That New RIDDICK Movie We've Been Hearing About??
Merrick here...
We've previously indicated that a new RIDDICK movie (or two?) may be in the works.
While no formal announcement has been made about further film(s?), Vin Diesel has already indicated that franchise writer/director David Twohy has scripted at least one new RIDDICK sequel (although hints suggest there are actually two follow-ups being mulled).
Vin recently updated his Facebook page, where he says pre-production work on the next RIDDICK has now progressed to actually looking for places to shoot.
The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting.
...says Vin HERE.
The momentum on this thing (these things?) seems very strong - Universal will likely be even hornier for a franchise now that BOURNE is floundering about. Wondering when we'll hear something official?

...some people just don't know when it's over.
-
I'd be willing to go see this. i actually enjoyed chronicles of riddick.
-
Hell yeah.
-
With the way Chronicles ended, Twohy has the opportunity to go really BIG this time.
-
some might wonder why he went back to this, but it worked for Fast and Furious, and I'd much rather see this than XXX 3.
-
I really enjoyed the cheesy pleasures of Chronicles of Riddick and there was a great setup for a sequel.
-
So what he do now that he's like King or whatever he was at the end of Chronicles? That was a really cool ending. They're just going to screw it up. I'll be back to say I told you so.
-
whats the point of a sequel!?!? that crappy movie that came out a few years ago was fucking worse than a jay leno stand up show!!
-
He always wanted to do another, I'm surpised it took this long
-
If they are going to do them<p> Vin's not getting any younger
-
especially when it's a good plan. Let's hope this pans out
-
sucked Big time!
-
I've enjoyed both Pitch Black and the farfetched Furian/Furyan(sp?) storyline with the Necromongers which was entertaining. Riddick is an excellent anti hero from very good source material.
-
good action, ridiculous characters, over reaching plot, over dramatic space opera.<br> <br>sounds perfect to me.
-
So much fun. People need to stop taking themselves so seriously.
-
I could give a fuck that Chronicles didn't make that much sense. I love Vin in this role. And soup74 summed it up nicely.
-
i can see why the director was pissed, and it was basically just shat out by the studio, but you can tell there could have been something much better there. it's not a waste of time to watch.
-
They invalidated the whole point of Pitch Black. Riddick was a criminal who did his best to save other people in a nightmare scenario. What did the second movie do? Kill off everyone he saved in the first. Which makes it completely pointless to watch now.
-
At all.
-
i thought they did a great job of including that part of his life, but moving past it. they could have pulled an Alien 3.
-

I think Riddick works best in smaller settings.
by liesandpicturesofalsolies
I thought ChronRiddick had its moments, but I thought Pitch Black was so fresh and interesting because it was about the characters in this awesome and terrible sci-fi situation. The universe unveiled just wasn't as interesting.
-
Another smaller setting, another great Riddick experience.
-
but i did. i dont know.. when you say you like 'bad sci fi' movies.. people think you mean like 50's movies. i mean i like current bad sci fi movies..heh. (i wachted every cut i could find of southland tales too.)
-
Fun, pulpy S-F adventure. Pretentious in parts? Sure. Goofy at times? Yep. But it entertained me.
-
Riddick sucked. PB was set in a gritty future that could have been the same one in which the Alien franchise was set. Chronicles ditched that an gave us Golden Compass-level phony sets, cheesy CGI and, for some reason, a transparent, dubbed-in Dame Judi Dench, slumming for extra bank, apparently.
-
It felt like real world-building science fiction instead of just an repurposed Aliens sequel.
-
but it was quite the letdown. I don't know, it felt like he was being held back too much. I'll all for fucked up plots, but I wanted more crazy action mixed in.
-
Who gives a shit, who gives a fuck!
-
Pitch Black AND Chronicles of Riddick were both a blast.
-
Although the planet where everyone dressed like they were from the Holiday episode of the Cosby show bugged me like Zion in Matrix.
-
He's on facebook all the time. He's very excited about Riddick as well as another F&F installment.
-
so when they say things like, "that was when i started testing artificial intelligence in babies.."<br><br>i think, "yeah, AI in babies makes them smarter and god like...works for me! ... what's next?"
-
Chronicles of Riddick was too watered down.
-
You know, Vin doesn't even seem like that bad of a guy...but who knows if that's actually true. As much as I love to see total douchebags crash and burn, it's not so fun to rip on an okay person who just wanted to live that fame dream that EVERY ONE OF YOU has fantasized about at some point.
-
Dune. Destined to become a classic.
-
That's all I got at the moment.
-
Both movies were good.

