MEN IN BLACK 3 Casting Talk Begins!!
Merrick here...
Sounds like Josh Brolin may well end up in the new MEN IN BLACK film, which is expected top return Will Smith and possibly/probably Barry Sonnenfeld.
The actor is being considered for a role that would have him donning the black suit and shades for the third installment of the sci-fi comedy franchise. His exact part is a matter of discussion, but in recent days there's been chatter in Hollywood development circles of a few possibilities: He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K passing the baton to Brolin's character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.
...reports the LA Times HERE.
Aggravatingly non-specific, I know.
The new MIB is being scripted by Etan Cohen (TROPIC THUNDER) and may or may not churn into production next year depending on a variety of factors (I'd assume Smith's currently in development HANCOCK sequel might somehow impact this picture's scheduling?)
Earlier this year it was announced scipter Cohen would be working on a bigscreen adaptation of the board game CANDYLAND. Wonder how that's going...

Might, could be, possibly, or something else entirely. Good report.
-
Seriously.
-
And this is unessacary! Oh Hollywood!
-
TOMMY LEE IN SHORTS AGAIN? NOT SO MUCH.
-
or this series is in the toilet, more so. Tommy Lee Jones is as essential to the series as Will Smith. And this is coming from a black guy. Come on now, MIB 2 was pretty much terrible. MIB 3 needs to be freakin outstanding. Still love the first one though!
-
Since the last one was so bad, he thinks he should make it up to us by asking us to plunk down another $12 to see him wear a black suit again.
No fucking sale, Willie. -
They outlived their welcome after Men in Black 2.
-
another Movie Product (TM) for a soccer mom to pick up in her local grocery store check out line. fuck off with this.
-
We so do not need this.
-
..is a complete bitch to work with.
-
the first 2 weren't all that
-
where did she go, anyway? Last I've heard from her was the fun I had reading about her talking shit about Kevin Smith and DOGMA (or was it Kevin Smith talking shit about her and DOGMA?). Good times.
-
you do realize that she is now 51....
-
this news broke last week, he plays agent K's son that shows up...rumour is he's half alien and tommy lee jones was unaware of him

The Hancock sequel is on hold, so Smith might be free, to be honest, I'd rather TLJ was in it than Smith.
The idea of Brolin playing a younger K is a good idea, but it is really too early to even start contemplating characters and cast for this. -
The last thing I heard about her was that her federal agent boyfriend was fired because he was taking looks at sensitive files that had to do with Anthony Pellicano. She was writing a screenplay about the guy and I guess he wanted to help out.
-
That would make sense, both image wise and in the arc of the series from that scene in the first one where K lost his long lost love or whatever. I'd buy that story.
-
...if you don't have anything nice to say...
-
It would be great if Josh and Will said "Aww Hail Naw" in unison.
-
I find both MIB films so awkwardly contradicting...

I don't care how old or how difficult she is to work with...
by harrycalder
...I WANT MORE LINDA! "The Last Seduction" changed me forever, and I really loved her in MiB 1. So those are my terms: Linda or fuck off.
-
But I hope if they make this Brolin doesn't just end up playing a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' performance. And if he's half-alien I'm assuming he'll have some otherworldly abilities.
-
Too little, too late. The first one was funny only because Will Smith hadn't yet developed the egotistical god mentality he has about himself these days.
-
I mean, he's pretty dark and disturbed in everything he's done. Still has to better than the Patrick Warburton character from MIB II, I guess...

Of course, Tommy Lee Jones isn't exactly Gene Wilder
by fa_tass_dinomolester
Brolin probably can handle the straight-man role, although K had his own brand of dry, grouchy wit.
-
Peter Berg said before they do Hancock 2 he was going to do either Risk or Battleship with Will Smith.
-
Lewis Black and Owen Wilson as the bad guys! Lewis would play himself except as a lobster/clam-like alien, while Owen would play an intergalactic cowboy type. With Sienna Guillory as an MIB agent from the UK Office, and bring back Bob and Z'pring'gla'boink or whatever it was! And bring the MIB agents into outer-space in this one!!

