    by shutupfanboy

If it does a 1.5 then I can see it getting renewed or give them momeny for more Smallville movies. The real problem is the shit they are doing now should have been season 7 and 8 instead ruining the Doomsday mythos as well as being stupid enough to sign a Supergirl for only one season then focus the entire season around her while keeping her alive. It also didn't help that Lana came back for no reason who with Doomsday/Chloe de-railed season 8. Season 7, they should have put him in the suit and help the League.

Smallville's ratings have been up all season long. The only reason they went down slightly this past Friday? Two words: New Moon. Also, it's annoying to never hear about Smallville on AICN unless it's the near-comical pouncing of this web site on bad news for the series. Even when the ratings went up, it was spun negatively...and now that they went the other way, the article says "Smallville Down!", which almost reads as a celebratory statement. As a supporter of the series, it's freakin' annoying.

    by jimbojones123

If they are never actually goiing down that road, why bother to set up a fake future. I have heard "best episode of Smallville EVER" lots since Friday, but if the entire premise is abandoned by the end of the episode, who cares. This is no different from FutureHiro on Heroes. We get a glimpse at what the show has the ability to be, then it is the reset button AGAIN, so who cares???

watching that (what i think was an awesome) episode of smallville, a few things stood out to me:First, I think alot of us have noticed the LOOK of the show under these new showrunners--particularily the cinematography and especially the color schemes of different locations. They were really clever in this episode: They had the torn, black, superman S shirt blowing in the wind like a flag that was right out of the comic--the clever part is that they used the red son and color balance to actually make the shirt look like a red cape--its the little things like that which does justice to the character of superman.Second, THANK GOD, we have not really seen an episode where a character sees clark using his powers but then get knocked on the noggin and forget that they learned clark'ssecret... seriously, how many times did the old showrunners use this complete and total cop-out and repetitive use of this tired plot device? the old showrunners seemed convinced that it made for great tv... even in this future episode, the new showrunners STILL didn't let lois discover clark was the blur, EVEN THOUGH they had an absolutely perfect excuse for how they could have pulled it out, but instead they used clever writing and didn't take the easy and obvious way out. even if they did, this episode still would have dominated anything from the first seven yearsThird: The old showrunners used other superheroes (cyborg, impulse, aquaman) in episodes, some of which were great, but ultimately they worked as a gimmick. The new showrunners used Legion, but what makes that use of characters from the comics different than how the old guys did things, was that the legion ring actually SET UP a whole story arc for this season... without the ring this awesome story arc could have never even got started.Fourth: Clark GOING FOR IT! Within seconds of kissing Lois, what does clark do? Goes straight for the shirt--he WENT FOR IT. In the past, they would have stopped kissing to talk about their feelings. Fifth, anyone notice the plot twist? That ninja chick girl has powers that come from the yellow sun... who is she? why is she different? Very good set up for whats to come later this season. GREAT EPISODE. Superman fans should be loving this... particularily superman comics fans.

    by mgthedj

Last Friday was the second episode. The lame bible ep with the crazy chick from "Rescue Me" was to ep. 4 or 6. USA always does this in the first season. I swear they let some brain-damaged refugee from NBC Prime-Time pick the episode order in the first season of a new show. If it's a hit, they let episodes run in their proper order starting with season 2. I think they did the same thing to "Psych" its first year, and I know they did it with "In Plain Sight."------later-----m

If anything, the doomsday arc SET UP the doomsday mythos. You know where doomsday came from right before getting loose and going on his rampage? Deep in the fucking ground--which is exactly where clark put him.You might even consider that the mythos was destroyed because doomsday didn't kill clark... now THAT would be fucking up the mythos. Now, i had serious problems with season eight--the lana arc was atrocious. But I give them a pass because they had such a shitty show that they needed to turn around, so i understand its a bumpy road, but they've found their stride now, if you ask me.

