You Wanna Hear Leona Lewis' AVATAR Song? It's Here!!

Published at:  Dec 09, 2009 1:38:52 PM CST

Merrick here...

Leona Lewis' song from AVATAR is making its way onto The Nets, and can be heard via the embed below.

As with previous James Horner megasongs ("My Heart Will Go On" in TITANIC, for example), you'll hear melody lines from this tune utilized throughout the film's actual score.

Horner's AVATAR score CD is already up for pre-order HERE. It releases on December 15.

That said, I wasn't impressed by this song; but it's not for us, it's for the girls in the audience. Leona Lewis was also tapped for FF13, and her song there was better... There's a big push behind this lady.

Amazing that Horner says he had to re-learn how to score for this film...... JNH always struck me as being a JH emulator.... Horner was obviously impressed with the guy. same thing happened with jerry godsmith and JNH as well. i miss Jerry goldsmith. (sniff)

Then why, in the name of unholy rump-biting hedgepigs do they think this song will sell to sci-fi fans? In hell, Celine Dion is piped into the caverns in an endless loop, as will this shopping-mall-friendly tripe be heard in all the scented-candle and designer tea boutiques across America, and in all the Asian karaoke bars for the next decade. Glad I'm going deaf as I age.

An AICN talkback isn't going to be filled with the target audience for this music anyway, but the Titanic song had a recognizable hook to it that made it catchy enough to take off. This one never wakes up or goes anywhere. Nobody's sister or mom is going to be calling up their radio station asking them to play it again.

    by harper54

of what I initially heard, it sounded like the same fantasy jungle sing songy crap that gets churned out for every fantasy off-world movie. John Williams did it at the end of RotJ and again in TPM. I mean, when you have a movie like this beating you over the head trying to convey a sense of wonderment and unearthly fern-gully like peace and harmony crap it makes it even harder to suspend your disbelief. LOTR did it well by having a dark and ominous score that subtly suggested that all was not well. This kinda shit can really ruin a movie for me.

If they redid the Neverending Story in IMAX 3D, well, that would be something to get excited about. Especially with that giant flying dog. I can only assume someone will remember his name and post it here faster than I can say "Avatar is going to be disappointing." Cameron should have remade that 80s classic, flying dog and all, with this new technology, instead of making a film that is 40% Jar Jar Binks, 30% Smurfs, 10% Thundercats-without-the-cool, and 10% Awful.

Kontarsky - thanks! And johnnyangel - You have to admit T2 was out of control awesome, and that liquid metal terminator was visually orgasmic at the time. But Titanic was also amazing. Captivating and exciting and just overall great. However, I don't see why this film needs to follow in it's footsteps with a lame ass song that has nothing to do with the film. I haven't actually heard it yet, but I don't see how any kind of non-instrumental song fits into this picture.

I agree with your sentiment regarding Lucas, Cameron, et al.

However....I think it's a sad thing that the stuff that people like us tend to flock toward is the "cutting edge" style of nerd-filmmaking. Regardless of that, I don't want to see blue elves and jar-jars...so perhaps there is a middle-ground?

....maybe I'm off-course here. If so, tell me.

Sorry, but I'm probably in the minority that was not impressed with T2 and the liquid Terminator. I did not like "nice-guy" Terminator Arnie. He was so much more awesome and cooler as the evil Terminator in T1, and I could not wrap my head around the physics of the liquid Terminator, although it may be absurd to be worried about physics in a movie about time travelling cyborgs. Also, SaluteYourShorts, what's the other 10%? 40+30+10+10=90.

    Clarification

    by darth_aig

I guess I'm saying that the stuff that Lucas/Spielberg love (Kurosawa,Kubrick,Herzog) has fallen off the face of what is actually being put out there, and I guess my first impression is that the $ is involved...and it's sad. Good filmmaking can be done without demographic info as its compass.

