It’s Sarah Palin Week!! Will The Last SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Of Sweeps Bring Back Tina Fey??
I am – Hercules!!
Sarah Palin’s been everywhere this week promoting her score-settling memoir and slamming McCain campaign workers because they failed to warn her Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson would ask her a bunch of president-type questions (instead of hockey-mom-type questions).
Because Tina Fey is so busy both writing and starring in “30 Rock,” SNL boss Lorne Michaels has said long said if Palin were ever portrayed on the show again Kristin Wiig would likely inherit the role.
But who wants to see that? Plus it's sweeps, NBC is still in fourth place and "30 Rock" could use the promotion.
“GI Joe’s” Joseph Gordon Levitt hosts musical guest The Dave Matthews Band.

no
It's been worse
I kinda sorta remember DuckTales but think I might prefer Darkwing Duck.
Wasn't there one already? "Flash...awaaahhaaaa....savior of the universe"?
Veggie on Italian herbs and cheese? Nummy. -
Please make it stop!!! You have 3 other women in the cast, let them get more than 3 minutes of screen time. Kristin must give great blowjobs.
-
It hasn't been funny since ________
Left!
That's out of the way let's move on shall we? -
They should be worthy of them and be able to pull them off.
G'bless the new chick but Michaela Watkins pwned Hota Kotb. The noob can't even borrow that gig much less inherit it. -
However, MGTHEDJ is right to point out there are other women there. If they let them shine now and again they may prove their mojo and survive a season or two...rather than get cut loose after essentially sitting in the dugout all year.
-
How can it be in fourth place?! Is it losing to Wanda Sykes and reruns of King of Queens? And also, doesn't this information kinda nullify Herc's constant bragging that Jay Leno is fourth place, seeing as how he likes SNL? It's kinda like boasting that your worst enemy is trapped in a burning building, even though your best friend is in there with him.
-
Obama is bowing to foreigners, Holder is having OJ-type trials for terrorists, unemployment is through the roof, a huge majority of Democrats in Congress can't pass a health care bill and we're talking about roasting the former governor of Alaska? That's what's topical? Keeee-rist.
-
I've never understood the appeal.
-
i'll dvr and skim through this episode because joseph gordon-levitt is a good actor, hopefully the writers are on the ball tonight(doubtful). i wasnt aware jgl was in g.i. joe. i still dont want to see that movie

Jenny Slate DOES NOT need more airtime. She needs to be kicked to the curb and Michaela needs to be brought back. DO YOU HEAR ME MICHAELS? MICHAELA NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT BACK!!! If you can give Parnell a second shot, lord knows you can give her one. Her Hota Kotb and Barbara Walters were great. GREAT, I TELL YOU! GREAT, OTHERS HAVE TOLD YOU! WHY YOU DO THIS, LORNE? WHY??? You seriously think Slate is better than Watkins? Bitch please.
-
I have always been a fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Angels in the Outfield, 10 Things I hate about you, Third rock, 500 Days of summer,..hell, I even liked what he did what Cobra Commander (which I am probably the minority in)
Anyway, the guy is talented and I think if the writing is on this week, which unfortunately most times it is not, we are in for a treat. -
It is almost a given Fey will be back because the Palin's press on the book and the interviews she has done.
I am thinking she will do a solo act or possibly be interviewed by some talk show host. Maybe Kenan can show us if he can pull off Oprah? -

picking on sarah palin does not make me laugh
by beyondthunderdome2girls1cupbillcosby
why don't we all focus our attention away from cheap laughs and find something funny to do a skit about. get over sarah palin bashing, it really is on a disguise to make yourself feel smarter picking on a dumb person. Comedy Evolution!!!!
-
...and her tiresome Palin impression that was only funny once....which is about the same thing I could say about her overrated show.
-
I need to see that Palin for the millionth time! And while you're at it, bring back the Coneheads and Mr Rogers! Nothing gets old on SNL!
-
I don't know what's scarier ... that Herc actually believes what's he's saying or that he knows better but is just too evil to care..
-
found out that doing political impersonation has its limitations. I was at what was his final tour. me and my mum went. his routine got stale. didnt make his death any less of a shock.
-
...is still bitter over the 2008 election.
-
Unless they want to lower themselves to making fun of mentally retarded people... it's just too god damn easy.
-
She actually looks more like Sarah Palin and she needs that breakout role so she won't just be the girl who said fuck on TV. She's also super funny.
-
After last week's disaster, they should just focus on being funny and not giving guys like Herc a political handjob. Fey as Palin is played out. And doing it just to "give 30 Rock a boost" is pretty much admitting that that show is crap.
-
before a commercial. So NBC puts UPS commercials before the SNL commercial. WTF?
-
Does no one remember this? I'd hate to see her go back on her word, if only because I have no idea why celebrities feel the need to vocally "retire" in the first place.
-
mayans rule.
-
Fuck it, I'm just gonna come out and say it:
EPIIIIIC FAAAAIIILLL! -
That's the skit - Sarah Palin has a big lunch, then does an interview with Oprah. Oprah too had a big lunch, an every time either one tries to talk, the other farts. Palin will say something like "my sphincter has gone rogue". And the skit will go on for 18 minutes.
-
"making fun of mentally retarded people.."
Wow.
This is the ugly elitism of the left on full display. They want to put people they disagree with, unborn children, and retarded and disabled people through a holocaust. They haven't killed anybody, but they already have blood on their hands. -
dummies who bought her book 'cause they think she has something to say. She's going to be president but she's def going to get right. Good for her for playing the suckers who will buy anything she puts out.
-
She's not going to be president but she's def going to get rich. Sorry. Watching the Senate vote on health care.

Palin will be President just to PISS off you Liberal fucks!!!
by bosskmr
Fuck all of you liberal cocksuckers!!!!
-
Honestly, Fey's impression was good, but it was really just a straight impression. Wiig would actually put work into the mannerisms, plus there is a greater than 50% chance she will play it completely absurd and bizarre, which I like.
-
which apparently the liberal left want to perform, are the nutbar right-wingers who believe all the crap that spews out of the blubbering mendacious twat called Glenn Beck.
I imagine you're a fan, no? -
Because generally speaking, anyone who pines for getting a Miss America contestant into the highest leadership role on the planet just to spite the other side is their own worst enemy. A small, sadistic part of me kind of wants to see her win also, just so people like you could see just how bad things can really get when you allow your partisan vitriol to overcome your God given common sense.
-
Dude I enjoy politics but I hardly get as angry as you sound. Take a breath.
-
Hader, Sudekis, Armisen, Samberg, Forte, Wiig. It's gotta be almost difficult to make these people not funny but somehow SNL does it weekly.
-
The more the left hammers Sarah Palin, the stronger she grows. The Fox Opinion Dynamics Poll now has her more popular than Obama.
-

Palin mor popular than Obama? With Teabags are birthers?
by snakecharmer
The president has around 49-50% job approval but around 70%+ like him. You can quote all the polls you want NOW but the lady is not getting elected to the WH. She's just get paid off a book she didn't write. Good for her.
-
Hitler is more popular than Obama.
-
I don't understand the negatively. Since when is it a crime to be conservative? As long as you're not harming others, think and do whatever you want! she's just speaking her mind. Since when was America about having the wrong opinion? The more lefties that try to target her, the more power she'll gain.
-
But there's a definite blind spot on the right, where they deliberately misunderstand what the left doesn't like about Palin.
It has nothing to do with her gender, or that she's a conservative. -
...is angry that KarlChilders is 100% on the money.Tina Fey is a comedy black hole that had one shining moment that's been over for a little more than a year now. Let it go.
-
That's basically what this show's turned into.
-
Vote for me, and all your wildest dreams will come true.
-
Lock 'em all up in a WalMart and let 'em Thunderdome each other to the death. I'm beggin' ya.
-
Yeah, it was a stupid premise at first but if you think about it's freaking hilarious.
-
Sad idiots that probably worship Daytime TV.
-
When talking about SNL, which according to this "story", is not even mentioning that Palin is involved, or that a Tina Fey sketch is involved.
-
It's true, she's big. TB'ers and other uninformed people can think the rest of the country hates her as much as they do, but the facts just don't support that.
-
Palin gets a zero. point. zero.
Tell Mr. Stratton and Mr. Schoenstein exactly what l'm about to tell you. You're out! Finished at Faber! Expelled! l want you off this campus Monday morning! And l'm sure you'll be happy to know that l have notified your local draft boards and told them that you are now all eligible for military service. -
She is the Seth McFarlane of SNL. All her characters are the same with slightly different voices and mannerisms. She seems to just recycle skits and just make a different weird voice and face.
-
I don't find her skits worthy of being considered sketches.

Palin won't run in 2012 - Obama loses being the REAL CUNT
by starship captain
I don't understand why Libs get their panties in such a bunch over Palin because she's popular. For fuck's sake, they had NO problem with Obama running around and being mindlessly idolized the same way. Liberals had NO problem dropping to their knees in front of the "anointed one" and opening their mouths wide to delusionally drink his piss straight from the cock, thinking it was fine wine.People just LIKE Palin. She's a rock star on the political scene because of that -- yes, it really is THAT simple. She's the female equivalent of Obama, on the other side of the political aisle. Now, Do I think she'll ever win the White House? No. I think she's too polarizing on a national level and wouldn't be able to pull it off. In fact, I don't think the Republicans would even let her win the ticket TO run. In the end, she's going to be like Ted Kennedy was on the Democratic side. She might TRY to make a run, but she won't win -- at which point she'll become a major voice in the party for years to come, and behind the scenes she'll have a particular power that she can trade off to get certain things.Meanwhile, Obama is the flip side of that, and ironically he's now in the same boat as Palin. People LIKED him while he was running... they still like him as a personality... but they think he's stinking diarrhea SHIT as President. So he's the opposite of Palin. People like her, but DON'T want to see her in office. Meanwhile people like Obama, but now want to kick his fucking retarded ass OUT of office as soon as possible. Because just like Palin, while they might LIKE him in a "cult of personality" sort of way, they DON'T want him sitting in the Oval Office.Hell, the only reason this fucktard even got elected is because too many people got Oprah-ized and conned into thinking "Hey, won't you feel better about yourself IF you elect the first Black president? Don't you WANT to make history? Wouldn't you LOVE to prove you're not a racist?"Well, given the shitacular job Barry has done in office...and given how fucked up his policies are (which all polls show a majority of Americans DON'T agree with)... here's a news flash for Libs and Progressives: NO ONE is going to fall for THAT trick again. When 2012 rolls around, you'll hear all the same bullshit -- "You're only criticizing him because he's black. You should vote for him again to prove you're still not a racist" -- but that mantra will have worn thin. That's ALREADY become a political card the Left has overplayed. Trust me, in 2012, the majority of American people are going to say "Fuck you. Call me what you want, but I want this moron OUT."Don't believe me? Watch the anger continue to boil as the Dems ram this fucked up health care bill through, and then watch this country's anger truly EXPLODE off the scales -- to all-new historic levels of grassroots anger -- when Obama next tries to railroad through amnesty for illegal aliens.Thankfully, that will bump up against the 2010 midterms. And IF the Dems are stupid enough to follow Obama on that one, it will seal their fate and wipe them out of Congress and start to massively tip the scales of power away from Obama and back to something resembling sanity.
-
that you couldn't say that about. Maybe Will Forte, he is consistently hilarious. Plus, they don't usually let the new people do much, especially when one of them slipped up and said "fuck" on the air. So, like it or not, Wiig will be the "go to gal" for a while.
-
A little bitter their bubbie?
Bushie left a big steaming pile of shit to clean-up. Think it might take more than a year (which it has not even been yet)to do that? Only dweenies like you played up the 'magic man' shite. And apparently you believed your own delusions. There are a few other peeps on this website who believe their own delusions as well. Go take your Thorazine and and beam yourself up! -
I agree with what you say about Obama, but when you say "People don't want Palin in the WH"... well, I count as a "people", and I want her in the WH. I know I'm only one person saying this in this particular talkback, but I'm sure I'm not the only one in the United States who feels the same way. Many people DON'T want her in the WH. Many people DO. And I disagree that the GOP doesn't want her... they'll hitch a wagon to her star in the same way the libs did to Obama.
-
She's only popular because most people can see right through her bullshit. She tried to con America, but she failed. Now she's blindsiding some with her goodwill book tour.
-
You moron. Get it straight.
-
Its like all the talkbacks are being invaded by Fox news watching freaks. This must be stopped, go back to your political blogs and leave AICN alone. I'd rather see 100 "SNL is still on?" posts over this
-
Palin is the VICTIM of the Media. Which is why she was on every chatshow and interview she could fit into 24 hours and is touring the States in an enormous fucking bus with PALIN on the side of it in huge letters.
She hates all this Mainstream Media publicity and attention, she really does. As the crazy Britney fan so rightly said (more or less) "AND HOW FUCKING DARE ANYONE MAKE FUN OF PALIN! AFTER ALL SHE'S BEEN THROUGH!!! LEAVE HER ALOOOOONE!!!" -
because he was a moron and they could relate to him, because he was as stupid as they were.
-
Poor whittle lady Governor, VP nominee. Evvybody tweats her badwy. Grow up you whiny bitch and stop pulling out the gender card. Bush was constantly lambasted by the liberals and called Hitler and now the conservatives including yourself are doing the same thing to Obama. Maybe women aren't cut out to be President.
-
She's just an average person now! Stop protecting this bitch.
-
I hate the obvious humor of Tina Fey. Every joke is predictable.
-
You and 25% of American think she's qualified. 40%+ of all Americans consider themselves conservatives. So even conservatives think she's not up to the challenge.
-
ever, I think, with all of it's Emmy wins. I know that this probably says more about the state of comedy on tv now than it does about Fey, especially when Big Bang is the number 1 shit com. Can we please kill this dead format now?!!
-
I could give 2 shits about Palin. It's Fey's undeserved popularity that angers me.
Yet another unfunny turd that was shat out of the equally unfunny bowels of SNL.
Fey will bring that Palin impression out of retirement just to try to squeeze out some more ratings for that bomb of a tv show she has. -
is going to be a one termer. i suspect their will be a race riot or two when he loses. Palin - no show for the white house. however, she will drag a few independants over to the right. the NY trial of the shithead terrorist will totally fuck obamas campaign. he has given into the far left elements of his party. he should have moved to the centre (like clinton) and had 2 terms. ah well.
-
In retrospect, she would not have been the absolute disaster Obama would have been, more of a slow burn disaster. But, her own party fucked her over in the state primaries... they wanted Obama because they thought he was a winner. Now the Secretary of State is safely hidden away from view.
-
Let's see, in 08 the best the GOP could manage was a rigor mortised corpse, a lunatic conspiracy theorist, and a fundamentalist hobbit. But I'm sure a Nugent/Prejean ticket is going to ride the geriatric temper tantrum wave to victory in 2012, and Harry will repeat as People's sexiest man alive.
-
There are people out there who want Palin to be in charge of foreign policy and health care? Really?
-
progressive (adj)
favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, esp. in political matters: "a progressive mayor."
2. making progress toward better conditions; employing or advocating more enlightened or liberal ideas, new or experimental methods, etc.: "a progressive community."
3. characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement.
conservative (adj)
1. disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.
2. cautiously moderate or purposefully low: "a conservative estimate."
Choose a side. Kick your representatives until they do right by the label they've chosen. Then kick them some more to remind them who they are supposed to be serving.
The progressive movement is all about making things better. It isn't always pretty, but neither is shining a light into the dark corner of the basement and watching the roaches scatter. Obama has yet to truly deliver on his promises, and this is only hurting us all (obviously). The Democratic party needs to grow some fucking nuts, attach them to their spines, and get their shit together. Example: universal healthcare is not only doable, it can be accomplished without any of us paying a cent in higher taxes. All they have to do is take off 1% (yes, ONE percent) of all the federal budgets (including defense) and use that to fund universal healthcare. It isn't fucking rocket science. It's what the people want (even if they don't realize it). And it's a goddamn shame that we have to suffer fucking fools on both sides of the aisle while this country continues to drift on an uncertain sea.
The Republicans have run their course, at least for a good long while. The best anyone who claims to care about this country can do is to hold the current administration to their word and demand they do what they were hired to do, and to do it right.
Anything less than that is third world banana republic bullshit. And we get what we deserve. -
She's a moron
-
hahah. 3 years from now if the unemployment is down and the US is doing better. He'll get reelected. We'll be out of Iraq. He'll have more things done than just started. Like does right. His problem is that a lot things are in the middle or beginning of getting done.
-
was in office. They just hate anyone that's progressive.
-
At least to anyone with an above average IQ and enough common sense to know that if you can't answer simple questions in a televised interview (or three), you believe that the Grand Canyon was caused by the Great Flood (see: Noah and the ark), you can actually for real think you can see Russia from your house in Alaska, and you use spoken syntax that makes Gee Dubya look like a Mensa valedictorian, you're probably not the best candidate for a seat of power.
-
would be a HUGE injustice to the woman of america.
-
Socialist suck up! Grovels at the feet of arab terrorists and asian emperors, tries to sell us all into this slavery called "health care reform", doubles the national debt, kills the economy, brings the admitted 9/11 mastermind to NYC for a show trial, tries to tax everyone with this garbage called "Cap and Trade"...
Talk about an embarrassment. The man obviously hates his country... You know, the one that brought him his fame and fortune?
Obama == Worst. President. Ever. 2012 can't come quick enough. -
Really??? Based on what? Some ability we haven't seen yet? What am I missing? My God...I must be in the Matrix or something...the popularity of a moron must be a sign ...
-
Seriously? Tina Fey making fun of Palin again? WOW! Keep laughing. Political naivete is killing us as we speak. Come 2010 you guys won't know what hit you.
-
As evidenced by GeorgieBoy's hysterical post, too many Americans are content to suck the shit out of Glen Beck's asshole rather than explore issues for themselves and seek the truths that they demand be unearthed. Kneejerk reactionary bullshit won't do much to advance your agenda (except in your own sphere of reality)... the sooner you step back and see the big picture and seek enlightenment by way of your own fact checking and research, the sooner you'll realize that you're currently part of the problem instead of the solution.

by greatone3
All run by liberal scumbags. California, New Jersey, Detroit, Houston, Cleveland, etc., etc. New York City was on that list until Giuliani took over, which goes to show. So, for the idiot who made the remark about conservatives not wanting change, it's because the "change" has failed wherever implemented. Liberal fiscal policies do nothing but raise taxes and explode deficits - every program from the New Deal forward (Social Security, Medicare, Great Society programs, etc.) is riddled with huge costs that were "unexpected" when the bills past, and we're scrambling for ways to keep it funded. Same thing will happen with the health care "reform." Just another new way of getting people to become dependent upon government for their daily sustinence.

