Will We Get A Movie Based On The CALL OF DUTY Games?? On HBO's ROME Series??
Merrick here...
Kevin McKidd, who voices Captain "Soap" MacTavish in the CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE games, says The Powers That Be are contemplating a movie built around the super-cool CoD franchise.
"They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he revealed to PopWrap. Then came the kicker, when asked if he would be bringing Soap to life in the movie, he said, "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."
McKidd, who also appeared on HBO's ROME, says a feature film of that series is also being mulled.
"There is a script that is being shopped and it's supposedly very good, I haven't seen it, but I am definitely going to be a part of the movie,"
...says McKidd HERE.

If it's a balls out action movie like the games, no pussying around.
-
i thought he kicked it at the end?!?
-
make it so!
-
someone gotta do it...
-
I introduced my gf to it this past weekend, and she loves it. I miss that series. A movie? Absolutely.
-
Soap was last seen limping off with Price after killing Shepherd. Their Russian friend "knows a place" they can hide.

Meh...Where is my Beautiful Katamari movie????
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
By Paul Anderson...
-
I borrowed my friend's copy and not only does the campaign mode kick arse, but multiplayer is where the party gets started.i'm sure with a good script and hardcore action scenes, they can pull it off. Soap is MW's answer to Master Cheif and marcus fenix.Bringgg it!
-
Thought you were talking about spoilers from COD. My fault.
-
...otherwise not only will I not see it, I will actively campaign against it.In talkback...and I'll bitch about it to my neighbors and stuff...So, be warned...
-
directed by the Wachowski brothers
-
No more dipshit videogame movies for riddlin addled, axe body spray wearing, fatsos please. Just kidding you ADD fatso's I love Call Of Duty but no videogame movies our culture has already been dumbed down enough
But more Rome please!!!!!! THIRTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!! -
Can't beat that line.
-
was awseome in Dog Soldiers. He gave Rome it's soul.
-
Didn't LV kick the proverbial bucket at the end? Maybe it could take place in between episodes, since it seems some were years apart. I don't care how they explain it, I would be first in line to se Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo kicking some (really) old school ass.
-
So fucking awesome.
-
Proof here: http://bit.ly/2lqATp; Assassins Creed took 3 VGA nominations while Uncharted 2 led all comers with 8. Seven nods for Batman: Arkham Asylun and 6 each for Call of Duty-Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.
KB's up for best female voiceover performance against Eliza Dushku (Wet), Megan Fox (Transformers: ROTF) and Tricia Helfer (Halo: ODST). -
the stories are pretty generic, and wouldn't bring anything original, both visually and storytelling wise to the big screen. If anything what the games do amazingly well is present a cinematic quality, seen in war movies to the video game experience. And their storytelling isn't something we haven't already seen in movies like Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, shows like Band of Brothers. I guess they will be just a solid war movie that will benefit from a having popular brand name. Not hatin', just sayin'