Yeah, lots of substance or evidence for that argument. Don't confuse amount of fx for more interest in fx over story. Cameron has never been guilty of this. Everything visual in Avatar will support the story, guaranteed. And anyone calling Cameron a 'hack' (a term liberally tossed around without any apparent understanding of its meaning), or a studio shill, is a mouth breathing retard and knows little of the man and his ways.Re-commence hating, you fucking inbreds. Lyrics to the new song

    by series7

    Every night in my dreams
I see you. I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.

    Far across the distance
    And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on.

    Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
    Ok you get the joke
Love can touch us one time
    And last for a lifetime
And never go till we're one

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on

    Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

There is some love that will not
    go away

    You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
    We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Your personal opinion of Cameron's work is irrelevant

    by turd_has_risen_from_the_grave

There is no doubt that Cameron exudes passion for his projects. He's not particularly interested in money - he forfeited his salary for Titanic and has been finaning much of Avatar's additional shooting and FX work out of his own pocket.Titanic was selected for its commercial potential? Wrong - it was clearly a labor of love for him, and was widely regarded as commercial suicide, being an unfashionable 3 hour romance and one where everyone knew the ending. It was expected to tank. Cameron could quite easily have signed on for a money-making T3 or True Lies 2, but choe not to-in fact, one of the reasons he turned down T3 was that Mario Kassar owned the rights and insisted on a set release,; Cameron told him he would only do it if he was given enough time to do the movie properly. He wanted to do Titanic instead. But of course, subsequent massive success changes everything - particularly among preening, uppity fools.Avatar, too, is a massive gamble, one that'll pay off, but it has a look and feel that could alienate viewers. Never the less, Cameron made it HIS way, everyone else be damned. the studio told him not to make the characters be blue, or give them tails. Cameron told them no. Just like he told the studio and producers that he was going to walk during Aliens when Sigourney Weaver was unavailable, and the studio wanted to proceed without her. He waited 12 years so that the technology and the exhibition standards were available to make Avatar the way he wanted. He makes films his way, not for studios and not for money.Whether you want to look down your nose at his 'crudeness' for making mainstream, accesible entertainment is largely redundant. To decry him for making projetcs with no 'creativity' or 'originality' (a red herring used by those who have not read or studied widely)is completely asinine. Cameron is no hack - utter, utter stupidity, and transparent and laughable snobbery.

I hate to hate on this but...

    by mel gibsteinberg

James Cameron may be spending a bazillion hours studying the latest computer topography programs and other uber-geeky techno crap to make his movie feel more "realistic" but I think (like Lucas before him) he has lost touch with actually making a coherent movie with believable characters and a compelling story.

The thing I was most surprised about when I saw lots of "extended" scenes and trailers was how unoriginal so many of the shots and looks were.

A bunch of people staring, mouths agape, at the splendor of their new jungle/alien environment (see Jurassic Park, Lost World, etc.)

Tough as nails marines hired by a greedy corporate monolithic institution, to kick ass against an alien threat (see Aliens, Starship Troopers)

"Amazing" aerial and land battles with fantastic creatures, flying dragon like aliens, weird CGI creations and vast armies going up against other vast armies (see Star Wars Prequels, LOTR, Matrix sequels)

The hardened military leaders spouting cliche military commands like "You're not in Kansas anymore" or "You should see your faces, hee hee" (see every Hollywood military cliche scene in just about every military movie ever made)

On the planet Pandora, the evil corporate/government agency is mining the precious mineral Unobtanium which is ridiculously lame in and of itself, and this mineral is the key to the agency's economic future so they must defend it (see Total Recall)

You get the point. I hate to hate on this thing since I haven't seen it yet, but having followed and read the hype on this thing for over a year, I feel so underwhelmed at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of the songs on the album but "This I Love" and "Sorry" are terrible. My wife heard "The Blues" I mean, "Street of Dreams" and started laughing. by spacezilla

