Cool News
Tis the season! Quint needs your recommendations for the annual Holiday Shopping Guide!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I can't believe it's been five years since I started compiling a Holiday Shopping Guide geared towards geeks the world over.
Year after year I seek out the coolest geek apparel be it toys, DVDs, Blu-Rays, collectibles, electronics, gadgets, video games, books and whatever else tickles my nerd fancy.
Click here to check out last year's first entry!
I love hearing from publicists, but it's always you, dear reader, who turn me on the to coolest shit. So the call has gone out again. I need you to let me know what you think are the coolest items out this holiday season, what's on your wishlist, what you hope to get to what you can only window-shop. The article covers cheap to For The Super Rich Only and I'm now fielding suggestions.
You can reach me via email here with your thoughts. There's also talkback below, but links are best sent through email.
I can't wait to get this list up and running. Expect it to hit the night before Thanksgiving, giving you guys hopefully a little time to shop and prepare your Black Friday runs.

...CALVIN AND HOBBES hardcover box set.

Playstation 3 and Uncharted 2 (THE GAME of the year). Scalped TPBs (best comic series period). A hooker, gasoline, and a box of matches. A cat. Water bottles and batterys for the apocalypse. Toilet paper (the one with the story on it from the Ringu creator).

You probably know someone for whom this would be the perfect gift.

At www.privateislandsonline.com. Get a Canadian island for as cheap as $200,000 but the more tropical islands like in Mexico and the Caribbean are upwards of a million. Too much? Then rent one, like the tropical Brampton island in Australia for $2436 Aussie dollars/week: http://tinyurl.com/yecepxz

...is pretty mind-blowing. Talk about something I never expected to see. The book Romancing the Vampire is worth mentioning. Tres cool. Has lots of stuff on movie vampires and it's put together like the Hanna Barbara book, with lots of "3-D" things stuck onto the pages. You should also consider the tons of "holy grail" soundtrack CDs that came out this year, even if they're now out of print or about to be. Goldsmith's "Seconds," Horner's "Something Wicked This Way Comes," "The China Syndrome" unreleased score, etc.
-
1080p, bright enough for a living room with moderate ambient light control, around $1500 I'm stunned that more people don't consider projectors over Plasma's.

Complete your life.
-
Is this one. I'm compiling a list right now.
-
Indiana Jones dominated last year.
-
Although I've heard that the packaging scratches the discs, which is not good.
-
A wallbanger vibrating dildo. Give it to that cute girl who works the checkout counter at your local grocery store who you've always wanted to talk to, or, give it to that Stallone fan in your life who can stick it to the floor and squat on it while watching Over the Top!
-
I thought the series was coo', and that case has to be one of the coo'est ever. The episode where fry thought his bro ripped off his life is one of my fave episodes of any show ever.

The newly repackaged Six Feet Under: The Complete Series..
by karl childers
http://tinyurl.com/ygz5h9z
The original box set was a neat concept, but the packaging was a bit crappy. The "grass" came off and the way it opened sucked balls. I don't think this version has the 2 soundtrack CD's or the "In Memoriam" book.
I wish HBO would repackage "The Wire: The Complete Series". That current box set has those shitty cardboard inlays that scratch the hell out of the discs. -
I agree with The Wire but the packaging is terrible for the price you pay!
-
I'm old fashioned, and I prefer to hold the actual book in my hand, and put it on my shelf, but for traveling, this would be great. Also, you can choose to listen to the book as it's read to you by the Kindle as you transition and perhaps cannot sit and read, like when you're walking in an airport. Plus it gives you instant access to the definitions of words you aren't familiar with.
-
if they have PS3, God of War 3 Ultimate Edition.
-
...the Kindle was on last year's list. Nevermind.

