May have lead to the uneven feel to this season. Let's hope the second half has much more steam.

Was in my opinion the best episode of the Venture Brothers that season....the Scooby Doo parody and Venturestein? Pure genius!
Dec. 13, 2009, 12:53 p.m. CST
...and so was the pre-credits scene, but the Scooby Doo jokes felt like something out of Robot Chicken and the subplot about Brock feeling guilty was boring.

I loved viva los muertos, all of it. Also, shame, I'll probably miss this tonight because time warner cant get a technician to be prompt, ive been without cable or internet since wednesday and that is NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR A GEEK TO BE.
Dec. 13, 2009, 1:40 p.m. CST
Yeah, Edlund wrote it. And I hate to say it, because I really like this man's work, but I'm happy that he has nothing to do with the show anymore. His episodes were always pretty weak. Don't know what went wrong there.

yeah that is one of the weaker episodes from that season ... and how anone could like that better than Escape the house of mummies part2, 20 years to midnight, powerless in teh face of death, hate floats, and showdown at cremation creek ... And as long as we're talking about writers ... oddly, no one was credited with writing last weeks episode ... check the credits ...

rarely do you see changes in character templates like they've done with hank and dean and 21. with the fanbase they're building, Doc and Jackson have pretty much earned carte blanche to take this show wherever they want, and they're getting fucking crazy. my only complaint is that on some of their commentaries it's hard to hear them.
Dec. 13, 2009, 3:34 p.m. CST
Y2K started in 2001 for you, didn't it? "But. . . but there was no year zero!" You're right. The 1980s ended in 1990, as well. Retard.

Will she be a totally different character when we next see her? And when will that be? Is that one kiss she gave Dean the furthest they will go? :(

Yes, the 1980's ended in 1990, yes, the new century started in 2001, and yes, this will NOT be the last Venture bros of the decade. This is the way the Gregorian Calender works. Why do you think the New Millennium starts with the 21st Century?

It was a one-off by Ben Edlund, creator of the Tick, and who has a lifetime pass on anything he wants to do. Reimagining the Mystery Gang as all serial killers/wackjobs from the 70s was great, and the SOn of Sam angle with Groovy ("Guy's pissing on your lawn, man") was hilarious.

that Al Queda invented the number zero? Well, actually, others had a concept of a nothing number, but they were the first to envision it's all important function as a place holder. That's why they were able to successfully attack america. Also they wrote Viva Los Muertos which is an AWESOME episode. I just don't understand the hate there. It's one of the best.

Then the end of year 10 is the end of the 1st decade. Likewise, the end of year 2000 was the end of the millennium and the end of 2010 is the end of the decade. Unless God gave a mulligan and made the first decade 9 years, I don't know. I never read the bible.

