists to bring their fat fucking families and their fat dollar bills. And O Scotland did praise the Lord. Thank you, Lord'."
-
You're quoting Hicks too! And technically you did it before me, even though I didn't see it till after my post. (Which of us should sue the other?) I can't even take you seriously enough now to hate you. In fact I might even be starting to LIKE you. Just not in a gay way. Not that there's anything wrong with that, you know. You CAN come out. Glad I'm not the only one. They should *ALL* be 'teasers' - whether 1 minute or 2.5. I thought Knight and Day trailer was that much better/anticipation-baiting just for resisting the urge so powerfully (comparatively obviously) to the modern trend.
Though I guess if I'm playing devil's advocate (and to myself), we also risk getting 'tricked' into seeing crap...definitely happened a couple times in mid-90s...but interwebs would seem to counter that for the semi-informed... -

It doesn't matter if you care about Repo the Genetic Opera or not. This is IP theft straight up. If I made a movie about a Privateer named Jon Blackbird, who liked to drink brandy and had a magic compass that pointed at hidden treasure it would be the same thing. I could say well Privateers work under consent of the crown, he drinks a different drink and his compass only points at treasure not specifically the thing you want most. Its different enough. I don't say to go after Forest Whitaker, Jude Law, or Liev Schrieber all actors with whom I hold a deep respect. The likelihood they knew what was going on here is minimal, but at the end of the day you don't have to like Repo Opera to have a problem with this. Repo the Genetic Opera was a stage play over a decade ago, and the creators of Repo Men (which was titled Repossession Mambo until recently) had seen the musical and attempted to move the property on their behalf but when the Opera creators refused to give up creative control they sold the idea to Universal. They stole it you can say it looks badass or you're happy they stole it... but they did. It will be a bigger financial success than Genetic Opera by virtue of having the stars it has and it will definitely have a bigger release than one theatre at a time and 12 max at its peak.
-
if this has been in the can for 3 years, and your "friends" have a real case, why haven't they filed to halt the film's production?could it be so that if it's a hit, they'll get a big payday? pretty common strategy in Hollywood. there's greed enough to go around, it just comes in different packages.
-
Good to see Jude Law play the bad ass for once!
-
The singing was getting on my nerves.
-
At least they are remaking and riping off a shitty movie that had singing and Paris Hilton in it! Jude Law and Forrest Whitiker, blood and boobies = must see!
-
Sorry--
Not only does the trailer show THE WHOLE FUCKING MOVIE--but it looks like a bad mix of Repo: The Genetic Opera, Logan's Run and EQUILIBRIUM, which violence aside was a half-baked piece of shit in and of itself.
And if Forrest Wittaker and Jude Law are best friends who grew up together, why don't they have the same accent? -
Despite it being a ripoff of Repo: The Genetic Opera, probably... I'll give this one a go. Why? Because someone took the very good idea behind Repo, and made something compelling out of it. Not a 'hipper-than-thou', poorly-cut musical with no catchy music. Despite the legal claims, fuck the Opera. And the Shadowcats.
-
coulda thought of a better plot point then 'he gets one put in him' but still, pretty fucking sweet
-
As much as I loved Repo: TGO, and hope those guys' creation continues to grow and gain a cult pastiche over the years, you can't expect them to be able to sue or gain any monetary profit off of this.
Reason why? You can't copyright a plot or synopsis. If the entire body of the work resembled the finished product closely enough, you could strike out with a plagiarism suit, but since this one isn't a musical, that probably won't happen.
you can't sue someone for having a similar synopsis, which is how Hollywood is able to keep releasing similar, redundant crap all the time without issue. Armageddon couldn't sue Deep Impact, Romero can't sue every zombie movie to come out since his, Dances with Wolves can't sue Avatar, Jurassic Park can't sue Carnosaur.
I remember ages ago, Phillip K. Dick was talking in interviews about suing Cameron over Terminator for stealing his notion of Replicants. This idea was summarily dismissed by courts and legal council. You can't fight 'similar' only 'exact'. -
Jude Law became the Repoman who was now being Repomanned by the very same people he once Repoed with!
I knwo I shouldnt' have expected much more, but it just really seemed like it was going to be a bit more interesting than that. I guess I'm still into it, but now it's more like only around 80% -
and I'll skip Repo: The Wannabe Whedon Opera, based on its trailer.
-
Ah, but Harlan Ellison WON a lawsuit against Cameron and is now acknowledged in the credits of the original Terminator. It CAN be done. But I've said all I can say.
-
Now I don't have to watch it..
-
FLOCKA!!!
-
your right Supermans, but then again who cares. It looks pretty fuckin' sweet anyway, I'm in. Oh by the way didn't know if any of the AICN guys were planning on putting up a post but Brittany Murphy died 77-09 RIP
-
Universal passed on the pitch and stole the concept for this movie.
-
If 'Repo Men' is a rip-off of 'Repo!', then 'Repo!' must therefore be a rip-off of much-earlier 'Judge Dredd' comic strips and cyberpunk novels that featured organ-repossession in a dystopian future setting. The 'Repo!' writers didn't invent the concept, not by a long way, they were beaten to it by decades.
-
that what Harlan Ellison wants, Harlan Ellison gets. The man has waged a lawsuit against practically every other person on this planet and hardly ever lost. I think he must have some dirt on a bunch of DA's or something.
In other news, I just saw Repo Man again the other day, and it remains as awesome as ever. Bud is like the best character from the '80s. "Night, day- doesn't mean shit." -
" They ripped off our cult emo classic" First off, the premise is old and has popped up in sci fi novels and comics for a long time now. Second off,Repo the Gentic Opera was not that great. You have to admit, the people that liked that movie liked it before they ever laid eyes on it because it was goth and had singing and it was a fucking group thing. I don't begrudge anyone there opion of what is cool, but just because you and your friends like it doesn't mean it's a classic.Anybody remember how many shitty Pulp Fiction or Matrix rip offs that came right after the success of those movies? It's life people, you don't have to cry about it.
-
Stephen F'ing Hawking just thanked the socialized medicine he's received in a recent speech for helping him to survive, so unless you're being ironic I don't know what the hell your point was.
-
They had a memorial post up for Murphy a few days ago when it happened. You're late to the party. Never saw anything for Roy Disney though, which still seems odd to me.
-
Fuck the debate about the opera...this looks hilariously nasty and mean spirited. I'll be there opening fucking day.
-
Gimmie a cranky old Emilio playing the veteran repo man old fart trying to sell his hip-hop-a-doodle rookie on the merits of old school punk rock and I will be happy.
-
And I like the fact that none of the repo men are little kids.
-
Harlan is not someone to fuck with. I'm an unashamed and unabashed admirer of the man. But I agree with you and fiester about Emilio and the 1984 film; as I've already indicated, THAT is an all-time classic.

