Here's A Pic Of Platinum Dunes' Freddy (Sorta!!)
Merrick here...
Figures.com has an interview with NECA's Head of Product Development, Randy Falk about upcoming product the company is developing. The article features an image of NECA's Freddy Krueger figure from Platinum Dunes' forthcoming remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. While not an actual photo of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy, this image gives us one of our first (if not the first) clear look at how the character will appear this time around.
And, as teasers have already hinted, it's quite similar (in appearance, at least) to Robert Englund's Freddy.
Click the pic to jump to the article, which features more details about what NECA is up to (figs from Louis Leterrier's CLASH OF THE TITANS!) as well as a larger image of Freddy.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is scheduled for release April 30, 2010. The Powers That Be may wanna consider changing that "Don't fall asleep" tagline. Might send the wrong message.

They should call this movie "Weasel Man's Revenge" instead.
-
What do you mean, exactly? Do you think it will push kids to do more meth to stay awake for days?
-
I was actually excited for this remake. I love the original Nightmare but the sequels ranged from mediocre to complete shit (Dream Child being on my worst movies of all time list). The prospect of Freddy actually being scary again had me excited but the more I see of the finished product, the more cautious I get about my optimism.
-
in HANNIBAL-as that mangled faced villian.Except that looked cool, this looks...just..lame.
-
I never quite realized how silly the fedora is on this character. The 80s were all about that fucking accessory!
-
Other than a bit reptillian vibe going on the difference is really negligible.
-
looks like clint eastwood having a stroke with his face covered in shit
-
literally...
-
... it could be a HELL of a lot worse for a needless "reimagining."
-
...the "stupid-ass hat" decade.

I'm sure you're from Buenos Aires --

Never realized how Freddy had the original hipster look
by kikuchiyoboy
He's even got the fucked up face and claws.

The challenge in reimagining an icon is that you can't change too much or the icon will be unrecognizable and the fans won't be happy, but you can't just have them look exactly the same or it's boring and lazy. This make-up finds a nice middle ground by coming up with a more realistic burn victim look while still being instantly identifiable as Freddy.
-
thet were going to put make-up on Jackie Earle Haley
-
No, not Buenos Aires. Tucuman actually, totally different place and people. What makes you say that?
-
Could just be the model though. Or not
-
Not filling me with optimism.
-
...because that Freddy looks freakin' hilarious! Wow, silly to the extreme.

Freddy design will look great. Haley will be terrific.
by hint_of_smegma
But the film is going to be balls....got very little hope for this one. Haley is an inspired choice for Freddy, I've no doubt he will be utterly brilliant in the role but I have a feeling that's gonna be the only good thing about this movie.
-
Oldman from Hanniabal. only he looked better.
-
i'm sure it'll look better on the actual actor and in movement and all but yeah, after 25years of Englund's face and his makeup style, its such a drastic change. it looks realistic though so if that was the plan then kudos. But yeah if you just had the head, no hat or anything nobody would realize thats supposed to be Freddy. though i do like how they kept that little "crater" on his cheek, as different as the makeup looked throughout the movies, they always kept that part so nice little nod.
-
Just awful.
-
exactly!
-
why fix something that isn't broken? oh wait, we're taking about tard h'wood execs... right.
-
I think it's the skin stretched out around the eyes.
-
It was one of the superior entries on the series, but the fake ass rubbery make-up and stupid claw nearly ruined it. It looked like a cheat Freddy Kruger suit you'd buy in a Joke Shop. What were they thinking? Wes Craven directed it, you'd think he would have respected the origional design.
-
1,2,3,4,5!!!!!!! five sharp fingers!!
-
it's not iconic like the true Freddy is.
-
Those look an awful lot like Dr. Martens to me.
-
just kidding. You gotta be from Southern California and familiar with the news anchors to get that.