Referring to a group of 10 years as the 80's is slang so it doesn't even matter what 10 years that referrs to. it could refer to every 3rd leap year I wore a purple thong, slang only means what you mean by it, so the idiot bitching about social norms is actually right. Weak writing, sloppy payoffs, and really mediocre art from a show that otherwise delivers. I've been a fan of VB since the pilot first aired, and this season has felt off to me but getting back on its legs, until now. Still, mediocre VB is better than no VB. <p>For the dipshits who said zero isn't a number, that's a really dumb fucking argument considering 2010 isn't the year zero, it's the year two thousand ten, fucktards. The calendar started at 1 A.D., not 0 A.D., if you don't like it, take it up with Pope Gregory the 13th since he came up with it. People like the zero for the roundness of the date system, but that just ain't how it works from a real perspective, if that's not good enough, try shoving it up your ass like all the other common sheep who like the pretty zeroes in their datebooks.
Dec. 14, 2009, 7:13 a.m. CST
Here goes. 00 may, in fact, be a "meaningless" placeholder number. But slap a "20" in front of it and you've got 2000, a real and meaningful number indeed. If we stop counting zero-ending years, we're in real trouble...
Dec. 14, 2009, 7:30 a.m. CST
2001 - 2010 are all part of the same decade. No amount of flames or trolling will change that.<p>For those of you who don't understand, you count years the same way you count anything else. Take money for example. How many pennies are in a $20 bill? 2000 or 1999? Obviously you need 2000 to make $20. Let's work our way to the next $20 starting with penny 2001. Is it part of the first $20? No? Add nine more pennies. Do you have 2009 total or 2010?
Dec. 14, 2009, 7:38 a.m. CST
... there were patches in that show of absolutely horrific animation. I don't know whether the stuff came back from Korea awful and there was no time for re-shoots, but it was glaring. And, having Brock back aside, some of that largely weak script seems to have also been written by overseas writers.
Dec. 14, 2009, 7:40 a.m. CST
So if you were born in 1980 that means you're a child of the '70s? Of course it doesn't, unless you're so socially-awkward that you don't realize most people don't give a fuck about the Gregorain calendar and end the decade with December 31st, ---9. Right or wrong, this is what society as a whole has determined.
Dec. 14, 2009, 7:43 a.m. CST
if you imagine those arguing about it are doing it in the voices of 21 and 24. <P> Someone posted the whole VB soundtrack on You tube here: <P> http://tiny.cc/Rqhj1 <P> Fumblestealth is my personal favorite.
Dec. 14, 2009, 8:02 a.m. CST
It was a more laid back finale if this is the real Finale for this season then the last ones. 21 and 24 continue to be gold while Brock leaving next door all this time is hysterical. Monarch telling Dr.Mrs. Monarch to bend over the console was awesome. I do think Hatred's days are numbered now which is ok.
Dec. 14, 2009, 9:40 a.m. CST
Hopefully now that Brock is back in the picture, Sgt Hatred will leave and get his own spinoff. Because nothing is funnier than child molestation!(Yes, that is sarcasm you are detecting, good job, you)
Dec. 14, 2009, 9:59 a.m. CST
2000 was still part of the second millennium... the TWENTIETH century. You round up to that number, from 1901 to 2000. 2010 is NOT part of the Oughts, and any dumbass should be able to understand this. 2000-09 are the same decade. As has been mentioned above, you don't refer to 1980 as part of the '70s. Because it isn't. No amount of flaming circular logic will make 1980 part of the '70s. And btw, no, decade does NOT refer to any 10-year period. It's specifically that cluster of 10 years. If you were born in 1999, you've lived through two decades now, not one: one year of the 90s, and nine years of the Oughts.

"Don't hit me in the stomach though, I really have to pee." The newly gendered Hunter Gathers. Brock casually eating cereal. And a lot more. There was a LOT to like about this episode, and it split the season at a perfect point. Too bad we gotta wait another 6 months to find out what follows.
Dec. 14, 2009, 10:53 a.m. CST
Let me nitpick. If you were born in 1999 you lived IN two decades, not through. I totally agree with you otherwise. Can't believe people are arguing the point.

24 spilling 21's secrets about his 'hidden' computer sex files on Mrs. Monarch was awesome. 21 taking on Brock was fantastic..."when I got close I thought you crapped your pants"...I was crying! Dr. Venture telling the boys they are clones!! 21 kicking ass in Monstroso's office! TWICE! As a JEDI, too? Great shit, man. Trying to land the flying Monarch Mobile? Priceless. Killing Dr. Venture with paper work? OMG...genius. <p> Bad animation or not...REALLY looking forward to seeing what happens when the storyline resumes...uh...next...decade.
Dec. 14, 2009, 2:30 p.m. CST
Wow. So much to like about the episode. It was so good having Brock and 24 back. Okay, why did Kubrick call it 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Dec. 14, 2009, 3:15 p.m. CST
"The first title imagined by Kubrick and Clarke was Journey Beyond the Stars, but Kubrick modified it later. Having the intention to give the film more pomp and grandeur, he used Homer's The Odyssey as inspiration to name the film." <p>Next question?</p>
Dec. 14, 2009, 3:30 p.m. CST
That explains the Odyssey part! The 2001 part was chosen because it was the first year of the next century!

Dec. 15, 2009, 1:17 a.m. CST
This episode was freaking awesome. also on a side note can you people count? 2010 does indeed mark the end of the decade. 10 years. starting at 2000. +10. 2010. the fact that their is debate over this is the reason this will prolly be my last comment.
Dec. 15, 2009, 1:27 a.m. CST