Speaking of MoMa (someone mentioned it)...I'm going there today.
by chakraborty
Tim Burton has an exhibit of his art in the NY MoMa....should be pretty cool.

And why isn't everyone singing? And where's all the goth stuff? I'm not really confused, I'm just point out... you know. Never mind.

Isn't it weird what today is all called "emo" & goth"?
by redegiraahgnal
It won't take too long until some people even refer to Tarantino as emo-filmmaker.

Did you see The Princess & The Frog? Boy, was that emo!
by redegiraahgnal
And Avatar was such a goth movie!

Except it was a horrifically bad rock-opera. Yes, Repo Men is a shameless conceptual ripoff, but frankly, "Repo: The Genetic Opera" was fucking TERRIBLE - a disjointed, nonsensical, amateur, shallow piece of shit. This, on the other hand, looks fun in a "Crank" sort of way. I'll see it.

sorry, i have no idea why i wrote that or what it meant. New Years Resolution #1 - No drunken talkbacking. Happy Festives!

You can search for my AICN review of the test screening, it was called The Repossession Mambo and NO it is NOT a Repo Genetic Opera rip off. They were developed at the same time, Opera just happened to come out much earlier. About 1/3 of this movie is awesome. The 2nd act is horribly boring with a forced romance and complete shift in tone. The 1st act is great and one of the finales is amazing - the hallway scene which you see a bit of in the trailer is like a bloody American version of the Oldboy hallyway fight. I agree this trailer gives way too much away. The big problem was I hated the final ending. It's a huge cliched plot device and if they had just ended it 10 minutes earlier it would have gone down as fucking daring and great. I hope they've changed it but I doubt it.
-
C'mon, I can buy a lot of SciFi stuff but one that is 'slightly in the future' but where its okay to wholesale kill people who don't pay bills? Right, the US government would be like, totally, kill those taxpayers and leave a blody mess, they didn't pay so we don't care. Just to far fetched.