"New Nightmare" Design- 2nd thoughts- I thought it was striking
by scott2tune
I was hoping New Nightmare would re-energized the series. I remember seeing this as a double feature with Pulp Fiction in Lakewood, CA.
-
Good Ol' JR would be proud.
-
This does not give me any feels, except wanting to take a mean dump. Freddy isn't scary at all. It gives the feeling of a lame dog and you just want to put it out of its misery. I have no doubt that Jackie Earle Haley will make a great Freddy, but this make-up will ruin the performance. Wow. What little hope there was for this movie to be decent just went down the crapper. Damn, just ANOTHER movie to avoid.
-
Looks like the Cat Lady and/or Mickey Rourke to me. I could have gone as this for Halloween, all I would have to do was pour hot coffee on my face.
-
That said, I still don't understand how a dead person's skin can heal so he looks like a realistic burns victim. Shouldn't he look freshly burned like when he died? Or do they have good burns surgeons in the afterlife?
-
He SHOULD have freshly burned skin, rather than looking like he's had plastic surgery to fix the burns as best as he can. I don't think they considered that when doing this. He's dead. He doesn't GET reconstructive surgery!
-
wow! Didn't see that one coming!
-
that rediculous "open scar" on his left cheek. I was hoping for something a little more "Harvey Two Face", but instead we got Rum Tum Tugger. Haley's face ALONE would have been better (check him out in Shutter Island).
-
Seriously, it was really pointless. The new ideas like the "Micronaps" were cool. The added deaths and the lead up to investigating what Freddy did was cool. And oddly the Nightmare Map was interesting. BUT, the script loses it when it includes certain deaths from the original, but doesn't include the little things that made the original work. The finale is also really fucking corny and the same thing that happened in Halloween Resurrection - hitting the killer while yelling "This is for (insert name of dead person here)" is fucking lame. To remove the resourcefulness of Nancy and making her not build booby traps to kill Freddy is a mistake. It worked in the original because she was smart enough to use her time staying awake figuring out how to kill him. This script she just follows the male lead and goes through the motions until she reaches the end.
-
NECA already had the pic removed from www.figures.com. Lawyer's email to AICN in 3, 2, 1...
-
or whatever they're supposed to be. Not really into the fact he doesn't have a mouth though, but I suppose that's more due to the way JEH's features are. Overall, it's kinda strange but I think I'll get used to it. I just hope he doesn't talk with that horrible lisp he had in the trailer throughout the film.
-
Burn victims are often rendered expressionless in the face, a homogenized ball of scarred flesh. We must remember that Freddy Krueger is a dream demon. He is evil and his look must reflect that. Unfortunately, they have not included the "evil" here and he appears bland or boring. Even with Jackie Earle Haley's performance, this design is a failure. A makeup artist rarely has the final say in the design. Producers are notorious for dumb ideas that actually harm the final product, therefore let us blame the producers. They also used the wrong sweater design in the film. And yes, the sweater is important. It proves that the producers didn't care enough to do their homework.
-
jesus h christ,is the remake a horror movie or a parody?? wtf?
-
i assume you're talking about the fact that in the first movie the sweater arms aren't striped and completely red? i agree that woulda made it more in tune with being a remake but since the stripes on the arms appeared in every other movie and is part of his iconic look, makes sense why they used it here. i mean hell, until the dvd release back in 1999 i had no clue his arms weren't striped because the VHS was so dark.
-
The DVD was way too bright where as the VHS kept Freddy almost completely hidden in shadow which made it ten times better IMO. Sometimes DVD doesnt improve a movie.

Here's what NewFreddy looks like in action...

It's one thing to see what Freddy looks like but it's a whole other thing to see the character in the movie and to see him move as well as the way that Haley will carry the role of Krueger. I don't hate the new look. It looks like more how a burn victim would look than the stylized look that Englund had in the other movies. I am quite curious to see this but I am not going with high expectations.

F*** this remake
-
But that's not really what Freddy looked like in the premiere screening I saw in LA a month or so ago. But there were some green spots on his face so maybe they were going to boost it up with CGI?
-
just how original that, uhhh... original design was. I mean, when you think about the fact that you got Michael Myers, Krueger, and Jason in a relatively short period of time, the 70's and 80's were just an UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE period for design in general... character design, production design, model design, costumes. It's like they hit that shit out of the park every time. And I mean down to the cartoons of the 80's... we're getting movies based upon them 20 years later not because of the fascinating stories, but because even in silly shows like Transformers and G.I. Joe, most of the characters are immediately original and striking and recognizable. Fucking shame we get what we get now... and if you look through most portfolios on a site like deviart, everything is repetitive and has either an anime or a Gears of War feel... just the same, shitty, non-differentiated characters over and over and over again. Awesome artists, just almost impossible to find anything immediately striking. Where's the talent to do this anymore?
-
reminds me of Tony Vortex...you know...because of the back story.
-
Making your dream demon look like a mole rat with downs syndrome, not exactly the smartest move, unless they really are trying to majorly play up the whole 'sympathy for the devil' angle. Wait and see I guess, but still, not exactly encouraging, is it?
-

I have no love for this, but are we really going to judge...
by filmcoyote
the look of the villain based on a toy design? You don't get much of an idea from the footage seen so far and if they play it like Craven did in the original (as they should) we'll mostly see him in shadow, silhouette etc not in close-ups like in the sequels. I expect the film to suck because, unlike Friday the 13th, this is in the Halloween school of perfect originals. They can't match it why try? The Friday the 13th boys were okay because they weren't working from anything much beyond a cool villain and nostalgia.
-
Except for when they actually became Dream Warrior's. It turned into power rangers towards the end.
-
Cause, if you think about it, the original Freddy design wasn't burn victim (cause his face would be more melted) it looked like he had been slashed up with a razor. This looks like he's been melted together in the face. And he's a retard.

by takingscorpioscalls
The hat was actually the one classy thing.

Take any line of dialogue said by Deputy Doofy in the first SCARY MOVIE and put it over a shot of Robert Englund's Freddy from any of the movies. Doesn't work, does it? Now take any line of dialogue from Deputy Doofy and put it over this image. Works great. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you your moron.
-
Freddy actually LOOKS like a burn victim, which is cool for a change (because in the original series, he certainly didn't). No matter HOW bad the remake is, it's definitely NOT going to be worse than Nightmare 4, 5 and Freddy's Dead were, I know that much for damn sure.
-
I mean, I know that seeing a purposely well lit picture of an inanimate object that represents an animate living entity that will be lit appropriately and will be given nuance and depth by the very virtue that is a moving object and will be placed in sets and on location can't possibly represent what it will look like on film but I hate things so much that I judge this and find that it sucks because it does!
