LOGLINE:
When a group of small town Texas high school kids play a prank that accidentally kills an old man, they're hunted down by the man's family of murderous hillbillies.
THE PROJECT:
An original horror movie for new media, SAVAGE COUNTY was filmed in high def in Memphis Tennessee. Presented in eight ten-minute chapters, SAVAGE COUNTY is designed to be watched either episodically or end-to-end in its feature-length form. Executive Produced by David Gale (VARSITY BLUES, JACKASS, AEON FLUX) and Craig Brewer (HUSTLE AND FLOW, BLACK SNAKE MOAN), the movie is coming to multiple platforms in February of 2009. It stars a mixed cast of Hollywood newcomers and Memphis locals as both the teen victims and killers. Directed by first-timer David Harris, the project is a tribute to TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and the old-school horror of the 70's, brought up-to-date with indie rock and rockabilly music and a twist of teen drama.
THE STORY:
On the last weekend before prom, a mismatched group of high school kids heads to a remote pond to drink beer and hang out. When the beer runs dry, the conversation turns to daring Patrick, the runt of the group, into knocking on the door of the Hardells - the reclusive family that owns the land the pond is on. Patrick takes up the dare, knocks on the Hardells' door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. When Patrick's friends come to his defense, the oldest Hardell is killed in the shuffle. Scared and guilty - the teens flee the crime. When the rest of the Hardell clan finds the old man murdered, they seek out vengeance. One-by-one, the teens are hunted down by Orry, the sexually oppressed mute, Willard, the long-haired wildman, and Kasper, the cold-blooded family leader.

I got a great new idea, its a buddy cop pic, but they don't get along right? Ya see ones about to retire, he's seen it all, or so he thinks. <p> A week from retirement he is suddenly paired with a psycho nam-vet/police dog/dog who witnessed a murder/ex best friend who he betrayed when undercover/rookie. They discover an insidious plot to smuggle guns/heroin/knock off shoes/slave labourers. They manage to solve the case whilst bringing down the mob/the yakuza/South Africans with diplomatic immunity etc etc...<p> Wheres my fucking money??????

People keep renting and buying the shit so it keeps up producing low rent off spring that isn't worth watching for any type of value. I have no clue if this is that kind of movie or not. I havn't even seen the trailer, but since people brought up torture porn i figured i'd throw in my two cents.

This is a TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE rip off. It even says it in the description. Calling movies like HOSTEL that are about torture "torture porn" is already questionable enough, but TCSM is not related to that genre at all. If you can't recognize one of the all time best and most famous horror movies in this premise and this trailer then you clearly are not qualified to be telling people what to do with their horror movies.<p> As for this press kit and trailer here, are we being Jo-Bro'd? I'm all for hillbilly revenge movies and Craig Brewer but I get confused when you start talking about "indie rock" and "new media" and 8 ten minute episodes and MTV and Facebook and all this. It could be a decent movie unless it was made by the clueless PR hustlers who came up with all that shit.

Although torture might be an over-used device in movies like Hostel and Saw, it is an excellent device for literature and movies. It can be used brilliantly, like in Orwells novel 1984, or the film Payback with Mel Gibson. And as the examples also illustrates, to achieve very different things. Torture for tortures sake is not interesting.

Marathon Man has one of the most brutal torture scenes ever filmed. Does that qualify, you unoriginal catchphrasers?

This project, be it "torture porn," a TCSM "tribute," whatever you want to call it, sounds utterly deplorable. Given that the idea is as stale as they come, the only thing that could make it work is near-genius execution. And this whole new-media, "hip bands" cockamamie bullshit is not the mark of genius.
