Figures in grey represent repeats.

* With sexy goth “NCIS” forensics gal Abby crossing over into “NCIS LA” last night, both series had a good night, with the latter enjoying its biggest audience since its premiere.

* The “Dancing With The Stars” finale gave the series easily its best rating of the season, though it was down 16% from last year’s closer. “So You Think You Can Dance” hit a season low against the other dance show’s big Osmond-Osbourne finish.

* “V” halted its slide in 18-49. A promo at the end of last episode indicated the series would be back in March, and there’s little reason to doubt that now. As reported three weeks ago, it resumes production after Thanksgiving with a new showrunner in “Chuck” writer/producer Scott Rosenbaum.

* FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” hit a season low.

* “Leno” is maintaining the pace that kept it above a 1.5 average last week.

    by rhuragh

And hopefully FX keeps that under consideration, especially considering this week's episode was incredible. As far as V goes...it's not a very good show. The political commentary is weak, cliche, and muddled. If they cancel it, I certainly won't miss it.

I don't think any of their other shows gets as good as ratings. Weird rating considering how bad ass the episode was. Hale once again finds away to fuck things up. I have little hope of that everyone gets out alive next week. For all intensive purpose the League is dead even with Mayan help Zo Bell is fucked. He goes to prison, the Nazi will make him his bitch.

The original V (from what I recall, I haven't seen it in a LONG time) did exactly what good science fiction does: political commentary. It was laden with commentary on fascism and authoritarianism. Oh, and bad acting. It would have been nice if they could have updated it like Moore did with BSG (hey, there's a thought, hire RDM to run V) and added some really intelligent, perceptive, and erudite political commentary, but so far all I've seen has been ham-handed George Lucas level commentary for retards.

You're seriously going to tell me that RoTS didn't have infantile political commentary shoe-horned into the plot with a line like, "So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause." Or how about this conversation between Anakin and Obi-Wan: Obi-Wan: "Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy." Anakin: "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy." Please, try again, douchebag.

    by rhuragh

And this is exactly why the new V is terrible. The people who are scared of vaccines are stupid and ignorant morons who probably go to their Doctor (if they can even afford one) and ask for antibiotics (reread that word, it has a special meaning) when they inevitably catch the flu. And yes, they clearly "owned" universal health care. Why is it that Conservatives are only willing to debate the health care systems in Canada, France, and the U.K.? Here's another interesting question. I can name literally dozens of countries, including some third world nations, that have better, and government run _universal_, health care systems than the U.S. Can you name a single nation that relies on a free-market health care system that is as successful as the top "socialized" (eeeekkk!!! socialismatists are going to destroy us!) systems? Yeah, you can't, because it's impossible. No such nation exists. And speaking of socialized health care...if socialized health care is so terrible (and a threat to the survival of the nation's democracy, according to a Republican Congressman), what's up with the 83 million Americans already covered by a Government plan (mainly, Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, and the VA)? Is our military's health care system destroying Amurka? How about Medicare? Just like The Unit, V presents it's sociopolitical commentary in the laziest form of conservative "reasoning," if such a term can even be applied to what passes for conservative rhetoric these days.

Come on, SoA was only down .1...

    by stegman84

...and on a big holiday week at that, which to me says it's pretty damn stable and has retained it audience all season long, with those that don't catch it first run one week or another catching a repeat. I don't think the show is in any danger at all of not being renewed personally. Anyway another great episode this week, and yeah, I noticed Biker Lem this week as well, looks like him and Tig have some bad blood too...ah, the life of a tv biker, eh? Wonder if he'll outlast Dutchboy on the show...Hmmm, wonder who the next Shield alum will be? Chiklis doesn't seem to have had a job since Eagle Eye came out and The Shield ended, and his Fantastic Four franchise got burnt to dust, so he doesn't have that to fall back on now either, so maybe he'll pop up on SoA in some capacity...

    by br1947

fluctuations of .1 on an overnight rating mean NOTHING. It's a little thing called "margin of error" that happens when something is based on polling, which Nielsen ratings are. Now if something drops or gains .3 or more night to night, thats a little significant.

The other is the fact it started fast and grinded to hault. Its predictable they will never really stop the Visitors til the last season. The show will get to March and die. V and SoA

    by fzammetti

V started out as completely craptacular in my opinion... an utterly pale comparison to the original and not especially good in its own right. The good news however is it seems to me to be getting a little bit better each work. Oh, it's still pretty lousy... and I'm on the fence about whether it's a waste of my time or not (Anna's daughter makes it worth watching for me though!)... but, I'm at least feeling like I'll continue to watch it, but maybe just barely.