In the end, what I really want to see is a Half-Life movie
by requisitemonkey
that would fucking rock
-
Spoiler:
Was left kind of vague. Pullo said he didn't make it, but could have been lying. Octavian would not have accepted that Vorenus willingly gave up the child without a fight after all. -
HBO is still trying to find a way to recoup their money from the ROME sets in any way it possibly can as they were the most expensive sets ever created for a television series. For a while they even contemplated a time travel series that would involve the main character going back to the ancient Roman Empire just so they could reuse those sets.
-
We was robbed
-
I did think the Rome Movie would be a prequel, tellng the story of Caesar's 8 Year Gallic War...but that would mean Pullo and Vorenus would not yet be friends in the timeline, and we couldn't have that. Whenever it's set, I cannot wait!
-
Toga! Toga! Toga!
-
Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus any day over COD.
-
5 aa batteries for the nightvision goggles to work. Thank goodness we shop @ costco ;)
-
Anyone who doesn't like Deadwood sucks cock by choice.
-
Hoping that this Rome movie is going to penned by Milch. He originally pitched Deadwood as a show about cops in time of Nero and spend years researching for it.
-
That show was abandoned!!
-
C'mon everybody, let's keep screaming it til these dumb ass video games and boring books stop getting made: TURN SNOW CRASH INTO A MOVIE ALREADY!!! DAMN!!!
-
The movie is confirmed to be in pre-production at the storyboard phase with Avary writing the script from his prison cell! And a COD movie has been done already as... oh... Every WWII or Military driven story to date!
-
I WOULD SHIT ALL OVER MY DICK TOO SEE THAT
-
Maybe Jesse Plemons arguing with Taylor Kitsch on whether Shakira or Jessica Biel is more fuckable.
-
Pullo is a liar.
-
Man how great would a rome movie be? Do it now dammit!
-
...they had to rush that whole story line and I didn't get nearly the nipple I deserved.
-
Just saying...
-
You up for it Hollywood?
-
used the Rome sets, didn't it?
-
Amazing work in both. A movie tie-up to Rome would be just the ticket.
-
Seriously, I like Butler, but Butler is the poor mans McKidd.I think the COD:MW games would lend themselves to a great film, they're designed to be 'cinematic' and tend to steal great hollywood moments anyway.I would have no complaint with them altering the COD:MW story slightly though. Seriously, MW2 has some WTF moments that work great when you're in the moment, but then immediately afterwards make you realise they make no sense.
-
Slone.
If I'm not mistaking, those sets, at Cinecitta studios, Italy, burnt to the ground some years ago; so no money to be recovered from those.
If they didn't, I bet you they've could have rented it to the Discovery Channel.
And yes, Vorenus lives! So a sequel can be done, but should be set during Octavian/Augustus reign. Not evene those two legionaries can fight after their nineties ;) -
all the cod games are is an adaptation of a bunch of old war films. to turn that into a new film is crazy. half-life needs to be done though. and imax-3d mirror's edge. with complimentary sick bags stashed in the arm rests.
-
What could possibly go wrong?
-
DO NOT DISTURB.
-
And yes, a ROME movie would be fucking amazing. THIRTEEEEEEN!!!
-
bought the special edition with the night vision googles? are they cool? because i am thinking of buying the special edition for the googles, instead of the normal one,but its a bit expensive.
-
...both McKidd and Ray Stevenson have been talking about the plans for a Rome movie for a couple of years now, but nothing has ever come of it. Don't get me wrong, I'd fucking love to see it happen, as along with The Wire and Deadwood, I consider Rome to be one of the finest shows made for american tv ever, but I fear that if someone was going to bite they likely would have done so by now. And Bruno Heller being busy over at The Mentalist probably doesn't help matters either. I just think that sadly, much like the promised but then abandoned Deadwood wrap up, this is one of those things that we are never going to actually see come to life...Then again, maybe if Clash of the Titans breaks all kinds of records, someone might take a chance. But in a world where a completed and cool looking Solomon Kane movie struggles to find distribution, I really don't have a great deal of hope I'm afraid...THIRTEEN!

I haven't watched Rome but please explain "Thirteen" to me
by isleptwithkathybatesandallthatigotwasthi
I promise i will at some point but, for now, please explain why "Thirteen" appears in these talkbacks everytime McKidd or Stevenson (who I've become a fan of since PUNISHER: WAR ZONE meaning i really need to get stuck into the Rome boxsets).I need to know!
-
I'm glad someone else was thinking about "Journeyman" during this story.
-
"everytime McKidd or Stevenson are mentioned on AICN."
-
That was a really great show. I thought i was the only one who watched it! It's one of the few shows where the quality got better every episode. Most shows go the other way!
-

Oh and shouldn't it be "OR HBO's Rome Series???"
by isleptwithkathybatesandallthatigotwasthi
Is it not only the talkbackers who can't ammend their posts around here?
-
...the two main guys were in the 13th legion. Sort of a rallying cry.
-
McKidd is Soap! I was hoping they brought in Keifer Sutherland to do some voice work for MW2. ijs
-
The two main characters were in the XIII Legion. And like elite soldiers everywhere, they had a powerful esprit de corps. Can't say much more about specifics without getting spoiler-ish.
-
Yeah, it was HEAVILY implied that McKidd died at the end. However, in interviews with the production team after it wrapped they said that for any eventual movie McKidd would still be alive.
This can only mean one thing:
LEGIONNAIRY ZOMBIE MASSACRE! -
A Rome movie needs to be mid-season 2 and expand on the Augustus battles.
McKidd is dead at the end of Season 2 and the Augustus characters were the least interesting (probably because they got crammed into the 3-seasons-into-1 season 2)
Also, bring back the original actor for Augustus. He is old enough now. And he was F'ing fantastic. -