Get back to the basics. Get rid of the "mythology."
by The Reluctant Austinite
The character of Riddick works in basic action movie structures. He's the loner, badass, gunslinger, anti-hero. He doesn't need to get involved in some kind of "Dune" pseudo-epic. This type of character needs balls, not pretense.
-
I thought that one started filming after the last one made all that money?
-
They get my vote for trying though. There aren't too many attempts at original sci-fi movies anymore.
-
that the plan was to unveil an even bigger enemy in the next movie, and having Riddick take over the Necromongers (ugh) was a plot by M to fight the new threat?
-
Everything else just doesn't work for me, though I can't say they didn't try. I hope the next one is smaller scale like Pitch Black.
-
I thought that was what was being bandied about during his press for Fast and Furious?
-
Especially if they lean this back towards being more "Pitch Black" R-Rated goodness.
-
The last one tanked big time. The first was one was a cult hit at best. Who is seriously busting to see this made? Make a conan style fantasy film instead.
-
Love these movies.
-
You really think anyone's clamoring for a Conan style fantasy film?
-
Not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but gloriously pulpy B-movie sci-fi. Good fun.
-
I quite rather enjoyed it!
-
It was semi original and felt like a new thrill, I look forward to more especially with Karl Urban in it.
-
the worst movies i have ever seen. i literally could not make any sense of that lump of shit, and couldn;t make it to the end without hurting myself. why do you even bother posting shit like this as if it's important news?
-
Get away from the huge battles/fleets/etc., and really concentrate on some great Leone-esque storylines featuring a number of strongly-scripted and well-cast characters.
-
Fuck the haters. Go back to your corner, assholes.
-
Can't wait.
-
Good call Smashing.
-
Hmmm. An anti-hero who has conquered the current ruler and is now in a position to shape things as the new king. Sounds familiar.
-
And yeah, regardless if you liked the movie or not, people were curious about where he goes from there. The games have filled in some blanks, but still.
-
She was badass herself and they made a good badass couple. But I guess it's hard to be badass if you're in some type of relationship that works well!
-
Though CHRONICLES was merely okay, it has ambition, and I'd rather see that sort of film than the disposable junk that accounts for 90% of films.
-
...how many times do we need to hear this stuff from him? When a motion picture studio actually issues a press release announcing another Riddick film, then I'll pay attention.
-
but nobody gave a shit. Now he's doing sequels to everything XXX, Riddick, FAst & Furious 12, etc..
-
..bad pacing, nonsensical plot (almost like a tour-de-force shitfest.)Tombs would have made a good villian had the script would have been more tweaked not to mention how lame the music was and that all so abrupt ending. King Riddick deez nuts.<p>Yeah, poor Vin.A perfect getaway was a waste of my 90 minutes of my precious time.Towhy owes me, better yet, one night with Milla would more than make up for it. :P
-
I thought CoR was way to wattered down like a SyFy original movie. I appreciated its attempt at originality and a new direction but unfortunately I believe it fell flat.
-
Now that would be a battle for the ages.
-
CoR was a live action Heavy Metal (comic magazine) movie. About what I would expect if the MetaBaron series was made into films.<p> It was extremely enjoyable if you didn't put too much thought into it and just rode along with the one cool idea to the other. But if you spent any energy on thinking about the movie, the story made little sense. <p> CoR equals live action Heavy Metal from the 80s.

Thought it was the best killer alien movie since "Aliens". However, Riddick was a horrible combination of SW, Dune and some God-awful fantasy stuff. Upon leaving the theater, I believe my exact sentiment was "That wasn't worth the celluloid it was printed on". Not looking forward to another one, unless they greatly simplify it and go back to Riddick VS Alien Monsters, Beast VS Beast. To be honest, Twohy's original concept of Riddick fighting Tree/Tiger things on a living planet sounded much better than what ultimately came about.
-
I can't wait, just make this one as good as Pitch Black!!!