Jimbo--there are many reasons why they chose to do the future episode and why it works. First, it reveals that zod and his soldiers get their powers from a red son--we didn't know that. SEcond, it reveals what Zod is planning to build that would create the red son. Third, stopping Zod's plan can only happen if they know what it is. Now that they know, they can stop it. Heroes, on the other hand, did what? OH, Hiro needs to teleport right in front of sylar and kill him with a sword? (when they could have done it with any weapon) That whole future episode of heroes was POINTLESS because it didn't help the characters AT ALL. Any idiot can say 'why doesn't hiro just stab sylar with his sword with time stopped?' And they'd be right. That same idiot, along with the smarter viewers coudl NEVER have said, (before this episode) JUST STOP ZOD FROM GETTING THE BUILDING THAT WILL TURN THE SUN RED ALREADY! Because nobody could have possibly predicted that scenario--that's why the smallville future episode dominates the heroes future episode--because it actually progressed the plot in a way we couldn't have predicted... can't say the same for the heroes episode.

They didn't even know what Zod needed to get the powers (the red son). Also, keep in mind that it was LOIS who was sent back in time to stop this--Future clark never went back.

    by silentgunman

I don't think the Heroes concept works as a TV series. I'd like to see NBC do two things with Heroes: 1. Fire Kring and get a showrunner who knows what he's doing, and 2. Use the model that Doctor Who used this year: 3 to 4 specials spread out over the calendar year with more focus on a couple of characters, say Peter and Hiro.

    by yackbacker

Is that they take 20 episodes to tell a story that could (and should) be told within a 3 or 4 episode arc. They move at a snail's pace. And there are no good payoffs for the long wait either.

    "Smallville"

    by my pretty pony

As some have already pointed out, SV obviously lost viewers because many of them were lined up to watch "New Moon" on Friday night. I fully expected the ratings to go down for that reason. It's too coincidental that the ratings had been going up for weeks and suddenly dropped the same week NM opened. "Pandora" was a pretty outstanding episode. I love all the Zod stuff, Tess is great and so was bad ass Chloe. It's good to see so much of Oliver/Green Arrow this season and I also like how they're just going for it w/ Lois and Clark. I honestly thought that we'd never see them as a couple on this show. I figured that they'd just keep hinting at it until the very end. Glad to see that I was wrong.

Of course, Pandora had Lois learning Clark's secret in the future, and then having her memories wiped by Chloe. But I supposed she wasn't knocked on the head, so that doesn't count.
And how the heck does the Kryptonian Clark having powers under a yellow sun but not a red sun, and the Kryptonian Kandorians have powers under a red sun but not a yellow sun, make any sense whatsoever?

    Smallville Season 10

    by packofredapples

Season 10 is going to happen. LOST was negotiated to have its story end at season 6 and that has allowed the writers to really ramp things up. The CW would be crazy not to say "okay we got one more, this is THE FINAL SEASON of SMALLVILLE. If ONE show other than LOST has a more anticipated ending, it's Smallville. He's going to become Superman for Christ's sake (no pun intended). It would be a TERRIBLE marketing plan to NOT heavily promote this event.

If they make Season 9 the last, the first half of the season is going to be looked back on as lost money because they didn't promote it as THE FINAL SEASON. That's what grabs viewers.

Season 10 will happen and it will have some of the highest ratings for the CW if marketed as Clark FINALLY becoming SUPERMAN.

    Looked nice, less filling

    by gislef_crow

Yes, the cinematography with Smallville is nice. And the actors actually... act.
But showing a bunch of people imaginary-dying (Tess, Oliver, Chloe), just isn't very dramatic or awe-inspiring. It's like the comic book "We'll kill somebody off for drama, and bring them back." aka "Jean Gray Sydrome."
Also a lot of weak points. How does Clark find Zod and his people at the end? If it was that freakin' easy, what's been keeping him in the two episodes since Zod... you know, killed Clark's (clone) father?
And Chloe as not just hard-ass, but a pointless killer, and a dumb one. She's dealing with super-powered soldiers, so she wastes the time and a kryptonite arrow to kill the one un-powered soldier present. Dum dum dum dum dum. She's also getting into Lana levels of secrets-and-lies passive-aggressive: "Yes, Clark, I'm keeping secrets and lying to you. But how dare you accuse me of... mistakenly keeping secrets and lying to you? You can think of an apology later." Say what?