I agree. These liberals aren't into facts though. Just emotional outbursts. "She's a moron!" That's what they consider intelligent discourse.
But, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. There's more of us than them, and in 2010 they're going to be scratching their heads, wondering what happened, because they get all their news from the Daily Show and according to the Daily Show, everyone hates Palin, and all republicans are "wingnuts". -

want the "government off your backs" so you can have your supposedly "free market" take your next vacation to some third world shit hole like Honduras and see what its really like when the "free market" rather than the government tries to solve social problems.
If it wasn't for government programs like minimum wage, social security, public schools, rural electrification and a plethora (get out your dictionary) of other programs most of you dopey hillbillies would still be cowering in your tar paper shacks, trying to keep you baby with rickets quiet so they don't attract the bandits.
Somebody has to be the referee in the great capitalist game and until we come up with something better the government is the only institution that can do the job.
If you make over 200K a year, OK I get it the GOP is your peeps and they are looking out for you. Anyone who makes less than 200K a year the GOP wants to fuck you in the ass and could care less if you or your babies live or die. They get you to vote against your own best interests with Frank Luntz focus group tested catch phrases like "Death Panel" or "War on Christmas" and meaningless wedge issues like gay marriage, abortion or flag burning. -
The same 5 idiot dittohead talkbackers that always start preaching hysterical, abstract predictions of doom whenever Obama's is invoked have arrived to impotently pout and try to reassure each other of their relevance. Conan was right; crushing one's enemies, seeing them driven (to tears) before you, and hearing the lamentations of their women IS what's best in life.
-
Her book is a bunch of self righteous lies. Saw a fox news poll and only 20% of americans think Palin has the credentials as President. IT is truly sad that that pathetic lying stupid Whore thinks she can do anything but be retarded baby factory at this point.
-
Please die now.
-
Government is necessary, but that's not an excuse for no check and balances and that we shouldn't keep an eye on the politicians in office. I hazard a guess that when GWB was in office, you were critical of the government as well.
-
Big babies.
-
So you don't predict catastrophe if Palin were to become president? What are you complaining about then?
-
I'm sorry, you can make fun of retarded children. It's just kind of a mean thing to do. Go on right ahead if that's how you get your jollies.
-
Saturday Night Live has always touched on the political landscape. It didn't just start last year. As for Palin -- it's kind of redundant for everyone to keep mentioning that she's stupid. Palin is a synonym for the word "retard." Have you seen her fans? From the news clips about her book signings? They're kind of like older, less intelligent Twilight fans.
-
I don't even use the word retard. I just use the word asshole.
-
But I wouldn't have to predict anything... we're currently living in the catastrophe brought about by roughly 30 years of typically short-sighted right wing policy. If, through some horrible "Sound of Thunder" development, Palin is ever elected president, it'd just be more of the same kind of catastrophe that got us here.
-
From her ridiculous and embarrassing Jerry Springer-ish family "issues" to the righteous outings of her obvious intellectual and political shortcomings displayed on national TV over and over again, its been a fun 18 months watching Palin's meteoric rise to celebrity and then the shameful, steady plummet. It's also a lot of fun watching Republicans attempt to defend her, because you know they're only doing it because they have to, not because they want to. It's ironic that Republicans are the "Family Values" party and their shining star Palin's brood makes her look like some backwoods redneck welfare mom.
-
when it's only 1 character in 1 sketch. What about all the other bad sketches and unfunny jokes? I say fire all the writers and get good ones.
-
..an exercise in futility. There are seriously about three conservatives in this talkback. They're parroting Glenn Beck jargon between agreeing with one another, and stand convinced that the "vocal" negates the "minority." Dozens of liberals have peeked in, climbed to the rooftops, and screamed of Palin's ignorance...and you all seriously expect these folk to listen to you? Good fucking luck. You'd be better served ignoring the vocal minority and having logic-driven discussions amongst yourselves. Or not.

I'd settle for one, genuine critique of Obama in SNL
by cylon_conspiracy
Not stuff like that freaking "The Rock Obama" sketch they had with Dwayne (Don't call him the Rock) Johnson. It's like we know you hate Palin. We get it, Tina Fey is funny, Sarah Palin is stupid. If you want to remain politically relevant (which SNL does) then you've got to spread the love around and be willing to poke fun at Sacred Cows. SNL keeps tiptoeing around making fun of Obama, but their heart isn't in it, which results in sketches that just aren't funny.
Which is a startling discrepancy.. because I think the show in general is as good as it's ever been.. the cast is tight and the sketches have been quite strong these last couple seasons (with a few glaring exceptions, especially January Jones, that was a really big disappointment).
-
Yes, you guys pop in and yell about Palin's ignorance with words like "Stupid" "Retarded" "Dumber than a sea sponge" and to a conservative, it's just a big dissonant fart sound. Why don't you break the mold, and actually point out legitimate reasons you don't like Palin... be one of the few who doesn't rely on third grade insults. Unless you actually consider people saying "she's stupid" to be "logic-driven discussions".
-
just summing up this absurd TB. Everyone is retarded.

..ethics complaints, holier than thou world-view, insufficiency of foreign relations, laughable tweeting and publicity whoring, and spawning of the ignorant "death panels" national discourse? Well, politically I disagree with her gun-toting, anti-abortion stances. While I'm not intolerant to contradictory political leanings, the condescending nature of her interviews and speeches certainly rubs me the wrong way. I didn't like her environmental decisions in Alaska. And lastly, if you're truly sincere in your inquiry, may I be so candid and shallow as to say that I also hate her grating accent, her kids' names, and her wanton use of cheap 90's catchphrases like "maverick," "pitbull," and most recently, "Going Rogue." Worst of all, she wants creationism to be taught in public schools, and that makes me a little bit sick at my stomach.
-
...assuming one has heard her speak on a few occassions, "she's stupid" is indeed a pretty logic-driven statement (in my humble opinion).
-
Ethics complaints were all dismissed. "Holier than thou worldview" is another personal attack, and could mean anything. Sounds to me like you have a bit of superiority complex yourself. "laughable tweeting and publicity whoring" again, personal attacks. Everyone of influence seems to use Twitter these days. "Death Panels" were real. End of life counseling, when rationing kicks in, older people will receive less "expensive" care, and will be offered the option of dying to save money.
So out of everything you just said, the only thing that is a legitimate issue is "Death Panels". Everything else is just personal attacks.
Work on your debating technique. You can't say that conservatives are all impervious to logic when you yourself do nothing but spew hateful venom. -
I'm not trying to "debate," nor develop a techniqe for doing so. You asked me a question, I answered you. I don't care enough about your opinion to try to change it, so stop flattering yourself.
-
Death panels are real. They are called health insurers. Pre-existing condition? Too bad for you.
I love conservatives that bring up deficits, considering it was Reagan and Bush II who contributed the most to them. -
...insufficiency of foreign relations experience, poor handling of environmental issues while in office in Alaska, pro-gun and anti-abortion stances, and her pro-creationism in public schools stance are all "legitimate issues." You just ignore them.
-
And exactly what great foreign relations experience did Obamamessiah (blessed be his name) have before entering office?

Should be a fun night.
-
..or to you.
-
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, or any other trainwreck of a human being who is on TV all the time...maybe Kate Gosselin would be the best example. The only difference is that she is on the "NEWS"(which I say kind of sarcastically as I am talking about FOXNEWS), so people think that whatever she is doing is really important-like charging GOP candidates tons of money to make appearances for them(oh wait, that part doesn't get reported) or having tens of thousands of people show up at her book signings(oh wait, that was for a campaign rally in October of last year).
Really, she's popular because a lot of people in America are stupid, and don't look past the surface...they just want a nice face who spouts the same idiotic diatribes ON the news that they usually scream AT the news. -
It's something you get to help you out in the event you develop a problem. Think you can get car insurance after you damage your car? Or get flood insurance after your house goes floating down the river? A person would be absolutely insane to expect coverage after-the-fact there. So why is health insurance any different? One of the (many) fundamental problems with liberalsim as an ideolgoy, and liberals as people, is that you can't grasp the fact that life is unfair sometimes. You can be born too short, too fat, too ugly, less intelligence, more susceptibility to illness or injury, etc. Doesn't mean that the rest of society should have to lower itself to accomodate those situations. Help people out? Absolutely - through private charity. Forcing people to help through government coercion is flat wrong. As we see, once you start getting the government involved to mandate things, the list of people/situations to be covered never stops, and never recedes.
-
What the fuck? He used to do it deeper and it at least sounded like an impression.
-
Slate however...
-
I concur. She is managing to show a sense of comedic timing, while still mimicking the way a translator talks. Between this and her Kardashian, I like what she brings to the table.
-
...but homosexuality is a learned behavior. Yay conservatives!
-
I'm telling you, that was padding.
-
G'GOOOO!!!
-
A guy can dream, can't he?!
-
I'm a conservative, but don't believe that homosexuality is learned. No need to demonize liberals. We're not all Rush.
-
Perfect example of part of the truth behind the Palin hatred on the Left - although she has a rather skimpy resume, it still was leaps and bounds better than The One's, so let's focus attention on her. And virtually everything I have read here criticizing Palin has been because she's a conservative. What whackjob policy is she behind? What troublesome organization has she been a member of? What zany friends/people has she associated with? (If we wanted to discuss how Obama falls into these 3 categories, we'd fill up pages and pages).Sarah Palin is a woman without an elite education, and who spendt the early part of her adulthood in the media and raising her family. She got involved in local government the way a lot of people do - something ticked her off and she wanted to do something about it. She didn't plan on doing this since infancy. Once in governement, she made a difference and ascended the ladder. She has a family, and that family is dealing with issues that a large number of other families in our country deal with. You may not agree with her political views or her values, but there is nothing remotely "stupid" or "dumb" about this woman.

What the hell...

...since the last time I was on YouTube.
-
What does that have to do with what I'm saying? I think homosexual behavior is a developmental behavioral disorder (not a conscious choice). Was deemed as such by the APA until political pressure changed that - no studies were behind it. If you engage in that behavior, fine for you.
-
I can laugh more from just watching the real Sarah Palin. Watch the moron go on SNL and pretend they're laughing with her.
-
Him spinning on the floor laughing... I'll be damned if he shouldn't be the next Joker.
-
If JGL fucked those flips up and say, i don't know broke his neck...Would they go to commercial?Palin 2012 trailer was comedy gold, but i hope that doesn't count as the digital short this week
-
And I doubt Palin would, either. We disagree with you politically. We think you're wrong, but that's about receiving and processing information.
-
..you admittedly think it's a developmental issue (so much so that you'll deny them the rights offered to traditional couples) but had the audacity to say that people are "born too fat." You're born fat, but not gay...that's God-awfully convenient.
-
Vietnam is happenin'!

JGL is a pro though. Man-crush possibly interfering with Abby Elliot's sexual power.

JGL is doing the best with what he has. This reminds me of the skit with Will Ferrell, anna geyster, and sarah Michelle Gellar in the 90's where Ferrell screams.. "I drive a dodge stratus!"
-
that seem odd to anybody?
-
since they don't start until February 12.

Ha, some guy wrote the same thing on 4chan. I vaguely remembered that sketch and then you wrote: "I drive a dodge stratus" and it all came back to me.
Will Ferrell was way funny on SNL. -
Every one in that skit made the best with what they were given, but it was so weak.

An excerpt:If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)
When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential. As Andrew Bolt puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:
Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more. -
They have a good premise - Female talkshow/advice show host is sick so male producer steps in to run show. What do they do with it? "I can't hear you, speak louder" over and over. It's like really, really bad improve.

was a human female her name would be Sarah Palin.
-
She doesn't deserve the love she gets from some people and she doesn't deserve the HATE she gets from other people. Why would she make people so damn angry? If you're a democrat you should like her, cuz her presence hurt McCain somewhat. She didn't get elected, and she's not even the governor. Some republican people may like her, but the republican party will never give her the nomination. Therefore, she's not doing any harm. Get over it. Ignore her.
-
Just look at her fucking family. She's lost it big time with just about everyone. Her book tour should be called a "trying to get her credibility back" tour. Remember when all the assholes were booing when McCain announced Obama got more votes? Really classy there shitheads.
-
parading her around and her acting like she's a REAL politician.
-
they became obsessed with her back then, and never got over it.
-
that she's a breathing joke they rely on a smirk and comment on how "hot" she is. It's a joke. The repubs all just want to fuck her.
-
Funny how they can't understand how people can like Palin, yet they themselves worship Obama. Besides everyone knows Hillary is sharpening her dagger for 2012.
-
to let Gordon-Levitt audition for an off-Broadway show during the monologue. Points for enthusiasm, but not clever or funny. They had to add random punching to get laughs. When the host starts singing, that means they don't have anything original to do.
-
Obama won the fucking NOBEL PEACE PRIZE! Gore won the FUCKING NOBEL PEACE PIRZE! Clinton FREED two women that were prisoners! Name one positive thing Bush or Palin did their entire time in office.
-
I'm on the west coast, so as of now I've only seen up until the Palin 2012 trailer, but I have to give credit where it's due... the sketch with Obama in China was pretty good, and was a genuine parody. Then they did the Palin 2012 one, and that was funny too.. reminded me of the one they did years ago with Will Ferrel, when GWB first became president (same thing, world disaster). I predict Weekend Update will tilt it back to the left but maybe they are actually going to work on being more relevant now, and not just writing love letters to Obama.
-
This is not the first time that SNL has lampooned Obama. They previously made fun of the idea that the President has accomplished nothing so far.
http://tinyurl.com/y9vgdaw
-
But that was actually a "his policies are so good, why can't he put them through?". It wasn't really about him being incompetent--they were just showing impatience that their buddy wasn't getting their favorite stuff passed. This one was a little more vicious I think.
-
proved a scam. Guess they didn't feel like talking about that.
-
Do your own research. Just google "global warming hack".
-
If you're going to come at someone atleast try not to misspell words like "liberal." Ok, dicksuck?
-
If you want to challenge the orthodxy regarding a proper response to the negative impact of industrialization on the climate, that's one thing. For example, I have no problem with some man-made solutions to the issue as are set out in superfreakonomics. However, regardless of any secret emails you believe have been found, Human-caused CO2 emissions are a big problem and have had negative impacts (for humans) on the atmosphere.
-
It's all a sham. The scientists made it up, faked the evidence, tried to destroy data, etc. Sorry, you can't be so sure of your C02 propaganda after this.
This story should get pretty big in the coming days and weeks. -
But damn, what a monologue. You could tell just from that monologue that this guy has wanted to host SNL ever since his "3rd Rock from the Sun" days. He wasn't a worthless cardboard cutout like January Jones -- this guy brought his fucking A game. JGL was born for live stage comedy. And how come no one has brought up the idea of him playing Khan in the Trek sequel? Personally I don't want them to do Khan, but you know they will, and if they have to -- put some muscle on the stringbean and I'm 100 percent confident he can bring some major intensity to the role. It would almost be cooler seeing him as Khan than it would The Joker.
-
By whom? IF as you claim, the scientists were all involved in a massive conspiracy, then who can you trust to confirm them?
And if, as is far more likely, it's not a conspiracy, you're left with the circular reasoning of having them confirmed by people who already have no credibility when it comes to climate change.
Why don't you stick to Fox News, and leave science to those best suited for it? -
Clueless climate change fucktards have Marlon Brando penis envy because, scientific morons that they are, they're biggest dream in life is to dress up like Brando in SUPERMAN just so they can say: "This planet will explode in 30 days, if not sooner."But you know what's really going to happen? NOTHING. All that's every going to happen is that the Earth is going to continue to have NATURAL cooling and warming periods THE SAME WAY IT HAS EVER SINCE IT WAS CREATED.By the way, did I mention you're all clueless scientific fucktards?
-
Best TV of 2009

Even if the drumbeating about global warming is slightly off center, it's so far been a hell of a motivator for initializing green technology to get us off fossil fuel and to finally develop seriously renewable energy sources that won't fuck the planet in the ass, or us in the wallet. Suck on THAT tailpipe, naysayers!

