    by celicynd

Technically shouldn't the new decade start in the "1" year not the "0" year? 2011 instead of 2010? Since there was no year 0, you count from 1 so the first decade would be 1 to 10. It's like the fact that a new century began in 2001 not 2000. Yea, I know, I'm a geek.

actually you start counting from the 0

    by jettl93

it's the first number that is important, 2010 is a new decade because it's no longer '09, it will be '10, the 0 is now a 1 therefore new decade, i mean you wouldn't say that the 80's were so awesome expecially in 1990, no because the 80's ended on dec 31st 1989and while there technically wasn't a year zero the fact is that time existed before the first year, essentially making it a year zero. I know alot of time and history existed before year 0001 but because humanity started a new way of counting years it's all consiterd as year zeroI'm currently working on a script about time, it's facinating

last of the decade, or not.

    by ricyteach

It is correct that there was no year 0 and that counting a decade from 1-10 makes sense.

However, it also makes sense to count decades using the 'tens' place, e.g. 90-99.

There is no definition by any formal body of what a decade is, exactly (that I know of- unless the SI has commented on it?).

Therefore everyone should be able to choose the definition that makes sense to them, while at the same time acknowledging there are other ways to define it that are equally valid, and QUIT ARGUING ABOUT IT. Geez.

The year 1 BC is considered to be "Year Zero"

    by jettl93

True that the Gregorian calender started at 1, but if you use the Astronomical year numbering then 1 BC is considered to be year zero for our current system of counting years.as well, all Buddist and Hindu calendars refer to a year Zero...seriously people if you belive that the next decade doesn't start on jan 1st 2010 then your just holding society back from advancing.here's the wikipedia ariticle on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomical_year_numbering as well as a quote from the great astronomer Jacques Cassini:

"The year 0 is that in which one supposes that Jesus Christ was born, which several chronologists mark 1 before the birth of Jesus Christ and which we marked 0, so that the sum of the years before and after Jesus Christ gives the interval which is between these years, and where numbers divisible by 4 mark the leap years as so many before or after Jesus Christ."

Nerds, you're missing the bigger point.

    by freakemovie

For all the math/history nerds saying that there was no year zero: you're absolutely right. But you're also under the assumption that there is a "correct" way to count decades. A decade is any random ten years. We've grown accustomed to grouping decades by the third digit in their year (i.e. the '40s were obviously 1940-1949), so let's just continuing to follow that widely-held system and say that December 31st, 2009 will mark the end of the '00s.If you want to be a little bitch and say that December 31st, 2010 will mark the end of the 201st decade of the Common Era, go right ahead, but you can't say 2010 is part of the '00s because that sounds fucking stupid.

Sorry but the next decade won't start until 2013

    by newc0253

    Think about it:

The next decade will undoubtedly become known as 'The Teens', because the majority of the years will end in 'teen'.

But teenage years don't run from 10-20, they run from 13-20.

So even though the new decade technically starts in about 6 weeks time, for all intents and purposes it won't start socially and psychologically for another 3 years.

Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

In the imaginationland arc (which could have easily been a movie and a movie that would have been successful) I rolled over laughing everytime they said "there's breach in sector seven!" "sector seven!?!?!" and then one of the south park kids jump-rolling through the grass, three times. This season has made me realize that one of the best ongoing jokes is the 'they took are jobs!' 'they took our jobs?' 'dtikrjbs!' 'dvirkrgbs!!!"

    by bueno_bob

South Park has been...alright this season, and there have been a few laughs, but this is nowhere near the same South Park that was once fresh, hip, irreverent and dangerously skirting the borders of decency. For the last few years, South Park has seemed mostly forced. The Michael Jackson's dead episode was so ridiculously unfunny and desperate to pull gags it was ridiculous and the rest of the shows (with the exception of the Fag bikers) have been similarly forced. I think it's time to put it out of its misery, personally.

Yes, this is the last year of the decade, morons. Unless you think 1980 was the last year of the 70's or that the year 2000 was somehow part of the 1990's. Stop worrying about "year zero" and just use some common fucking sense.

This season of SP has been good. Not as good as their amazing seasons (7-10) but still a step up from where things were a couple years back.

    by ryanbraun14

See here's the thing: Friday Night Lights is a truely exceptional show, fantastic casting which leads to characters with depth and arguably the best acting across the board of any show on TV.HOWEVER, I completely understand why Herc doesn't cover it--its not really in the 'aintitcool' wheelhouse in the sense that we all come here to talk about the geekier, more genre focused, shows/moviesr/comics. Friday Night LIghts just isn't really aintitcool material... this is why I and others get very frustrated about no talkbacks for supernatural and smalllville--because those are two prototypical genre shows that talkbackers love to talk about and the talkbacker losers love to hate on. Although i no longer care nearly as much as i used to because herc's ratings talkbacks serve as places we can talk about the shows on any given night...

seriously the show always works best when it takes a situation and exagerates it so that all of the characters treat it like it's an end of the world scenario (the internet episode is a prime example of this). This one was just funny, it took a simple thing like how everyone pees in the pool and made it into a disadter movie parady, very strong finish to a great season...now if it were only March already