Clark's finding of ZOD can be chalked up to him knowing enough about his future to track him down in the past. He's got x-ray vision bud.

And Chloe at least has a reason for keeping secrets. I like to compare her to a mother who tries desperately to make her kids go to ivy league schools.

    Clark finding Zod

    by gislef_crow

But Clark didn't see anything in the future that would tell him where to find Zod. In the future, Zod was hang out at the Luthor manor, and he ain't there in the present (that's why Tess used Jor-El to try and find the major). And Zod was hanging out at the Kent farm. As far as x-ray vision, sure... but why did it take Clark two weeks to think to use it?
What reason does Chloe have to keep secrets from Clark? Particularly given how well that worked out last year when she kept secrets from Clark about Davis... and Jimmy ended up dead.

Zod and his people are clones, manufactured kryptonians. That is why the yellow sun has no effect on them. Why the red sun has an effect on them, though, we are not 100% sure of. Perhaps because of the crystal/device Jor El hid in the Kent house... stay tuned!

    smallville and heroes

    by seamusberen

Last week's SV was great and I can't add anything to the complimentary words about this re-invented, revived, and renewed show which is simply spectacular. But I will point out an article of about a year ago on the FIVE REASONS WHY SMALLVILLE IS BETTER THAN HEROES. Check it out at: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/smallville/five-reasons-why-smallville-is-24244.aspx#comments

Gislef_crow said: Of course, Pandora had Lois learning Clark's secret in the future, and then having her memories wiped by Chloe. But I supposed she wasn't knocked on the head, so that doesn't count."No. Think about it--at what point did lois see clark's powers? she didn't, and it was clever how they managed that. Tell me EXACTLY when lois learned clark had powers. All she saw of clark in the future was that he had incredible amounts of courage and tried so hard to be heroic.
"And how the heck does the Kryptonian Clark having powers under a yellow sun but not a red sun, and the Kryptonian Kandorians have powers under a red sun but not a yellow sun, make any sense whatsoever?"THAT'S THE MYSTERY! They can't answer everything in this episode... there's still half a season left!

Gislef_crow said: "But Clark didn't see anything in the future that would tell him where to find Zod."WEre you stoned during the episode? or are you just trying to be overly critical? (but that is your right). THE EPISODE WASN'T ABOUT FINDING ZOD! It was about learning his plan! STopping zod's plan is by far the most important part of the plot... not finding where he is.

"Stop and think for a second--the reason the buildings got made was because no one in that future knew what they were going to do. They didn't even know what Zod needed to get the powers (the red son). Also, keep in mind that it was LOIS who was sent back in time to stop this--Future clark never went back."Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that since Clark was also hooked up to the machine he saw what Lois saw. Everything about the towers being the source of Zod's powers comes from that. They didn't know in the future, but now that Lois has gone to the future, they now know it in the present. My point was in regards to the conversation Clark has with Chole at the end of the episode. He says in the future he went up against Zod and it turned out badly so now he thinks the best way to stop him is to save him from himself. At no point (unless I missed it) does anyone in the room suggest maybe just stopping Tess & Zod from building the Kandorian Towers of Power is the best way to go. After all, in the future, the way to stop Zod was to disable the device in the towers. Therefore, in the present, I would think the best way to keep Zod from getting his powers and taking over the world is to make sure the towers never get built in the first place.