If the global warming scientists have been falsifying their data (and they have: http://tiny.cc/l4QzP), then there is no evidence that we're not engaging in homosexual behavior with the planet, thus completely nullifying your point. This is nothing more than mandates from the government that does nothing more than raise the price for everything. If it were worth a damn, it'd lower prices.

And is it just me, or are there a bunch of really stupid, bassackwards motherhumpers here? -
hotter than 1998. There IS no Global Warming. PERIOD. It's not even debatable. Thea Earth has been cooler/stable each of the last 10 years. Not even so-called Global Warming nuts can dispute this. AlGore has become a gazillionaire off from this junk science designed to cripple the US economy...
-
A simple Google search shows several global temperature graphs over the last HUNDRED years, some even dating further back, that actually show things HAVE gotten worse. Looking back at the older ones, while there is fluctuation, there is still a precipitous rise since the industrial revolution that is only continuing to go up over the long term. Further and further up, only coming down slightly before going even further up. Besides, it is GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE because it's not just warming. That was just a way to dumb it down, which has only backfired. And you can't tell me that pouring all the crap we have into the air and water, and ground, isn't having negative effects. Just because you don't understand it (like evolution, gravity, reality) doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And if you're wrong, we're screwed. If we're wrong, we have a cleaner environment and less dependence on foreign oil (plus more jobs and cheaper energy). But no, those same corporations who are making money off of our wasteful lives are telling us greedy scientists want to take away our toys for their own profit. K. Meanwhile your hero denier can only squabble over data (which we SHOULD be doing), not one can actually DISPROVE GCC!
-
I believe people are talking about a recent study saying that scientists have noted global warming seems to have stalled during the past ten years. I'm not saying I'm on one side or the other here, but it is a real study. Or at least, it's a real news story I read.By the way, while I suppose Gore's comment about a 60-degree November may be a good point, didn't we just get over a relatively cold summer?
-
Some moron above said that "liberals" consider calling Palin a moron intelligent discourse. What a moron.Moron.

It's not THAT much above the average. There were also a few mid-40s days in October, so does that mean an ice age is imminent?
-

The billions and billions of animals slaughtered every year for our selfish consumption because "MEAT TASTE GOOD"? They must just grow without food, right? They must not shit or expel massive amounts of gas into the air, right? Anyone who says global warming is a hoax is terribly fucking ignorant.
-
1998 - 32.94 degrees Fahrenheit (0.52 degrees Celsius)
2005 - 32.86 degrees Fahrenheit (0.48 degrees Celsius)
2003 - 32.83 degrees Fahrenheit (0.46 degrees Celsius)
2002 - 32.83 degrees Fahrenheit (0.46 degrees Celsius)
2004 - 32.77 degrees Fahrenheit (0.43 degrees Celsius)
2006 - 32.76 degrees Fahrenheit (0.42 degrees Celsius)
2007 - 32.74 degrees Fahrenheit (0.41 degrees Celsius)
2001 - 32.72 degrees Fahrenheit (0.40 degrees Celsius)
1997 - 32.65 degrees Fahrenheit (0.36 degrees Celsius)
1995 - 32.5 degrees Fahrenheit (0.28 degrees Celsius)
So yeah, no year has been hotter than 1998 in the last 10 years, however seven of the 10 hottest years ever have occurred this decade. So anyone who says Global Warming is a myth is full of it, and isn't worth even being involved in a discussion about climate change. -
I figure there are scientists regretting ever calling it "global warming", because we've just turned into people pointing the temperature records as proof of one thing or the other. When the point isn't 100% about the temperature. I guess that's why they're trying to change the official title to "global climate change". Y'know, it's kind of like now saying "H1N1 virus" because people were slaughtering pigs to stop "swine flu".
-
"Green technology doesn't work."
The 89 petawatts of sunlight reaching the Earth's surface is plentiful - almost 6,000 times more than the 15 terawatts of average electrical power consumed by humans. Additionally, solar electric generation has the highest power density (global mean of 170 W/m²) among renewable energies.
Solar power is pollution-free during use. Production end-wastes and emissions are manageable using existing pollution controls. End-of-use recycling technologies are under development.
Photovoltaic installations can operate for many years with little maintenance or intervention after their initial set-up, so after the initial capital cost of building any solar power plant, operating costs are extremely low compared to existing power technologies.
Solar electric generation is economically superior where grid connection or fuel transport is difficult, costly or impossible. Long-standing examples include satellites, island communities, remote locations and ocean vessels.
When grid-connected, solar electric generation replaces some or all of the highest-cost electricity used during times of peak demand (in most climatic regions). This can reduce grid loading, and can eliminate the need for local battery power to provide for use in times of darkness. These features are enabled by net metering. Time-of-use net metering can be highly favorable, but requires newer electronic metering, which may still be impractical for some users.
Grid-connected solar electricity can be used locally thus reducing transmission/distribution losses (transmission losses in the US were approximately 7.2% in 1995).
Compared to fossil and nuclear energy sources, very little research money has been invested in the development of solar cells, so there is considerable room for improvement. Nevertheless, experimental high efficiency solar cells already have efficiencies of over 40% and efficiencies are rapidly rising while mass-production costs are rapidly falling.
Suck on that, dumbass. -

Although I believe that man has some effect on the environment
by rob0729
I think the 7 of the hottest months on record were in this decade argument is misleading and weak. First we are talking roughly 100 years or so of recorded temperature. Second, the hottest year was 1998. Since 1998 was the hottest year and the there hasn't been a rapid cooling, of course most of the hottest years would be the years surrounding the hottest years.
The fact of the matter is the global temperature has plateaued and has cooled in recent years. 2009 is still on track to be cooler than 2008 which was cooler than 2007 which was cooler than 2006.
I am for the world SMARTLY weaning off fossil fuels. I think the world should reduce their emmissions, but not with a cap and trade scam that has failed miserably in Europe. Cap and trade is a scam that will just make profitiers like Al Gore into billionaires. And yes, Gore is a profitier who is on his well on his way to becoming a billionaire because of his investment companies benefitting from Congress' laws. He preaches alarmism rather than intelligent discussion and is no different than the deniers who bring God into the discussion. Gore is no better in my mind than the scientists who he accuses of being in the oil companies back pockets.
Climate change is big business for both sides of the argument. People on both sides are getting very rich because of this. The dangers of this is that we don't have a real discussion on either side and we have alarmism or complete denying. Both are dangerous for the global economy and human lives. The deniers are cast as the evil ones, but I feel the alarmists are just as evil. -
Solar is not the way to go. I read somewhere that to generate as much energy as one coal power plant, you need something like 300 sq miles worth of solar panels.
The only green energy remotely possile of feuling an industrial nation would be bio-fuels and that hasn't been proven to be true either.
Solar and wind are great secondary energy sources, but not a primary one. The other problem is that no one wants the solar panel or wind farm in their back yard. Even Ted Kennedy fought to keep out a wind far miles from his family home down on the Cape.
The only realistic energy source to reduce CO2 emmissions right now is nuclear. The French have proven you can provide electricity to an entire country that size, cheaply, efficiently, cleanly, safely, and with very little nuclear waste. I am all for a switch to nuclear energy. Although people are against it. -
Good argument, Rob. I just wish all the arseholes screaming about "fiscal responsibility" would understand that there ARE viable options to fossil fuels that we can implement right now that will start saving us all money with the quickness. It just seems that the hardcore conservatives are so far up the rightwing river that they just jump right on board with whatever their masters decry without taking the time to educate themselves on the issue. There are real solutions to our problems, and like I said several posts back, even if global warming isn't as huge an issue as was initially believed, it's a great motivator to open new home-grown industry that will benefit us AND the planet.
-
It must happen! I'm surprised that the Shat Man hasn't done her tweets yet. As a Palin fan, and I am proud to say I like her, I am awaiting the Shat Man's interp.
Of course, Palin in Mirror Universe uniform would be even better as his sidekick on Conan. -
Then private companies would (1) be fighting amongst themselves to market the technology and reap the billions in profits that would surely come; and (2) be using the technology themselves as a way to cut back on their overhead. We wouldn't need the government forcing it on us.This is a good lesson in free market economics - because companies are in business to make money, if something is cost effective and makes money, companies will do it. We wouldn't need this spectre of cap and trade to force them.
-
By the way, this is a entertainment site...fuck your politics. Why does everyone have an opinion these days and feels they have to voice it no matter where they are? Obama fucking sucks, America made a mistake and no one wants to own up to it. (See? I just voiced my opinion in a completely inappropriate setting).
-
The reason we haven't implemented green tech (and that we're so far behind Japan and Germany) is because it's been deliberately shunned and rejected by the ones who are still reaping megaprofits from fossil fuels. Yes my friend, it's just that simple. Same reason all the early patents for electric cars were "disappeared" before they could gain any traction. I've heard rumors that we've even had patents for WATER POWERED cars (is that even possible?) not to mention perpetual energy engines that need no external power whatsoever (paging Nikola Tesla). Maybe now that everyone's gettin' on the "green tip" we might see more of this tech emerge. But it won't be without a fight from the "profit first - people last" contingent.
Hell, we can't even get a working maglev public transit system going in this country. Wonder why?
-
While I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I have often wondered why we're still using oil as our primary fuel source 100 years later. My disagreement with you is because I don't think the technology would work, but that companies are too invested in their own fuel sources and buy up rights/patents for competing tech cannot be denied.
-
See? Civilized discourse can be fun! There really is no one right answer to this, but my problem with the conservative approach is that they seem to be so mired in "ain't broke don't fix it" that they will immediately reject any "far out liberal" ideas as a waste of time and money that would be better spent elsewhere. Change is hard, especially when it involves moving out of one's comfort zone. Every problem has a solution, it's just a matter of prioritizing the search for that solution and keeping the appropriate motivator in mind. If it truly betters our overall condition, it's worthy of consideration. And while you're right that solar power is still frustratingly in its developmental stages, I have to wonder where we'd be with it today if Reagan would have left the panels atop the White House that Carter installed. Use begets improvement, so the more green tech is put into practice, the more innovation will take hold and the faster we'll get to where we need to be. :)

Experience: Being a governer is much better preparation to be president than a senator based on the multitude of practical, everyday decisions of running a state. Management on that level dwarfs anything a senator has to deal with.
Expertise: Bullshit. A president should never be a specialist or 'expert' as you infer. Presidents should be knowledgable in many areas specializing in none. That's where advisors come in...they are the specialists. NOTE: Don't think for one second ANY of the politicians involved in trying to centralize 1/5 of the nations economy (health care!) know Jack about the complexities and inticacies involved in the system. Expertise my ass.
Intelligence: Book smarts? You're going to get giddy and weak in the knees over a Harvard degree? Because someone is a lawyer? Do these "credentials" impress you that much? Isn't that too corporate for you cool hipsters? These credentials tell me NOTHING about a person other than they know how to jump thru the hoops. Values and character leap to mind as kind of important too.
Maybe I'm a little too Frank Capra for you clowns but I still think anyone in this country can be president...as hard as that may be. -
he was let down by the material but he tried to sell it hard. Props on the wall flip.As a host he was not as good as Taylor Swift but he was better then most of the others this season. Now back to your regularly scheduled political nonsense.

I think the "Frank Capra" view is still very widespread in this country. These TB'ers are the vocal minority.

Different states mean different levels of experience. Being governor of say, California, is a different animal than being governor of Alaska. Hell, as much as I dislike Giuliani, I think being mayor of NYC is better preparation for the presidency than being governor of podunk Alaska. And lest we forget, Palin did quit her job in the middle of her term. I mean all other things aside, that's probably the most damning thing about her political career. Though on the bright side it has produced some magnificently ridiculous spin, starting with Palin's amazing press conference ...

ALL OVER MY FUCKING TALKBACK.
Get the fuck out! -
Hercules is the one that used his platform to make a story about SNL an excuse to bash Palin. Blame him.

He's truly a hack. But what do expect from someone hardwired into t.v. 24/7 and reporting on it as if it had any value or substance?
-
That one guy is jumping between 3 different accounts just to back himself up and give himself the illusion of credibility lol
-
It's also been discovered that the melting of all the ice resulting in the opening Northwest Passage for the first time since man discovered it is a sham, it's all an elaborate illusion created by a series of giant mirrors and projectors. The boats that think they're sailing through it are actually not, the crews are being drugged, flow in helicopters to an identical ship on the other side. Clever conspirators, to say the least. Oh, and that thing where the Inuit are seeing grass for the first time in recorded history because the tundra is thawing? Also a hoax, those are all just fat asian actors from California being paid to go there and plant astroturf. Also, that thing where golf courses in atlantic canada now open a full month earlier than they used to because of early thaws are also lies. I'm sure my own observation of grass, flowers and people in T-shirts during months traditionally spent in winter coats is due to LSD taining of the water supply.
-
Which is fine... but I think it's funny that he (or other tb'ers) assume that personal attacks against a national figure would ever be met with any sort of negative response. "What? Someone has an opinion different than me?" Get out more guys! Believe it nor not, your opinion is not the only one in town. There's a whole world of variety out there, just waiting to be explored. Different people, different opinions, different ways of looking at things.
Of course, a lot of these guys have no knowledge of the issues other than insults. So when someone's main response is "you're stupid" you have to wonder if perhaps they are younger than voting age and just trying to pretend to talk about grown-up stuff. -
is mistaken, if anything it's the fucking left that is small and can't read...I mean how often do you hear about a conservative committing a serious crime? (Never) Who buys all the books about politics? (Conservatives) Who has to get their news from comedy shows like The Daily Show and Colbert Report? (....um....Liberals...oops.)
Also...lockesbrokenleg is a gay name. It suggests you just want to be closer to his penis. -
The compassionate ones... all they have are insults. It's like watching Southpark. Cartman might not be a liberal but he sure acts like one. Just replace "dirty jew" for "stupid republican".
Their whole case rests on this myth that conservatives are some sort of non-human life form. That's funny, but hate to break it to you liberals, but conservatives are just as human and often more educated than you, just with a different life philosophy.

Give me a break! What about all those Republicans that have sex in bathrooms? All those Priests that have sex with Altar boys. The Conservatives have more fucking sex than liberals!

I think he meant politicians, but since you're talking about non-politiians, there's the whole global warming scientists making up evidence thing. Like, one of the biggest scandals of all time is going on as we speak, and the man-made global warming movement is about to be completely decimated.

The liberal university is also an echo chamber of left ideaology with no competing ideas. The learner is not challenged to articulate and defend a position. Any ideas right of center are dismissed as an impeidment to progress. Indoctrination and agreement replace open dialogue...look how many university students shout down conservative speakers. Shiny Happy People indeed.
-
If there's one thing teens or young adults in college like, it's being on the other side of the "system". The liberal ideology in the schools, in the culture, is "the system". It's dangerous and revolutionary to be a conservative now... so you can bet that's a strong draw for a lot of young people.
-
But, hell, Al GORE would have made a better President than fucking Bush.
-
"Dubya" has not committed any crimes. It is stupid to say such a thing because you don't agree with his policies or dislike him. I would venture to say Nixon's "crime" was not a crime. He didn't order anything, He just covered for his friends after the fact. Most would do the same thing... By the way, before you spout off some lame ass conspiracy I'll save you the time...whatever you think about Nixon and Bush is bullshit based on your own hatred. Go jerk yourself off to a Michael Moore movie, asshole.
-
and entered into debates with friends of mine who were liberals. I couldn't defend myself at all. Not because I'm a bad debater, but because my positions made no sense. Basically I was parroting what my family said during holidays and get-togethers. College, and the people there, taught me how to think and how to defend my ideas. But before you can really do that, you have to have you own ideas and not just parroted talking points.
-
It amazes me how having your own ideas always ends in liberalism. It sounds to me like having your own ideas equals having the same ideas your college professor has.
-
Dubya was arrested for drunk driving. Also, the Iraqi War-was it a result of his incompetence or lying? Which? As for Nixon? Well, if you're going to argue for Nixon I don't really know what I can do for you. What he did was a crime. That's why he ran away. That's why he had to be pardoned. Otherwise, what was the pardon for? So I take it if the president does it, it really is not illegal? We can start an expensive, unwinnable and pointless war based on faulty evidence and lies? And that's cool? Go suck corporate cock. Actually, I find most conservatives all too easy to take it up the ass from big business. Or other dudes, as Larry Craig, Bob Allen, Mark Foley, or Glenn Murphy Jr can tell you.

Your arguments made no sense in the classroom because you never had to defend them at home. This is the same insulated non reality most kids learn in academia. You don't agree with Global Warming? Interesting. Most liberals do, so I just assumed you did also. I guess my caricature that all liberals are a certain way was wrong.
-
I guess you can say I'm in the middle of Demos and Republicans. I think this Green movement thing is a worthless waste of time,
-
Exactly. You have have think about this stuff, and then come to your own conclusions. Most young people do just spout off what their family tells them, (or in a liberal's case, what the media tells them) and when you confront them, you realize they haven't thought anything through. Hopefully when they realize they don't actually know anything, they learn a bit about how the world works, then form their conclusions. Maybe it will confirm their previous beliefs. Maybe their beliefs will change as a result. Maybe both. But the common denominator is: think things through.
You can spot the ones who don't think things through by the fact that their only response is name calling, or that their views are defined by the other side.
Like, "why are you a liberal?" If the answer is "republican's are all bible thumping nazis who hate gay people!" then clearly they don't understand the strengths of their own position. They are not for something as much as they are against something else. -
Hard to take you seriously when you got on me for being a part of the "contingent that demonizes Betty Draper" when you're doing the same thing to a real woman, not a character on a T.V. Show.