Think someone could spend half their life in a slam with a horse bit in their mouth and not believe? Think he could start out in some liquor store trash bin with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and not believe? Got it all wrong, holy man. I absolutely believe in God. And I absolutely hate the fucker!
-
and it didn't seem to phase his religiosity. Of course, they were all pretty obnoxious, and he never really liked them anyway.
-
A budget any less than the second movie's budget will tank the movie.
-
Pitch Black was good, but the rest have suffered, from poor acting, limp concepts and being over-all boring. Forget this, Vin, voice another Iron Giant.
-
Vin would be a pretty good one.
-
there are some cool ideas in the riddick movies...the weird art deco-ish style armor and statues in chronicles wasn't one of them though.
-
Riddick hated God for the life that he had to live. But Fry sacrificing herself to save him changed his view. He would no longer be the bitter selfish man that he was. At the end he said that Riddick died on that planet, he had found meaning to his life and made his peace with God. Beautiful ending, wished the sequel could of lived up to its potential.
-
Why would Universal want a franchise that will lose them money? Nobody cares about Riddick, and this has been proven at the box office. You lose, Merrick. Again.
-
Any new Riddick movie is a good idea, frankly. Yeah, Chronicles was a let down after Pitch Black, and I'd much rather they went back to Pitch Black's tone for the new ones but fuck, I loved Chronicles too. It was just gleefully dumb, exciting fun. And Riddick is such a cool character, they could base a remake of the Sound of Music around him and it would be amazing. Vins a cool guy. I don't like all his movies, but I like that he's out there making them. Thumbs up from ol'Hint for ten more Riddick movies.
-
well made but with the wrong vision (like superman returns for example) <p>Hollywood tried to make a hero out of an anti-hero,in order to create a more family friendlier, more mainstream franchise of a character who actually is not likeable,at least not to the average moviegoer. <p>Twohy should stick to what Riddick really is: a criminal,a killer,a bad boy.he is like a more hardcore version of Snake Plisken.such characters you put them into their proper context, you create a story which is suitable for their personality. <p>Riddick should be part of simpler stories, more grounded to the world of crime he is part of,for example a story where he tries to escape a prison, like the videogame Escape from Butcher Bay.that was Riddick's world, and something like that should be in a movie with him. <P>But instead Twohy chose to make a more epic and more complex story, about destiny, human change, sacrifices, being the last of the Mohicans eeer the Furians etc,he chose to turn Riddick into a big, cosmic hero.thats was a mistake.
-
Cool news. Riddick was great pulp sci-fi IMO. Myabe I'm wrong, but the way I see it, there's only one way for the story to go: Riddick will (following the Orpheus myth) descend into the Underverse to look for Kyra. And it'll be cool, if they work out somegood surreal designs for the Underverse. Hope they bring back some of the cast from CoR.
-
Please stop. First we had endless remakes, now board games and sequels which no one but fan boys cares about. Just make another Tomb Raider movie while you're at it. They both have about the same amount of demand from the audience.
-
On the Iron Man 2 poster? pretty cool.
-
COR was an unexpected delight! Great characters (the bounty hunters were such fun), interesting bad guys, and a chance for Riddicks character to do what he does best, kick ass and take names. I loved the art direction too, don't know why it's being compared to Dune, which was amazing, but completely different. Looking forwards to more.
-
But compare it to TF2 & T:S and it's a freakin masterpiece compared to those. Riddick is a solid character and good stories can be built around him. I say give us 2 more Riddick movies, but do not make him a "good" guy, keep him badass, that is what makes him awesome, make him a good guy and you destroy the character.
-
I agree with your analogy. It reminds me, back in the day, me & my friends would do this "modern-day" thing. For example: "Tom Petty is the modern day Bob Dylan" and now "CoR is the modern day Heavy Metal"
-
as a character. But beyond that dark planet, his universe is super-duper lame. Even Colm Feore looked like a dork in that movie. Maybe if the new movie limits him to one location again... "Die Hard on a space station" or something.
-
was on point as far as good sci-fi goes! CoR = not so much.
-
These films hardly made any money. A poor substitute for Bourne, ey?
-
The Chronicles of Riddick mirrors the story of Conan's rise to become King of Aquilona fairly closely. The movie was essentially Conan in spaced already and I, for one, thought it was a great flick. Pitch Black is held up as this holy grail of independent style sci-fi but I never really rated it. Give me large Warhammer 40Kesque gothic fleets of the Necromunga or whatever they were called any day. tl;dr MOAR RIDDICK!
-
Compared to TF2 and T:S, eighty percent of all cinema and television could be considered masterpieces.
-
Well yea, but when people call Chronicles bad, just look at your alternatives.
-
I forgot his last name, you know that guy with the deep voice. Anyway if any Diesel fliq should get a sequel it should be that one.

by 3D-Man
Wasn't COR all sets and green screen?