2010 is looking so damned good for entertainment. Really excited.

Philip K Dick wanted to sue Cameron over Terminator? That's pretty amazing, considering he died two years before Terminator came out. I mean, I know he was prescient, but wow... In all seriousness, though, Terminator more resembles Second Variety, which was made into the so-so Screamers.
-
Repo Men wins for me because it has 100% less Paris Hilton. That is all.
-
oh wait, yeah i did. fuck this pile of rip-off bullshit.

The concept is so utterly preposterous I can't suspend the ol' disbelief.
-
But without the music?
I didn't really like Repo, but I think I'll avoid this just because it's soul-crushingly unoriginal. -
Better than the lot. By the way, I think we should confiscate all copies of "Repo The Genetic Opera" and replace them with copies of "Phantom of the Paradise". A little social experiment. And to the above poster who was going on about Nascar as if it were the most "normal" thing in the world, someone should introduce that fucker to J.G. Ballard. Lastly, it is rather to funny to see "Repo Men' clearly rehashing "Logan's Run" character dynamics. Forest Whitaker as Richard Jordan + Jude Law as Michael York = wackiness!
-
Cameron should have shoved that camera up that stalker's ass.
-
Just Repo was cheap and cheerful and out in no time and this one took a bit longer. I still think this one will be good- the script was- and like I said, that was WAY before the Repo movie was announced. Noone ever told me- which came first the Repossession Mambo book or the stage show of Repo? Let's face it, it's not like a hugely hard thing to think the two might have come about at the same time independantly. Repo fans are mental for it though aren't they?

Universal staffers hit message boards to combat Repo! fans...
by jacklucas
Fact.
-
Fact.
-
Sgt: Phantom of the Paradise is fucking awesome. Bile: Repo the stage play was developed circa 1999 and performed on stage in LA in 2001. The Repo-Mambo people were part of the regular audience and worked in the same building where Repo was edited. Trust me. Regardless of who may have previously come up with the concepts of organ repossession for a comic book or something back in the day, these two projects are intimately intertwined, but the Mambo would not have existed without the Opera. And yes, REPO fans are nuts. I say that as one of them.
-
Fact.
-
Repo: The Genetic Opera is not everyone's cup of tea. Not everyone likes it or is going to like it. Some won't even give it a chance because of some of the castmembers. That's fine. I get that. But that's all still beside the point. Ripoff is the name of the game in Hollywood, I get that too--but in this case it's so blatant, and so demonstrable, that anyone with a conscience or a shred of integrity should stand up and say "Enough!" I mean, they didn't do it when Deep Space Nine ripped off Babylon 5, they didn't do it when Denis Leary stole Bill Hicks' entire act (except the actual humour)...but dammit, you can do it now! Do NOT give your money to this thing!
-
Then I cannot watch it. If they think she is worthy of being put in theire project, then they have nothing worth saying anymore. Bring on Jude and REPO MEN
-
You just fell for the oldest trick in the book! Whats with you man?
-
I can make a gay joke about almost anything. the only 100% hetero thing is a pussy. thats why i live above a tittie bar and use the strippers thigh sweat as cologne. Fuck! I said I wear cologne. Thats gay.
-
...remaking the original Repo Men (which was fucking awesome...)
Repo: The Genetic Opera was fine for what it was but Alex Cox is one of the old school punk directors and Repo Men, Sid & Nancy, Straight to Hell and Walker are all fantastic! Can't wait to see this update of his classic! -
one of my favorite TB names. Well done.

