Live in Chicago? Want to be among the first to see Wes Anderson's FANTASTIC MR. FOX? Capone has the details!!!

Published at:  Nov 18, 2009 2:53:18 PM CST

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

FANTASTIC MR. FOX might be the single most charming film I’ve seen all year, and I’m choosing that word carefully. Charm is one of the most difficult things to get across in the film. You can like or love a movie and its characters well enough, but charm is a different monster. It’s about winning over an audience to the point where we’d actually like to hang out more with these characters in the universe the director has created. There’s a comfort element to the experience that you don’t get with many films, even ones you adore. But FANTASTIC MR. FOX, based on the novel by Roald Dahl, is loaded to the gills with charm, sweetness, and humor without abandoning the irreverent wit and distinct visual style that director Wes Anderson injects into all his film.

The charm comes a bit easier with great actors like George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Jason Schwartzman lending their unique voices and personality to an the array of animal characters (mostly foxes) in this stop-motion wonderment.

I have a very limited number of seats to fill for a screening of FANTASTIC MR. FOX on Monday, November 23 at 8:00pm at a theater in Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners). Yes, this is an hour later than the NINJA ASSASSIN screening we're doing earlier the same night; so if you won for that, obviously you're ineligible to win this contest. Feel free to enter this contest if you entered the other, because your odds of winning the other are small.

Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at therealcapone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "CLICK CLICK WHISTLE" (watch the trailer if you don’t understand). In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): What is your favorite film featuring a talking animal? It can be an animated work or live-action. I know for most of you the answer will be the talking fox in ANTICHRIST, but let’s try to inject a little bit of charm into your entry.

Feel free to explain your answer, but keep your entry BRIEF--limit your answers to 75 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). Winners will receive an email from me, probably over the weekend.

It is my understanding that the AICN lot of seats will be reserved, but it’s still a good idea to arrive early just in case. This is NOT and exclusive AICN event, although I don't think it's substantially overbooked. And for God's sakes, if there's even the slightest chance you'll have to back out of attending if you do win, don't enter. You'd be amazed how many last-minute emergencies (or other lame excuses) crop up in the 12 hours before every screening. If you have a job that might make you late, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, do not enter.

Good luck, everyone! Hope to see you there.

    CHILD RAPE SUPPORTER

    by edgarwrights_prolapsedanus

Wes Anderson thinks pedophiles should be allowed to simply get on with it. He's never really had a serious girlfriend or boyfriend either. Yes, confirmed bachelor Wes Anderson is ok with pedophilia. He thinks children being drugged and raped is no big deal.

the UK got this a month before the US? I usually support simultaneous release, but that's a nice little nod to the origins.

all the American actors voicing the British animals isn't a nice nod to the origins though.

The producers worked out an agreement with the original cast. Steve Martin would get to do as many crappy pink panther movies as he wants, Chevy Chase got a roll on a sit-com and I think they killed off Martin Short.

but I still don't want to see it. Not exactly sure why as this is usually the type of project that would interest me, but I dunno, just not feeling it.

Who was the jerk-off who ruined the term "Hater"?

    by burnhollywood

Nothing to do with the main topic (unless you hate MR. FOX and his posse unreservedly), but where did this crybaby, pantywaist, teenage girl bullshit start of labeling anybody who has a difference of opinion or concerns on a given topic (like a coming attraction) a "hater"?
Last time I checked, the term was in reference to jealous fucks attacking their better off peers, namely "players". It's not something for pussy lightweights to scream because they're unhappy everybody doesn't have their sad lack of moviegoing experience and thinks anything with CGI explosions and a guy yelling "Woo-hoo!" in it is the Best Movie Of The Year.
    Quit being such bitches.
This has been a public service announcement. I now return you to MR. FOX and his furry woodland friends.

Yeppers, I love me some zombie roadkill

    by feralangel

Good god, have people lost their minds? I've seen the trailers. I've cringed at those trailers. I've averted my eyes during those trailers. They look like "PeterRabbitZombieLand". GAAHHH!!!! Have people become so jaded after witnessing the sparkling CGI splendors of Up, Astro Boy and Kung Fu Panda that this Night of the Walking Furries looks *gasp* appealing to them? Jezus Keeerist. If I saw critters like that in real life I'd be tempted to pick up a gun for the first time in my life. Or rev up my Honda and make them a permanent part of the pavement. Yeesh. People are weird, man.

Took my daughter to see it a few weeks ago (UK). Very much a Wes Anderson film,(to a fault if you don't like his stuff) in composition, line delivery, 'highbrow' humour, but with wonderful animation.

    by godric

It's my favourite Wes Anderson movie. I think animation suits his tone well. Came out like a month ago here in the UK, which I guess makes up for the fact that Up also just came out here like a month ago. Stupid release schedules...

well, it was animated in the uk,

    by obscura

and the characters were built in Manchester, so the fact that the actors were US, doesn't bother me. they all did a great job regardless. what matters is the the UK film industry got some support from a very British story.

    It's a very good film

    by boxcutter

Witty, sweet, sad, wonderfully animated, very human, ironically. And in this relatively disappointing year, one of the best times at the movies I've had.

    by walter_burns

I thought this was great fun. Really enjoyed it - and like rasALclart enjoyed it even more than UP (which I also really liked). Good year for animation.