In finding middle ground than knee jerking as far as possible away from eachother out of spite, the world would finally be pushing to solve the economic, social, medical, energy consumption, waste management, resource depletion, and just about every other problem faced on this globe. Americans are WAY to willing to compromise 3 of their values to support one that backs their party. Bunch of people trying way to hard to fight instead of finding resolution. Assholes, the bunch of you. Why is the battle more important than the solution.
-
There are very sharp distinctions from domestic to foreign policy. Leaving political parties aside, the philosophical differences are stark. Ironically what most of the historically ignorant here would call conservative was true liberalism back in JFK's day.
-
It's being honest with yourself in realizing that Palin is an absolute dead-end politician. To those who support/defend her, you're getting played by both Palin AND her opponents. Keep your eye on the issues, we don't worship people- that breaks a big Commandment.
-
your age? You and a few other folks on here are scary mother fuckers.
-
Stick to the facts, not the personal attacks. Just kidding---that's all you got.
-
Is just a lazy way of taking a stand. If you don't know the facts, or the differences between the parties, just say they are both corrupt and then you look like the bigger man for not knowing what's actually going on in the world.
-
I have no personal opinion of Palin. I'm simply looking at her abilities as a politician. She was objectively not up to the challenge as a VP candidate- she wasn't well-versed on the issues, she didn't define herself and she got handled by the likes of Katie Couric. Her personal charm connected with some part of the electorate, but that doesn't qualify you for national office. On paper, she's a loser in her quest to communicate with independents. If conservatives want to take the White House and other offices, they need to start backing winners. Unfortunately for them, there are few winners, if any, to choose from. And Palin is an easy strawman for the Democrats to focus on- in one breath she's unqualified and dumb and in the other she's a "threat." As of now, Palin has done nothing to distinguish herself as a leader. She's spent more time talking about nothing than most any politician I have witnessed in a long time.
-
I legitimately want to know how we got into Iraq. I think most people do, and that question was never answered. But no, as far as black-and-white facts go he got behind the wheel while intoxicated. But if you want to move on from Dubya and Nixon, we can discuss Tom DeLay and Scooter Libby. Or we can move away from conservative criminals and just shitty conservative politicians. In that case, we can move back to your golden god Dubya. Two wars, a terrorist attack on US soil, two disputed elections, a suspicious and traitorous leak of a CIA agent, the mishandling of a natural disaster and the biggest recession since the Depression. Whew. Some of that shit had to have been done on purpose. No way all that was simple circumstance and bad luck.

CYLON_CONSPIRACY - IF YOU WERE DEFENDING ANYONE OTHER THAN PALIN
by bringingsexyback
You could be taken seriously. But you chose the wrong Conservative to hold up as the ideal. You like facts, do you? That's ironic considering Palin's book is rife with outright lies pointed out by those who knew her, and dealt with her, regardless of political persuasion. And if you need anyone to point this out to you, you're not very well informed.
Otherwise, good points, guys. -
Believe it or not, I don't care if you take me seriously or not. I just like to talk about this stuff. Trust me, I'm more informed than you.
Aside from that, you read her book? Are there any parts you DID like? -

SARAH PALIN HAS EXAGERRATED HER RELEVANCE LIKE NO ONE I'VE SEEN
by bringingsexyback
Usually, one's own myth-making is backed by at least some accomplishment. This woman's ascendancy to hero of the Right is baffling. I mean, not only did she accomplish nothing of import as a governor, but her actions as governor have been methodically criticized by Alaskans - you know, those who knew the woman and not the myth. She can't even manage to stay on the job as governor once the oil tax revenues declined. She actually quit. This is what the Right has to offer? No, but clearer Conservative heads can't prevail in the time of teabagging near-riots and Rush-led assaults on the paleos. Ah well, interesting times we live in I suppose.
-
Trust is earned. So far, the proof of your encyclopedic knowledge of all things political is absent, just as in the case of your hero Sarah.
-
You've asked why others dislike her... well, why do you like her? Aside from being married to a separatist. That's not that patriotic...
-
Learn to spell, dumbass.
-
keith UBERDUSH -- rachael MANDYKE and chris " i dont support ANY conservatism " matthews ... no wonder ur just as ignorent as the extreme right wing.....

When your leaders are Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin, your party is fuuuuucccccked. Of course, when you're criticizing "the media" and "colleges" with all the furor of a rabid, blind dog, you're party is fuccccked. Yeah, screw the media, even though we own a lot of it and run the talk-radio portion. And screw colleges, what with their trying to educate people and reliance on facts and data. Damn liberals with their books without pictures. Only book Republicans need would probably be called "The Bible's Guide To Bombing Brown People. Forward by Dick Cheney."
-
Even Glenn Beck knows that.

At least the other guys really believe in what they're saying. jaybird just wants attention.

Why don't some of you guys go get to it.

i dont mind debating u dumassesss though

thats fact big boy. right wing REDNECKS are bad for the consevative party and so are LEFT WING LIBERAL professors. just fact sorry...
-
If you didn't read the book, don't give book reports. They didn't let you get away with that in grammar school, and it doesn't work as an adult.
-
She was a good Governor, and she holds many of the same conservative ideals I do. That's usually the reason someone supports a political figure.
I also like the fact that all you have to do is say "sarah palin" nad you guys start frothing at the mouth. Shows me she's got you by the nuts and you're afraid she's gonna twist 'em. That's why there can be a sketch on SNL of "Palin 2012".... the idea of her being president is being taken EXTREMELY seriously.
So, in conclusion, I like her because I agree with her policies, and I like how she is a demonstrated leader, and I also like how she is commanding national attention just by getting out of bed in the morning and writing a little facebook message. -
What are we missing? Inform us, then.
-
That was hilarious. You're right, I don't read. I don't write either. I don't even speak. I can't even see. Or hear. Or breathe.
Really great argument you got there-- "you're stupid, you don't read books".
That really hurts, because, it's so TRUE. -
I don't read. You said it yourself. Why would I have that book when the only book I would read is whatever dumb title you made up that I can't recall right now?
I assume you guys have read it though, because you're explaining what's in it.
(PS I actually have it in the other room I just haven't started reading it yet--don't tell the other republicans, I don't want them to be jealous of my book learnin') -

I ask this in all seriousness. Examples, please.

You haven't read the book yet. So you're about as informed as her critics on here, who also haven't read the book (I assume). Also, you agree with her policies? Which ones? I'm genuinely curious. Listen, I have an open mind. I supported McCain in '00 during the primaries before he was robbed. I support Schwarzenegger in California. I think Bloomberg has some good ideas. Change my mind. Show me where I'm wrong and where you're right. Let's all cut out the personal attacks on both sides by both sides and stick with facts, and the data to back them up. Let's get historical, logical, and try to settle this once and for all. I'm looking forward to this.

I'm informed because I've been following her story ever since she was announced running mate of John McCain. So that means I've been following her story for over a year.
So, I'd say I'm actually more informed about her than the critics here, because not only do I know most of the tabloid/media slams that she's endured over that time (which is probably the extent of the knowledge the tb'ers here have), but I also have been following "her side" of the story too. I'm into politics. And that extends beyond the Daily Show.
-
I don't want books in my libraries censored. I'm pro-choice. I don't want my leaders to quit into their first term. I don't like the way she fires her enemies and people she perceives as enemies. I don't like the way she used the bridge to nowhere to get elected then reneged on her support. That's flip-flopping, something many conservatives threw at Kerry. I'm giving you facts. I can give you links if you want. Now please show me the same courtesy and change my mind on her leadership qualities. I'm being respectful now.
-
Nobody ever seriously claimed he was a demonstrated leader. No need to posture in your comments, but please do so if it's your general m.o.
-
Nope. I'm not here to change your mind. That's not my job. You already don't like her... do you think that I believe anything I say is seriously going to sway your opinion of Sarah Palin?
I like her. You don't have to. And I don't expect you to. And with a loaded question like "Change my mind. Show me where I'm wrong" just shows me how deep seated you are in your opinions.
If you really cared, you'd go to pro Palin sites to expand the depth of your understanding.
You guys have been trying to change MY mind by saying "I'm stupid". That is really not the best way to get me on your side. And I haven't seen any substance from you guys other than the typical "she's a gun nut--she can't read--republicans are stupid" nonsense that makes up most of the liberal argument these days.
I'm a conservative republican.. I believe in small government, low taxes, the right to own a gun, and strong national defense. It's not that complicated. Where I differ from Palin is the social stuff, as I am not religious and don't care about abortion.

at least on this TB. That is like accusing conservatives of getting facts from Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter. However, the purpose of Jon Stewart's show is to satirize. Not so much the point of the other shows. Let's assume we all get our news from various sources. You sound like you're bitter over long-term criticism over your right-leanings. Were you a fan of Bush/Cheney? I'd be willing to listen to a defense of their time in office if any conservative on here wants to give one. I'm being open and honest here.

If you were here I'd give you a high-five and buy you a violent video game and Nickelback CD from Wal-Mart. You're gonna break a lot of fat, midwestern hearts one day...
-
I have no desire to change your mind. Not my job.
-
You say you don't care and that things aren't your job, but you keep posting here. That's not anyone's job. Not even Harry's. We're all trying to have a discussion. If you like Sarah Palin, great. Good for you. I suggest you buy multiple copies of her book and eagerly await the primaries for the 2012 election. If what people on the internet say about someone you admire bothers you, and you recognize that you won't be able to influence their opinion, I have to question why you're around them in the first place.
-
She's able to project her own personality through a filter of media coverage. That's great, but that doesn't distinguish her from someone that has their own daytime talk show. I'm talking about her political track record. She's not educated on the national and international issues. She got elected governor of a state who's population is a little over half a million people. I've worked on political campaigns in my own county that have covered a larger voting population. Taking on corruption in your own party is laudable, but that doesn't make you a political star.
Since her self-abbreviated stint as governor, she has done little to define or add to the issues. Saying "death panels" in response to health care legislation misses the point of the debate- it's a sensationalist retort to a pretty complex issue. She doesn't address the rising costs of the current health system in any depth. She is more concerned with her own cult of personality, based on her political activity. Who writes a memoir when they haven't accomplished anything substantial. Dwight Eisenhower helped lead the liberation of Europe- that's a fucking memoir. Sarah Palin's tales of Alaskan political back-biting is a sad profile in self-promotion. Sorry, dude, she's not all that you hope her to be. -
Well, according to you, my job is to be an ignorant racist who doesn't read. I don't suspect I'd really have much to offer such a man as yourself in the way of elucidation.
My "purpose" for being here is that I'm just killing time and having fun. My very original posts purpose was to critique Hercules for using an SNL story as an excuse to bash Palin... when all he had to was talk about the actual show. And, I'm tired of Hercules using his platform to bash republicans, which is my right. If you don't like it, don't read my posts. -
Do you really think I haven't heard your talking points over and over and over and over again in the MSM for a year now?
You honestly think your opinion is something I haven't been beat over the head with in the media... for a year now? Sorry dude, I've heard it before.
If she runs, I'll vote for her, just as I'm sure as no matter what I say, you'd vote for Obama. -
That Nickelback CD and fat Midwestern thing is funny. Sadly, I still win TheJokesOnUs. You lost because you had to go back and refer to something I said hours ago. A real winner would have addressed that hours ago. Also, I win for having a better name.
-
I can point at petty things you said earlier in this TB as well. I won't, because I was trying to give you an option of stating an intelligent defense of Palin, and/or Bush/conservatism in general. I suppose you don't have one, and I must say it doesn't paint your beliefs in a very good light. I guess you just believe what you believe, regardless of facts or evidence. Sort of like what many claim liberals do. I myself was a former right-leaning individual until eight years under a largely Republican leadership showed me the fallacy of what I believed. I was wrong on a lot of things, and big enough to change. One day, I hope you will be able to look at your own beliefs objectively, too.
-
mindless "MSM talking points" but you don't offer a rhetorical response. I'm interested in having a debate, not a personal attack-fest, in case you haven't noticed by my approach here. As for who I'd vote for, you honestly haven't a clue- so don't make assumptions.
-
Why? You're devoted to winning a feud on Ain't It Cool. It's important to you. Think about that. And try to avoid reaching for the gun. And if you're arguing names, I'll point out that you're taking yours from a group of talented musicians who would beat the living red state out of you for even listening to one of their songs. Yeah, Johnny Cash. Joe Strummer. Huge conservatives. Just enormous.
-
we're not going to change his mind. He's not going to change ours. He doesn't want to use facts or data to back-up his beliefs. In his heart of hearts, the country would be better served being led by Palin. All we can do to settle this is to see where we are in four years, and rush to the polls to cancel out each other's vote. One day, there will be an intelligent debate between respectful Republicans and devoted Democrats. But not here. And not now.
-
But I give people the benefit of the doubt. If cylon wants to get into the nitty gritty, I'll partake gladly. I look at the Palin phenomenon with fascination, not fear. I look at her and see someone divvying up her own party for personal gain. Heck, even Gingrich sees that shit happening.

TheJokesOnUs--sorry, you don't get to take the high road
by cylon_conspiracy
Give me a break. You think only people on the left question their beliefs and change their minds over time? And are objective about said beliefs?
With comments like all republicans are racist and ignorant, that shows me your ability to be objective is kind of limited, and that you only see the world through stereotypes.
You started with that crap, you don't get to rise above it now.
I'm not bitter. Just apathetic towards the predictability of it all.
Right now I'm waiting for GQtaste's caricature of how old I am, and where I live... I'm dying to see what funny image he has in mind of who I am. -
How do you not see the exact same hero worship and giddy blind devotion for Obama? Surely you must be disgusted with the lack of scrutiny or concerning Obama already logging in more golf in a year than Bush did right? After all that was a pretty big rallying call against the former prez right? The horror!
-
Who cares if she wrote a book? There's a law against that? She was the popular governor of a U.S. State, she was popular in office... people have been saying shit about her for such a long time... she has the right to write a book.
And she had more executive experience than Obama had when he was sworn into office, so her experience, while not as large as other's, is already more than the current president's. Doesn't make it particularly relevant, considering that, to whine about how she hasn't done much in office.
I'm going to watch UP now. Heard it's one of the best of the year. -
And he gives great speeches. That's enough for many.
-
And they took a nice dig at Obama, which impressed me.
-
you commiserated with a fellow conservative with how liberals aren't into facts, only emotional outbursts. That sounds an awful lot like stereotyping to me. And that's before I got into this. Look, you like Palin for reasons you can't or won't explain. Fine. You insist there's more of you than us. Well, we'll see.
-
You've accurately characterized those two and about 350 others here as well.
I never attempt to change anyone's mind. The goal is CLARITY. I don't care if one disagrees. I only seek clarity on both sides.
And there's the rub. You can't find people here generally who can illustrate their thought process and deconstruct WHY they believe X. They are informed by pop culture and consensus... not values and history. They don't even bring into question a rational process because good intentions are all that matter.
Happy Shiny People. -
As if I had to point this out, TheJokesOnUs, but you're nothing but emotional outbursts. You've taken the bait from everything I've said tonight. Try not to lose too much sleep tonight, dude. What I love about these talk backs is that people (you, for example) have no idea who you're talking to. It's fun to get you all keyed up with anger, not knowing who I am. haha
-
And really, I don't come to AICN to debate politics.... but Hercules will be Hercules.
And just to see where bias lies, a few weeks ago I made the comment that 30 Rock might be taking a hit in the ratings because people were tired of Fey's attacks on Palin. It was tongue in cheek.
I almost got my head torn off for injecting politics into a non-political discussion... yet... here we are, Hercules brings up Palin... and.... and....
Anyway, nite yall. -

on the internets. "If there's one thing teens or young adults in college like, it's being on the other side of the "system". The liberal ideology in the schools, in the culture, is "the system". It's dangerous and revolutionary to be a conservative now... so you can bet that's a strong draw for a lot of young people." Hey dipshit, you realize don't you that, when Democrats were in power in the sixties and liberalism was the establishment back then -- it was still LIBERALS on college campuses who were protesting against things like Vietnam and segregation. Liberals fighting because they wanted their Democratic government to be MORE LIBERAL, not less.
People don't protest to be "dangerous" or cool, they protest policies they don't like and fight for policies they do like. For fuck's sake. That's what's wrong with you and the GOP -- your party is all an effort to affect your image rather than affect policy.
And for idgits who keep saying Palin was a good governor: I'm from Alaska! I've lived here my entire life. When I hear non-Alaskans boast about her record I want to puke. She was a governor for 2 and half years (I was even at her inauguration in this small fucking state, me and 3,000 other saps) and aborted her job with no record of accomplishment except what Palin-lovers like to imagine. Please, please, please state one accomplishment of hers as my state's governor. Hell, the only notable thing she did in 2 and half years was quit.
But I will agree with you on one point: PALIN 2012 all the way baby! If she gets the GOP nomination, Obama may as well sit out any campaign and start writing the speech for his 2nd inauguration. -

It's an easy award to receive when there are so many of you out there. Thanks for answering my question about what Palin has done for my state. If you're gonna toot her horn, at least back it up.
-
Right? Surely everyone knows, when they flip open their Palin books to read themselves to sleep, that they're in no way reading her words but the words of a ghost writer. At least Obama can write his own damn books.