Merry Christmas to all them crazy Repo genetic opera mining folk
by bileranter
Yez are making me smile with all yer intimate knowledge talk and crazy theories! Who cares - it's Christmas and you can mime to It's a Wonderful life for a day instead....can we start a thread about all those movies and tv shows that ripped THAT film off now?
-
That's blatant. I mean, I expected them to take Repo's concept and go somewhere different with it, but that's even worse than I thought. Fuck this movie.
-
Feelin' seven up, I'm feelin' seven up...
-
And it is still incredibly similar to "Repo: The Genetic Opera," which came out first, even this was in development beforehand. It looks like a classed up version of "Crank 2." Also, goth > emo > hipster.
-
I just dont buy into the premise first of all, second its filmed in the UK so its definitely gonna be shit. F-
-
in Jude Law's ribcage! Seriously, this is a rental at best. The budget must have been tight... tight. A sci-fi movie filled with modern day vehicles... that was a brilliant piece of design work... everything modern.. except the organs... and some of the security systems.
-
Man, did that song go oh so well in that trailer. Always good to see a trailer which uses decent music that contributes to the feel of the movie rather than MTV's greatest hits....
Movie looks bloody, and I like it!! -
That's got to be a joke. I can't belive that some one would stand up during a two hour or so film and mime out the fucking thing. I'm sorry but that's an image I just can't shake. On a final note, In a world where Armageddon and Deep Impact,Tombstone and Wyatt Earp all exist together, why the fuck would some one be bothered about this movie? Does this movie's existence negate The Genetic Opera's?
-
An obscure one, but it existed. And that puts to rest any question as to which is a rip off of which.
And one is clearly a rip off of the other. The fact that they were "developed at the exact same time" just makes it more likely.
Also, Asteroids hitting Earth is an old stock sci fi plot, Wyatt Earp was a real person, but "in the future artificial organs are bought on credit and repossessed" is too insanely specific for it to be more than shallow theft.
-
(Just my opinion). I liked the idea but hated the awful music and cheesy acting.
This movie is more my speed.
-
Without going into the intelligent and witty (and popular, on this TB) attack of "durr, you're a fag if you like that movie," I still say R:TGO sucked ass. First off, it was a poorly executed "hip" musical with a dismal cast. Second, it was created by the hack douchebags who are responsible for the Saw franchise and, in turn, the death of horror movies that try to scare you. Third, and most importantly, it starred Paris Hilton. PARIS MOTHERFUCKING HILTON. And anyone who actually spends money to support anything she does, be it shitty movies or shitty perfume, should be knighted as a Sir Douchebag of the Dildotic Empire, as you have helped to keep that no-talent syphillized skank relevant for just a little longer. I could honestly care less if Repo Men does business or not, but who gives a shit if it lifted its story from a movie that the public at large never saw and couldn't give two shits about. Avatar lifted its story from Dances With Costner, which a lot of people saw, and it's still raking in money hand over fist and was a damn fine experience. Sometimes I honestly believe this site is infested with trolls who are just itching to complain about something, no matter how mundane.
-
by most of your philosophy
-
Repo wasn't bad, there were at least two or three serviceable songs and the look of it was phenomenal, as was the concept (it was also the only Paris Hilton film I've ever seen and to her credit, I kept forgetting it was her in the role) and though this one looks awesome, it loses points for lack of originality...It just looks like they took the Genetic Opera idea, hammered out the bad parts, threw some money in the right places, and made a better movie...Great, but not exactly a groundbreaking new idea
-
This will almost certainly flop.

Kaiser...only 1 dude from the Saw films was even involved...
by poisonouskid
and he didn't write any of it. Plus Paris Hilton was in the movie for an entire 5 or 6 minutes. I bet you you haven't even seen the movie, but simply have a stick up your ass about shit you think you've heard. Repo wasn't amazing, but it was definitely worth the watch.
-
I HAVE seen the movie and it sucked. Hard. As for the one guy from Saw, that's all it takes. That franchise has, along with the Hostel films and Bay's Platinum Dunes, ruined the genre of horror, taking all the scare from it. The same guy also did Dead Silence, which was embarrassingly lame. As for Paris Hilton, whether she's in a film for one minute or one hour, supporting the film gives her a residual paycheck and strengthens her acting confidence, and that is just plain wrong. But yes, I have seen R:TGO, was drug to it by the girl I was dating at the time, and was bored out of my mind. Sorry you liked it, but there's no stick up my ass or any other orafice, it just fucking sucked big floppy donkey dong. Deal with it.
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw Repo and sees how blatantly they are ripping a lesser known film off. Repo was an awesome film. It looks like all they have done here is change the body parts to bionic and removed the music and also the heart of the film.
-
...I'd rather see this than Shitlock Holmes.
-
There's an awesome Tim Burton exhibit going on there right now.
-
looks kick-ass jude laws becomeing quiet the genre star and anything with forrest whittiker rules