lets hope it's R rated...
-
Riddick works best in close quarters. Keep the scope small, ala Pitch Black/Butcher Bay/New Athena. I enjoyed Chronicles, but less as a Riddick movie and more as a space opera... Riddick's whole character seemed overshadowed by the Necromonger threat.
-
Vin Diesel has the acting ability of a 5 year old who eats nothing but paint chips. He makes the acting of Chuck Norris or Van Damme look like Pacino or DeNiro. I think I would rather watch a movie starring John Cena than another Vin Disel movie and I HATE John Cena with a passion.
-
Riddick: Qulas...
-
did he put his big finger in your little, virgin, asshole? jesus
-
I would so line up for a new Riddick, and who ever said Riddick goes to Underverse after jack is a fucking genius. Just imagine a hard R Riddick goes to Hell... then in the sequel Hell comes after them and you have a massive Necromonger vs Hell war. Just awesome!
-
...but they're excited about Riddick? That's...baffling.
-
to do with Avatar. And the Riddick director's cut was pretty fun. Never boring and even if the plot and mythology are VERY VERY BORROWED, I'll let that go. Everything is derivative and that movie was good for being so.
-
He was kinda cool in COR, if under-used. He was teh fucking awesome in PATHFINDER, though. Had Urban played the Caviezel role in OUTLANDER, that movie would have been perfect... ;D
-
I think Riddick is Vins best character.
-
This franchise is pure cheesy epic SF fun - brainless and yet strangely alluring in the same way Lynch's DUNE was. There's no reason why two more movies like the first two can't be at least as entertaining, if not more so. Stow your cynicism, you hard-to-please fucks - at least it's NOT a fucking remake!!
-
Should be leading the enemies against Lord Marshall Riddick and his Necrophiliac Empire. Fnar.
-
THAT would be fucking badass
-
make that much dough that it makes sequels viable? My understanding was that the 2 films and spin off merchandise did OK, but nothing of note. <P> Anyone know how much TCOR and Pitch Black made all in?
-
I think most of its money comes from a slow but steady ever growing DVD sales (Pitch Black, CoR and the anime Dark Fury) and of course the game money. Butcher Bay was the best orginal X-box game they ever put out.
-
Still like Vin, still like the Riddick character and universe and the homage to Dune. I'd really love for them to go in a completely new direction (make up some reason for him to not be associated with the Necromongers, and forget about the threat of the Underverse)... let's see them top the last movie with something wholly original. I'd see it twice then buy the DVD.
-
I think the whole Riddick character has promise, as evident by Pitch Black and some of the more badassed moments in Chronicles, but it was all the extra-curricular fluffing about in Chronicles which killed it. Not to mention Thandi Newton who was fucking horrendous.
-
And they'd better make good on that trip to the Underverse where Riddick might meet Kira and the Lord Marshal again too. Forget the theatrical cut, but do start with that final shot of the Necromongers bowing to Riddick and his "You keep what you kill" oh shit line before opening credits. Yes, I do want a sequel in case you couldn't tell.
-
What do they have? Fast and the Furious? The Mummy? The Hulk? Momma Mia? Those poor bastards!
-
Still not impressive.
-
is one of my great guilty pleasures. Like Pitch Black, love CoR even more. Twohy actually had a TRILOGY mapped out -- CoR was the first of an intended THREE films in that mythology. However, Universal spent over $100 mil. on CoR, and lost big-time at the box office that summer. We then heard nothing as Twohy hid in a cave in Afghanistan for a couple of years, probably keeping Osama's seat warm while he was over on the Pakistan border getting dialysis treatment. Now Twohy emerges over the last year or two with "I'm working on a 'Riddick' script, but much smaller scale." No shit, Sherlock. Universal wasn't ready to throw money at Twohy and Diesel after CoR bombed for obvious reasons, so what's changed now? DVD sales? Video game merchandising? If this thing gets made at all, it will be on a MUCH smaller scale (ironically, more like Pitch Black, which is what most people here SEEM to want to see), I'm betting for around $40-$60 mil. -- mixed with some "independent" financing a la private investment and Vin Diesel fanatics in Poland. I like Vin, but he somehow never quite achieved what I think he possibly could have -- now, he's really only got one iron-clad franchise, F&F, and even that one had trouble getting him back (he seems to have wizened up).
-
wasn't really a "sequel" to Pitch Black, which is what some people don't get. It was another film, an attempt at a new franchise, featuring the same character, in an enhanced universe and mythology.

