The Next UNDERWORLD Film Will Be Scripted By A Writer From THE SHIELD!!
Merrick here...
John Hlavin, a writer on THE SHILED, will script a new UNDERWORLD film. No word on who'll direct or star, although Len Wiseman (who directed the first two films and produced the third) will produce.
Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."

If memory serves, there was once talk that a fourth UNDERWORLD film might be set in the future & (more or less) consider the plight of Vampires & Lycans in some distant timeframe. With DAYBREAKERS coming out (vampires in the future), I'm wondering if such a notion would still be germane.

Yet ANOTHER reason to hate Twilight. -
not sure if it could fill a whole movie and would even be that good but they could always show us Selene's past, show her life before and immediately after being changed by Viktor. We've heard them describe whats happened but it be cool to see. but if its a sequel then maybe they can address Selene's fate at the end of Part 2 since she can walk in sunlight now.

It's still better than Twilight. But that's not saying much and I really, really, really wish vampires would go the fuck away for at least a decade or two. And, when they come back, can they not be pretty boy pussies or "bad-ass" bitches? Can we PLEASE go back to something like Nosferatu, where vampires are grotesque rather than romantic?

I never saw 30 Days of Night but I caught a scene from it on YouTube and the vampires were fucking scary. That's one of the many great things about Let The Right One In...it reminded you how sad and lonely and gross being a vampire is.

Sometimes I wish some of today's screenwriters out there would man up and protect their works via the court system like Harlan Ellison and Ted Newsom have had to do over the years. I saw the trailer to *Daybreakers* the other day and it is clearly a total rip-off of David Goyer's proposed screenplay for *Blade 3* that was to have been set in the future. Goyer opted not to go that route out of respect to his friend [Mark Pro----ch whatever his last name is] who had written a screenplay for *I Am Legend*. Then again, I think the BBC should've sued the krap out of Warner Bros. and the Wachowskis over their pilfering of source material from classic *Doctor Who* for *The Matrix* films.

The story is done, don't turn this into another Friday the 13th or Halloween make-it-up-as-you-go franchise and further lose integrity of the current films with uninspired watered down variations on the same theme just to make a quick buck. Hollywood really needs to learn the meaning of the word "ENOUGH!"

I absolutely loved The Shield, so I'd like to give the fourth Underworld film a chance. Problem is, I totally agree with thedarklinglord. I fucking hate the proliferation of pussy-ass romantic vampires and toothless, brainless lycanthropes.
The genre has utterly withered and died for me in the last ten years. Absolutely died.
"Daybreakers" is at least a creative hard-R take on the genre, so maybe it'll restore my interest. Missed "30 days of Night," a film I still want to see, but everything else, blech... hate the shit. Including Underworld.
Kate Beckinsale is a fine actress most of the time, but I'm bored by the increasingly stupid examinations of the romantic undead.
I almost can't watch vamp movies anymore.
Harnessing a Shield writer's vast ability would've been so much better for an original project, but I guess we'll see. I wish him luck. -

I wouldn't defend them tooth and nail but you got to admit the overall plot was pretty good in the first flick. The whole shakespearean love intertwined with the vamp/wolf mythos was fairly original. As for the other two . . . there not as easily defendable.

I think Lestat was one of the very first Vamqueer.
As for the male leads in underworld, most were crap. Lucian and Victor weren't as vapid as the rest though. -
The brutal dirty vampires of Salems Lot scared the shit outa me as a kid. Outside of Dracula and the Lestat series(of novels) I like my vamps feral. Nosferatu and Near Dark are as good as it gets.

UNDERWORLD was just a fun film. Yes it was flawed but its was not that fucking bad. Yes the last 2 films weren't that good but, they were certainly far better than TWILIGHT. I would have like to see just a full on blood and brutal war of the vamps and lycans over the centuries. That was one of the things that disappointed me with the whole series. They touched on the war and gave a few fight scenes but come on!!! Let's see a fucking war! And fuck the CGI shit! I want to see more practical effect! I think that's a main problem with more movies now. Blood and violence is cgi and that takes away from the horror aspect. Fucking Hollywood!
There's slim pickin' nowadays for a good monster movie, so I do hope that at least this movie is at least decent. -
Ah well I was hoping they'd actually do his story with the next movie, possibly finishing off showing the massacre of Seline's family and giving us the origin of the whole deal between Kraven and the Lycans.

Why bring Beckinsale back? She is the caucasian Jessica Alba (or Jessica Alba is the latino Kate Beckinsale). Both are very cute but neither can act their way out of a paper bag. Besides, any new Underworld film should be direct to DVD.

Alba is terrible. Beckinsale's acting abilities have never been in question. She's perfectly convincing in almost every role (Van Helsing excluded... but that wasn't her fault).

Megan Fox would draw more than a no name since Kate B. Thinks this role is now somehow beneath her.
I am not saying it would be any good, but according to so many here, none of them have been, so they might as well go for broke. Megan is similar in looks. Recent hit films (Twilight) has proven looks sometimes count more than acting skills. The black leather Catsuit would cover those hideous tattoos too!!!

... that is the fault of fucking fanboy perfectionist twats who give bad word-of-mouth to anything. At this point, studios believe any sort of practical effects (and most of the werewolves are people in practical costumes or are stop-motion) are trash at the same time they elevate Stan Winston and Rick Baker. They're a paradoxical bunch - they claim to love practical effects, but when they see them they shout FAKE-ASS! So, when you DO find practical effects folks out there, they wiggle the camera so the practical effects are hard to see, the idea being that if it's hard to see the fanboys can't get a close-up look to call it FAKE! of course, when the same fanboys are given CGI, which is 'perfect,' they cry "FUCKING CGI!" Look at 50s films, where they were unafraid of the bad plastic/rubber monsters and just put them out there - because the audience was having fun and had imagination and didn't care for it needing to be PERFECT.

Prof. Pop-Cult: Maybe nobody in your crowd likes this series, but there's a thriving fan base for UNDERWORLD. I've met lots of UW fans who are VERY into the series and the characters, and know their UW lore the way Trekkies know TREK.

Don't forget also, that with vampires being in a movie, it needs to be dark so they can come out in the open as opposed to having to hide during the day so they don't turn to dust.
Although I think they hid behind that reason a bit too much. As to the editing, that's just a crappy trend that needs to go away. -