The skit of Obama being grilled by the Chinese Premier about how and when the Chinese are going to get their money back was hysterical. Unfortunately, in addition to tears of laughter, you'll be sobbing like a baby since everything said in that sketch was 100% accurate, especially in terms of showing what a moron Obama is and how fucking idiotic his fiscal plans are. Thank goodness he and the Dems will be losing big in 2010 and 2012!
-
But name one person who could be doing better under the grave circumstances. And don't say Palin.
As for making a decision on Afghanistan - book-learned and non-reactionary Conservatives agree that he is doing the right thing in taking time to consult with advisors from all points of view in order to make the right decision (as if a 'right' one even exists in that mess). I wish him much luck with that one. If I had to wrestle with that, knowing how many of our troops' lives hang in the balance, I'd have quit like Palin did. May the good Lord guide his hand. -

Some of the views expressed her are insane. Do some of you not watch the international news? I realise that there is no such thing as unbiased news anymore, so hopefuly any of you who want to be informed in your views watch at least two news channels and then deliberate the varied opinions.I recently attended a lecture by a BBC Correspondent who admitted that some of the least biased journalism features on Al Jazeera and he advised watching that channel with one other to see what the big picture really looked like.I'm guessing that, to many Americans on this site, such an approach is an affront to their sensibilities but until the most powerful country on the planet realises that it IS A PLANET AND MORE PEOPLE THAN JUST THEM LIVE ON IT, WITH THEIR OWN VIEWS ON LIFE, LOVE & CULTURE then we are only ever going get to conservative/Republican Americans trying to force their views on the rest of the world. Iraq Part Two was an illegal war, people - many of us supported our leaders in the committing of a war crime. Yes, we were lied to about WMDs and Iraq's links with Al Qaeda but the fact is our leaders committed a terrible action that they knew to be false and they are the public face of our nations.Afghanistan? A major shitstorm. Most of the newspapers have started calling for our troops to leave, saying it's a war we can't win (like there's any such thing) but if we leave a job half-finished (having politicised vast swathes of the country's men and women by being an external (invading?) force) then what chance do we have of improving the lives of Afghan people? And let's not get started on the American Government ramping up their military & nuclear presence in Colombia to enhance their opportunities of a "full spectrum" deployment in South America. What happened to the Nobel Peace Prize there, I wonder? All of my travels around America have involved watching FOX News out of morbid curiousity and it beggars belief that people actually go to this channel as a way of having their world view mediated. What is said on the channel ranges from the biased to the outright false and I can say that as an outsider who absorbs news via range of media outlets. Most of this would be quite funny if the vast swathes of Americans see FOX News as gospel. And most of it would be quite funny if you weren't the most miltarily powerful nation on the planet.

Huckabee and Romney. They have no illusions about the consequences of failure over there. I guess you could say McCain as well.
I was encouraged about Obama's initial moves in Afghanistan. No longer. I was ready to give him the benefit of the doubt but this guy knows only politics. He "took his eye of the ball" which he said he wouldn't.
I appreciate your honesty in your assesment of him because really...you were ready for this guy to walk on water. World leaders are not laying flowers at his feet. America's status in the world is,well...the same. And to top it off our kids and their kids have a monstosity of a debt to pay.
And he's only just begun :S -
That's right, Sarah Palin is the villain of US politics. It's all starting to make sense now.
-
American colleges are to the Palinites what the "librul media" is to Palin. They're here. They're dangerous. They want to infect the minds of Americans. Meanwhile the rest of us are scratching our heads wondering "What the hell? The liberal media? The same liberal media that stopped us from going into Iraq?" And I agree -- I'd rather have a President agonize over a decision to send 38,000 American youngsters into the hell that is Afghanistan than just close his eyes and throw 'em in there like they're paint splats on a four-year-old's canvas. As Dioxholster demonstrated, he and those of his mindset don't care how many of our troops get killed, because it would be "funny" to start all out war in the Middle East. Meanwhile, I wonder what progress Cylon made on answering my question. Did he feverishly Google until his fingers bled? Is he scanning "Going Rogue" for the half paragraph (or single sentence) on Palin's accomplishments? Is he pretending he's in Russia exchanging love letters on a dry erase board with Sarah in Alaska? Or is he just thinking on how "dangerous" and "revolutionary" it is to be a conservative youth and how he'll be on T-shirts someday like Che.

but remember what i said because liberals have brainwashed your brains. its not like i wanna send kids to die or suffer, i want them to get back home knowing they dont have to worry about a damn thing no more. and sending more troops to afganistans is more for them than us, since they will watch each other's backs and out number afgan evildoers. the is the world we live in folks, i dont like it but it is what it is and our only road to salvation is by defeating evil and winning back our pride so we can continue to spread happiness around the world.

Don't pick out your genuine crazies and try to say they're just being satirical to make your party look sane. Your side doesn't have the intelligence to be satirical, which is why Stephen Colbert, a flaming liberal, has to be satirical for you.

The guy (DioxholsterReturns), and I have no fucking idea if it even is a guy, is just trying to wind you up and it's working. He may not know it's called satire, he may not even know the meaning of irony, but he's not being serious. Your ignominy just feeds his amusement, surely you can see that? He has nowhere to go if you tickle his tummy.
-
If you fail at internet debates, I can imagine how you'd flame out at an actual debate. And DoctorWho, did you see the context in which I mentioned Iraq (a word I only said once)? It was in a context pertinent to the decision of hastily -- or with circumspect (as Obama is practicing now) -- sending more troops into war. Myself and the libbies here have backed up our arguments. You guys sound uneducated, which fits perfectly with the Palin base.
-
And I'm English, by he way, so have no idea who Stephen Colbert is, I'm afraid...is he a funny fucking guy, too?
-
but now its too late, and now its time to kill the virus with all we got chemotherapy style. I want to see a world free of war and to do that we must annihilate those who seek war. They will forever hate us for what we are, we are so different to them, do you want to wait till they grow strong and powerful and form an empire that will force us into slavery? fight in afganistan now, so this scenario doesnt take place in the future. but liberals are naive and dont see the repercussions of their decisions.

Diox, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

How woefully uninformed and willfully ignorant many of you lefties are about Iraq. Since you drug out that old-dead horse let me just throw a clarification to the stupidity I see repeated ad naseum.
"Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11": No shit. However, 9/11 made it a priority. Going into Iraq was about 23 DIFFERENT REASONS why Saddam posed a threat to our security...ALL formulated by Congress in October 2002! Read John Kerry's and Harry Reid's speeches as to why they approved of taking out Saddam. Go ahead, look it up.
The Bush administration — in easy hindsight, quite wrongly and stupidly in my opinion - focused strongly on only one reason: Saddam’s arsenals of weapons of mass destruction. In my opinion once weapons were not found in Iraq the case for the war collapsed on both moral and practical grounds. For some reason, no one cared that the other twenty-some Congressional causes were still as valid as when they had been first approved in October 2002. Was your head up your ass at this time?
"Bush's War": Again, not quite. There was little opposition to the war when it began, at least if public polls and congressional authorizations were fair indicators. Politicians who had adamantly railed about the dangers of weapons of mass destruction and the need not only to remove Saddam, but to stay and help the Iraqis, now either denied they had done so, or suggested they had been misled by cooked intelligence. And you didn't even notice did you?
There is SO MUCH to bitch about the Iraq war and the way it was mismanaged. At least be intellectually honest and factually correct before you start spouting stupid platitudes.
Now Obama has a chance to make a difference in the "good war" (Afghanistan) and is dropping the ball big time...not to mention the deficit. Where's the outrage? -

I fully endorse YackBacker's statements on Mrs. Palin.
by mr. nice gaius
He's pretty much nailed it when it comes to objectively assessing that farce of a politician. She is nothing more than a cult of personality...and it is truly frightening to think that there are Republicans/Conservatives who actually take her seriously.
-
Thanks for brightening my day gentleman. High comedy.
-
Well, there are many of those Mr Nice Gaius. I wouldn't neccesarily say she's polluting some kind of rareified air of other "legit" politicians.
That's just funny.
This most objective view I've heard has nothing to do with her experience, gender etc. Rather that she is the only voice out there that resonates with ordinary people who frankly don't give a fuck whether or not you went to Harvard Law school. She fills the vaccuum made by the impotent GOP...There is no one else out there saying what she says. Or so I read. They're all old, crusty hacks and re treads. Romney is the smartest guy in the room but he's also a cyborg straight out of central casting which I don't think most people can relate to.
We've already seen countless sycophants swoon over Obama and chant his name like dweebs at pep rally only now starting to sober up. How does that feel btw? That feeling the day after of looking over to see who you ended up in bed with by the clear light of day. Ouch. -
Quote: "Now Obama has a chance to make a difference in the "good war" (Afghanistan) and is dropping the ball big time..."I don't agree with that statement simply due to the fact that the ball was dropped about 5-6 years ago. Obama's decision about what to do with Afghanistan is of the upmost importance and he basically only has one chance (America's last chance) to get it right. So, I have no problem with Obama taking the time to review all the options and suggested strategies (he has already declined 4 scenarios that I'm aware of). And the statements made by the likes of Romney and Cheney on this matter are just plain stupid.I have little doubt that Afghanistan is poised to be the albatross around Obama's neck (kind of like LBJ and Vietnam). And no matter what he does, I'm sure our political punditry will flay him according to their respective party lines.
-
Your overview on the various shaved pussy styles was riveting. Yours is truly a towering intellect.
And why exactly am I an asshole? -
Sure, some people are excited by this fresh face. Obama was a fresh face too. Whatever a person's ideology or leanings, voters are going against incumbents and the status quo. Any politician running for re-election better take note that the people are fucking pissed.
But my issue with Palin as a politician has nothing to do with her experience or gender. I just think she's grossly overrated. She has talent but she's done little to add to national discourse. She's too busy talking about herself in direct and indirect ways. But that's what the media (conservative or liberal) want to talk about too. She'll throw a few winks and "rogue mavericks" into an interview, but honestly people are looking at her clothes & hair more than listening to her words. She's playing the game, but there's a limit to how far this game can go. This is a tough country for a woman to be taken seriously as a national leader. As of now, Palin has not done nearly enough to distinguish her intellect or rhetorical skills to make her an important politician. -
I think there is a difference between how Obama resonates with the people as opposed to Palin. There are a lot of things that could be said with regard to this but it basically boils down to his pragmatism and rather in-depth comprehension of the issues we face. As far as I'm concerned, Palin has displayed none of this.As for what's happening with Obama now, well, it's rather simple. It's called Washington D.C. It's always been the hangover of every President's "night on the town". I'm not the least bit surprised by the apparent stall in his momentum.
-
Thanks for the comments
Obama repeatedly said he would NOT take his eye off the ball in Afghanistan during the campaign. He ran on the theme of Afghanistan as the necessary war, Iraq the optional one. But he assumed the then-quiet front in Afghanistan would stay that way, while Americans would withdraw from what he deemed a hopeless effort in Iraq.
Ooopps! Just the opposite happened. The surge worked in Iraq. Afghanistan heated up. Now what?
He apparently does not want what has become a messy conflict with Islamists on his watch.

I will, for the conservatives in the room, offer this re: Obama
by yackbacker
He ran for President 4 years too soon. He needed more time building a knowledge of how Congress works. His time in the Senate was all too brief. I think Pelosi and Reid are not helping him in their approach either. I think the stimulus package was the wrong bill at the wrong time (it was a "grease the wheels of Congress" package mostly, a down-payment on getting Congress to "owe" the President, which is never a good way to govern).
I also think that Obama underestimated the effect of a jobless recovery on his agenda. That's a huge rookie mistake, a damnable one, in fact.
But all of that being said, Obama is offering solutions, moving the debate forward. He's dealing with an inept, corrupt Congress and he's learning a ton "on-the-job." Nobody has all the answers, and I will wait to see how he responds to his first year to decide if I still support him. But the GOP has offered nothing serious, nothing valuable and nothing worth considering on any of the big issues. They're sitting there waiting for shit to fall apart. That's not leadership. -
And Yack, damn, you're sure bringing your A game. Bravo!
-
Such as it is.

They're big balls too. It's not easy.

That's a very simple, obvious point that people like Palin cannot seem to admit. The country was a fucking wreck when Obama took office. Palin has the gall to say "I rate Obama a 4 out of 10"??? Look, you may hate the guy's politics, you may even hate the guy for some inexplicable reason (ahem, race?). But you have to give him the benefit of the doubt in the face of the HUGE FUCKING BALLS ON HIS PLATE. If Palin said "I refuse to rate him because the problems he face are not for one person to own or solve alone" I would have a hard-on for Palin in the intellectual sense. My other hard-on for her is dirty, and involves a lot of bukkake shots on her glasses.
-
Palin sat for that photoshoot AFTER her run as VP. She was already a national personality and thought "Hey, I'll show my legs." Sure, the photographer broke his contract by selling the image to someone other than "Runners Mag" (how does that mag stay in business when "Gourmet" goes tits-up???), but Palin should have known better in the first place. Or maybe she thought "People need to see my legs to they don't listen to the horseshit coming out of my mouth"- that would be a calculated and smart move on her part.
-
That's like Uwe Boll rating Akira Kurosawa a 4 out of 10. It's meaningless and another indicator that retardation is in her genes. And yeah, if she had said what you suggested, I would respect her. In fact, quite a few smarty pants Cons have things to that effect. They're just not popular amonst the fringe Right. Unfortunately.
-
The GOP is joke. They offer almost nothing. Hence Palin's popularity.
I subscribe to the description of the 2 parties: The stupid party (R) and the dangerous party (D). -
Obama automatically gets low marks NOT for handling things questionably but for doubling down on that monstorous stimulus clusterfuck nightmare.

Ever give any consideration to those?
Are you saying as of today...2009 that you figured it would be all paid off clean? Wow, that's some short term vision you've got there. Or are there perhaps other ways our investment in blood and capital is returned?
Big questions. Don't hurt yourself. -
Michelle Malkin makes my libido run away like Palin from the governor's mansion.

God Bless America and those two midgets that live under that overworked and underpaid tanktop.
-
I know you hate Palin and love Obama, but before these two people were on the scene... were you registered voters? Do you have certain political ideals that you like to see represented in Washington?
That's what it comes down to. People vote for who they think will best represent their ideal of what the country should be. At least, people with principles.
The right tends to favor small government and low taxes. The left tends to favor bigger government, and higher taxes.
Each election cycle, the two parties nominate a candidate who they feel will best represent those principles.
Seems the core principles of the TB'ers is "I make fun of people when I can't express myself intelligently". -

Quote: "He apparently does not want what has become a messy conflict with Islamists on his watch."Ha! Can you blame him? I wouldn't want to clean up Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld's mess either. As for the surge in Iraq, the increase in military presence there was NOT the sole cause of the surge's relative success. In fact, it fell in step with several other factors that took hold at almost exactly the same time (i.e. cooperation with local groups, political gains, truces, etc.). What happened in Iraq has not happened in Afghanistan; they are entirely different playing fields and not representative of a stock remedy solution.

was the late Jay Hammond, a Republican (to whom my great aunt was married), who argued that after the invasion and during the rebuilding of Iraq, its citizens should each receive an annual dividend from that country's oil wealth, much akin to the annual dividend Alaskan residents receive. "What the fuck does one have to do with the other? Because they're wars?" Um...YES!!! You brought up the "fiscal effects of war". Check. So I refered to the fiscal effects and investment of the biggest war of all...WWII. How is that some great leap of logic for you? Don't you think by turning and walking away would be more costly in the long run? I'm NOT just talking money here in case you can't grasp that.
There's no "my side" about it. If you can't bring yourself to see that Dodd,Frank,Waters et al are not above reproach in this than you are just not being intellectually honest. Just a partisan hack. -

I can't even believe you need schooling. I though you smarter but that's my mistake.
Japan pwned all of Asia and attacked the U.S. Germany pwned all of Europe. Both were committing genocide and unimaginable atrocities upon tens of millions.
You dare compare World War II to the Iraq invasion and the fight against the Al Qaeda and the Taliban?
The German and Japanese people were completely defeated as nations and rightly capitulated. The psychology is totally different from those in Iraq (especially) and Afghanistan. What, you thought the Iraqis and Afghans were going to be building cars and TVs in 10 years' time, like the Germans and Japanese?
Unlike you, if Obama and the Dems had started these wars, you bet your ass I would be blaming them. I'm more about actions and blindly not taking sides. But since you're a Michelle Malkin fan, I don't expect that same even-handedness from you. -
"Ha! Can you blame him? I wouldn't want to clean up Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld's mess either"
Just take a sec and analyze that statement. You think Obama should just dust off his hands and say "Not my problem" and walk away? What kind of imoral bullshit is that? Or do you think Obama would have it in him to say "I need to do the right thing" and listen to his military advisors and handle Afghanistan decisively? And you seriously believe Bush or Cheney etc CAUSED this mess (Terrorism, mid east dictatorships etc)out of thin air?
I've noticed that most people who have no historical sense of war and societies through the centuries spout off erroneous statements. On one hand they use blanket statements to throw over complex multi-faceted issues. And then they will envoke detailed-nuance and observe the many variables and "several other factors" when it's an issue they need to defend. "It's not that simple" they say. Yet it IS that simple when it comes to people on the "other side" as BSB likes to put it. -
Where did I compare the causes, reasons or purposes between these wars? The context in which you and I were speaking was of...your words "FISCAL EFFECTS".
Now dude, serioulsy...I don't care if you call me an "INSUFFERABLE IDIOT" But I do mind if you go switching context on me. Was that unintentional or were you just being a dick? -
I step away to get a beverage and all hell breaks loose in this TB.
cylon: Yes, people other than those with whom you agree have principles and political beliefs. They just happen to be different than yours, but like the female orgasm, they do exist. Trust me.
The Bush Wars: Some of you are mixing up the debate. Whether or not the war was justified, it was sold under false pretenses to the world- especially the cost of the war. Lawrence Lindsey eventually came clean and said that the war would cost hundreds of billions. He was soon no longer a member of the Bush Administration. Nice. Now, as for whether or not Iraq was a legitimate threat c. 2003, that's a completely different issue. I believe Bush believed it was a threat. But I also believe he made a tremendous error in judgment in believing in that threat. Even worse, he and his people hadn't a clue what a reconstruction effort would entail. That lack of foresight is criminal negligence, sorry. They sent people into harm's way without even a modicum of a plan beforehand.
World War II: Does not even remotely apply here- with respect to money being invested (remember, this was pre-military-industrial complex) nor justifications for fighting (the threat to America then was far more dire and immediate than anything that was happening in 2001-03, that includes 9/11, which has nothing to do with Iraq, as we all agree anyway). -
What is it about Malkin you don't like? Btw, I only "side with her" on a few things.
Just now noticed the language being thrown around here by you tolerant libs today:
"...because "your side" caused it" BSB
"Anyone capable of siding with a creature like Malkin should be hunted for sport." ebonic_plague
Note the divisive language of US and THEM. And the dehumanizing rhetoric of Malkin as a "creature". Not that her ideas are different...no no no. Rather she (or any conservative) is less than human. HHMMMM....some historical parallels come to mind.