Pretty deep documentary(?)/interview fliq, but admittedly boring sometmes since it barely shows any pics/vids of Kurt himself, only @ the end do they show a little montage of pics of him. The cover is the coo'est kurt cobain pic ever imo.
-
"Fresh"...It has NOTHING to do with Christmas (okay maybe a snowman here or there *wink nudge*) but it's a classic childhood movie of mine. Even though children should NOT watch this movie. Jesus I'm not even a parent and I sound like a P.T.A meeting.
-
...the Buttrotica Do-it-yourself Home Anal Bleaching Kit.
-
Interesting choice. I saw that doc intheaters. It's very eerie what with the film narrated by Cobain himself through archived interviews. Definitely a must see for fans as it provides good insight into his childhood and musical development. I also found the choice of having the soundtrack Nirvana free nice as well. All the music in the film was music that inspired his artistry.
-
I loved it last year...Now i have something to look forward to following the BNAT List!
-
To be honest I was expecting something akin to tupac resurrection, but it was still good. I liked hearing about his gay buddy (kinda made me think of my own life) and was a little saddened when he talked about how his dad used to yell @ him when he would accidentally spill something like milk as a kid, and how he was so traumatized that he curses @ himself well into (then) present times when he made any boo-boo. I also related to him when he said he could be @ a party/club feeling good and people would think he had an angry/depressed (I forgot which) look on his face. I was kinda disappointed that there were no Nirvana songs but I understand that they're gonna have songs from bands that inspired him. I was pissed that I had waited a month for the bluray and when it finally came out I had to go all the way to torrance to get it, but it was worth it.

The 38th, and hopefully not last, discworld novel. Featuring the wizards of Unseen University trying their hand at college sports. Its certainly at the top of my wish list. And it, along with the rest of his Discworld books, should on any Sci-fi/Fantasy geeks shopping list.

I got most of theose games pre-ordered (CoD4 gives you a $20.00 certificate towards your next videogame purchase courtesy of Amazon.)As for L4D2, the game is pretty much the same as the last one save for different settings and new characters. I played the demo and the graphics looked like ass and not "ass" in a good way like Kim Kardasian's sweet ass, but more like Rosie o donnel's.*ACK*aside from CoD4 most of the good shit comes out early next year:Bayonetta,Darksiders, army of Two the 40th day, Mass Effect 2,Bioshock 2,etc.(gotta put all my funds aside for 2010.)

if it's a Director's Cut with more scenes added, I'm there!

Seriously, they need to put that out with both Wimmer and Bale doing commentary. Someone needs to splice the rant with Equilibrium and put that on You Tube. I see that the Rob Zombie Dragula/Equilibrium montage is back up. That's badass.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE INCLUDE THE HARVEY COLLECTIONS FROM DARK HORSE!
There are five of them now, and they encompass CASPER, RICHIE RICH, HOT STUFF, BABY HUEY and THE HARVEY GIRLS.

Shelflifeclothing.com has some original movie t-shirts and hoodies, including a lot of Kurosawa and Hong Kong movie stuff, a kaiju tee, spaghetti western tees, poster art and a shirt for soundtrack geeks called "I need to score." http://su.pr/1Pb6aw

Keeping it at $500 or less, with an emphasis on LESS:
Wii Sports Resort (with 2 motion control modules). Breathe some new life into your Wii system. $60 at Target.
PS/3. Because it's a lot less hassle and expense than a HTPC. And it plays Blu-Rays. And it's a lot cheaper now.
$125 Blu-Ray players. You'll probably need one for every TV in the house. Don't bother with Blu-Ray Live, it sucks.
New smartphones: Storm 2, Droid, iPhone 3G, HTC. Can't live without Facebook and internet streaming to my phone 24/7.
Guns & Ammo. Because Obama wants to outlaw them. And you never know when the a-hole in the office next door is going to go psycho. OK, guns cost more than $500. But every red-blooded American needs a few.
Gold. Because the economy is going to tank again next year, and stay in the crapper for a decade while we pay for the "stimulus."
New laptop. Because netbooks suck, Vista sucks, and it probably needs replacing anyway. And damn, laptops are cheap now.
External flash for your DLSR camera. Because direct-flash photos generally suck, especially indoors.
Gaming mouse. If you play PC games and you don't have one, it's like doing athletics wearing wooden clogs.

Yes, as the staunch atheists on the talkbacks prepare to celebrate the birth of their Savior, Jesus the Son of God, by exchanging gifts on Christmas day. I know, I know, it's just a secular holiday these days (unless you happen to be a Jewish atheist, in which you can pretend to celebrate Hannukah), and it's simply a custom at this point, yada yada yada. Still, seeing this article on this website just struck me as very, very funny. Carry on.
-
I know I suggested them last year, but they are really cool.... and cheap.
-
like "The Shining" or "The Thing." Cool stuff to watch on a snowbound winter's night. Perhaps even "Dreamcatcher" for grotesque, goofy fun.