Dec. 15, 2009, 11:33 a.m. CST
There is no year 0 A.D. So, either the first decade (a word meaning 10 years) was 9 years long (1 A.D. - 9 A.D.)....or, the original series of decades, begin in years ending in 1 and finish in years ending in 0 (1 A.D. - 10 A.D.). Although, it does not really matter. Decades are any 10 year period (ex. 1984-1993). Technically, every New Year ends one decade and begins a new one. Except for the first nine New Years (which all began new decades but did not end any). I like the Venture Bros. a lot.
Dec. 15, 2009, 12:19 p.m. CST
There was a year -1, and a couple billion more before that. If you seriously don't count the 0, count that. <p> We group decades by the third digit. The 70's are the years with a 7 in front of them. The 80's with an 8. <p> Unless you people think we just ended 1999 and went straight to 2001? there was a year 2000 in there, and that's part of the sequence. <p> Also, dethwolf... 2000 +10 only works if you aren't counting the year 2000 itself. Your making a decade with 11 years there.
0 may not be a number unto itself, but if you put a 2 in front of it, is suddenly has weight. It's no longer nonexistant, but has weight, as a 20. And if you put a 1 after that, its suddenly 201. Therefore, adding another zero, and getting "2010"... COUNTS!
Though really its all just an excuse to have a party anyway. Semantics let us celebrate new millenium parties twice.
Dec. 15, 2009, 12:31 p.m. CST
How do you know there was no 0 A.D.? Unless you're Sarah Palin, you should know there were many years before 1 A.D. But go ahead and group the debut of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and the death of John Lennon as significant events of the '70s if you want, Calendar Nazis. The rest of us will just keep on laughing at your inability to grasp basic societal norms.

glenn_the_frog...I cannot tell if you thoroughly understood what I was (clumsily?) saying...a decade is any ten year increment you specify. So, if you say the "decade of th 1970s" you are talking about the 10 years beginning with 197-. So, the end of the 2000-aughts' decade is this year. But, I think it is highly debatable whether it is the end of the 200th sequential decade A.D. Because, the first proper decade (dfn. 10 year increment) was 1-10 A.D. Meaning the end of the 200th sequential decade A.D. would be next year. All that said, it is a lot more fun to celebrate the end of the '70s, '80s, 90's...etc. decades, than the ends of the 170, 180, 190...etc. sequential decades A.D. Can't wait for the next round of Venture eps!
Dec. 15, 2009, 10:23 p.m. CST
Sheila's probably finding 21 rather attractive at this point-- you know she's hot for supervillians... She loves Monarch because "He's the REAL THING"... and 21 is becoming pretty bad-ass in the SV department-- not suggesting she's gonna DO him, but at least she appreciates and respects his competence (and maybe a little flirting) I suppose a Lancelot/Guenevere storyline isn't IMPOSSIBLE <p><p> Also, arguments about the meaning of the start of the Decade are a secret attempt by the forces of totalitarianism to gain world domination. <p><p> The plot works this way, after a few arguments about when a decade or century or millennium begins, nearly everyone will gladly accept total loss of their personal freedom, because only a totalitarian government has the sheer will to take anyone who starts an argument about this and <p><p>BEAT THEM TO DEATH WITH TIRE IRONS SCREAMING DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE <p><p> which is all any reasonable person can want from life after reading this drivel.
Dec. 16, 2009, 12:19 a.m. CST
"which is all any reasonable person can want from life after reading this drivel." ....you say argument, another could say discussion. Also, dissecting middle-brow entertainment is not exactly the noblest expression of personal freedom. Although, this being a website dedicated to such types of entertainment, does give it a slight edge. Anyway, my the only point I was making is that technically both uses are right...they are just talking about different decades.

I've seen a half a dozen of these Gregorian calendar debates, and I've even posted in a couple. You're the first person I've seen take the time to lay the facts out logically in a paragraph or two; further proof that folks online are more interested in the back-and-forth than they are in proclaiming the facts and ending the discourse. Your post should've come a week or two ago, but cheers for typing it.

At the end of the day I'm still fat and poor, so who gives a flying fuck when the decade ends? I found it odd that Hank and Dean were in the episode all of about 7 seconds. Which is fine by me, since I love me some Master Billy Quizboy, White, Gathers, Shoreleave, and the Triad...last two episodes made me happy.

Can someone color code the dip-shit decade bullshit so I can skip to the next VENTURE comment faster? Regarding the animation. I can't really complain, cause the show is f'in' awesome. But when I catch older episodes I enjoy a much more retro look to the drawing and colors. Almost like it actually could have aired at the same time as Johnny Quest. Now I feel like it looks a tad bit more modern. But like I said, I can't really complain. This douche-bag decade debate on the other hand . . .