Whoa, back up. I think you need to take a sec and re-analyze my statement. In no way am I implying that Obama should simply "dust off his hands and say "Not my problem" and walk away". I think you're assuming a bit too much from my rather casual comment. As for doing the "right thing" in Afghanistan, it's too bad Bush & Co. didn't take care of that when they had the chance. No, they let their grip on that military action slip when they allowed themselves to get distracted by the Iraq War (soldiers, money, resources...blah, blah, blah). As a result, we've had about 8 years of...dithering...as Cheney might say.Quote: "Or do you think Obama would have it in him to say "I need to do the right thing" and listen to his military advisors and handle Afghanistan decisively?"Are you suggesting that Obama is not saying/doing this?! Are you suggesting that he is not listening to his military advisors?! Curious...just what are you suggesting is the "right thing"?
-
I asked BSB if he thought the rebuilding after WWII was worth it. And money is the least of it!
One cannot possibly quantify the value of stabilizing these or ANY countries after war. BSB was in a huff because Iraq hasn't "paid for itself" yet. My point was beyond money. You can't put a price on a relationship with Iraq 50-100 years from now similar to our working relationship with Japan or Germany. A stable, functioning partner.I was hoping he would acknowledge that if/when it leads to such a relationship then damn straight it will be worth it!
Oh well. -

I never claimed to advocate tolerance for republicans, and I don't represent the democratic party. I only side with the democrats because they are the only party capable of stifling the GOP's systematic dismantling of the American way. You name an issue on which Malkin has expressed her view, it's a safe bet I'd disagree. I think Malkin is a truly evil person, and anyone who shares her ideas is a waste of oxygen. Would you advocate tolerance for Stalin's ideas if he was a cable news talking head? Just because someone can get airtime and attention for their repulsive views does not mean that their views deserve tolerance. -
President Obama does not face a hostile political opposition at home. Many Americans are undecided rather than against continuing the war.
You know republicans in Congress will support the administration's efforts to secure the country. Conservatives have no counterparts to Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan in their ranks to shriek about it. Most anti-war Democrats became quiet once Barack Obama was elected. And FACT: European NATO commanders want the U.S. to lead them to victory.
We have experienced soldiers and military leadership, a just cause and Western unity. In other words, we have everything we need to defeat the Taliban — except a commander-in-chief as confident about fighting and winning as he once was as a candidate.
Why is this?
-
Let's get this straight. Your concern about our fiscal crisis ends at Iraq and Afghanistan's doorsteps?
You think the invasion of Iraq is a more worthwhile investment and better use of money, debt (and troop lives) for America than, say, the economic stimulus and healthcare reform?
You believe the forced reorganization of Iraq and Afghanistan, in the remote hope that they will be "better" in the future, trumps the needs of Americans here and now? -
Victory. Period.
The Taliban needs to be stamped out to the highest degree possible.
When he says he wants "options" what other options do you think he means? There is only one option Win.
I'm serious...what "options" do you think he's talking about?
Obama risks giving the impression to the world that victory is not one of the options he’s considering. Victory, in fact, ought to be the ONLY option, and the question ought to be what strategy brings you to victory. But he gives the impression that victory’s been taken off the table, and that’s a terrible message, especially for the troops who are stuck out there, which isn’t the best place to be stuck in.
-
I mean, do they have any credibility left? I haven't seen Richard Perle's ass on any of the political commentary shows in ages. Don Rumsfeld is MIA, as with Wolfowitz, occasionally you'll see David Frum surface trying to put up a smokescreen by bashing Palin, hoping we'd forget about his fallacious foreign policy prognostications.I can't see how anyone can vote for any GOP candidate at this point. Fear not, Mrs. Palin is doing the dirty work for us by dividing the GOP constituency. District 23 in New York is only the beginning.
-
The ends justify the means. I say that with no angst or anger towards you- I'm simply pointing out that your defense of the Iraq war is based on these anticipated benefits of a post-Saddam Iraq. But the record shows that the Bush Administration sold the war to the world with "fuzzy math" for one, dubious intelligence re: WMD (I'll bypass any conspiracy theories here and accept that Bush was sincere in his concerns over the threat) and without any plan for the reconstruction phase, which resulted in thousands of American deaths, tens of thousands of Iraqi deaths and a drawn-out war that didn't have to happen the way it did.
I look at the Bush Administration and I see a vast amount of incompetence at high levels. Even worse, I see arrogance and among some a degree of contempt towards the American people re: the war. I think Bush would not have gone into Iraq if he knew how things were going to play out. I think he refuses to admit he made a mistake for numerous reasons (personal and in order to protect the office, in his mind). But all this talk of having an ally in the Middle East is pollyannaish to me. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are allies. They fucking suck at being our friends! -
How does one "stamp out" an ideology with military force? How is victory defined? A democratic oasis in Afghanistan and Iraq? What steps do the Republicans believe will achieve this?

SNL is too insular and redundant, wallowing in its own self-importance in a (occasionally successful) quest to form public opinion. It used to be about the funny. The more I watch SNL and re-runs of Mad TV, the more I wish SNL WOULD turn into Mad TV. Mad TV showed more imagination and took more risks in their shorter run than SNL has in decades. Sure, it was hit and miss. But overall, it was funnier than SNL is and has been for more than twenty years. (With all too few exceptions.)

Would you consider it a victory if one day Afghanistan were free of armed Taliban thugs running free, oppressing women, ruling by medevil, theocratic whim, and having a secre den to plot terror against Europe and other "infidels"? Doc, your arguments are end-oriented. You can't plan policy based on that calculation alone. The more immediate question is "What are your priorities now?" What needs our immediate attention? Afghanistan's 75 year-plan or providing a containment of the Taliban and a focus on domestic growth?
-
I'm sure you're used to it. As I said, I'm not interested in debating you. It accomplishes nothing, and you don't actually care about debate, you just want to play gotcha. And I'm sure there are many here who will indulge you, but I have more important things to do than do your research into the odiousness of Malkin's views on immigration (for one: she advocates that kids born here to immigrant families do not deserve citizenship, a right she herself benefitted from for her own US citizenship) among other issues. I'm sure not ALL of Stalin's policies were pure evil, just like some of Malkin's viewpoints might be benign (maybe she's against littering, who knows... Klansmen might be have legitimate concerns about immigration, it doesn't make them any less of repugnant assholes), but the (few to non-existant) policies on which her views are reasonable aren't what makes her an evil person, her batshit crazy opinions on everything else are. And those that agree with her or seek to legitimize her disgusting perspective with hypocritical appeals to all-inclusive "tolerance" deserve only the bottom of my shoe and a healthy serving of greasy yellow sinusitis. It's "no sympathy" night. It's "you're wrong" night.
-
Tone it down!
-
I don't mind debate. But you come at me with invective initially.Generally not a good ice breaker. If you're this congenial in real life my guess is you're probably regarded as an asshole.
Just to clarify: Someone who holds "batshit crazy opinions" makes them "evil"?
And btw, Malkin's stand is that children of ILLEGAL immigrants should not be granted automatic citizenship. Not all that radical really. Any less "evil" in your eyes now? -
Gobble gobble!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_ybEbrQeOA&feature=related -
To be regarded as an asshole by assholes is fine by me, I have no interest in making friends with dittoheads or their apologists. And, yes, I think Malkin is evil based on the evil shit that comes out of her mouth. Denying citizenship to the children of immigrants is, at the very least, immoral and un-American, if not straight up evil (like, say, proposing internment camps for certain ethnicities.) In a country where gay people loving each other under full protection of the law is considered an affront to decency and civilization, and taking steps to install a healthcare safety net for the less fortunate is considered treasonous socialism, I don't think calling out Malkin or Coulter or Limbaugh for being the evil, hateful, un-American SOB's that they are is in any way hyperbole. -

Let the record state that cyclon is a phony and full of shit! Last night I asked him a very simple question: how old are you and where are you from? I stated that I’m from Oklahoma and I’m 35. Coming from this part of the country I know his type to a tee. And I knew he wouldn’t even admit to that question b/c he’s a rat and completely and utterly full of shit. And of course he wouldn’t say either of the two.
-
Epic fail on every single point you just made. The level of sheer misrepresentation of every single issue you mentioned is astonishing. I knew you were incredibly ignorant but damn boy...that's the most cliched, cartoonish characterization I've see in many a moon.
Lao Tzu in the Art Of War advises you to know your enemy if you wish to be effective in defeating them. You've proved you don't know Jack.
From the top: Do you know the difference between an immigrant and an ILLEGAL immigrant? Do you think that distinction matters? If not why Einstein?
Do you think the actuall ILLEGAL immigrants here NOW would characterize their life in the U.S. (living, working etc) as equivelent of being in an internment camp?
No one gives shit if gay people love each other. We have lives to lead. Gay? So what...you're not special. You're in fantasy land. People wish to defend the institution of marriage from being redefined by a minority of people.Note the word DEFEND.
And lastly, no one's motive is to keep less fortunate people from accessing health care...Christ, as I write all this I can't really believe you actually think this shallow. The issue is the government forcing it's way between you and your doctor and handing the massively convoluted, complex health care system over to government...the biggest source of inefficiency, overspending, mismanagement and red tape you could ask for.
I don't give a fuck what your views are ebonic...honestly I don't. But you AT LEAST need to be accurate in framing the issue. Tell the truth THEN give your opinion. -

My previous question about core beliefs was really an open-ended question to everyone.. I thought I'd be so presumptuous as to pose a question of my own.
I'm a conservative and I vote for conservative politicians. Some I like more than others. When I vote, I don't do it "Because I hate Obama", I do it because I believe in the principles and policies of the candidate in question.
If I like what they say, I pay attention to what they do. If I like that, I vote for them. Pretty easy.
One thing I do as well, that I doubt many TBers here do, is watch commentary that is favorable to the other side. I don't say "goddamn, I'd never watch Chris Matthews if my life depended on it!" Another gift insult I stole from one of our great talkbackers!
Guys, we obviously don't agree on policy/ideology, but we don't need to disagree on the margins so much. That's why I try to engage people here with a steady hand. Why would I insult Malkin when I think people like Olbermann are equally wasteful in the overall debate? And that's one of the silly parts of what someone like Anita Dunn has contributed to Obama's Administration in making Fox News some sort of a scapegoat. What gets tossed around here in the TBs is a microcosm of the national debate- and it's leading to dead-end results. Will we change the world by being civil here? No, but as a habitual way of re-aligning our personal approach, we're hopefully adding something to the discourse that is lacking in Washington and in the national media. I don't watch ANY cable news anymore (unless something explodes or involves a Miss Universe contestant riding reverse-cowgirl in a sex video). But I do care about how people think, and I am even more interested in opposing opinions than just agreeing with people that share my own. -

... when Obama tried to claim as foreign policy experience the fact that he lived in Indonesia when he was TEN YEARS OLD? If Palin hd said that, we'd still be hearing about it; but the great Obama said it, so it was quickly forgotten. Does anyone remember when Charlie Gibson smilingly asked him, in their big interview, "When did you know Michelle was The One?" You can bet he didn't ask Palin anything like that. Does anyone remember when Obama spoke of "the 57 states?" What if Palin had said that? What if, during the campaign, their accomplishments were reversed? What if Obama were a governor of a prosperous state with an approval rating in the 80's, while Palin had spent less than a year of working days as a junior senator, with no major legislation to her credit but two (!!) memoirs? The Left's hypocritical obsession with Palin is always good for a laugh...
By the way, it appears man-made global warming is manifestly a hoax, according to the hacked emails of the British Climate Research Institute. I was always suspicious of Al Gore lecturing us from his Xanadu-like compound on how everyone in the country (except him, not him, never him) must alter our way of life to save the earth; but it's nice to know I was right. It's a good week for conservatives... -
That's the funny part of my joke. Imagine- China gets to double-dip- they benefit on the front-end by getting all of those oil rights as a result of a war that the US paid for and then they get the US debt on the back-end because we could never pay for the war. Fuck, I'm ordering my Rosetta Stone program to learn Mandarin as we speak...

Is it possible the folks on this board do not know? Let me edyamacate yas.
The Kennedy clan, that bastion of patrician American politicans, had, amongst their other famed progeny Joe Jr, JFK, RFK and so on a child named Rose. Rose was, how shall we put it, the slow one - an IQ of around 90. Not the brightest bulb but she wasn't Forrest Gump either. When she was 23, she was LOBOTOMIZED. Now, whether she suffered from psychological stresses (psychosis/ schizophrenia/whatever) or was simply a wayward child suffering from depression, I can not say for certain but I do know that Joe Senior referred to her as "retarded" (which she definitely was not) and other members of the family started the Special Olympics out of shame of what they did to her. Here's the real kicker and look it up out there when you don't believe me. She was CONSCIOUS when they drilled through her skull - had her recite the Pledge of Allegiance and such as they CUT THROUGH HER BRAIN, stopping when she became "non-lucid". Folks - that is fucked-up. -

I'll drop the TB veneer for a second to honor the impassioned plea by the noted_sage above, and I'll ignore the complete disgust I feel at dignifying the same-old GOP talking points with a response as if they were based on anything approximating logic or "good faith" debating, and address you not as a the dittohead this TB makes you seem to be, but as a movie-goer (Hell, despite the prevailing sentiment of AICN I'll even go so far as to say "movie-lover," based on the goodwill from Avatar TB's) with whom I share a forum... I just can't be bothered to go through all this left/right partisan divide stuff and try to rationally reply to hysterical straw man arguments yet again. It's the same thing in every remotely political TB going on a fucking decade now, and I am literally exhausted by the willful misunderstanding and endless "gotcha!" games that happens when TB'ers start playing "debate." Even the subjects that were once considered obvious common knowledge (say, evolution), we have to pretend that there is now a reasoned debate to be had. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if people started trying to debate both sides of the slavery issue again on cable news, and even less surprised to hear what kind of new justifications would surely be invented for it by certain commentators. I know it's not exactly on-topic for this TB (is there even a topic in here?) but, for me, there is no issue of gay marriage. If two consenting adults want to get married, it's nobody's business but their own. Kids will be fine, straight people will be fine, homophobes will be fine, marriage will be fine, society will be fine, end of story. I've heard all the arguments against and it's obvious they're just based on nothing more than bigotry. There is nothing left to debate... as a wise man once said before throwing a knife into another guy's chest, "Enough talk!" There is no convincing those that will not see, they simply want to deprive others of equal rights to make themselves feel better, and the only course of action is to marginalize them to the same fringe of irrelevancy as Klansmen and Michael Vick. The problem is that I still allow myself to get baited into posting to these TB's (inability to refuse to take the bait is one of the unfortunate uniting characteristics of most TBer's), but since I have no desire to bang my head against the impenetrable, invulnerable wall of GOP-endorsed straw man arguments YET AGAIN, I resort to mockery and sarcasm to express myself, out of despair at the realization that "any frontal attack on ignorance is bound to fail, because the masses are always ready to defend their most valuable possession- their ignorance." It's a "battle not with monsters, lest ye become one" scenario, as I'm beyond the folly of trying to convince fundamentalist dittoheads of their errors; I just want them and their poisonous legacy finished and finally relegated to the losing side of history where it inevitably belongs. HERE is my only concession; if you guys want to pretend you're having a reasoned debate, I'll pretend along with you, and I'll chime in only when I feel masochistic enough to actually rebuke any points that are coherently rational enough to treat as a legitimate attempt at actual, honest debate... Which I can't see happening anytime soon, on a website that is renowned for ignorant shrieking in a world where Sarah Palin is actually considered a serious candidate for anything beyond Prom Queen. But take it however you will, and feel free to gloat in my absence and invoke any Tzu you'd care to, though frankly, I'm getting too old for this shit, and so I'll leave this to you kids to google cherry-picked stats and bang your skulls together and call it civil discourse. It's really the only sane response to this ridiculous argument, even on a national level, and I hope it's the path that Obama and the democrats take over the next 7 years... ignore the critics, and just go do what needs to be done. Have fun storming the castle, and if Liberal_Warrior shows up, try not to get diseased macaque shit on you.