VIN DIESEL IS A MONOSYLLABIC MEATHEAD, REMEMBER WHEN……
by TehCreepyThinMan
The Fast and the Furious came out, made 150 million and everyone thought that this fucking chump was the next big thing and paid him 20 million for XXX. SUCKERS!!! 2 Fast 2 Furious comes out and made JUST AS MUCH MONEY as the first one even without that skinhead palooka. Even the third movie made decent bank. Turns out that the morons who went to see these movies were there to see the street racing and couldn’t give a shit about the flesh puppets in the drivers seat. Next thing you know he’s starring in a 100 million plus sequel to the vastly over-rated Sci-fi/Action flick Pitch Black called The Chronicles of Riddick Written and Directed by David Twohy who also made the first movie. This was meant to be the blockheads Terminator 2 except that it was a piece of shit and only made half it’s budget back domestically. I was hoping by now that this dipshit would have been back to working as a bouncer by now and we wouldn’t have to endure Hollywood’s pathetic attempts to turn every muscle bound asswipe into the next Arnold or Sly.

COR suffered from the same problems as the later Alien sequels..
by Nasty In The Pasty
...in that it took a thin character who was just lucky to survive an attack by alien monsters, and tried to "mythologize" them. Ripley's story was DONE in Aliens, but in Aliens 3 and Ressurection, the producers were desperate to keep Sigourney Weaver around, and thus tried to turn her into this epic alien-slayer talked of in hushed tones, and it just didn't work. Pitch Black was this awesome little Alien knockoff, but the Riddick character being turned into a Neo clone didn't work at ALL. So, this monosylabic thug is the savior of the entire fucking universe? Lame.
-
more, please! just watched the LORD MARSHALL in HIGHWAYMEN (the film 'death proof' - no longer will i capitalize crap flicks - only wished it could be). glad to see all the COR fans here - as i expected, the intelligent ones. SIDE NOTE - i would really like to be in a KATE & RHONA sandwich
-
... they hadn't done that crap with him being the 'last of the Furions.' He was already a super-sighted space assassin. Why did he have to be even more specialer?

My favorite movie of this last year was PERFECT GETAWAY.
-
That Necromonger stuff pretty lame, so was the Furian stuff. For some reason I enjoyed that movie. Weird how some things work when they shouldn't.

