Starting February, LOST Will Air Tuesdays!!

Published at:  Nov 20, 2009 2:00:17 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Lost” will air at 9 p.m. Tuesdays instead of in its traditional Wednesday berth, ABC announced Thursday.

This suggests it will have to contend with Fox’s top-rated megahit “American Idol,” which often airs in both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. timeslots on Wednesdays.

I think this is “Lost’s” first time on Tuesday.

“Lost” started in 2004 at 8 p.m. Wednesdays, went to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for seasons two and three, hopped to Thursdays for season four (immediately following the writers’ strike), then bounced back to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. for season five.

Launch date for “Lost’s” sixth and final season, which is rumored to bring back just about every dead character it can (and not necessarily in flashbacks), is Feb. 2. (Busy Maggie Grace, who played Shannon, may be a key holdout.)

Carlton Cuse just indicated via Twitter that he and co-showrunner Damon Lindelof are currently rewriting the season's ninth episode.

Rumored titles for the first eight hours of season six:

6.1 LA X Part One
6.2 LA X Part Two
6.3 What Kate Does
6.4 The Substitute
6.5 Lighthouse
6.6 Sundown
6.7 Dr. Linus
6.8 Recon

The final season will feature 18 hours in all.

Press release:

ABC announces the premiere of the sixth and final season of "Lost," with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m.

The series will then air in its regular time period - Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET - beginning the following week, on February 9.

"Lost" stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry O'Quinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.

"Lost" was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Jean Higgins and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. "Lost," which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from ABC Studios.

It's in the top 3 downloads on iTunes every week a new ep is on.

    Same for DVR recordings.

Not to mention the shit-ton of DVD's the show sells.

Besides, just yesterday Nielsen stated that they were eliminating "live-only" ratings come January. Nightly ratings don't mean dick anymore.

    Opening

    by enderandrew

We've all debated for months where you can possibly start after than finale. I've suggested the ONLY way you can open is the plane landing at LAX. It brings the show full circle with the pilot. Either Farraday was right, or a nuke went off and everyone was dead. Given that Episode 1 and 2 is named LAX, does this confirm what I assume, or will it be a clever play on words to distract the fans from what really happens?

    by jayemel

...except episode 7. Pilot Parts 1 and 2 = LA X Parts 2 and 2 (about everyone). Born to Run = What Kate Does (Kate finally stops fence sitting and does something). Walkabout = The Substitute (What happens to/about Locke now that he's dead? Is Frank a candidate for being his "substitute"?). White Rabbit = Lighthouse (Jack follows a false image looking for a direction. Now he finally finds a direction.). House of the Rising Sun = Sundown (Obviously about Sun's arc. Do we go from thinking she was awesome to realizing she's a bitch?). The Moth = Dr. Linus (Ben replaces Charlie. Thank God. This episode will surely blow any Charlie episode out of the water.) Confidence Man = Recon (Obviously about Sawyer. Does he revert to being a confidence man again? Who/what is he or someone else doing recon on?)