Just depends on your mood. This I love is a showcase for Axl's voice and I like how intimate it is. No song runs too long at all. I love how the songs have like breathing room. The arrangements are just really complex. The song Sorry is fucking great. You are fucking craaazay. I love how it sounds almost like an old Sabbath track. And when I am high on Cali's finest If the World is just too tripped out and cool. Anyone have a guess what presentation would be better between seeing Avatar on a big IMAX or seeing it at a Muvico (You know the high end VIP seating theater. • "Jim, what inspired you to make the Na'vi blue?" asked Sarah T., one of the many moviegoers who logged on to MTV.com to watch the chat. "Well," the director of such classics as "Titanic" and "Aliens" began. "We wanted to say that there was an otherness, an alien-ness to them.

But we wanted to keep them human enough that we could understand their emotions. So, they were going to have two eyes, and they were going to have a mouth." Cameron made a point to say that he took particular pride in creating the wholly original world of "Avatar" at a time when so much of Hollywood is spinning their wheels with sequels, remakes and adaptations of old material. And, like his best films, he made sure that a romantic subplot was in the mix — which placed added requirements on the Na'vi character Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana.

"At a certain point, we realized this is going to be a love story," he explained of Neytiri's relationship with Jake Sully, a human-in-Na'vi-form portrayed by Sam Worthington. "So, Zoe's character had to be beautiful and accessible and relatable emotionally." Looking over at his fellow Q&A participants — the Dominican/ Puerto Rican Saldana and Western Australian Worthington — the Canadian-born Cameron said that the Na'vi's blue skin also allowed him to comment on race. "[I was thinking], 'What are the differences that we can deal with, without it becoming a barrier?'

Skin color is great, and it's also great thematically, because skin color is obviously such a big issue on our planet," he explained with a grin, looking at his actors and teasing Worthington. "All the warm tones — from pallid Canadian pink, to beautiful warm browns and, well, pallid Australian pink — were all taken. "So, we were down to blue and green basically — and green had been taken by all those Martian movies with the little green men," he remembered of his reasoning. "So, we have big blue women, not little green men." As far as I can see everything has been thought out by THE MAN. How many times does Cameron have to OWN the trolls until they finally realize that they have 0 arguments against this film? Some moron up top is saying Cameron's lost his touch after Titanic. Oh yeah? Since when? You realize that this his the FIRST movie he's made SINCE TITANIC??? Now you're complaining about people visiting a strange planet for the first time being surprised by what they see and... and this is really funny... that there's "no original shots"???? What... THE... FUCK...???? That comment was so vauge and stupid that I wish I could reach through my screen across the internet and puch you right in the face till you look as blue as a Na'vi! Hopefully Cameron will invent that technology some day!

    Interesting Article On Avatar...From HitFix

    by media messiah

Golden Globes ready to go gaga for 'Avatar'
Posted on Tuesday, Dec 8, 2009 By Gregory Ellwood

Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington in alien form in James Cameron's "Avatar."

Credit: 20th Century FoxOver a decade ago James Cameron was battling media reports that his delayed and pricey epic "Titanic" was a creative disaster and ready to sink at the box office like the famed ocean liner whose story it dramatically re-told. Instead, the Paramount Pictures/20th Century Fox production became a cultural phenomenon and grossed over $1.8 billion worldwide and won a staggering 11 Academy Awards including the prestigious Best Picture trophy. In less than two weeks, Cameron returns to the big screen with his almost as hyped Sci-Fi motion capture adventure "Avatar." The film has sparked heated debate among genre fans and everyday moviegoers as well as finding itself under the microscope of the testy entertainment media. Factoring in the substantial negative responses to the IMAX and Comic-Con previews, many in the industry were coming to the conclusion that "Avatar" would be a nice hit (i.e., $200 million plus in the U.S.) at best thanks to some nicely cut TV spots. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who expected the picture to stand alongside the critical favorites of Cameron's previous work. Boy can things change after one screening in Hollywood. No one who has seen the film is allowed to go on record [and this writer has not seen the film himself], but word has leaked that Fox's gamble may have paid off and "Avatar" may be way more than meets the eye.

