i didnt realize it was phantom limb, i guess since they use so many of the same voice actors for so many characters(i.e. mostly jackson and doc) I didnt realize that was who it was supposed to be, that makes me even more excited for the new episode. god today is a good day for tv, venture, californication, and new doctor who to boot!

    Warburton is expensive...

    by mcvamp

He doesn't hold the show hostage or anything, but he's got a set voiceover rate. Limiting Brock stretches the budget. Which sucks if you love Brock, but his triumphant return later this season should be well worth the wait. I too have warmed to Sergeant Hatred. "I was masturbating in front of the computer when..." Great stuff.

    Nerds

    by yourxgirlfriend

James Urbaniak plays Phantom Limb. And of course the nerds are not liking this season because a) they have moved the story and characters forward, and nerds are afraid of change, and b) nerds don't know shit about what makes something good. Go back and read the talkback for the pre-season 4 sneak-preview; everybody writes what they think would be good for the season and they are all terrible, unfunny ideas. NERDS!!!

    by oknight

(I haven't been following the blog, so correct me if I'm wrong, but...)

My impression of these guys is they just try to write shit and have it come out on time for their production-- sometimes they get hooked on one thing or another -- this season they wanted to de-Brock and play with Hatred, get back to the boys, downplay the Moppets, and we'll see.

    by jobacca

Due only to the story,I think. I have no doubt he'll be back once Sgt. Hatred royally fucks things up at the Venture compound. One of the things I like about this show is that the creators clearly have a story to tell...even if it involves dropping or using characters the fans may not be behind. I trust completely in both Doc and Jackson....but they damn well better kill those goddamn moppets!!!!

    by industrykiller!

for any show like I have this one. Then again maybe its because its one of the few TV shows I follow. But this and last season have been have been terrible compared tot eh first two. using characters the fans arent behind?? Thats an understatement. One note novelty characters like Dermott and Sgt. hatred are killing the show, sucking it dry of all the cleverness it once had. And it seems the "comic book world as mundane human existence" aspect of the show, is now devoid of all insight, leaving only a shallow pop culture referencing shell. I swear though Jackson and Hammer could do anything and people would apologize for it, so I dont expect any insight or intelligent discussion from the rabid fanbase.

Jimbo, if it's a Phantom Limb episode

by shut the fuck up donny

you may be left marginally clueless, as Phantom Limb episodes tend to involve some of the longest running threads in the series.

But again, that may be exactly what you need to see to appreciate this show. One of the reasons us "apologists" (as the "enlightened" IndustryKiller calls us) enjoy the show so much is that it has detailed continuity and story arcs that can run episodes at a time.

Doc and Jackson said Warburton was still under contract...

by shut the fuck up donny

They were asked about Brock's status at DragonCon, and they said Patrick wasn't going anywhere.

I mean, the end of last season was almost entirely devoted to Brock. It's probably a good idea to put him in the background for a while so we don't get burnt out of him.

    by wickedjacob

VB rocks. JackHammer (like it? I just came up with it) use the characters they want to use. I happen to like shows that don't cater to fans. How does Sgt. Hatred "suck the cleverness" out of the show? Brock is cool and badass, but his role was never to add "cleverness" to the show. And if you think Hatred is one-note, compare him to season one Dean. I hate shows and music acts that can't develop and would much rather see a show continue to develop even with the occasional misstep. In short, if you don't like this show, sorry sucks for you. I love it and really enjoy seeing things grow and change in this world.

And I promptly bought the first 3 seasons on DVD. While I appreciate the first season, I don't think it really got rolling until the second episode of season 2. And from the last 2 episodes of season 2 all the way through season 3 it has been nothing but epic. This season is shaping up to be just as awesome, and if the last episode was any indicator, it could even be the best one yet. Also, I want more Billy and White!

But I guess Monarch is their best creation. I love how they toned out the "evil and incompetent" in favor of a more complex, symphatetic character who happens to be a very wierd guy with a murder habit. Even Brock seems to kind of like him. The season needs more Doctor O though.

    Season 4 so far....

    by tomwaitsisgod

Has been nothing short of amazing. I was a little frustrated by the structure of ep 1, but that's because I had been waiting so long for season 4 that I had myself all set up to relax and have a nice brain massage at the hands of Jackson and Doc. Then it comes on and I realize I will have to think. Totally my own fault.
After that though, each progressive episode has felt like my favorite episode ever.

And there you have it..."One note novelty characters like Dermott and Sgt. hatred are killing the show." Hello fuckhead? They won't be one-note characters once they get DEVELOPED. I know in your world, it's the same thing day in day out. Get up. Run the shower while masturbating on the toilet. Telling your mom you took a shower. Going to school. Getting the crap kicked out of you. Eating lunch alone. Going home while others go out with friends. Masturbating again. Waiting 10 minutes and masturbating a third time even though it hurts. Playing with your Serenity action figures. Bed time. Here in the real world, we, you know, do new stuff and other new stuff happens and stuff. Oh, and jimbojones123; why don't you start with episode 1. Do you buy a book and flip open to the middle to see if you like it? I know it's not as exciting as the ratings and all, but some of us still give a fuck about spoilers and want to be surprised. I didn't even open this article until after I saw the ep but already you had fucked that surprise up since I read the front page earlier.Decent episode, a little light on the "why the fuck???" such as Billy giving up the Orb so damned quickly after buying into Rusty's speech about it last season, or why Phantom Limb has gone batshit insane (but now is far more menacing with a toaster, I will admit). Surprised Hatred needs his anti-pedo shots so damned often. And he really is a shitty bodyguard, even worse than he was a supervillain. Hey, did Billy ever get back his $10 mil since Hank was rescued by Team Venture and not The Monarch?

    Guild changes

    by shutupfanboy

I don't think was formed to be evil. There seems to be a civil war between 1800s Dr. Venture and Phantom Limb's grandfather. Phantom Limb's grandfather seemed to want to be both villains and musicians. I also think Phantom Limb's interpenetration of his grandfather's deeds are not as great as he thinks. I think the Guild decided it was more profitable to become a villain organization then roving musicians. Yet, they are not very good at it, so they made up the rules in order to keep other villains in line and not have the heroes just kill them when they attack at least not the main villains. The minions seem to be fair game.

You move the fuck along, I've seen every episode just like you have and I have every right to comment honestly. The first quarter of the episode was great until it quickly devolved into the ridiculously one note, almost dick joke level humor, of Sgt. Hatred, and mundane plotting. You can write unfunny characters for episodes on end as long as you eventually develop them? Have you sold this golden rule of comedy to Hollywood yet, because my friend you must publish. And with Hatred they already have "developed" him. He was a bad guy now he's a good guy, too bad he's still an unfunny, lowest common denominator, same joke over and over and over, bullshit character.

    Also, re: Apologist.

    by mockingbuddha

Apologist originally meant to speak like Apollo, who was the opposite of Dionysis and Pan. Since he was the god of wisdom, apologizing basically meant to speak with wisdom. Apollo represents logic, science, and rational thought, (in opposition to the magic and mania of Pan/Dionysis). Only much later did apology come to mean saying you were sorry. But apologists as applied to philosophies, religions, or even tv shows are still people who attempt to use logic and wisdom in vocal or written support of said philosophy, religion or tv show. I am proud to be an apologist for The Venture Bros as apparently we are much more intelligenter than the apologists for the haters. Boo Yah Bee-Yotch!
