Figures in grey represent repeats.
* “Mentalist” soundly beat in 18-49 for the first time “Private Practice,” which keeps bleeding the demo while “Mentalist” stays strong. Total viewers in millions at 10 p.m.:
16.21 The Mentalist
09.10 Private Practice
04.83 The Jay Leno Show
02.58 The Real Housewives of Orange County
01.99 It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
01.20 Tosh.0
* “Bones” tied “FlashForward” for the first time in 18-49 and beat it in overall viewers.
* With “Flashforward” and “Bones” both hitting new lows, “Survivor” again dominates at 8 p.m. in both 18-49 and total viewers. Total 8 p.m. viewers in millions:
12.43 Survivor
08.66 Bones
08.57 FlashForward
05.45 Community
02.64 Supernatural
02.34 The Jeff Dunham Show
* A Swanson-packed “Parks and Recreation” (4.91 million total viewers at 8:30) hit its 18-49 season high; “Community” hit its best 8 p.m. number in the same demo. If “FlashForward” keeps bleeding demo at this rate, it could soon find itself fourth in its timeslot with “Vampire Diaries” licking as its heels.
* “Fringe,” back after a baseball hiatus, hit a new series low. Hopefully upcoming episodes featuring Massive Dynamic and The Observers will remind fans it’s still on. (Note to Fox publicity: keep sending those screeners!!) Lead-in “Bones” also hit a season (series?) low in 18-49. Total 9 p.m. viewers in millions:
15.60 CSI
13.95 Grey’s Anatomy
08.09 The Office
04.85 Fringe
04.09 Vampire Diaries
02.44 Real Housewives of Atlanta
* “Leno” enjoyed another rare uptick, but Thursday was the second night in a row it scored substantially lower in 18-49 than a CW show (“Top Model” Wednesday; “Vampire” Thursday). (Which means the only Big Five primetime show beaten by the former king of late night was “Supernatural.”)

Were both classics last night. Watched P&R for first time since premiere and was underwhelmed. It was okay I guess, but way overpraised.
-
There was originally a 3 year plan for this thing. Better scale that back to one year.
-
Parks and Recreation has gotten WAY better this season, so it might sound like people are overpraising it, but the way i see it, the 'overpraising' isn't really calling it a hilarious comedy, i think its that its getting positive comments RELATIVE to how underwhelming it was last year... can't believe it got another season, but they've really stepped up quality wise... it still can't touch always sunny, the office, south park, 30 rock, Community (suprise hit for me this year) and i'll throw in scrubs too.
-
Damn baseball. I think it will probably uptick to a 2.1 next time but I can't believe it lost so much after Bones. It has kept most of the lead-in this season.
-
Maybe those asses at Fox will move it back to Tuesday. Thursday is too packed already.
-
and that's what those long breaks gets you
psst, I'll tell you another secret
Viewers hate season finale cliffhangers.
I've quit shows over them, and so have many people I know.
Your show ain't dallas, your character ain't jr, and most of all this ain't the 70's
Wrap your seasonal arcs up nice and tidy and start a new one next season.
No one wants to wait months to see something wraped up in the 1st 5 mins of a new season, that should have been wrapped up in the last 20 mins of the previous season.
It pisses them off and they quit your ass -
Might explain the low numbers for Bones and Fringe. Fringe was a good creepy stand alone episode last night. I agree that Thursdays is way too competitive. I end up watching half the Thursday shows on Hulu.
-
so it saddens me that ratings are down. pretty fucking stupid if you ask me to take a show that people were starting to really get into, and ratings we're climbing, then move it to the most crowded night in TV. seriously FOX, you're beginning to become a true parody of yourselves. why must you do this to your audience building shows? it's not funny anymore.
-
continues to swim in the toilet.
-
Didn't know Fringe was new last night. Time-Warner still listed the ballgame on their on-screen schedule yesterday afternoon, and I thought for sure Fox wouldn't be stupid enough to run new episodes of their shows when there was obvious confusion about what was going to be on that night, even from the big cable outlets. Since the ballgame wasn't running, I figured at best they'd show a rerun of "House" or something. So I missed the episode, since I don't have time to play guessing games with Fox when they're not bothering to make much effort to clear up what's scheduled. Never underestimate Fox's ability to screw things up, I guess.
-
...you know, maybe my all-time favorite fighter, Marvelous Marvin Hagler was beaten by Sugar Ray Leonard in a fight where the judges scored the rounds based on Leonard managing these showy flurries in the last thirty seconds of each round after Hagler had dominated the first two and a half minutes. I've always thought if the same judges had that same fight to score again they would have given it to Hagler (who should have been the winner). Fringe started its first season slow, but it threw some great combinations in the last seven episodes and won a lot of goodwill, so much goodwill that I forgave it the slow start, the stodgy pacing, predictable outcomes and unformed characterization that marked the first two thirds of season one. Two seasons in a row, though? We're well into the mix, and outside of one preordained death of a regular and an appearance by Leonard Nimoy to repeat precisely the warnings Dunham had heard from other sources in season one (but it's Leonard Nimoy saying it now!) this is an awfully slow start. I'm still hanging in there for Walter, but Fringe needs to start throwing some punches.