After a screening yesterday morning, very reliable sources have told Awards Campaign that the HFPA were incredibly positive about Cameron's latest endeavor. In fact, it's now very likely to be nominated in both the Best Picture - Drama and Best Director categories when the Golden Globe nominations are announced next Tuesday. This was almost unthinkable a week ago and may push expected Globe nominees such as "The Hurt Locker" or "An Education" out of the Best Picture - Drama race. Additionally, this could (emphasis on "could") find "Avatar" seriously being considered for one of the ten nominees for Oscar's Best Picture trophy -- especially considering the 8-10th slots hardly seem secure at this point in the race.

More importantly to Fox, a strong Globe reaction could be the final piece of the puzzle to ensure a massive opening weekend. "Avatar" is already tracking at a $60 million plus debut, but unexpected critical acclaim could certainly boost interest among those on the fence about the genre flick. At the very least, it's certainly another intriguing twist in "Avatar's" 15 year journey to the big screen.

So, will this news convince anyone to now rise early Tuesday morning at 8:30 AM EST/ 5:30 PM PST to find out who was nominated? On second thought, don't answer that West Coast peeps. The news won't change either way if you sleep in to a more reasonable hour. But trust us, we'll be up and waiting.

    Cameron is definitely a tech-wizard

    by morganleafy

he created the technology for Avatar pretty much himself, knows how to film a spectacular action scene and create suspense. Unfortunately, he’s not a talented screenwriter. When he has to compromise full-throttle action for a more elaborate story and characters he falls a bit flat.

that shit he put his name to - about finding proof of the real 'Jesus' was fucking embarrassing and well below a man of his supposed intellect...he's far from perfect..and in a sense this is much like most great auteur's - he's a bit batshit too. Sometimes his curiosity makes him look goofy. So while I'm excited to see this (knowing we're sure to see some eyepopping 3D imax action) I'm also well aware of his weaknesses (soppy melodrama being high on the list). Drippy music like this only confirms it. It still doesn't mean the film will suck..

    THE BIG PROBLEM WITH AVATAR:

    by ray gamma

Is that everybody who has seen the Avatar trailer already feels that they know the whole story. It just looks totally formulaic.

Unless Jim Cameron has created some genius unpredictable story-twists, I think the biggest problem with this movie is going to be that the audience already expect the hero to go over and join the alien side and fall in love with the alien girl - THE END - sort of thing.

    by gabba-uk

The most boring, insipid, torpor inducing lack of talent ever to win a 'talent' show. And I use the term 'win' quite wrongly because EVERY one of those fucking shows is fixed. My apathy towards Avatar is well documented on these TB's but my unwillingness to give my money to Murdochs's corporate collection of jism gargler's at Fox was just beginning to waver purely out of respect of Mr. Cameron's previous work. But this news... just saved me £10. Jim, I put up with Dion in Titanic because she was at the end of film, if this warbling cretin is even associated with the movie then all street cred and respect you've earned just evaporated.

When that warbling cretin got attacked recently at a (ghost-written) book signing, the vicious nasty side of my id, that we all have, got upset that the guy didn't have a gun, then it would serve as a warning to all to not go on 'Talent' shows. So I can't imagine I'd take to the idea of her being involved in Avatar.

X-factor TV for Idiots phenomenon is the best summation of it I've heard. I NEVER watch commercial TV now. It's all part of the worldwide conspiracy to dumb down the media because those in power do not want a free thinking, educated and informed populace making choices. Why do you think Murdoch and now his son constantly attack the BBC? It's because it's free, impartial and tends to focus on small things like being factually accurate. Murdoch wants to tell you what he thinks you should know, even when it's wrong and charge you for the fucking privilege. It's why Murdoch's media has switched sides to supporting the Tory's in the UK. Because David Cameron and his cronies promised they would look at revoking the BBC's royal charter should they win the next general election! Why is this not causing outrage in the UK? Murdoch owns most of the fucking papers is why!!