They're inside a locker which is inside a marble?
by fa_tass_dinomolester
Like everything else about it, the ending of MIBII was kind-of crappy. It's the Ghostbusters 2 of the 2000's.
-
Only do this if it is a straight-up NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN remake set in this world, with Brolin and Jones basically reprising their roles--Brolin finds space-money in an astro-desert--and have some alien be Chigurh. Will Smith can skip this one.
-
Kill himself in the end? 'Cause that would definitely be worth the price of admission!
-
LMAO!
-
In an interview on rt he said that he, will and even Michael Mann are too busy right now, they want to do it but there's no time with all their other crap.
-
Just like he stole the Rock's smackdown and candyazz lines in MIIB?
-
Someone is working on a film version of Candy Land????????? Board games becoming movies.... isn't that one of the signs that the apocalypse is on the way??? *cringe*
-
He was on Conan last night and I thought he'd be snobby, but he wasn't (at least didn't appear to be), he was actually joking a lot, and it made me like him. He did some good impressions of John Malkovich, and in a way that wasn't being in azzhole. I always looked @ him as streissand's stepson, now I feel like watching No Country for Old Men, which I pretty much slept through until the end, and didn't want to rewatch because of bardem's bones sticking out of his flesh. Anyway, brolin's conan appearance makes me wanna see Jonah Hex now, Megan Fox could sure use a hit besides baybots. And he described making out with Megan while wearing the Jonah Hex makeup, and as gruesome as Hex is I'd rather see that than her making out with $h&* lepuke.
-
And he is one charming SOB. This franchise's sequel sucked the life and fun out of it, thinking that bigger and more made it better. It just seems to be an idea that may have worked best as a one shot.
-
C'mon, Brolin was in Goonies and has been acting for years. Ironic that his father portrayed Reagan for that made for TV movie, and his son portrayed GW, and did a damn fine job too.

