MEN IN BLACK 3 Casting Talk Begins!!

Published at:  Dec 09, 2009 10:27:36 AM CST

Merrick here...

Sounds like Josh Brolin may well end up in the new MEN IN BLACK film, which is expected top return Will Smith and possibly/probably Barry Sonnenfeld.

The actor is being considered for a role that would have him donning the black suit and shades for the third installment of the sci-fi comedy franchise. His exact part is a matter of discussion, but in recent days there's been chatter in Hollywood development circles of a few possibilities: He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K passing the baton to Brolin's character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.

...reports the LA Times HERE.

Aggravatingly non-specific, I know.

The new MIB is being scripted by Etan Cohen (TROPIC THUNDER) and may or may not churn into production next year depending on a variety of factors (I'd assume Smith's currently in development HANCOCK sequel might somehow impact this picture's scheduling?)

Earlier this year it was announced scipter Cohen would be working on a bigscreen adaptation of the board game CANDYLAND. Wonder how that's going...

or this series is in the toilet, more so. Tommy Lee Jones is as essential to the series as Will Smith. And this is coming from a black guy. Come on now, MIB 2 was pretty much terrible. MIB 3 needs to be freakin outstanding. Still love the first one though!

    by drsambeckett1984

The Hancock sequel is on hold, so Smith might be free, to be honest, I'd rather TLJ was in it than Smith.

The idea of Brolin playing a younger K is a good idea, but it is really too early to even start contemplating characters and cast for this.

Only do this if it is a straight-up NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN remake set in this world, with Brolin and Jones basically reprising their roles--Brolin finds space-money in an astro-desert--and have some alien be Chigurh. Will Smith can skip this one.

    by meadowe

He was on Conan last night and I thought he'd be snobby, but he wasn't (at least didn't appear to be), he was actually joking a lot, and it made me like him. He did some good impressions of John Malkovich, and in a way that wasn't being in azzhole. I always looked @ him as streissand's stepson, now I feel like watching No Country for Old Men, which I pretty much slept through until the end, and didn't want to rewatch because of bardem's bones sticking out of his flesh. Anyway, brolin's conan appearance makes me wanna see Jonah Hex now, Megan Fox could sure use a hit besides baybots. And he described making out with Megan while wearing the Jonah Hex makeup, and as gruesome as Hex is I'd rather see that than her making out with $h&* lepuke.

    by wickedjester

I've said it before, but it had to be restated -- it's awful. Terrible effects, a runtime of about 38 minutes and a 'guest-star-of-the-week' like feel to it with Knoxville.Brolin as an even harder hardass than Tommy Lee was in the first one could work.

It was far more imaginative and alive than the last movie. And it gave Linda Fiorentino's L character a role, a big part of why I disliked the sequel (but not the only reason). Frankly, I think Will Smith's mojo has been off ever since Scientology started going after him. How does anyone make crap like Hancock or even I Am Legend? Even Seven Pounds wasn't that great--but right now he does the tear-jerker human interest/Oscar bait dramas better than anything else. Damn, I'm starting to think he NEEDS an Independence Day sequel--although I think it'll suck just for being from Emmerich.

    Sonnenfeld is a simpleton director

Has he ever made a movie with a good story? Addams Family 1 & 2 suck, plus MIB was a waste of 2 hours of my life. Get Shorty was stupid as well. Face it, the man can't direct worth a damn.

Number 2 was a pile of trash.
Number 1 had something going with Linda Fiorentino at the end & was tossed.