No one here has yet been able to explain to me why it's OK for blatant sexism, if, and only it, it's directed to a Republican or a conservative. You would never say these things about Hilary Clinton or Michelle Obama...
-
I also pointed out that Palin posed for those pictures after the 2008 campaign to show how she should have known better. Does her poor judgment in this instance excuse NEWSWEEK? Absolutely not, they're a shitty publication all-around (I mean wow, they had a story today about the worst comedians working, wtf?). But I would criticize Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton for doing the same thing if they were in this situation. Women are objectified and marginalized based on their gender constantly. And in politics, it's even worse. Maggie Thatcher wouldn't have posed in her running shorts if the end of the Soviet Empire depended on it. She is the model for behavior (or behaviour) by a female politician. Palin did not invoke Thatcher when she posed for that Runners photoshoot, for shame.

G100, how can you even say with a straight face that you
by coughlins laws
think Palin is treated fairly. I'm not even going to argue about her politics or whether she will ever be President (I don't think she will even run). However, it's not even arguable she is the most attacked political figure of the last decade and is treated very unfairly. Barack Hussein Obama got very positive coverage in last year's campaign and Palin has gotten almost 100% negative coverage. Obama put out two books that the media largely ignored. Meanwhile, the AP assigned 11 reporters to "fact-check" her book (while only paying for one copy, she may have a copyright infringement case). Everyone hear has to at least concede what over 60% of the country admits they already know, that she receives extremely negative and unfair coverage, and scrutiny over her so-called lack of experience that Obama never got...
-
I'm talking about the way you're attacked. If you're attacked in a way that a man wouldn't be attacked, it's sexist. Joe Biden, Al Gore, or John Edwards would NEVER be put on the cover of Newsweek in a pair of shorts. As far as Mary Landrieu, the term calling someone a whore or prostitute for being bought off has been used against women AND men alike. She sold herself out and showed a lack of principles and was bragging about it. She showed herself that she can be bought off. The term "prostitute" and "whore" are not specifically used towards women and if the last holdout was a man instead of a woman who's vote was bought off for $300 million, they would be a whore, too...
-
Magazine. It was inside on an article about the amount of running she did. It's totally inappropriate for Newsweek, a so-called legitimate news magazine, to put that particular picture on the cover when the story is about policy, NOT her physical fitness. They decided in that moment that they weren't a serious news publication anymore and became a cheap tabloid that will put exploitation pictures on the cover to sell copies...

But there's another aspect to the story, which I also get into- Palin (unwittingly) put herself into that position by posing for the Runner's World magazine article in the first place. Did she need to show off her legs in order to convey her dedication for running? No. She's proud of her body, but she's not a professional athlete, she's striving to become a national politician. She made a poor decision to pose for that picture in the first place. NEWSWEEK is shameful, but along with that Palin is also at fault, for the reasons described above.

Bullshit Coughlins Laws Obama was savaged by the Media.
by ganymede3001
I don't know why Conservatives keep perpetuating the myth that Obama was treated fairly by the media. From day one the media said he couldn't win because America wasn't ready for a Black President. They predicted that he would be pulverized in the Iowa's caucuses "since there was very few Black voters in Iowa". Then the media turned him into the Black candidate instead of a Presidential candidate . Every lead story was "can the Black Guy win" instead of focusing on his issues. Shortly after the Jeremiah Wright tape leaked everyone was lambasting him for being a member of his church. This was the lead story for months on CNN,FOX,& MSNBC. For months the media played Jeremiah Wrights inflammatory comments so that every White person in America knew that he was Barack Obama's pastor. For months the media would talk about and play Obama's comments about small town voters in middle America. I've never seen anyone get savaged during a campaign more the Barack Obama. Sarah Palin accused of being a everything from a Terrorist to Hitler. And the media played this comments from Palin about Barack all day every day. So I'm calling bullshit on your fallacious assessment of Barack's media treatment. It's a fucking myth.
-
I predict it will be Romney.
By the way, I appreciate your candor re: Palin's inexperience. I remember during the campaign, a reporter asked Carly Fiorina if she thought Palin could be a CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation, to which she replied "Absolutely not... but she's not running for that position!" Yikes. Look, all arguments about Obama's inexperience aside, McCain's choice of Palin as a running mate was pretty negligent. Yeah, she ran a state- a state that is smaller than my home county, and a state that has very unique concerns, which do not necessarily inform those of the entire country. If she wants to be a national candidate, she has to do her fucking homework. So far, she's not coming close to fulfilling that obligation. -
Now, I gotta find me a dustball floozie who is willing to to play pseudopods with an Amoeba!

unknown. I think it definitely has to be someone not currently in D.C. I think Obama is giving whatever candidate emerges a ton of ammo to run against him with. I wouldn't mind Romney being President, but I would not go out of my way to support him. If it was Obama vs. Romney, Romney definitely gets my voted. However, he's definitely not my first choice. I would like to know more about Tim Pawlenty. I like the Governor of Louisiana, but he is still too young. I'm not sure yet. 4 months ago I thought Mark Sanford was a front-runner so who the hell knows with these politicians... You know, the truth is, I lived in Florida for about 3 years and I always liked Jeb Bush. unfortunately, he has a poisonous last name right now. If he wasn't a Bush, he would be the front-runner right now. He was the Bush son that should've been President. He, unlike his brother, is a policy wonk and I think would've been a better President. However, in 1994, both he and George ran for Governor of their states, W won and Jeb lost. If they both won that year, I think Jeb would've run in 2000 and would've been better than W at a lot of things. I actually think he could be the VP candidate and win in 2012...

I read an interview with him a few months ago. The reporter went to meet him at his office (post-governor's gig) and described how Jeb had no staff, he pretty much did his own thing, reading The Huffington Post and critiquing his own party. He definitely got the brains out of the bunch, but yeah, he'll likely never become a presidential nominee.
But you're talking along good lines. In order for a candidate to run successfully against Obama, he or she needs to be engaged on the policy side of the issues. That person needs to care about policy, not diminish it outright like Palin does in her quasi-libertarian manner. The GOP needs a leader who can articulate solutions that make sense- solutions that come from the federal government. Maybe they're small-scale, but they need to be concrete. Sitting back and waiting for Obama to fail may give the GOP ammo, but the people know better than to trust someone who is running out the clock. Until the GOP gets on board with addressing problems seriously, whatever gains they may enjoy will be short-lived and inconsequential. -

Most of those accomplishments are made possible by economic trends (tax cuts, energy exploration) due to the energy market prices soaring starting in 2003. Look, I've said before that she has raw talent, she's likable on a personal level, but she's not a sober politician by any stretch. She got her tail whipped in those news interviews because she's not into policy, she's into attention. She basically lied when she said she was ready to assume office if McCain croaked. She's a saleswoman to me. Look, I assume you think Ronald Reagan was a good president (if not great). Compared to Reagan, Palin is an amateur. Reagan spent time honing his political beliefs. He paid his dues and governed a substantial state before running for President. Palin is not a realistic choice for the GOP, I'm sorry to be rough about it, but she's a fucking personality at best. -

PALIN: She says her team overseeing the development of a natural gas pipeline set up an open, competitive bidding process that allowed any company to compete for the right to build a 1,715-mile pipeline to bring natural gas from Alaska to the Lower 48.
THE FACTS: Palin characterized the pipeline deal the same way before an AP investigation found her team crafted terms that favored only a few independent pipeline companies and ultimately benefited a company with ties to her administration, TransCanada Corp. Despite promises and legal guidance not to talk directly with potential bidders during the process, Palin had meetings or phone calls with nearly every major candidate, including TransCanada.
___
PALIN: Criticizes an aide to her predecessor, Gov. Frank Murkowski, for a conflict of interest because the aide represented the state in negotiations over a gas pipeline and then left to work as a handsomely paid lobbyist for ExxonMobil. Palin asserts her administration ended all such arrangements, shoving a wedge in the revolving door between special interests and the state capital.
THE FACTS: Palin ignores her own "revolving door" issue in office; the leader of her own pipeline team was a former lobbyist for a subsidiary of TransCanada, the company that ended up winning the rights to build the pipeline.

"Palin vs Obama: Approval gap shrinks to a FEW POINTS"
by starship captain
Suck it, Libs. From today's LA TIMES:SARAH PALIN vs. BARACK OBAMA: APPROVAL GAP SILENTLY SHRINKS TO A FEW POINTSNot that it matters politically because obviously she's a female Republican dunce and he's obviously a male Democratic genius. But Sarah Palin's poll numbers are strengthening. And President Obama's are sliding.Guess what? They're about to meet in the 40s.Depending on which recent set of numbers you peruse and how the questions are phrased, 307 days into his allotted 1,461 the 44th president's approval rating among Americans has slid to 49% or 48%, showing no popularity bounce from his many happy trips, foreign and domestic.Riding the wave of immense publicity and symbiotic media interest over her new book, "Going Rogue," and the accompanying promotional tour, Palin's favorable ratings are now at 43%, according to ABC. That's up from 40% in July. One poll even gives her a 47% favorable. Most recent media attention has focused on the 60% who say she's unqualified to become president. Her unfavorable rating is 52%, down from 53%, which still doesn't ignite a lot of optimism for Palin-lovers.On the other hand, 35 months before the 2008 election, that Illinois senator was such a nobody that no one even thought to ask such a question about him. Things seem to change much more quickly these days...http://tinyurl.com/yjv92sz
-
you have been warned!
-
...And the best thing the Democrats have going for them.
Please, RUN HER in '12. She'll be annihilated in the first debate when she's asked how much of her Presidency she plans to finish before bowing out, as with her Alaska governorship.
And she's not just a zombie, but a political singularity, too...a gravity well yanking the entire GOP to the right when they desperately need to move to the center, where all the swing voters are.
I'm starting to fall in love with her... -
Reagan had a 48 percent approval rating by his first November as president (that's after getting shot) -- and he went on to become the iconic hero of the right, someone who each GOP candidate in 2008 was claiming to be the reincarnation of. By 2012 the economy will have improved (as bad as it is now it's finally stabilized). Congress is working on passing health care and has a jobs bill coming through the pipes as we speak, a bill that will likely be the hot button issue of 2010 and will undoubtedly get zero Republican votes.
If Obama is such a failure - why does he keep overcoming every hurtle that the right says will cripple him? First they said the health care bill wouldn't escape committee -- it escaped FIVE fucking committees. Then they said it would not pass the House by the scheduled vote a couple weeks ago -- it passed ON SCHEDULE. Then they said it would not have 60 votes to pass to the Senate floor for debate -- it got the 60 votes and is on the floor as we bitch and quibble here in a TalkBack! And all the while the right said the Public Option would not survive committee, the House vote, or the Senate vote -- yet that little fucker has managed to hang the fuck in there!
And for people who say Obama can only read speeches (yet they compliment the eloquence of the speeches) -- he has written his most pivotal speeches himself; from the race speech that was responsible for him surviving the Wright disaster that should have destroyed him; to his August 2008 DNC convention speech where, in response to McCain's claim that he will follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell, candidate Obama uttered with Samuel L. Jackson-like fury -- "How will you follow Bid Laden to the gates of hell when you won't even follow him to the cave where he lives?" The best way to gauge someone's intelligence is THROUGH the written word. It's why we consider people like Cormac McCarthy geniuses and people like Stephanie Meyer idiots with a typewriter.
So while Obama, as you've admitted, can read a good speech, at the most pivotal moments in his political life -- including the 2004 DNC speech that made him a known figure and even had Hillary Clinton standing and clapping thunderously in the bleachers -- it has been his own words he's spoken. Contrast that with Palin's breathless, unintelligible ramblings on the stump, or her resignation speech as governor; once you've done that, you have NO BUSINESS comparing the questions of intelligence the media has or has not directed at these two politicians. You know why Palin couldn't tell Katie Couric what publications she reads? Because, at the time, she didn't even read the local fucking newspaper! So don't compare her to Obama and don't compare her to Reagan -- people who actually had or have a history of reading newspapers and books. -
...And if, as a Republican, that doesn't send a chill up your spine but instead makes your chest swell with pride, so much the better.
Joke's on you, elephant man. -
Oh well, anyone like lesbians? *crickets* (sigh) Dead.
-
Ah yes, the mantra of the moron. It's cracks like that which make me wonder whether I should bother catching up with this TB.
-
If Palin is going to take that picture, it's fair game. No-one made her do it and what's more it was taken AFTER her rise to fame. The article is about what a PROBLEM she poses. What better way to illustrate it than that ridiculous photo?
-
What are people approving of? Her behavior as a media celebrity?
-
Thanks for the chuckle.
-
In and of itself the photo is fine. It's harmless. She's an attractive woman and a runner. The context in which Newsweek uses the photo is what is so blatant. But still, Palin supporters shouldn't be so uptight about it. She's a woman ...expect it.
Newsweek is as blatant as Fox News in their bias (though they insist otherwise). What is fascinating is why they would stoop to such grocery store tabloid tactics. 2 reasons as far as I can tell. Palin on cover=more sales. And despite the dismisal they really fear her. Weird. -
Humans cry because the people who try to make this world a better place get the shaft while the little demons among us run amuck.

But hey, Palins "little retarted baby" is fair game. I've passed the point of shock about this stuff a long time ago. -
And they thought Clinton was hot, too.

Looked like it was an accident, though. Like someone was throwing it for her to catch, 'cause she said, "I didn't know they were being thrown," or something like that. I don't hate her, but she's a flatulent horny bag and watching her make sexual advances towards younger men on her cooking shows is nausea-inducing.
-
And Bill played it full on. Can't blame him.
-
Oh yeah, I agree. Her show is painful to watch. She comes off as dumb as a post.
-
If you're the front runner - the job of those who're trailing you is to attack, attack, attack. Hillary attacked him daily for 7 months straight. Everyday she aired her dirt on Obama to any and every camera and microphone in sight. McCain and Palin attacked him during each and every media appearance they had. Once again, for months every news outlet was focusing on Obama's negatives. FOX news never had any positive coverage of him, and I'm sure you only watch Fox news. Once again, insinuating Obama was treated fairly is a complete myth.
-
Are you insunuating he was treated UNfairly?
You're absolutely right about McCain,Hilary etc. It's a dog fight and they ALL participated in it.
I think the adulation the press threw on Obama is obvious. Do you remember Oberman and Matthews pratically ejaculating all over themselves? The things they said are embarrasingly giddy.
In a way, it's not too suprising...after all the guy was going to be the first black president so there is an obvious 'story' to be covered. -

Celebrities have learn to take bad press as the price of courtin
by g100
Palin's on a book tour. She did wall to wall interviews and courts publicity assiduously. I'm sure Tom Cruise wasn't pleased that he came across as a douche on Oprah but thems the breaks when you do the publicity circuit.
She Quit as a politician remember. So she's a celebrity looking for book sales and had beter get used to the fact that celebrities don't always get favourable press no matter ho hard their PR agents work. Playing the eternal victim just comes across as desperate.
I welcome her continuing self promotion efforts as she will always be a source of the finest comedy. But taking her seriously as a Politician ? No chance. And the GOP knows it but simply doesn't have anyone to front their message yet so lets Fox News and Palin appease the GOP Teabagging birther base while they try to work out how to get back to mainstream politics and who they can get to do it.
And yes, I agreee it might be Romney but the longer the GOP leave the field to the fringe voices the harder they will have to work to get back to winning the centre, independents and those not on the Palin wing of the GOP. -
He makes Clinton look like JFK.
-
And McCain had Rush, Britt Hume, Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barnes, Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto, pretty much everyone at Fox News shilling for him everyday. And Fox News is the #1 cable news channel in America. Also, ABC and George Stephanopoulos discarded all journalistic standards before, during, and after the highly publicized ABC debate where they made him answer to every sleazy rumor, negative hearsay and disparaging innuendo surrounding his character. I've never seen a President get asked those type of questions. Last but not least. If President Obama's Grandfather was a director at a Bank that was indicted under the trading with the enemy act for doing business with the Nazi's, believe me, Fox News would would have an everlasting feeding frenzy, and would label him the "Grandson of a Convicted Nazi Sympathizer". Even Tim Russert accosted him with questions about how close is he to Louis Farrakhan and the nation of Islam. Once again, Obama wasn't treated fairly by the media at all. The media made it a Black VS White issue. By soley focusing on how people voted based on their race. Never in the history of politics have I personally seen the issue of a candidates race, not his policies be the main topic of discussion.
-
But that's what you righties do. I said "jobs bill." Read it again retard.
-
The biggest GOP blog out there, Red State, did savage Obama's daughters when photos of them surfaced in Europe a few months back, including one of Malia wearing a shirt with a peace sign on it. It got so bad with bloggers calling a ten year old girl things like "ghetto trash" that the mods finally had to remove the thread and the photos.
-
If your so digusted by such behaivior...why do you engage in it?
That question applies to most here. Why one family and kids fair game but not the other?
-
Sorry dude.
Still worth a chuckle. Tell me...do you think the "jobs BILL" is really going to create jobs? Do you think the government creates the jobs in this country? -
Dude, his perceived race was packaged and peddled by the media.
The media overlooked many things. Remember he promised that he would accept both public funding and the limitations that went along with it? At the last second he bowed out.
The Obama campaign gained a four-to-one advantage in campaign funding in most states. The media also ignored the fact that huge amounts were raised involving foreign donors, prepaid credit cards, and false names.
Well guess what...public financing of the presidential general election is now dead! Obama destroyed it. The Democratic Party bitched and railed for over three decades insisting this was critical for the survival of the republic... and Obama put a bullet in it.