SoA is one of the best shows going right now, I can't wait for each week. It's funny, my wife and I are as far from bikers as you could possibly get but we're totally into it... I pointed out to my wife that we are rooting for bad people... killers, gun runners, even sort of drug dealers (to the extent that they're willingly dealing with drug dealers sometimes)... these are people you would loathe in real life, yet here we are totally rooting for them! Very much like The Sopranos in that regard. Great show though overall.

I think you're having a hard time having an intelligent discussion with modern conservatives because you bring nothing to the table except what the media constantly repeats, which is exactly how the left is "flipping out," like it always does: through bad reviews and setting the premise for what "good" is. No one in the real word cares what fringe websites like the Daily Kos and Democratic Underground are saying.

I mean that argument is like saying that music has a rich history of social protest and heartfelt meaning, during a debate over the latest Britney Spears song. Just because a genre or medium sometimes accomplishes great things that doesn't mean that everything in the genre is great or meaningful or reveals some greater truth. Most things really just are what they are. But no, hey, I'm sure a remake of the show about invading space lizards is really the great social and political allegory of our time. that was an actual line from the show. The hot alien chick was doing an interview with the journalist, and she says "we want to heal all humans", and the journalist says "you mean universal health care??" and at the same time they were showing the guys who were meeting to organize against the aliens getting killed. It was pretty obvious. My own feelings about health care are actually opposite to how the show seems to portray it (and I don't have a problem with a sci-fi show doing commentary about society, I'm just saying, the show is pro-conservative).

Plus why is it your medicines actually work ? And they're cheap ! We stock up every time we visit, you don't know how lucky you are folks

    I'm a little confused...

    by samsquanch

Why is health care bad? Honest question. What will it erode/destroy? Apparently there are longer waiting lists with health care. Ok, aren't there waiting lists already? Besides, if I had the choice to either wait a few months before being treated for a problem that wasn't going to kill me, or waiting a few weeks and paying tens of thousands of dollars, I think I'd wait. I know it's never that simple, but seriously, I'm just asking, wouldn't it be better? I really don't understand why some people think they'll all be shipped off to concentration camps if some kind of health care plan is implemented. Where is the evidence for such a claim?

  • ... to the rest of us with private insurance, we will still get better service. Universal Health care is covering those who have no coverage AND is forcing the private insurers to be more competetive since they will no longer have a lock on the market. Even the stupid conservatives should realize competetition is a GOOD thing to the people.

    The Problem with V...

    by midnightxpress

...isn't so much the totally obvious political messages, as any show about a resistance in the US will come across as anti-administration, no matter which Party is in office. No, the real; problem is that the Vs are sooooo dull as villians. In the original, the aliens were back stabbing, ego maniacs driven by lust and power. In this they are all about as interesting and menacing as tax accountants. That said Elizabeth Mitchell is uber hot in it as the main Fed.

"No longer have a lock on the market"

    by himbo

You mean the masses that will be compelled to purchase a mandatory 'policy' whether they want to or not. That's not a lock? There is no such thing as a free lunch. Where there any possibility of profit in the kind of policies being considered, a competitive marketplace would have already emerged. Also, more consumers chasing a restrictive good drives the prices UP, not down.Read the Atlantic (Sept 2009 issue) to get a good view of why the current proposals will not reduce the cost of health care.

and don't forget, they fucking ate rats! I loooved that. Yeah, there are some improvements, but they just don't seem 'alien' to me at all. We've seen, what, exactly 3 seconds and about two inches of exposed reptilian flesh? I was hoping in this last episode... SPOLIER ALERT... when they 'skinned' the V, we would see SOMETHING. a dead arm, half a face, something. Nope. I'm sorry, but if you have a show about invading space lizards, I WANT TO SEE SOME SPACE LIZARDS. So far, my interest is waning. No laser guns, no rat-eating, no red jumpsuits, no sunglasses, and no naked reptillian ass. FAIL

    So Himbo

    by samsquanch

the government is going to force people to buy something? What if they don't have any money? Will they repo your car? Your house? Will you have to serve a mandatory jail sentence of 30 days if you simply don't have the money? Is this where the concentration camp talk comes from?

