Anton Sirius asks you for questions for Matthew Bright (dir. of FREEWAY & CONFESSIONS OF A TRICK BABY)

Published at:  Sep 08, 1999 4:23:30 AM CDT

Here ya go folks. Email the questions to Anton, not to me. I'm still sorting through all the Douglas Adams questions. And he'll see what he can get answered for all of us!

Hello, starkinder! I'll be interviewing Matthew
Bright (the writer/director of Freeway and Freeway II:
Confessions of a Trick Baby) sometime soon at the
Toronto International Film Festival. If you would
like to ask him any questions, pass them on to me at
robbie_dogstar@yahoo.com. Be seeing you!

Anton Sirius

Why do a sequel to a film that nobody has seen?

    by spike lee

I guess this film is not based on the Freeway game for the Atari 2600 (remember you had to get the chicken across the road).

    Anton Who?

    by mickey louse

C'mon now pal, do you even live in Toronto? How do we know you're not just re-typing some old interview he gave years ago?

Maybe you are just some Joe living in Moose Jaw with some suped-up Amiga computer and 2400 Baud modem.

If you're not, I've got a question for you to ask him. Confirm if the deliciously titled "Freeway 3" will be a prequel where we learn what Ms. Witherspoon had to do to earn bail to free her mom after she stole a karaoke machine from the local Hooters.

Thank you Mr. Sirius, if that is your real name.

    Freeway Sequels?

    by all thumbs

There was a sequel? Where was I...could someone who's seen this give me a rundown on what the sequel was about and who it starred and if it's on video right now or in movie limbo? Freeway was an excellent movie and made me a fan of Reese Witherspoon's work ever since, but a sequel? That's like doing a sequel to Citizen Kane, isn't it?

TRICK BABY is NOT a "sequel"

    by wechsan

The idiot's at the distribution came up with the "Freeway II" gem. It's plot is also taken from a fairy tale (Hansel & Gretel), of course with Matthew's sick take on it. It's with Natasha Lyonne, who's good, and Vinny Gallo, who's great/insane. BTW, ask Matthew how he feels about Canadian crews!

    'Freeway II'

    by anton_sirius

You forgot to mention that Vincent Gallo PLAYS THE WITCH! He's a Mexican nun, or something. Ah, Vincent. My theory on the 'Freeway II' thing: Someone woke up one morning, noticed Austin Powers 2 did four times the original's box office, and had a brain storm (or spasm, whatever.)

    Confessions of a Treat Baby

Ok, so it's not a sequal, it's more of a movie in a set of themes. Sounds good to me! Is it on video? Also, could you pleas ask him if he's ever had problems with the MPAA and how he feels about the whole ratings debate as of the moment?

    It's a sequel.

    by cds

Matthew Bright seems to be the only person who insists it isn't a sequel. Everything released by the company that financed and owns the film calls it Freeway 2: Confessions of a Trickbaby. The only reason it might not be considered a sequel is that Reese Witherspoon passed on playing the character again, and Natasha Lyonne is a poor substitute. But the storyline absolutely picks up right where the first left off. Unfortunately this one is as bad as Freeway was good. Terrible production values. Very ugly film. Bright blamed it on the Canadians. Maybe so, maybe not, but it's just flat ugly. It's also vile and repugnant, totally lacking all the sharp dialog of Freeway. It wanders all over the map, literally, with no known purpose. I can't see this film getting any theatrical release in the U.S. at all, and anyone who picks up the home video based on Freeway will be sorely disappointed.

It's an aftershave! And a laxative!
