It may have more to do with the feed. The DVD mixes are fine. I think it's either the arbitrary stereo surround sound DirecTV (or your cable provider) or Cartoon Network spits out.

    by megatom5

But they can't get Brock back? Seriously they need to kill off Hatred I never really liked him from the get go and being the boys' body guard makes no sense from any perspective. This season has been pretty funny though for the most part. I always like how they do keep a connection with other older cartoon shows.

    by jameskpolk

Seriously. Taking a break from the same story dynamic is a good thing. How many shows hammered a single character into more and more ridiculous storylines just because the writers thought the character was "popular" with fans. I quit watching the Simpsons because they quit doing feature stories with side characters like rev Lovejoy and Apu. Seeing Homer meet a new celebrity of the week killed that show for me. Let's let Brock's storyline rest for a bit. When he comes back we'll all appreciate him more.

    by linguo_is_dead

Season 3 just started with 30-minute episodes and it manages to actually be funny the whole time. Venture Bros. needs to move to 15-minute segments, because it's lack of plot can't hold a half-hour of funny.

And screw Brock. Patrick Warburton thinks he's some sort of voiceover guro...Frank Oz not you are!!!

    by johnnyclash

Metalocalypse is pretty awesome. However, it would be a huge mistake to cut the Venture Bros down to 15 (really 12) minutes. There is a lot of crap on Adult Swim, a good show like VB needs to take up every minute it can.

Not agreeing with the negative posts. This is still the best comedy on TV for my money, and one of the few reasons I keep cable.

I think some of the best episodes ever were the last 2 of season 1, leading into the first 2 of season two. However I wouldn't say there has been any significant drop-off in caliber, maybe just not such a fantastic streak of episodes in a row.

To all the disappointed voices out there, sorry that you are not finding your bliss. Maybe tonight will offer you something.

I offer this list to anyone who thinks that season 3 was sub par. Not saying that anyone's point of view isn't valid or that my taste is the true meter of quality.
Just damn.... these were fucking good episodes... IMHO

303 - "The Invisible Hand of Fate"
313,314 - "The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together (Part I&II)"
    302- "The Doctor Is Sin"
    305 - "The Buddy System"
    310 - "The Lepidopterists"
    308 - "Tears of a Sea Cow"
301 - "Shadowman 9: In the Cradle of Destiny"

... I think that collection is as good a sample as one good pull from season 1 or 2.

    Concept vs Execution

    by yourstepdaddy

I love the show, but I find it now to be up to the same caliber... now I only re-watch it cuz it was confusin but not cuz it was cool or funny... 1st and 2nd season was great, that ep wit the Fantastic 4 and bullhorn alien, Dean gettin married to Underbeit, that 4 way date, and Brock just goin ape shit...
The past 2 seasons however, seem to focus on buildin mythlogy unnaturally...like they shoehorn in chars just so in a next season, we get to see why they sorta make sense in their universe. And all the cool chars are not bein utilized like they were used to like Monarch, Orpheus, and DrGF. I have no prob Brock bein away, but this pedophile wit a heart full of gold (and a apparently a penis covered in d), is not helpin the show at all! bring back the greatness dammit! and stop makin me use wikipedia to understand a single episode plot...

    Your complaints have been anticipated.

    by fracturedlojak

It's obvious from the structure of the 4th season that they've anticipated these complaints:

    1. Sgt. Hatred was shot and netted at the end of this week's episode -> The boys are obviously sick of his BS, as are we.

    2. The absence of Brock? How did this episode start? With Rusty running in fear for his life (how often have you really seen the expression of fear on his face?) and actually being captured by the Monarch. With Brock around, that would not have happened -> it is obvious that the Venture's NEED Brock. This is smart writing.

Frankly, I'm impressed, and I wrote television and film reviews in radio and print before the internet. Booya, bitches.

    Guys...I get the 'Hatred' hate...