the story of the LOTR is the same story of world war II, which is the same kind of story that keeps happening in every age throughout human history. the plot is nothing original. and you can see every twist from a mile away. but did the films kick ass? you bet! and it has nothing to do with the predictable plot but everything with HOW the storyteller tell the story. and that's the most important trick.

with avatar cameron also choose another universal and timeless theme that can appeal to everyone on the planet no matter which country they're in. the story is not new, sure, but if anyone can re-tell that story while giving it a sci-fi edge, no one is more qualified than cameron. have faith.

    by themanwhocan

Agreed the BBC is probably soon be the last bastion of free impartial TV news in the world. Ever notice the sly “digs” corporate TV stations have at Wikipedia? I’ve noticed it in sitcoms and cartoons (usually FOX aired). I for one think the BBC online and the wikis have done more to educate the average person than any other medium. I’m Irish and I have to work with idiots that get drawn into these “talent” shows as bad as our British neighbours. Mile long queues of idiots auditioning in front the scum of the earth media whores happen here as well as Britain every year. I was never a fan of talent shows but the shit that is on TV these days isn’t even a talent search. It’s 12 months 7 days a week 2 hours a day worth of free-will destroying brain damage. A 1 hour show may have 5 minutes of actual “performance” the other 55 minutes is recycled footage of previous shows and footage of the idiots queuing outside audition buildings over and over and over again. Nobody seems to notice this and after a year of long drawn out talent searching among seemingly tens of thousands of singers!! …. We get Leona Lewis who is a poor singer, not terrible but poor, piss poor and the powers that be at FOX cynically shoe horn her and her shitty music into Avatar as a Celine Deon clone. This is going to kill the movie. The good news is its FOX’s movie so fuck-em and all that sail in her!

Everyone in the UK pays a yearly TV license which funds the BBC, no commercials, so it's about as free as a whore with a passable face. Also, they have never been impartial, though they're even less so these days since they had to sell their soul to the government following the WMD fiasco and Dr. David Kelly's 'suicide'. Is all.

Ash_Williams = Let Down Star Wars fanboy, FACT

    by johnno

The fact that he brought Episode 1 into the discussion shows his underlying delimma. And btw the way Ash you idiot. Cameron wasn't thrilled with the idea about the Dion song in Titanic, but Horner convinced him to leave it in. And it became insanely popular. I doubt Cameron is very thrilled by the idea of the Lewis song either, but I'm betting this is also at Horner's insistance, and because of Titanic Cameron's giving him the benefit of the doubt. Heck both Cameron and Horner were attempting to make some original sounding score but in the end settled for something mroe traditional. And besides all that the irony in your statements is that you try to convince us that the songs from both Titanic and now subsequently Avatar would never be popular. But if you try living in reality bub, there's tons of people who really love that Titanic song and also love Lewis. I have no idea why, but your argument made no sense before it began. I don't like this song. But I'm betting the masses inevitably will. Because the masses pay attention to celeb people like Lewis which will draw their attention to this song and obviously the film and I'm certain the masses will love it because they are not hung up on shit like you are. You can take that to the bank.

This movie looks awesome. Sure it could suck, but what looks anything from bad so far? This song? Fools.

I'm pretty fucking pumped to see this.

I was pumped to see Wild Things too and that blew, so we'll see.

    Dr. Parnassus did not blow.

Ferngully 2000 plotline combined with ultra-cheesy music. What exactly is there to see here? The amazing CGI? Pfff, get the fuck out of here. That shit does not impress me.

"I See You" sung by Leona Lewis

    by antirude

I happen to like listening to Leona Lewis sing. I do not think she is impersonating Celine Dion; but the song sounds like the Titanic song because both songs are written by the same composer. What's all Cameron hate about here? I just saw "Avatar, " and I was in awe. It's a grand piece of film making. It is both enjoyable and provocative. Enough with all the rude comments already.