Riddick should always be a supporting character.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
That would be an original franchise. Sort of like Michael Keaton as Agent Ray Nicolette in Jackie Brown and Out of Sight.
-
I now want a t-shirt that says DARKER on the front and MORE RETARDED on the back.
-
The last one was so hit and miss for me I am unsure how I feel about this. I'd love to see a Riddick movie that's like a feature length version of the prison scene with no gay Xena reject villains.
-
eats the ladies back to front.
-
maybe not more retarded, but definitely stupid.
-
whateveh
-
Just watched it for the first time last night...it's actually shocking how much of the story was cut out for the general release. It made the mythology they're trying to build a bit more solid and not tacked on like it felt in the general release version...<P>They're not the greatest movies ever but Riddick is a pretty fucking cool character and I've been looking forward to the Underverse story since the end of Riddick.
-
but bloody hell it was a hard slog. George Lucas may be no JRR Tolkein, but he was bang on the money when he said, in one of the Star Wars making ofs, that one of the mistakes people make in fantasies is to go too far, too fantastical. And that's exactly what Riddick did. Those strange wispy people being a case in point.
-
FLOCKA!!
-
Some kind of time travel deal, where riddick has to save his ancestor bourne.
-
he explores his inner female side.
-
Twohey is great,but it seems he is,like carpenter,more fit for medium-budget movies,than big-budget ones.
-
Pitch Black/Dark Fury/Chronicles is NOT the Riddick trilogy! Can't wait for the real thing.
-
...as long as it means more of those awesome Riddick games are made!
-
FUCK YEAH
-
Why make another one?? The first one was good. The second one was utter crap. Underverse? & Vin just growling all the way through with those lousy actors, it made battle beyond the stars look really good. I like Vin, but this film was complete & utter shite!
-
Dear God, Twohy's dialogue makes Lucas' wordplay look positively Shakespearean. Throw in Vin's stilted delivery and you have unintentional laughs ahoy. Let's be honest, both Pitch Black and Chronicles are utter fucking toilet...and Twohy is one weird cunt. Another film? Oh do fuck off.
-
...if done right. While Chronicles was uneven (to put it mildly), it ended on one of the most mind-fucking odd and exciting notes in sci fi film history. *SPOILERS* Riddick staring at his own unwanted destiny as the new spiritual head of the same pack of miscreant sociopathic crusaders he'd been killing the whole film? Kira dies as one of them (albeit betraying them in the end)? His phantom army heading to some dark part of the universe where death is worshipped? If written correctly..and if Twohy doesn't shy from an R rating, this could be nasty epic.
-
an epic FAIL... That said, I wouldn't mind another Riddick movie.
-
if you're going to actually attempt to sell us that Twohy's dialogue is somehow worse than Lucas's.
-
...should have been uttered by Obi Wan in that abortion of a third film after he gets finished chopping off all of Anakin's limbs like the Black Knight in Monty Python...and then he should have cut off Anakin's whiny bitch-head. Lucas could learn a lot from Twohy.
-
To a pre-pubescent teen in the year 2000, perhaps. Today it's positively cringe-inducing. Admittedly, Twohy's shitty dialogue isn't helped by Diesel's terrible delivery...but frankly, they could have had Mkellen reading that bilge and it would have still been a nail-biting embarrassment. Twohy is a talentless hack, plain and simple.
-
Ah, you've resorted to the most abused phrase in talkback history, yet you offer no actual evidence to back your opinion. Your username is very appropriate.
-
WARLOCK. CRITTERS 2. THE FUGITIVE. TERMINAL VELOCITY. THE ARRIVAL.
-
weren't Oscar bait. They weren't worthy, issue-driven dreck. They were pretty solid, entertaining beer-and-a-pizza Satirday night movies. And that's BEFORE he started on the RIDDICK franchise.<P> Twohy's not talentless, and he is no hack. What he is, is a safe pair of genre hands, with IMAGINATION. We could all do a lot worse than Twohy for decent genre fare.<P> And yes, "Did not know who he was fuckin' with" was a very AWESOME line. If you can't connect with your inner pre-pubescent teen, then these movies aren't meant for you. Go watch ATONEMENT II or something instead.
-
...even with the convenient omissions of Waterworld & G.I.Jane, Mcspud's list is "evidence" enough. Mattman, forgive my faux pas. Allow me to re-phrase, Twohy is a usless cunt, plain and simple. That better for you? And surely "Epic fail" is the most abused phrase in talkback history?
-
I'll take a WARLOCK, THE FUGITIVE, any RIDDICK movie - hell, even CRITTERS 2, arguably the best of the bunch - over a fucking TRANSFORMERS movie or, God forbid, anything to do with that TWILIGHT shite.<P> You think Twohy is as bad as it gets in this genre? Acquaint yourself with the TRUE depths to which it can sink - Brett Ratner, McFuckingG, Len Wiseman, Bryan Singer, even everything from fucking Bayhem since around 2004. And EVERYTHING Platinum Dooms has ever done.<P> If you still think Twohy is the worst director after wading through that slurry pit of pure absolute suck, there is no fucking hope for you. I'll take WATERWORLD over SUPERMAN RETURNS or LIVE FREE OR SUCK HARD or fucking UNDERWORLD (aka WE RIPPED OFF WHITE WOLF AND GOT AWAY WITH IT) or that fucking TWILIGHT any day of the goddamn week. Anal, there is truly no hope for you.
-
that says it all. and i think the fissure is in his brain
-
If vision stuck too, will reap dividends in the home viewing market even if gets bum press etc at the flicks n mediocre box return. There aren't many decent big sci-fi/fantasy trilogys about. The Matrix n 2 Star Wars Trilogys are really all. LOTR was really an all out action fest set in the LOTRs novels - which is fine - but Riddick could go in some interesting philosophical directions and it had cool imagination mix. Will be harder for people to miss if completed trilogy makes it to home viewing market, loads will end up giving it a whirl so no need to dumbdown from original intent if done completely. How many people understand the Matrix sequels just on a plot level, let alone it's themes etc Same as Star Wars themes etc If a full story is done, you can cram lots of stuff into it and peopel can check out whatever they go with - even if just to say, 'man that sucked big hairy balls' or whatever. And the geeks can go, 'i really like how this relates to that', or whatnot. I would like to see more of the structural power of the thing taking the universe over, why this shouldn't or should happen, different worlds with druids/mystics etc. Highlander franchise is a case in point when the nerve gets lost -plug pulled, being an all most Great of a fantasy franchise - but expansive plot gets trimmed out in second film and no one can make any sense of the thing even though lots of cool stuff is set up in diff. degrees.

They should make one out of The Strangers. If they ramped up the scares yet kept the air of mystery around the 3 antagonists it could be a good fliq. And personally I thought riddiq was coo', it's enjoyable enough, just like ff7 Advent Children which I happen to be watching at this moment.