    by cheif brody

But c'mon...the irony is palpable...a known 'reformed' pedo-freak quits the Guild to become caretaker of two teen boys? Their clue-less, self-absorbed father has no problem with it?
I think Doc and Publick are commenting on all of the weird 'villains' from the Johnny Quest/Batman who committed their lives to 'luring' & 'capturing' characters like Johnny and Robin the Boy Wonder, and how all that weird shit might affect these 'evil geniuses' later in life....or even their trusted caretakers like Captain Sunshine. I mean...watch Frank Gorshin or Ceasar Romero oogling Burt Ward tied up and in his gay little suit from the old Batman series. Wonder Boy's line last nite "Why is it I can only get an erection when I'm tied to a chair" was evidence that they are exploring how all these crazy scenarios might impact not only the 'wards' but the 'sidekicks and villains' years later. Let's face it...there was always an underlying 'creepy' vibe to all of it. And exploring the 'creepy' of all these childhood favorites is what Venture Brothers is all about!
They spent three years showing us how Dr. Venture has had to deal with the 'trauma' of growing up a 'boy adventurer' with an absentee dad. Now their focusing on the other side of the coin. Hatreds years of arching led him down an unfortunate and creepy path in his later years...just as Action Johnny's sorted past led him to some weird places. (God, I loved that he was stealing the therapist's Rx pad last nite!).
So, while I'm not defending a serious subject like pedophilia done for comedy purposes...I think TPTB were simply TIRED of retreading Rusty's conflict with his past and wanted to explore how the other side of the coin has dealt with their younger days...and obviously...they also are not having the best of times reconciling their past.
Have they run the joke into the ground? Absolutely...But I have a feeling it was run into the ground on PURPOSE. Sgt. Hatred's days are numbered. They had to write a way that Sgt Hatred HAS to 'exit stage left'...so the great and awesome Brock Samson can return to take care of the boys again. We all know Hatred is not worthy of the job despite his 'urges'.
I would not be surprised if Hatred agrees to enter rehab, thus causing the need for Brock to return.
They have been purposely building a void this season for two characters by focusing on Hatred & others...the return of Brock...and the return of 24.
Things will be back on track soon enough...but I definitely think last nite's episode was the END of the pedo storyline.
    GO TEAM VENTURE!!

    Hatred as one-note character

    by barryap

I don't mind the pedo schtick, but that's literally all he has. This show has some of the deepest characters on TV, so a one-note character like falls flat.

Sgt Hatred just kinda stomped into the storyline last season out of the blue like he owed the place.
Kind of like when 'Nikki & Paulo' tromped into LOST a couple of seasons back...and everyone was like 'Who the fuck are these idiots? And where the hell is John Locke?'.
The Nikki & Paulo fan hated was dealt with immediately (they actually got the creepiest death scene on LOST to date)...and I'm sure Hatred will be given a similar send off.
I'd be very happy to not see him again this season.

Hatred won't go away that quickly

    by shabbyblue

Any negative response from the fans won't immediately kill off Hatred. This isn't South Park. They can't come up with a new episode plot and animate it within a week's time. Whatever their original purpose of Hatred is for this season will proceed as planned since those episodes have already been through the animation process for MONTHS now and they can't change the direction of the storyline at the last minute to appease fans. So if something suddenly happens to Hatred to get rid of him, it's because they planned it that way beforehand and not because it's a response to fan negativity. Otherwise, fan complaints probably won't get rid of Hatred until next season.

I loved the ending of this one...

    by danielkurland

Where it is actually pretty obvious that the Monarch killed the therapist due to the beginning of the episode with Venture, but by the end, there is SO much going on, and you're so far removed from the original point, that this doesn't even cross your mind. It's great "mis-direction."

Hammer and Public like to go dark

    by inactionman

but, they may be over reaching in an attempt to top themselves.

Next season expect a character that is a necrophiliac, bestiality, pedophile. ie. a guy that likes to fuck dead baby animals.

    Two More To Go

    by rerushed

There are two more episodes before the season 4 "break". I bet the Sgt. Hatred arc is finished by then. Welcome back, Brock?

I know how unlikely it sounds, but with Urbaniak tweeting a pic of him in the booth panicking, and Hodgman too....I dunno. I've not read anything anywhere else about it, but for the moment I'm still siding with Urbaniak telling the truth.

    I know, Shabby...

    by cheif brody

We all know how LONG these things take to animate. I'm just saying...last nite's episode definitely felt like Hatred's curtain call. Not saying they could possibly kill him off immediately like South Park. Heck...it took lost half a season to kill off 'Nikki & Paulo'!
I'm just saying...perhaps his own NAME "Hatred" is an inside joke on us from Doc & Publick....perhaps they are reveling in how disgusting and annoying they can make the character in order to instill true hatred in all of us!

Hatred will last until the last episode this season

    by br1947

then in the last 30 seconds, Brock will come up behind him and slit his throat (for no apparent reason) in front of the boys then casually ask "Hey boys, how's it goin?"

get a good look at who was swimming in the pool during the flash back to Rusty's therapy with Jonas Sr. Was it Hector?

And the most pedophilia - centric show on TV is Hanna Montana.

Brock was banging Leslie in college, which was *well* over 20 years ago in the Ventureverse. Dermott is no more than 16.

Venture Brothers has become jumbled nonsense.

    by knowthyself

The last two seasons are just a mess. The more they try to create a mythology the worse it get's. They play episodes out of order simply because there is no other way for it to hold your interest. This show really has just gone to shit.

They played episodes out of order in the first and second seasons!

So far, so good this season, as far as I'm concerned.

    No thought to Dermott's mom

    by oknight

They were very clear in the commentaries-- when they came up with Dermott there was no idea about who his mother is -- no mystery, no significance, just one of the millions-- you don't see her because they'd have to do a character design for that.