Not a good move, but obviously.. they're not cancelling the show, 9 out of 18 final eps are written, 7-8 eps in thec can. I know no one should care about ratings, but, deep down, it bothers me that some people will watch Olympics instead of LOST, and will most likely miss LOST's series finale, in favor of American Fucking Idol (seriously, what a show that would make. Keamy is back. Omar is back. Alex is back. Dr. Artz is back. Boone is back. Juliette is back. Charlie is back. Ana Lucia and Eko.. *probably back*. Charlotte Lewis is back. Faraday will probably be back at some point. The actress who played younger Eloise Hawking is back. Claire is back. Cesear is back. Titus Welliver as the MIB is back. Mark Pelligrino, the mineral water man, is back as Jacob. Sayid is taken by Jack and Kate into the temple to be healed. Temple Others come out to fight the 815ers, until Richard interceeds. Ben lies about stabbing Jacob. Sayid or Cesear stab the MIB/Flocke. Hurley, in his hummer, almost backs into Locke in his wheelchair, leaving the box company. Hurley cuts him a check on the spot. Kate, on the run from her arresting officer, and pregnant-Claire catch a cab leaving LAX and go to Claire's babys adoptives mothers house to finalize the adoption. They arrive and the adoptive mother changes her mind, except Claire goes into labor. A Dr. Goodspeed delivers the baby.. but its Ethan. Jack, Hurley, and Richard go to meet Jacob at a lighthouse. Hiroyuki Sanada is playing a temple Other named Dogan, possibly a nod to the Dark Tower dogens (also check google and wikipedia for the other main reference). Claire fleeing the Temple-Others, who look pirateish, most likely Black-Rock shipmates, takes healed-Sayid to her tent that she's been living in, into-the-wild style for the last 3 years. She may have dark hair and be kind of feral. Sawyer picks up Charlotte at a bar and tries to con her into telling him where the boat is. She doesn't fall for it and he calls his boss on the phone to report the bad news. Miles is there and they get in a fight. Miles is also on the island in 2007 with Richard and Ilana. They have a funeral for Locke. Ilana probably knows what Ben did. MIB/Flocke comes out of the 4-toed statue after the death of Jacob and gives a speech about how the Others have dissapointed him, and then beats the living crap out of Richard. Jack, Kate, Hurley and others reunite with Sun, Lapidus, Richard, etc. on the beach, with Claire most likely there. Jin is in the temple, doing something.

Just hearing this news gave me chills

    by billypilgrimisunstuck

So glad it's on Tuesday. Thursday is STACKED and I can HARDLY keep up with that night as it is (It's Always Sunny, The Office, 30 Rock). I think the armchair analysis is right: ABC doesn't give a fuck about "live" ratings anymore and know that LOST is a brand. It has been from season 2. Since the word "hatch" came into popular vernacular meaning a bunker, they knew they had other ways to make money off it (puzzles, video games, toys, and [most of all] foreign syndication). A lot of detractors come on here and bash this show for it's hit in ratings, claiming that fans have grown tired and the show has gone stale. NAY. I say that LOST had a mutual symbiotic relationship with the changing media landscape. It wasn't hindered by DVRs and iTunes, it most likely had a significant influence in it's ubiquity. LASTLY, I guess when Darlton said that last season will closely mimic the first, they meant literally. Each episode title, so far, looks like a direct mirror to season 1. Aside from Charlie (obviously, since he's dead). Multicentric, Kate, Locke, Jack, Sun/Jin, Ben (replacing Charlie), and Sawyer. If all goes according to plan, the next episode would be Sayid-centric.

Go ahead and paste in the link showing Maggie Grace shooting with the cast. The only thing you're going to come up with is her saying she was flying to Hawaii, and thats it. Guess what, she didn't shoot LOST while she was in Hawaii, and she's done 3 movies back to back since, and just recently got freed up, and still hasn't said yes to shooting. And locke, you REALLY twist the facts dude... just because younger-Rousseau is back, doesn't mean she was recast as her older self (eh.. what?) She's playing... younger Rousseau... dude. Comeon. Looking back at the last decade of TV

    by miyamoto_musashi

Wire and Sopranos probably the best quality tv, but Lost is the one that will be remembered longer. Its like the OT of Star Wars, movies like Godfather 1 and 2 are more critically acclaimed, better written scripts and acting, but Star Wars is still the one that had the most impact and most remembered.

American Idol is in a tailspin and crashing hard (no pun intended... okay kinda). The ratings plummeted last season compared to earlier ones and the show's more vulnerable than it's ever been before. ABC is showing good bold confidence in running Lost opposite American Idol. Even if this weren't its final season, I think it would do quite well.

when it's consistently the #1 and #2 shows on TV when it's on? That just means that network TV is in a tailspin. It's not like it dropped to 40th place... it's still the NUMBER ONE RATED SHOW, regardless of the numbers. C'mon.

    by sapno_krei

...because the writers know that if they changed history, all of the unsolved clues doled out over the last 5 years would be invalidated. So far, the only "rulebreaker" has been Desmond, and even he has a valid (and, in my opinion, pretty cool) reason for being able to. The guy has seen things in his past that he simply cannot remember, due to his swiss-cheesed memory (to borrow a term from Quantum Leap).

in common is this: family. The entire family can watch them together, and they do. They also have the teenage girl factor, which is a huge force with night-time TV. Theres also the coveted 18-49 market, of people most likely to impulse buy, and burn cash, as opposed to people in debt with mortgages, etc.

