Published at:  Nov 20, 2009 5:00:13 PM CST

Beaks here...

Update: The enthusiasm for this event is so goddamn palpable, Gallery 1988 is allowing folks to line up as early as 5 PM!

The MondoTees kids have come to Los Angeles, and my, oh, my, have they brought some goodies with them.

Tonight, from 7 - 10 PM at Gallery 1988 (7020 Melrose Ave.), a whole slew of limited edition posters, custom artwork and other cool stuff is goin' up for grabs. If you've been reading AICN for the last few years, you probably know what these guys are all about. Want a limited edition print of this bad boy (by Australian artist Rhys Cooper)?

Well, I'd advise you to get to Gallery 1988 promptly at 7 PM, 'cuz everyone else wants one, too. The 24x36 poster is printed with metallic and glow-in-the-dark ink. Switch out the lights, and the mogwai rules become visible. I know.

Are you an ALIEN fan? Would you like to have this sucker proudly displayed on your wall?

Again, get there early.

For a look at the other items that'll be available, hit up this Mondo blog entry. See you there.

Not so. I have paintings on my walls. But I also have a nicely framed poster of the cover of the first issue of the first Wolverine limited series and a framed Night of the Living Dead poster. They look good.

Put a cool poster in a frame and now........it's art.

Too old for posters? Fuck that...

    by harrycalder

...I'm old enough for the gum-popping teen at the check-out lane to call me "Sir," and on my walls are a framed poster for Jaws, mounted posters for Reservoir Dogs, the Italian release of "Mad Max 2" and the teaser poster for Coppola's Dracula. Dorked out? For sure. But they've never kept me from getting laid... at least, I don't think so... you'd have to poll the ladies who've turned me down... and I think they're both lesbians now, so, whatever...

    I love Alien

    by i am_notreal

I just spent $63 on a copy of the illustrated story, for God's sake. Only VF, too. (I know that isn't a lot for a serious collector, but it's by far the most I've ever spent on anything that even looks like a comic book). Thing is, I can hide that in my office closet...my wife would vomit if I tried to hang up that poster. The front row snapshots of Eddie Vedder are OK cause she's hot for him; Giger's space jockey, not so much.

    by fitzcarraldo2

Well, Manifestchaos has certainly got the attention he craves. Is the Alien poster in some way not proper art? To me it conveys a sense of wonder, tension and dread, which is pretty good going I reckon. Is the film itself not an extremely powerful work of art?

Of course the movie is a wonderful work of art. I love it, and that's why I own it.If you have a big house that needs wall space filed, by all means buy them up. But I daresay there is a reason I have never in my life seen a family home with movie posters on the walls (outside the kids' rooms).

    Poster Posting

    by jedibobster

The Alien poster is pretty good, although probably only due to the incredible designs of the film in the first place. The actual poster looks like it could be done fairly quickly on Image Manipulation software. The Gremlins one I like quite a bit though - and I would proudly have it on a wall in my family home. My brother had that Yoda poster made up of images from the trilogy in his front room for a few years. Guys who visited loved it, some women also loved it- others not so much. But it always provoked a response.

I would just like to clarify that it's nothing to do with you not liking posters or not wanting posters hanging up in your houseIt's the fact that you look down on people! So, fairly warranted I feel.

Nothing worse than a self-loathing geek

    by snallyg

We may disagree on all kinds of things, but we are ALL geeks in some form or another and most of us respect the need for our peers to "geek out." It's not something to be ashamed of. I wouldn't wear a storm trooper costume to a SW film, but I'd never put someone down for doing it. manifestchaos, I think your remark struck a nerve because it smacks of hypocrisy.

    I have also wondered...

    by aquanaut

how young guys will have things like movie posters on their wall we're older men will not. i think in the case of many married geeks it is a case of the wife controlling much of the home decor. in the case of older bachelors, it is the idea that women don't find posters classy or sexy. and true enough, most posters are not classy...but then neither are the generic, dime-a-dozen paintings that i see decorating most peoples homes.perhaps there's a commonality between the poster issue and why you rarely see an older person wearing a band t-shirt or using a sub-culture for a sense of identity. as one gets older, the desire to externally advertise what one is about to the world wanes. however, i see nothing wrong with a den, or study or a similar room decorated with movie posters and other memorabilia, especially posters chosen with artistic discrimination. i think everyone, men and women, should have a room that is a temple and a monument to the things that they love...a shrine of inspiration to ignite the imagination.
