Ray Bradbury Aboard Proposed Anthology!!

Published at:  Nov 13, 2009 2:53:34 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Literary icon Ray Bradbury has signed with a group of filmmakers in an effort to mount “The Bradbury Chronicles,” a proposed six-hour anthology TV series based on Bradbury’s work.

No channel or network is yet attached to the project.

The plan, according to producer Todd Klick, is to approach “A-list” directors and have them pick out Bradbury stories they’d like to helm. Bradbury, 89, would then turn the chosen stories into teleplays.

John Philip Dayton, who served as segment producer on Showtime’s 1985-1992 “The Ray Bradbury Theater,” will executive produce with Bradbury.

“Bradbury Chronicles” is being developed by newly formed White Oak Entertainment, comprised of Dayton, veteran publicist Dale C. Olson, actor-writer Merrill Capps (2008’s “No Exit”), documentarian Klick (2009’s “Rough Cut”) and post-production vet Cory Travalena. All will serve as producers on the project.

Man, I miss all the old anthology shows....

    by flim springfield

Ray Bradbury Theater, Twilight Zone, Tales From the Crypt, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Outer Limits, Amazing Stories... Nice little stories in one half-hour or hour. None of this stretching a story out for years crap.

    Better fast track this one

    by aloy

...if they want to have active participation from Mr. Bradbury. I'd love to see what they come up with in any case.

    The Addams Family

    by i_max_u_mini

I do not need to see another rehashing of Fahrenheit 451, Martian Chronicles would be nice, but I'd really like to see his take on the Addams Family. Bradbury was a friend of Charles Addams and helped with the original comic panels. He also wrote stories based on the charcaters, except he called them the Elliotts.

wish they would remake Martian Chronicles

    by oisin5199

as a really good miniseries. Too bad that the track record for miniseries remakes has been pretty awful.

I hope they do this and post them on Hulu

    by sebilrazen

No offense Ray, but your hatred of the internet offends me, I just want to pay it back a little. Oh, and I streamed Fahrenheit 451 from netflix to my computer, through the internet.

Martian Chronicles is pretty damn solid

    by v'shael

It had an amazing cast for its day.
The only story I missed, which I really wish they had made, was the one where the astronaut turns on his own expedition because he knows Humans will only fuck things up.

    I'd like to see "Banshee"

    by me_m

... from the book Toynbee Convector. For whatever reason, that story gets to me, and would hold up well in an anthology. But it would have to keep Bradbury's poetic language. "He wipes his hands on flesh; girls are his napkins, women his midnight lunch. He keeps them stashed in cellar vintages, and knows their years but not their names."

    I would definitely watch this.
And I also forget sometimes that Bradbury's still breathing.

Starting with a 3rd version of The Pedestrian

    by tangcameo

Actually I would love to see a revival of an anthology show of his stories. A lot of them adapted quite well to television, even the Canadian made ones. I even would like to see another attempt at 'Something Wicked...' even after that awful Disney adaptation which was only redeemed by the Jonathan Pryce/Jason Robards library scene.

"And the Moon Be Still As Bright" was indeed adapted for the old Martian Chronicles miniseries. Maybe you saw an edited version. ***I suspect that the stories selected for this new project will all be sci-fi or horror, but it would be a treat to see one or two of the Dublin stories adapted.

That's the story I'm talking about, yes. "—And the Moon Be Still as Bright" and "The Settlers"

But I don't think it was filmed for the mini-series. At least its not on the DVD I have, and I can't find any reference to it being filmed on the mini-series wikipedia page. The mini-series had an episode 2, called "The Settlers" and even a character called Parkhill. But the plot was completely different.
