Tis the season! Quint needs your recommendations for the annual Holiday Shopping Guide!

Published at:  Nov 06, 2009 7:32:51 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I can't believe it's been five years since I started compiling a Holiday Shopping Guide geared towards geeks the world over.

Year after year I seek out the coolest geek apparel be it toys, DVDs, Blu-Rays, collectibles, electronics, gadgets, video games, books and whatever else tickles my nerd fancy.

Click here to check out last year's first entry!

I love hearing from publicists, but it's always you, dear reader, who turn me on the to coolest shit. So the call has gone out again. I need you to let me know what you think are the coolest items out this holiday season, what's on your wishlist, what you hope to get to what you can only window-shop. The article covers cheap to For The Super Rich Only and I'm now fielding suggestions.

You can reach me via email here with your thoughts. There's also talkback below, but links are best sent through email.

I can't wait to get this list up and running. Expect it to hit the night before Thanksgiving, giving you guys hopefully a little time to shop and prepare your Black Friday runs.

...is pretty mind-blowing. Talk about something I never expected to see. The book Romancing the Vampire is worth mentioning. Tres cool. Has lots of stuff on movie vampires and it's put together like the Hanna Barbara book, with lots of "3-D" things stuck onto the pages. You should also consider the tons of "holy grail" soundtrack CDs that came out this year, even if they're now out of print or about to be. Goldsmith's "Seconds," Horner's "Something Wicked This Way Comes," "The China Syndrome" unreleased score, etc.

    A Kindle

    by chakraborty

I'm old fashioned, and I prefer to hold the actual book in my hand, and put it on my shelf, but for traveling, this would be great. Also, you can choose to listen to the book as it's read to you by the Kindle as you transition and perhaps cannot sit and read, like when you're walking in an airport. Plus it gives you instant access to the definitions of words you aren't familiar with.

Interesting choice. I saw that doc intheaters. It's very eerie what with the film narrated by Cobain himself through archived interviews. Definitely a must see for fans as it provides good insight into his childhood and musical development. I also found the choice of having the soundtrack Nirvana free nice as well. All the music in the film was music that inspired his artistry.

To be honest I was expecting something akin to tupac resurrection, but it was still good. I liked hearing about his gay buddy (kinda made me think of my own life) and was a little saddened when he talked about how his dad used to yell @ him when he would accidentally spill something like milk as a kid, and how he was so traumatized that he curses @ himself well into (then) present times when he made any boo-boo. I also related to him when he said he could be @ a party/club feeling good and people would think he had an angry/depressed (I forgot which) look on his face. I was kinda disappointed that there were no Nirvana songs but I understand that they're gonna have songs from bands that inspired him. I was pissed that I had waited a month for the bluray and when it finally came out I had to go all the way to torrance to get it, but it was worth it.

    Realistically...

    by gun_will_travel

Keeping it at $500 or less, with an emphasis on LESS:

Wii Sports Resort (with 2 motion control modules). Breathe some new life into your Wii system. $60 at Target.

PS/3. Because it's a lot less hassle and expense than a HTPC. And it plays Blu-Rays. And it's a lot cheaper now.

$125 Blu-Ray players. You'll probably need one for every TV in the house. Don't bother with Blu-Ray Live, it sucks.

New smartphones: Storm 2, Droid, iPhone 3G, HTC. Can't live without Facebook and internet streaming to my phone 24/7.

Guns & Ammo. Because Obama wants to outlaw them. And you never know when the a-hole in the office next door is going to go psycho. OK, guns cost more than $500. But every red-blooded American needs a few.

Gold. Because the economy is going to tank again next year, and stay in the crapper for a decade while we pay for the "stimulus."

New laptop. Because netbooks suck, Vista sucks, and it probably needs replacing anyway. And damn, laptops are cheap now.

External flash for your DLSR camera. Because direct-flash photos generally suck, especially indoors.

Gaming mouse. If you play PC games and you don't have one, it's like doing athletics wearing wooden clogs.

Yes, as the staunch atheists on the talkbacks prepare to celebrate the birth of their Savior, Jesus the Son of God, by exchanging gifts on Christmas day. I know, I know, it's just a secular holiday these days (unless you happen to be a Jewish atheist, in which you can pretend to celebrate Hannukah), and it's simply a custom at this point, yada yada yada. Still, seeing this article on this website just struck me as very, very funny. Carry on.

    "Winter" horror movies

like "The Shining" or "The Thing." Cool stuff to watch on a snowbound winter's night. Perhaps even "Dreamcatcher" for grotesque, goofy fun.