Considering most of MW seems to be taken from OTHER movies..
by wickedjester
..I don't know how that would work.In fact, IGN has an article up showing what movies they think 'influenced' MW2. (http://tinyurl.com/yh7g5ux
) -
But haven't there already been countless generic military/war movies? The reason I like COD is because it's like being in those movies. I just don't find it all that exciting the other way around.
-
I'm SO there!!BTW based on an earlier report, Season 3 was going to deal with the rise of Christ if I'm not mistaken.
-
I completed MODERN WARFARE 2's campaign this week... loved the game but the storyline had me scratching my head over a few issues...
*spoilers*
The main Ruskie villain Markarov is totally sidelined in the final act, so much so that - HE DOESNT FEATURE AT ALL! I was waiting to put a bullet in that cold-hearted motherfucker ever since the airport massacre, couldnt believe the game left him alive at the end.
Also what was that moment where you go to a panic room for a vip and find a dead body and a grunt with 'unusual tatoos'. Wtf did that have to do with anything?
And was 'Ghost' meant to be Gaz from the first game? Same voice.
Finally, did US repel the invasion in the end? Pretty massive plot point and its left unclear! -
Ok, cast it with all the original cast and film it first...but then!!!
-
I heard the same thing... and I heard further that the film was being developed with the unused Season 3 storyline in mind.
Do want. Do very very want. -
wheres my wii fit movie direted by micheal bay
-
Hope this actually comes to light
-
building on Cobra-Kai's post... why don't you just shoot Makarov in the head the moment the airport level starts? I mean, stopping Makarov was the whole point, so... Come to think of it, not a single plot point made any sense. Great mulitplayer though
-
Adelai, I know. The game wouldnt let you fire at Markarov, i tried!
There's a cool easter egg after completing though. A new museum level opens up, and if you go behind the reception desk and press the red button there... well, lots of fun! -
It would be interesting to see the comparison in power -- the mob of Rome (i.e. the throngs of people who lauded Augustus at his "triumph" celebration at the end of Season 2) compared to the throngs/multitudes following Jesus of Nazareth who is then labled as a threat to the established order and powers sanctioned by Caesar. But if they go in that direction, the film would have to include Tiberius Caesar.
-
Just continue the series with three epic 3+ hour films ala LOTR.
Rome has got to be the best tv series ever made. -
It would be cool to see a ROME film that deals with Octavian's grand military feats as Caesar such as completing the conquest of Spain from 28 BC to 19 BC. At the early years of this war, Pullo and Vorenus (if not really dead) would be close to the ages they were when the series ended.
-
A second chapter in a trilogy? It's obvious they left things open to be explored later on. But honestly a lot of the things people have been complaining about can be easily understood if you just think about it. Not everything has to be laid out, and shouldn't be. The reason why you can't pop Makarov in the fucking head is because you'd blow your cover, lose whatever intel you might be able to get from the guy after getting into his inner circle, as well as putting your country at risk if you were captured or killed....but that was the entire point wasn't it? Yes, yes it was. Shepard never sent Allen to take him down, he sent him to unknowingly start a war.
-
Julius Caesar was assassinated in 41 BCE. Augustus/Octavian took power in 31 BCE. To cover the time period while Jesus was politically significant would require a span of at least 60 years. None of the major characters could have lived that long (particularly not Pullo and Vorenus) and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be played by the same actors (historically, Augustus did live until AD 14, but at that point he was 75 years old).
-