Like Shorts said this Zod and his soilders are clones that were meant to continue the Kryptonian race incase anything catastophic happebs to Krypton, which of course it does due to the real Zod. Their DNA was stored in a Kryptonian artifact created by Jor El, it was basically an ark. Jor El fears what a bunch of soidlders would do on eather given the powers theywouls have under the yellow sun so he uses blue kryptonite to alter their DNA so when the clones were released on Earth they would be powerless like normal humans. Krypton had a red sun, whe Zod's solar tower did what ever it did to the sun that is what stripped Clark of his power. As for the explination as to why Zod and crew had powers under a red sun it is probably a side effect of Jor El's genetic manipulation. It stands to reason that the blue Kryptonoe reversed a genetic switch in the Kryptonian DNA giving them powers under a red sun instead of yellow.

    I'm totally guessing here, but...

    by triple_j_72

...I think that when Lois wakes up, she won't remember all her adventures with "The Blur," or falling in love with Clark. All she'll remember is the last time she saw him, with the glasses on. Just a shot in the dark. Gotta wait till friggin' JANUARY to find out... sheesh...

well done with that heroes analysis. said it all. (no sarcasm) But I want to add, if they had an epic season one finale and kept upping the stakes with the scope of the show, originality or well-stolen comic material, over the course of these past three seasons, then season one would have looked alot better. the show got so awful (to the point of literally insulting the viewer) that it makes season one looks awful, it also makes season one worse because its a painful reminder of how fucking awesome it could have been if kring wasn't a pretensious douchebag who doesn't give a shit about what the core of his show is--superheroes. this is the rare instance where i want to see a show cancelled--yes its terrible and i hate it, but that's not why i want it cancelled. I want it cancelled so someone who knows what the fuck he's doing (with a show involving superpowers) and has a true vision that grabs us all from the first episode with a (supernatural-esque) five year plan can get a superhero show right. You tell me five years ago thyat smallville would be better than heroes by miles and miles and i'd never take you seriously... of course, if hiro came and visited me from the future telling me how thigns will be, i wouldn't take him seriously... in large part because kring has made a real effort to keep the viewer from ever being able to take hiro seriously... like, ever.

    Smallville still going strong tho!

    by drsambeckett1984

It has just been an amazing season, it is literally like watching a different show. The leap in quality is astonishing.

I wonder how they are going to do Green Lantern, probably wont be a big part, just a fan teasing cameo.

I thought i was done with that show and you've pulled me back in. Fuck you all. I'm likeing Callum Blue as Zodd. He does a very good evil smile which gives him extra points in my book. Villains with evil smiles are better villains according to an official poll conducted by me on a pool of one person.

    Smallville again

    by gislef_crow

Lois saw Clark dropkick Zod a few hundred feet into a van. Hence, seeing he has powers.
Clark didn't need to know what Zod looked like. He's looking for a bunch of guys and gals with Kandorian family crests.
So Jor-El treated the non-human "abomination" clones with blue kryptonite... and didn't realize that would give them superpowers on Krypton under a red sun? Okay, ot-nay oo-tay art-smay.
If finding Zod wasn't as important as figuring out what his plan was... then why was the first thing that Clark did after seeing memories of the future was... find Zod? Rather than waiting until the tower starts to get built and then approach him/stop the construction?

Smallville is great, who cares how old Tom Welling is, Clark is meant to be in his mid twenties now anyway, how old were half the cast of Buffy when they were meant to be teenagers for christ sake!

Smallville is one of the best things on tv at the moment, a thousand times better than dross like Lost and Heroes!

Yes I want Clark to fly, but it isnt the most important aspect of the show, it is a different take on the mythology, therefore does not have to conform to all the stuff that went before, its an original take on Superman's life!

I agree with you that "Smallville" is one of the most surprisingly improved shows this season and that its waaaay better than "Heroes". (No comparison whatsoever.) I disagree with you on "LOST". Though Smallville and LOST have two of the most annoying characters in Lana Lang and Kate Austin. Lana was never likable to me while Kate at one time was.
