Universal's Wolfman has nards, nabs an R rating!

Published at:  Dec 08, 2009 8:18:28 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yes, it's good news that Universal is going with the R-rated cut of Wolfman. Yay for gore and nudity and whatever else that may entitle us horror fans to.

It does make me sad that it's big news when a high profile studio genre film gets an R rating out of the gate, but I guess I'll take what I can get. In the original pre-director shuffle Andrew Kevin Walker script there was a great montage sequence as Mr. Talbot goes on his first werewolf rampage. It read far more in line with An American Werewolf In London than the classic Universal monster, which isn't a bad thing. Especially now that it (hopefully) means we'll get some explicit werewolf carnage.

That's one step. Hopefully Joe Johnston's direction and guiding hand in pacing, editing and the performances from his actors all come together in the end and we get a cool, bloody and fun werewolf flick. I guess we'll all see come February.

R Rating does not = Quality

    by fa_tass_dinomolester

Despite what the common wisdom of horror fans may be, "gore and nudity" never made a film. Unfortunately, Johnston came in and took over another filmmaker's vision rather late in the day, and the film's been rewritten and delayed repeatedly. This'll probably be a fun B-movie, but those expecting a return of the great monster film will probably be disappointed.

Having said that, if it's done tastefully, (as in say, "The Shining"), then R-rated material could give the film an adult/mature air to it. So, yeah...nevermind! Oh, whatever!

    Paranormal Acitivity nudity (sorta)

    by theseeker7

If you want to experience some quasi-Katie Featherston (Paranormal Activity) nudity in a vague, vicarious sorta way, check out pornstar Taylor Vixen. She's a former Penthouse Pet of the Month, and recently been on Howard Stern a couple times. I tell ya there's a couple of spots in the movie where, with the look on Katie's face, I actually had the fleeting thought of could it possibly be the same girl. Granted, if you look at them back to back, there are pictures of each where you'd say they look NOTHING alike, but trust me, there's also pictures out there of each where they look UNCANNILY ALIKE. And Taylor's funbags are huge and allll natural, too ;)

More on topic, I've had a chubby for Emily Blunt ever since "Charlie Wilson's War" and would not argue with getting to see some skin.

    Dingbatty speaks the truth

    by spud mcspud

At 10 years old, my Dad was introducing me to stuff like DEAD AND BURIED, THE EVIL DEAD, THE THING and THE EXORCIST. Scared me shitless at the time, but it gave me an appreciation for this genre that I've not seen in any kid of that age these days. Years of consumerist bollocks has turned this generation into a bunch of mindless zombie bastards that only like what Simon Cowell, Brett Ratner and McTwat tell them to like, and couldn't make an independent decision to save their lives.

I loved the 80s, and parents who let their kids watch movies like that. Parents smart enough to realise, kids can tell fantasy from reality much more easily than adults can. Because shit like SAW and HOSTEL disturbs me much more as an adult (because I know there are people in the world capable of that sick shit) than as a kid (when I always wondered what a person would look like inside-out - thank you Clive Barker, for answering that with the HELLRAISER movies).

And yes, my parents were responsible, caring, attentive, firm, and kept a fair rule in a house where discipline was important but love was far more important. Letting kids watch horror movies does NOT a bad parent make.

Dingbatty - I feel ya, dawg.

I had zero interest in a watered-down PG-13 werewolf movie. This rating will actually get me into the theater. I don't think studios understand that a PG-13 rating will get some more kids in the theater, but it really does drive away a lot of adults who want an uncensored story. Hey Hollywood! I have a lot more money to burn on cinema (including dvd sales) than a 14 year old mallrat kid.

A horror movie isn't a horror movie if its not rated R. Yes, that doesn't mean that it will be good, but it also means that we won't be getting a TWILIGHT version of what is one of the greatest monsters in movie history.

But so far, the trailer looks good and for the most part there is some hope that it will deliver. It's about time a good werewolf movie comes out! Fuck bloodsuckers! Lycans Rule!

    The anti-Twilight monster movie

Yea the R rating doesn't guarantee anything but the cast DelToro, Hopkins, Blunt, Weaving, does at least give hope that its a quality film. No glistening 20-somethings here.