As far as Terry O'Quinn saying Locke is dead, he wasn't told that by the Producers. He just assumed that based on what ended up on screen in the finale. I don't think he knows anymore than we do. He said, "it looks like John Locke was just a pawn". That could be the case but we simply don't know. I think it's clear that Locke will be back when the plane lands in Season premiere...

I hate to be "that guy"

    by mraig

But I will be really upset if Jack and them setting off the bomb actually does erase the crash and everything, because this is NOT CONSISTENT with the story as they've told it.

In Season 5 we saw a version of the "present" where Ben, Sun, Fake Locke and the others were on the island. They were on the island AFTER Jack and the others went back in time. They were on a version of the island where Jack and the others were in photographs from the 70s, and where Richard Alpert remembered them blowing up the bomb and dying.

There is NO WAY for there to be a version of the timeline where, in 2007, Sun and Ben and Richard's past includes SOME parts of what Jack and them did in the 70s, but not other parts.

In other words, if Jack blowing up the bomb had erased the original Oceanic 815 crash, there is no logical timeline in which the scenes on the island with fake Locke and Ben could have happened. The fact that we were shown those scenes is proof that Jack didn't erase the crash.

If it turns out in Season 6 that the timeline has been changed, and they don't give some explanation that overcomes my objection (like I guess they could say that the island somehow exists outside of time, so Jack changed the past for the rest of the world, but the characters who landed on the island were shielded from these changes) the lack of internal consistency will...well, it'll just bother me so much that I might not be able to enjoy it. Like I said, I hate to be that guy, but there it is. I have loved Lost so much for the past five years, I don't want the series to end on what seems to me like a plothole.

(For some reason, I think it's only time travel plotholes that really bother me this much. I can stand a lot of other inconsistencies, but when they don't do time travel logically, I just get extra pissed off. Don't ask me why.)

I too must work on Tuesday nights... perhaps I'll have to alter my work schedule (although explaining why may be odd and/or a complete lie).

    LA X

    by longjohnny99

I did see someone equate this to the Los Angeles 10 above but I took it as an implication that the Losties plane did land at LAX as a result of the explosion. This, of course, changes everything. I just thought it was a neat way to acknowledge the fact that the Losties have screwed with time sucessfully and are now bopping around LA, doing things they never should have done. I won't claim to have a handle on time travel but did they not create a divergent timeline, hence the distinction between LA & LA X?

the question now is: whether the alt-timeline was created by jughead going off... and if thats the timeline we've seen since season 1, and the season 6 timeline is the *original* timeline. In other words, if they had done nothing, the incident would have never happened, which is a chain of events that led to flight 815 crashing on the island. But since they did intervene, thats created the loop.

It's Not Like Forbes Is Ugly Or Anything

    by crow3711

She's just a little...manly..for my taste. Big. I like feminine women, so sue me. What I really said about Forbes was that I didn't think she was a very good actress. Boring, in fact.

LOST Season 6 in NYC viewings

    by toughguyrizzo

    http://www.meetup.com/LOST-NYC /

If you'd like to come out and watch LOST every week, we host a viewing in Hell's Kitchen at The Irish Rouge restaurant. We have the upstairs to ourselves, usually with an a crowd of 50-70 LOST fans. It's quiet during the show, everyone is into it. We all go out for drinks/food before and after the show. Lots of fun and we are also on facebook. Hope you can make it!

    wouldnt it be funny...

    by yourstepdaddy

...after the creators sayin the chars werent dead or in purgatory or whatever, that in season 6 they actually end up in purg or hell or heaven or whatever but get to live out their lives as if they never crashed... could make it bittersweet in the end when the chars meet up wit Boone, Eko, and all the others that died... but then that would be too much like Titantic ending after Rose died... nevamind
