Aziz Ansari And Jason Woliner Sell A Shitload Of Funny To Judd Apatow!

This story somehow got lost in the fog of Thanksgiving week, but since it's good news about three (potential) new films from two extremely funny fellas, I'ma run it.
As reported first by Variety, Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures have snatched up three (3) comedy pitches from Aziz Ansari and Jason Woliner. And if you're wondering what's so special about a hot-shit producer and a deep-pocketed studio plunking down for a trio of ideas from two up-and-coming comedic talents, well... as long as our nation is still vulnerable to cinematic dirty bombs like OLD DOGS, it is crucial that we flood the production pipelines with promising projects so that this...
... can never happen again.
In brief, here are the three premises:
1) LET'S DO THIS - "A road movie about two guys who work with a motivational speaking company."
2) UNTITLED DISGRACED COSMONAUT COMEDY - Yes, please.
3) UNTITLED RAAAAAAAANDY! MOVIE - Based on Ansari's horrifically oversexed stand-up character from Apatow's FUNNY PEOPLE.
Woliner, who directed most of the HUMAN GIANT sketches (as well as a recent PARKS AND RECREATION episode and Patton Oswalt's most recent comedy special, MY WEAKNESS IS STRONG), is attached to call the shots on all three movies. Ansari, meanwhile, is set to star in the Cosmonaut and Randy movies. I've no clue about the first film, but if I were a gambling man, I'd bet my dad's SWANK collection that Paul Scheer or Rob Huebel will occupy one of the leading roles.
I'm all for the Human Giant gang taking over Universal's production slate. Hopefully, you are, too.

I'm glad Apatow's retreating from his ill-fated "dramedy" excursion...FUNNY PEOPLE was the first movie where I was rooting for leukemia. And while we're at it, could we get ONE FUCKING MOVIE where the protagonist doesn't have to save/pursue his relationship with The Love Of His Life? Shit's getting old. -
Ansari's never been funny in his fucking life. So, for the sake of your mother and children, don't toss about words like "freaking" or "hilarious" when talking about a loud, unfunny, obnoxious comedic bit of anti-matter named Aziz Ansari. Because you lose all credibility when you do.

I only pitched in for the cosmonaut one (which is tentavly titled "So fast, I'm Russian") but i've heard the pitches for the other ones and it's funny stuffI've done some work with appatow in the past (for a time i was considered a potential show runner for undeclared, if it had received a back 9 order)

Patton Oswalt's last comedy special was a letdown? Just didn't hold up well to his other stuff. I was looking foward to it but only made it half-way through before switching channels.

Oswalt's last special was a little slow. Is he slowing down his delivery for the large audience he performed in front of? For the mainstream Comedy Central audience? He is usually rapid fire, but the pacing and delivery was weak. Perhaps... the director's fault?

Ansari is hillarious on Parks, the episode where they have to dig up dirt on the rest of the office was the best episode and learning ansari has a fake green card marriage makes him the most interesting character in the show, also the fact that a brown guy dressed as a jedi automatically looks like a taliban member is the truest thing ever mention on TV

as far any reason why he's not excruciating, umm... he stars on one of the most critically acclaimed comedies on tv and he just signed a 3 picture movie deal with the most successful comedy producer of the last decade? also his standup is hilarious from clips i've seen on late night shows and Human Giant was funny too.

For the record, if you want funny, why not look up a guy named Richard Pryor. The fact that this loud, banal, obnoxious idiot gets a comedic pass BECAUSE of his skin color does annoy me. He isn't funny. He's like a mongoloid version of Chris Rock (scrubbed of all wit and incisive commentary).

No, we get it. And he isn't. The problem I have with "Raaaandy" is that Ansari has nothing to SAY with the character. It's pure shock and banality without a developed sense of irony or insight (albeit, "unintentional-intentional insight within this oversexed moronic character). It's simply poorly executed, even if, in concept, it could work.
Basically, it "seems" edgy, but it's easy and lazy. That's what YOU don't seem to "get". -