Great idea. That way we could see other major parts of Octavian's reign which could include Pullo and Vorenus such as securing the northern frontiers. Octavian saw this as vital for forging a land-link to the eastern part of the empire. We would also get introduced to Tiberius who was key to this by replacing Agrippa as military leader to win the hard fought battles in Illyricum, considered to be critical to the safety of the empire.Tiberius was the stepson and heir to Octavian. He was also Caesar during the rise of Christ.
-
And McKidd didn't end up dying and makes it into the ROME movie. Still, I'll be really surprised if it gets made.
-
Aren't they doing a new Red Dawn? What's the point if it's not an epic soviets reborn story?
-
To cover the time when Christ was "politically significant," the ROME film or films would have to transition from Octavian to Tiberius in the manner that the series transitioned from Julius Caesar to Octavian. But point taken. They'd likely have to use flashbacks to pull it off similar to Godfather part 2 or Pullo and Vorenus would have to do the Spock Prime or Gandalf the Grey thing -- be the really old guy who, as a supporting player, makes critcal moves at key moments.
-
Whoever keeps mentioning a movie from that book is crazy. The book started fine, but c'mon it really went bad quickly. Oh and 50 pages of exposition in the last third of the book to explain the ending. Really bad narrative pace. I could barely finish the tripe. Oh and the gratuitous rape/sex scene of a teenager? Where the fuck did that fit into the narrative flow. Inane.
-
What dissappointed me the most, however, was that the initial promise failed to deliver.
-
Blomkamp or not, I think it should be made. Also, a live action Killzone flick could be really great too.
-
Nov 18, 2009 8:48:38 PM CST
Only character you could have from the show at the time of Chris
by dougmckenzie
Would be Caesarion (Or whatever name Pullo raised him as)... hmm imagine having him be behind the rise of Christ as a way to get back at the Empire? That would be cool.
-
but it sure looks pretty! Worst COD game so far. Even worse than 3. The campaign is sooooooooo FUCKING SHORT. I am serious. I beat it the second day I had it in less than 6 hours total. MP is dumbed down so any retard can move up the ranks quickly.
-
The first sidescrolling movie. With poorly timed jumping.
-
Was it because I said I like stevenson in the nazi zombie flick or because I said I didn't like the punisher flick he did?
-
Thirteen! Thirteen!
-
I'd be glad to see a Rome flick, but don't really see the point. Deadwood on the other hand could use some resolution imo.
-
it would just be nice to see more of it though. Such a good series. And it's a fucking shame that True Blood of all shows ends up being HBO's most successful show in awhile. Same goes for Dexter over Brotherhood (one of the best shows this decade).
-
I dare "Hollywood" to top these two series. I double-dog dare. Hell, I TRIPLE DOG DARE "Hollywood" to make television that could top these two aforementioned landmark series. Ha ha, just kidding. That would be impossible.
-
I hear you. It's kind of sad to think that the people involved with ROME were hoping for a few extra seasons, but ratings wouldn't permit. If Rome was an ongoing series, there is absolutely nothing on AICN that could hope to compare. If there really is a movie based on ROME that is in the pipes, I will be one happy man. McKidd should have been a major player because of that show (Journeyman notwithstanding).
And I agree with the previous poster who said that the original actor who portrayed Augustus would be at the right age to play him as an older man... that kid hit all the right notes... fuck it seems that I am going to have to pull out my ROME DVDs and watch them again. -
Seriously. And why the hell can't HBO give us some Deadwood closure? I want to see that dwarf in the big brawl, dammit.
-
Maybe Brothers in Arms (from what I've heard), but certainly not MW. Totally different vibe.
-