DoctorWho you obviously don't know Federal election laws.
by ganymede3001
Obama's average contribution was 50$. Under the current law any donation less than $200 dollars during an election cycle doesn't require the names of the donor to be identified. That was law as in existence well before Obama ever took office. I only donated $100 dollars to his campaign, as did countless others, so my name wasn't divulged either. Does that mean I'm a terrorist? No it doesn't, it's silly that Conservatives have reduced themselves to such pettiness. The campaign donations reflects the massive crowds he was able to attract in every state he campaigned in.

What exactly are you talking about? You miss the point by 500 miles.
Obama went back on his word. He said it was because Republicans would exploit loopholes in the system by pouring money into outside entities that would subject him to "smears and attacks." His solution?...To do it first. THAT is hypocrisy of the highest order.

Imagine how the left would react if their president and his children were attacked by the right!" You guys do it all the time Doc -- from YOU calling Obama's ethnicity his "perceived race," to the right trying to de-Americanize him by calling him the Kenyan, to Fox News referring to the FIRST LADY OF THE UNITED STATES simply as "Obama's babymomma," to calling the daughters ghetto trash, the list goes on and on. The entire tea-bagger movement which is currently purging all moderates from the GOP is founded entirely on a thinly veiled current of racism -- oh yeah, and taxes. Never mind we got a tax cut under Obama. What, teabaggers don't mind paying taxes -- as long as it's a white administration collecting them? Explain that to me. Hell, just the other day Dan Sullivan -- the Republican mayor of Alaska's largest city -- said, after shaking hands with Obama when he came to Anchorage to greet the troops, that he had to check to make sure he still had his wallet. Quit playing the victim until you guys can stop your own personal attacks on the President and his family.

McGoo, CreepyThinMan, BSB, Dickblood, to name a few have spent considerable time savaging Palin and her family. I don't even know the names of her (or Obama's)kids. Sorry...I don't "scan talkbacks" nor cut and paste quotes and build dossiers on you bozo's but I've been here for about 10 yrs and I know the usual suspects.
Don't change the subject. By your reasoning if someone gloats over Palin's "retard baby" then it is fair game for me to savage Obama's kids right? What? WRONG! I don't do it because it's not in my DNA. It's childish. It's disgusting and it says A LOT about the character of those of you who would.
"You guys do it all the time Doc " Are you fucking 12 years old? "WAAAA 'you guys'started it Doc!" What you're saying is that is not a matter of ones values or character which keeps one from stooping to such reptillian behaivior...but whether or not your able to point the finger at someone and say "They did it first! Nyaa Nyaa!" Brilliant.
You and BSB both throw out antecdotes of "somebody" saying "something" "somewhere" about Obama ...and THAT is your justification? Christ, I could match you antecdote for antecdote all day long. How stupid.
If you didn't say something about her then good for you. But you have the gall to sit here and justify it? To endorse it?
Weak. -
is that you're justifying the right's attacks on the Obama family by saying it happens to the Palins. My god you can't see beyond the confines of your own thick skull, can you. I never justified those attacks on Palin and her family -- I called you out for COMPLETELY OVERLOOKING that the Obamas have themselves been savaged. And not simply savaged by a few people in an SNL talkback, but by conservative activists on popular GOP websites, by teabaggers at their KKK rallies in Washington, and worst of all by GOP politicians from Alaska to D.C. And what did you mean by Obama's "perceived race"? That's just another comment to dehumanize him. If he's not either simply black or simply white, he's nothing, right? Your ilk did that all throughout the '08 campaign.
-
What kind of outrage do you have about Van Jones accusing whites of polluting black neighborhoods and having a greater propensity to kill in schools? You're on board with that aren't you? What if a Bush White House czar claimed blacks were racial polluters or prone to kill?
Are we going to throw antecdotes back and forth now?
I have to expose you for engaging in lazy thinking. In your fear adled brains the GOP members are closet Klan members with lawn jockey's in their yards. Why? because when inevitably some whackadoo (there are many out there you know) makes a sign or shouts some bullshitat a rally... that somehow proves unequivocally that anyone right of center is in favor of lynching blacks. Brilliant deductions there guys.
At that point you jump up and down with glee pointing and saying " SEE...THEY DID IT NOW SO CAN WE!! YYAAAAAA!"
Gather yourself.
Virtually nothing pisses me off more in this universe than racism. I would punch someone in the mouth if I heard them saying racial slurs about the prez. I'm not being facetious.
So when I saw TBer's here trying to characterize Rev Wright as some advocate of advocacy for Martin Luther King-style American integration I wanted to puke. Call it what it is ACROSS THE BOARD or don't call it out at all.
-
What did you mean about the president's "perceived race" when you implied that the media manufactured it. Go back and read your comment about "perceived race" and enlighten us.
-
And I appreciate you comments btw. I like the direct, no holds barred questions. I love to clarify this shit.
By "perceived race" I mean this: I don't give a flying fuck about skin color. I've said it here before...the color of your skin(or ANY ethnicity) means about as much to me as the color of your socks. So... I don't "perceive" or view Obama through a racial prism at all. But damn, eveyone else seems to give a shit. "He's black" someone says. "No he's not REAL black...his mom was white." says another".
The ONLY thing that matters is your character and your values.
That's it.
And dude, I don't go to "GOP websites" and "KKK rallies" so whatever. You DO REALIZE that we live in a country of over 300 million people and you will ALWAYS have this element right? You DO realize that all of these cretins are not republicans right? You DO realize that for every single anecdote, website hate, and rally you mention can be matched by with an opposing example right?
That way leads to madness. -
What about Van Jones? You too BSB...lay it out there. I want to know what you guys actually VALUE.
-
lash out when Pelosi was called a *cunt* on here? No. Yet you expect me to apologize for everything third parties say about Palin -- and even lump me in with the accused. But you, the great moral authority, who himself engaged in so-called sexist banter regarding Palin right here in this TB (while I have not), expect me to assume responsibility for what I haven't said. I don't expect you to apologize for how people other than you might savage the Obamas or Pelosi or other Dems, but I will call you out when I hear words coming straight from you that seem aimed at dehumanizing the president. If Obama is the product of a black parent, and the life he has lived is his own, as it is, then you or anyone else are in no position to decide for him what he chooses to call himself. A man's identity is his pride, and any outside attempt, even the slightest, to call that identity into question should be looked upon with shame. I don't like it when people say he isn't an American, but I REALLY hate it when people assume they have a say in the man's racial identity.
-
I believe I've answered your question about Van Jones. I don't care who said what as a member of this administration or that. I look at that President's policies. And when I think about Bush, in regards to race and Bush's sensitivities to race, I think of only one word: Katrina. Bush = Johnny on the spot when a hurricane hits Florida. And MIA when a hurricane hits Louisiana. So far I've yet to see an Obama policy or lack of action negatively effect anyone largely along the lines of race.
-
I don't believe Bush's fumble on Katrina was largely due to race, but rather economic standing. The victims of Katrina were mostly black, and mostly poor, while those in Florida largely comprised Bush's political base. Mostly white and affluent, at least more so than the Katrina victims.
-
How much clearer can I possibly be?
Here's the Irony of YOUR post: "Yet you expect me to apologize for everything third parties say about Palin". Hardly.
That is EXACTLY what you and BSB seek from me. You throw anecdotes out there and expect either an explanation or justification. Sorry, I don't have one other than those people are assholes.
I read the later posts about someone calling Pelosi a cunt and did not read it first hand. And frankly, noticing and isolating that ONE comment amongst an avalanche of vitriol and invective on this site is like finding a needle in a haystack. It's just one sinle-note in a very bad symphony.
If a man's racial identity and ethnicity is a source of pride for him then great! Good for him. I think that is important to many people and would never deny anyone the perogative. How could I?
But his pride is HIS. No one elses. I America we recognize rights and worth in INDIVIDUALS, not categories, and particularly not dubious, pseudo-scientific categories such as race.
People claomor "Don't judge me based on my race!" and in the same breath declare " You must consider my racial status!"
Hell don't listen to me. Just youtube some MLK.
And I simply can't believe you take my obvious lame shtick of "laying some Alaskan pipeline" as anything other than the parody it obviously is. I even included a 'rim shot' and stated that "I'll be here all week" like a two bit stand up comic. I even told coullin I was working on my open-mic shtick. Either your humorless or ultra-sensitive. Or both.
-
rehash Katrina but the uttlerly simplistic and shallow analysis of "Bush just hates black people" exposes zero intellectual honesty. Katrina was a horrible, mismanaged clusterfuck on MANY levels ALL OF WHICH WERE GOVERNMENTAL. The same govemental skillfullness that has run the postal service into the ground and which you would doubtless entruust the super complexities of the health care system to.
And what about Bush's efforts in Africa helping more than 2 million people infected with HIV get treatment? They received lifesaving anti-retroviral treatment as part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Sometime back in '08 Bush signed legislation to expand it up to $48 billion. He is beloved for this in Africa. Obama even praised Bush for this.
But George Bush hates black people right? I know, I know.
-
I'm at work doing 12 things at once. But I also wanted to mention that Bush's help in Africa was hardly motivated be helping "affluent" and "white". Regardless of what you or I think about organized religion...if his (and millions of others)Christian beliefs motivate that kind of caompassion and altruism then I'm all for it. My heart goes out to the victims of some of the horror stories I've heard about HIV in Africa.
-
Talk about laying it thick.
-
From the AP---Liberian singer Juli Endee thanks Bush...told The Associated Press recently "if you were to take a survey, you would find that there is not one Liberian that doesn't love George Bush."
Must be true then eh? After all, some douche bag at an Obama rally carries a nasty sign and therefore ALL conservatives are Nazi, racist, bigots right?
Hey man, YOUR logic. Not mine. -
A singer says that in his personal opinion, in a hypothetical survey (not an actual one), he thinks Liberians would love George Bush.
And from that we get Bush is beloved in the entire continent of Africa?
Yeah, that's thick. -
You know exactly what Doc Who meant, shitstain. Enough with the coy.
-
That's a movie I wanna see.
-
Which is why no one likes arguing with you -- you put words in people's mouths. I never said he hates black people, not like that dipshit Kanye West. My post painted a basic insensitivity Bush has to the plight of the less affluent in our country, most of whom happen to be minorities. During Katrina he was so detached that that single horrific incident defined his presidency. Yes, he's done wonders on the AIDS crisis in Africa -- but what did he do for America? Please, tell me and I'll consider why you think he's so great while when he left office only 30 percent of Americans approved of his presidency. You know who that 30 percent became? The hardcore teabaggers. The only intellectual dishonesty displayed in this TB has been you intentionally misquoting people, taking them out of context, and putting words in their mouths just to help bolster your argument. If you have to lie to help yourself over and over again, it starts to become poitless to keep this back and forth going.
-
What's with you Republicans calling people Nazis? Can you back that up? What about BSB makes him a Nazi? Did he conquer Europe and kill 6 million Jews? My grandfather fought in WWII and if he was alive and conerned himself with the quibbles of intellectual deficients who blindly sling insults on the internet, he would certainly be justified in calling you a dumb fuck.
-
You stated twice that Bush's 'policies' affected people largely because of race. Dude, just call it like you see it. That's a weak way of saying he's a bigot. How the hell else would one interpret that?
-
...I agree that SNL, along with everyone else, is scared not to kneel at the altar of Obama. But it isn't even because of his politics...no one got skewered more than Bill Clinton (my hero).
Is it because he's black, so anyone who doesn't love him is racist? I don't know, but it is weird and creepy and my friends get pissy if I say anything less than love about Obama. (but I did vote for him).
I actually came here to see if SNL (on my DVR) was funny, but that's not what I found... -
"I don't believe Bush's fumble on Katrina was largely due to race, but rather economic standing." - me from earlier. In this country, economic disparities have fallen mainly along racial lines -- they have since 1619. It's a fact that Bush mostly looked out for the rich, hence his trillion plus dollar tax cut for the wealthy that wasn't paid for. And in looking out for the rich, his policies neglected the poor, who are mostly minorities. You need to learn to process what you read and form a coherent response instead of sounding, dare I say, angry and unhinged.
-
I thought SNL was pretty funny - so did most. The main critiques I heard were the usual here and there. "SNL needs better writers, blah blah blah." But most everyone seemed to agree Joseph Gordon-Levitt was a good host -- lots of energy and enthusiasm. Gordon-Levitt's monologue pretty much sets the stage for the night. Some decent sketches were the Obama-China opening, Samberg-Thompson Digital Short, Jack Johnson's Mellow Show, and Whatup Wit Dat? (surprisingly). A few misses, but overall it was a masterpiece compared to January Jones last week.
-
I can't believe peopel re still here, but Dirk if you're reading this -- I just Googled "Obama foreign policy experience Indonesia 10 years old" and got a bunch of articles about it. It absolutely happened. Check it out, and happy Thanksgiving!
-
Well, if it is LARGELY NOT due to race then how much IS due to race? You're obviously infering it IS a factor among others. What percentage of race enters into the equation?
And regardless how is the dismissal of swaths of the people based on economic status any less despicable? Your premise is basically that he is an unsympathetic monster. Not that I care but it is rather presumptuous.
I don't know why the Bush administration is seen as the ONLY culpable party for the Katrina mess. And moreover for completely insidious and dispicable motives which you cite.
I find it amusing that most people like you completely overlook the local government and wonder why the brontosaurus of the federal government didn't leap into action instantaneously like a group of ninjas.
How much blame do the inept mayor and the Louisiana governor get for the social chaos we saw in New Orleans? They NEED those people's votes so they don't have the luxury of 'dismissing' them in the callus way you attribute to Bush.
Perhaps they're just inept. Yes, that's it.
-
I didn't overlook the local government, just didn't mention it since we were discussing PRESIDENTS. Mayor Nagin is one of my least favorite people in the world, as dumb as Bush, Bush who should not have put a crony in charge of FEMA, FEMA which under Bush distributed thousands of toxic trailers to Katrina survivors. Bush's presidency was rife with so-called "Katrinas," from the largest terrorist attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor, to attacking the wrong country, to Katrina itself, to this recession.
That's why I respect Obama -- he's been handed the biggest fucking mess as a first term president since FDR (who also inherited a big fucking mess from a Republican president) and he's trudging on through an opposition of unprincipled political posers. People like Republican leader John Boehner, who spent $83,000 on golf outings in 2009 alone, money from a PAC, who has spent untold monies on his addiction to tanning beds, then wants to whine about spending the taxpayers’ money. I’ll take Pelosi over that loser any day.
I’ll say one thing for Bush; compared to today’s Republican party his was a gift from god. This new batch of psychos is just a gift to the Democrats. -
Gimme a fucking break. If you watch that old You Tube clip, it just shows what a fucking hack journalist Matthews is. For crying out loud, he keeps trying to back Malkin into a corner by saying "Are you saying..." to which she ACCURATELY replies "I'm not saying this, I'm reporting what others said and reported."Besides, let's face it -- there was more than enough evidence to support that Kerry WAS a cowardly pussy in Nam, including accounts by other vets that the weasel turned his boat around in combat. Not to mention, let's not forget this is the same fucktard that bragged about his military service...SAID he had his records at home...and yet when even the LA TIMES at one point asked him to turn over his records, so they could be evaluated, he then ducked and dodged and CHANGED his story saying he now DIDN'T know where his old ship's log book was. And THEN he laughably tried to claim it was at ONE of the multiple homes he and his rich bitch wife own, but he couldn't remember where. The irony of THAT being that in the recent election, fucking hypocritical libs tried to make an issue of McCain and his wife, and how many homes they owned, all the while conveniently forgetting that they didn't care that their PREVIOUS candidate owned just as many homes (7) and was married to a woman worth over half a BILLION dollars.
-
I noticed you aren't singing the praises of the biggest draft-dodging pussy to ever become president, GWB, or his piece of shit coward VP who supported the Vietnam War but was too afraid to fight in it. And really, Kerry's the best you got? Obama's president now. Throughout the primary he had five suits and cheap patched up loafers. They certainly weren't as classy as McCain's $400 Italian stompers, but they carried him to victory.