MIIB - Besides having a terrible title - was awful. SyFy Quality
by wickedjester
I've said it before, but it had to be restated -- it's awful. Terrible effects, a runtime of about 38 minutes and a 'guest-star-of-the-week' like feel to it with Knoxville.Brolin as an even harder hardass than Tommy Lee was in the first one could work.
-
I mean, I could still see her if she turned sideways. Stick your finger down your throat some more, honey...
-
cleavage. Of course Rick Baker did the effect work.
-
Lara Flynn Boyle was as thin as the film the movie was captured on.
-
MIB III cannot be worse, so they really have nothing to lose with this one. Other than hundreds of millions of dollars...
-
Not really so much anymore, Fresh Prince. I guess parents really just don't understand (along with the moviegoing public).
-
I really dig Brolin and Smith. Brolin's recent work has been stellar. Smith, hit and miss I guess. But I still at least LIKE most of his films, even when they're flawed. Also, I actually love the first MIB. I'd even consider it a classic. The second one, ugh, not so much.
-
And it also caught me by surprise. He also tells a good story. I think it's called charisma.
-
Never watched goonies, closest I came was when that fugly creature told Meg on family guy that he would date her but he was in a relationship. Only thing I ever saw of brolin before was 21 Jump Street. And I was too busy focusing on Johnny Depp.
-
That is all.....someone had to say it
-
Sometimes, I do it on my desk at work. When my boss asks me to get down, I hit him with an RKO and then kick the shit out of his head, before running around like a paranoid psycho who had no control over what he just did for the rest of the day.
-
than 1 hour and 5 mins? perhaps Sonnenfeld can expand the universe and not focus on getting as many people into a movie before closing time... the second one was entirely too short.
-
I want to see your version! Lewis Black as a lobster/clam-like alien would be the greatest thing ever.
-
and i really hope he does alot of lyrics like "take off your shoes when you walk inside, someone just moped the floor Ha-he-he-ha" ..oh and i hope it becomes severely dated 3 months after the movie is out
-
Maybe have the MIB agents act as ambassadors to an alien planet, where they become the "fish out of water". Yea, its a tired, hackneyed concept, but what are they going to do...save the universe from an alien invasion/threat, again?
-
nooooo
-
How uninspired to look at Tommy Lee Jones recent work and then pluck his successor form that same film. Fuck you studio suit.
-
Will Smith is such a pandering cock knuckle. Stop schilling to the masses and do a good movie with all that money. and leave your kid out of it.
-
Because that's the only way you'd get away with that.
-
Probably the most chilling words every spoken if you're a film fan. A Candyland movie?!?
-
The are both essentially remakes of the first movie.
-
"We need more Will Smith movies." That way, you can turn on the television and be guaranteed to see Big Willie. Travel Channel? Showing "Made in America." Country Music Channel? Showing "I, Robot." Strangely, TV One? Showing "House Party 3." Close enough.
-
The man simply carried MIB2 and basically every other film he's in.
-
That was the problem with MIB2, shitty story that was more slavish to product placement than telling a fun MIB story. And honestly, I'm getting sick of seeing Josh Brolin all the damned time, he's overexposed.
-
Will Smith is shopping for a hit after Seven Pounds. Hancock 2, MiB3. Please don't Will. MiB2 was one of the worst sequels in the last 10 years or maybe ever.
-
That's the only reason he signed on.
-
Actually, if you think about it, Anton Chigurh was from another planet. Bring him back for MIIIB.
-
Lewis is already a clam anyway, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch! The Bicycle Sharer, sure why not? He could drive his car into a wall, get out, declare "I need help", then explode into bright blue goo!
-
Period.
-
Ocean's 13. Mae me forgive how sloppy and disjointed 12 was.
-
And the MIB cartoon series was better than the sequel, and even better than the first movie in many respects. Plus, Elle as a blonde!
-
Seriously. http://images.icanhascheezburger.com/completestore/2008/9/27/128670511471695795.jpg
-
Do you actually watch the Country Music Chanel? O_0
-
but what the fuck is this all about?? The sequel sucked horse cock anyway.
-
I love the way you corrected yourself...and yet you still managed to get it wrong! You don't understand how to use an apostrophe, yet you expect us to believe you're some industry bigshot? What a douche...
-
I needn't repeat myself, but, NO.
-
It was just the first movie all over again...
-
Or will it be a Pizza Hut this time?
Just another excuse for a bunch of bullshit product placements. -
the second one is pretty damn lame though
-
Dirty Work was a great movie.
-
It was far more imaginative and alive than the last movie. And it gave Linda Fiorentino's L character a role, a big part of why I disliked the sequel (but not the only reason). Frankly, I think Will Smith's mojo has been off ever since Scientology started going after him. How does anyone make crap like Hancock or even I Am Legend? Even Seven Pounds wasn't that great--but right now he does the tear-jerker human interest/Oscar bait dramas better than anything else. Damn, I'm starting to think he NEEDS an Independence Day sequel--although I think it'll suck just for being from Emmerich.
-
as Son of Edgar.
-
Get a new team together, don't pull an Agent Doggett and replace Jones with Brolin and just pretend like everythings fine. Parteer Brolin with someone new. Let's get some new blood in there, Smith dosen't know how to make things look good anymore.
-
Guy at the gym this week was reading a Dec '09-dated script or treatment titled Bad Boys 3.
-
Has he ever made a movie with a good story? Addams Family 1 & 2 suck, plus MIB was a waste of 2 hours of my life. Get Shorty was stupid as well. Face it, the man can't direct worth a damn.
-
PLEASE let the MIB franchise DIE DIE DIE!
-
Number 2 was a pile of trash.
Number 1 had something going with Linda Fiorentino at the end & was tossed.
Men In Black 2: Amnesia
-
...only logical choice.