Pick it up if you haven't seen it.

There is only one actor who can play Captain Price and that is the original voice actor, Billy Murray. This guy used to be freinds with thr fucking Kray twins. How is that for being a total tough nut? Billy should get first crack at this role. Same goes for Craig Fairbrass and McKidd.

by dioxholsterreturns
way way better, thats where all the fun is at. not some 9 vs. 9 player noobfest
-
when war movies are based on video games.
-
havent played COD MW,at least the first one.the narrative and the direction of that game is simply amazing,it sends a lot of other games to shame.
That scene alone with the nuclear explosion and the way its played,is simply shocking even for a game, you do feel the terror of such unearthly weapons and sorrow for the destruction and death which was caused by the explosion. In fact you die in that explosion.how revolutionary can that be for a game, from a storytelling point of view?.
Its a very good game, not just because of its gameplay, but because of its story and the fine way it tells that sorry.
I dont believe that they are going to make justice of the game, probably they use it to make one more action movie for the fanboy, which also promotes the american propaganda.and its a pity because COD MW,deserves a better movie than that. -
Oh please be true! Oh please be true! Oh please be true! Oh please be true! Oh please be true! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!!
-
It ends very abruptly with a clear cliff-hanger set-up for a sequel. No resolution to most of the plot points laid out in the storyline such as Makarov, the Russian invasion of the US, the US retaliation is completely unseen etc. Nobody has been told about Shepherds plan and at the end the dialogue indicates that there is more to do.
Yet when you go back to the menu after completing the campaign, it says it is only 50% done. (And it is very short)
Have those sneaky guys at Infinity Ward left more of a campaign locked until you have achieved something in Spec Ops or Online Multiplay modes???
Seriously, is there half a game lurking on that disc, undiscovered yet???
Or were they so sure that they would be back for MW3 ????? -
It's weird, but I think a Rome movie now would be likely to have less sex and nudity than the TV series. And the violence would probably actually be more extreme.
-
Also, there is absolutely no way that Hollywood could make a decent budgeted film where the main heroes and male leads are two British SAS guys.
It would not be able to play out in our theatres. It needs to be 'Merican - 'USA-USA', In for the big win, Rah-Rah, Bunting & Old Glory, Star Spangled banner wins the day etc. etc. ! -
None of MW2 US based storyline could be used just yet, as war bought to the continental US is waaaaaay too similar to what we will see in the Red Dawn remake.
-
I detest the COD games, and the way people went mental over the new one was absolutely hysterical!
And I find that if you dare tell anyone you dont like COD MW2, they look at you like you just stamped on a kitten. -
It certainly is possible, its literally impossible to list off all the awesome scenes, there were like 5 an episode. However, we all know what the best scene was. Honestly, I dont often make grand pornouncements like this, but if you dont think this is one of the best scenes ever put to TV, GTFO of this site, because this aint for you around here. Stil the only time I have ever literally jumped off my couch and cheered is when Vorenus FINALLY got off his ass. I guess I'm just gullible, but by about the 4 minute mark, I really thought Pullo was going down. They suckered me LOL http://tinyurl.com/yh94orq
-
In your dreams, kid. :P
-
If you didn't like MW2 then fair enough, more power to you.
But you need to ask yourself if you didn't like it because you really did find something better, or because you are a contrarian motherfucker with hairy palms and a fear of girls. -
It's one louder, innit?
-
Battlefield franchise has always been fun. This Modern Warfare 2 shit is so fucking stale...yawn.

-
How will you know that Bad company 2 will far better than CodMW2/ No one really cared about the first B:BC game so what will set this one apart from the pack? does it even have a story as rich as MW..or is just all out multiplayer/fuck even Bioshock 2 will own battlefield's ass.now that i predict.hate on hata.XD
-
You just hate call of duty because you don't get to play the Germans... As for Rome, your taste for "oysters and snails" Roman bath Brit thespian homoerotic man-boy love is well-known. [Just kidding, I liked the series too. Don't want the Thirteenth Legion marching against me.] The only way to go with a movie of "Rome" is to bring back Cilian Murphy as Caesar and set the movie during Caesar's time in Gaul. While exploring Crassus's defeat and disaster in Parthia, which Caesar's assassin Cassius narrowly escaped from and made it back to Rome. Btw, the most accurate depiction of ancient rome was probably malcolm mcdowell's caligula. Too bad that movie was so amateurishly bad it's unwatchable. And if they do make a Call of Duty movie, then Bruno Ganz from Downfall has to be in it as Hitler. In fact, Bruno Ganz should be Hitler in a Rome movie, too. But as someone else has already said, Call of Duty 1 was derivative of other WWII movies and TV shows, so how can they make a movie of that game??? Wait, it's Holly-mediocrity, they can do anything they want and hype it up. And OT, but why has there been no mention of the news concerning the new Conan movie on AICN? Someone get on it.
-
Well said.
-
of any show. But the rushed and inconsistent 2nd season brings it down on the all time series rankings imo. Still, I'll watch Stevenson and Mckidd in just about anything now.
-
Rome, yeeeessssss, I have the series on DVD and it is awesome, I agree one of the best series ever. I would love a Rome movie but even more if it lead to Rome season 3 on HBO. Could happen if the movie is a boxoffice smash.
Thirteeeeenn!
P.S.: Two Roman movies set for release next year, "Centurion" and "Eagle of the Ninth", both concerning the lost Ninth Legion in the wilds of Caledonia (Scotland). -
"For a while they even contemplated a time travel series that would involve the main character going back to the ancient Roman Empire just so they could reuse those sets."
They did. It was called DOCTOR WHO. It was an episode in Season 4 (or Season 30 if you're using the old-school count) ;-)
They do reuse the sets a fair bit though, for documentaries and some other Roman shows, plus they've also become a bit of a tourist attraction. And conveniently they are still standing and built, which must bring down the cost of the movie a fair bit.