I've not read the concentration camp talk you assert, but the tax penalties are spelled out clearly in Title V of the bill the house passed. Those requirement also dovetail with the presidential address to the joint session of Congress.
Additionally, the Senate bill would raise the deductibility threshold to 10% from the current 7.5%. In real terms, the last two years I was able to deduct a couple thousand dollars in medical bills that I paid out of pocket. The new Senate proposal will effectively eliminate that. So raise the tax on the bills folks CAN and do pay themselves in order to fund insurance.
The easiest/quickest means of allowing insurance purchase would be subsidization of purchase of insurance premiums through tax credits, which is a practice currently allowed to displaced workers of select industries. Some states allow the simple deduction of health care premiums from adjusted income. A credit to the tune of the $3000/person the government claims it pays per person would go a long way to achieving coverage for the uninsured, with a minimal increase in the required bureaucracy. And THAT could be still be implented for tax year 2009. Not a perfect solution, but the proposed plans do not propose 100% coverage either, and would take YEARS to implement.
I'll say no more on healthcare, but will gladly join you in decrying the lack of crazy-ass lizards on V. To me they all resemble smug Mac enthusiasts.

Leno's Audience Will Grow and Grow

    by thusspakespymunk

He's going to slide at first, but as people get into the routine they will come back again and again, and soon enough you'll even see other networks copying the model. If you want to know how to predict stuff the Spymunk way, just think of it like this: think of the dumbest, most ridicolus, most anti-artistic, anti-human, anti-quality, anti-intelligent choice people could make (in this case, "watching LENO") and that is what human beings in America will do. It works EVERY time. "Well, what's the outright dumbest thing American people could do in this situation?" "Watch LENO!" Hence my prediction.).

    EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT

    by thusspakespymunk

I swear to GOD, who does not exist, that I tried to watch EFC for like four times, and every fucking time I tuned in there was nothing on screen but a dude sitting in a damn chair talking to a human who looked like he fell through a time portal from another show - a bad detective show set in New York. Was that the whole show? Did it ever leave the fucking room with the Alien Toilet Chair? Because I swear to god the alien was sitting in that chair every damn scene. He had to be taking a shit or something, it had to be a necessity.

    FFS enough political bullshit!

    by maniaq

someone says "universal healthcare" does not automatically make a show IN ANY WAY fucking political - I don't give a flying rats arse fuck what pointless debate is going on in your country, GET THE FUCK OVER THAT SHIT!
the lizards want their frozen meals to be nice and disease free - GET IT?
    enough fucking said already!
I'm more interested in how a pile that is really starting to steam now can be saved from a slow painful death in BORING Alien Toilet Chair World - some thoughts:
is it too late to recast Juliet's son? by his own confession-
    http://shrunklink.com/dpjt
    - the kid can't act...
is Anna's right hand man gonna turn out to be John May? that's kinda lame and cliche'd - could only possibly be worse if he turns out to be Anna, using him as a tool to root out traitors...
I vote for someone we haven't seen yet - in the form of Marc Singer
also, looks like they want to make us like - or at least sympathise with - the kid when he finds out he's been manipulated - JUST LET US HATE HIM OK?
I recently rewatched They Live and the part about people willingly going along with them made me think how V seems to be going in the opposite direction right now, showing us more protesters and the like, as opposed to collaborators - which once again comes back to doing something INTERESTING with the Tyler character...
    did I mention lasers?
what the fuck is happening with the reporter?? can he DO SOMETHING that makes us care about him one way or another - I get that this rather convenient aneurysm is meant to provoke something but WHAT exactly? if he is being set up to be a Mike Donovan to expose the rat-eating-lizard conspiracy on live-tv I want to do more than groan whenever he comes on...
are they ditching the Scientist persecution with time around? will they have ANY scapegoats - what was up with the fake assassination attempt then?
I hope now that things have been set in motion we can get moving on trimming some of the fat off this show and bringing back some of the badass coolness we've all been missing
-coz right now Anna could flash a tit and I could be so bored I miss it

Universal Health Care (V vs. Real Life)

    by _maltheus_

On V, universal health care is free, and therefore isn't a left-right issue because no conservative has a problem with free anything.
In real life, universal heath care can only come through taxes (ie. armed theft), running up our credit cards and destroying the dollar. That's why the comparison is nonsensical. It was just a glib line from a reporter that has had entirely too much read into it.