-
I wonder how many of these idiots who did not realize that the Yankee's won it in game 6, and that Fox had TV on last night, are now watching it on Hulu!
-
The DVR guide didn't change to from baseball to Fringe until sometime Thursday. If it wasn't for Herc (THANK YOU!!) posting a talk back, I wouldn't of known it was a new episode. Again, this show was doing fine last year and they had to stick it on Thursday's.
BTW Herc, I know you hate Supernatural (or dislike it); but man has the show gotten good. Last night's "Lost In TV Land" was hilarious. "You're going to need a bigger mouth". -
Loved the opening credits and theme song."Dr. Sexy, M.D." was perfectly done. I think they just lifted dialogue straight out of "Grey's Anatomy"("You're a brilliant surgeon but you're a coward")It was hilarious seeing that Dean had a bit of a man-crush on Dr. Sexy.
-
Why do they have to put all the good shows on one night? I'm watching way less tv this season, because I get it all done in 2 nights (all praise the DVR), and I waste way less time channel surfing before and after the shows I actually want to watch, since I just don't watch TV 5 nights a week now. XBOX can thank them for the extra gaming, I guess.
-
IN HIS ASS I SAY
-
because he does
-
Yet, it hits a SERIES LOW!
-
As he has said, many a time, he just doesn't watch it. It's Herc's column, as an editor, he'll post what he's intereseted in. AICN is not a headline news site, it's the editors own personal bloggy geek-out site.
Hardly anyone gives Herc actual credit for turning Coax from dead-air into "Must-Post Opinion" TBs. -
Paints a better picture.
-
technically, Herc did give supernatural a chance--i looked it up... i was doing a search for supernatural talkbacks mainly looking for herc's 'AMAZON DVDS!!!____!!! ______!!! ______!!! SUPERTNATURAL!!!' In an effort to see if herc was pushing dvds of supernatural (found 1 instance) but then I stumbled across Herc's review of the first season. I honestly can't blame him for writing a review for the show and was underwhelmed... I'm happy I didn't watch it from the start instead of finding out three seasons in that it kicks ass. I would have given up after the first episode, and i would have been alot more reluctant to give it another shot. (also, Herc did not seem like he hated it at all). Anyways, while this show was funny (the herpes commercial was priceless) it was probably the weakest of the season... one thing though: when supernatural tries to be funny (maybe two episodes a season) the episodes ARE FUNNY. Rescue Me deserves the honor of masterfully weaving together hilarious moments and (sometimes disturbing) hard hitting drama--except in THE SAME EPISODE. You know it does this great when an episode of a funeral/wake for tommy's son has you heartbroken one minute, laughing at a hilarious moment, and then going bake to heartbreaking again... its incredible. Supernatural can do great humor, just not in the same episode as the mytholo9gy / supernatural-something episodes. I think i was let down by this episode (still great by other show's standards, though) because the two or three before this week's started out like a 'monster of the week' episode and then halfway or 2/3rds of the way in, they connect it in a HUGE way to the mythology--and i never saw it coming... so i was expecting the same this week... i was also disappointed that they decided to make Gabriel look like the trickster... i didn't like that at alkl--correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this the first time we've met an archangel? The way the show has shown the archangel, you didn't see them, but the sounds, earth shaking and that thick white light beaming into the room conveyed the incredible amount of power the archangels have... so we finally meet one, and he looks like a total douche, which was PERFECT casting for the trickster, but i want a bad ass archangel.

The second or third episode. People finally have the guts to not be pedestrian, and the episode is pretty kickass. Congrats to writers to finally pulling off an advancement in plot. Stop taking notes from seasons 3-7 of Smallville. I actually have interest in this show for the first time ever. This does show that the show may have been better as a mini series. Mentalist was a top five episode last night as well. Jane may be just as high as Jack Bauer on my list of favorite TV characters. Community golden again and Michael Scott's realization that Pam's mom is not for him is greatness. 30 Rock was very hit or miss. While there were plenty of laugh out loud moments, the overall show was a solid 5 of 10. P&R should have played the Parks/Libraries rivalry harder than the failed marriage. Oh, and the shoe shine guys stuff is never funny. Overall, Parks was better than 30 Rock. Shames me to say it. Last nights TV was one of the most enjoyable evenings on TV in quite a long time. Bravo to all. Never grabbed on to Fringe though. Way to much scattershooting in the bizzare that never fit with the ongoing plot. I just find it funny that these wild events are now coming together so very frequently now that this team has been put together.
-
We met Rafael earlier in the season. He was pretty intimidating.
-
"Way to much scattershooting in the bizzare that never fit with the ongoing plot"
What are you talking about dude? The main plot is about an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. What is more bizarre than that?? -
I posted this point a week or two ago, and its that I had ordered all the back issues of the 90's run of Titans on ebay, and was reading them--an early arc was about a Goth musician who brings teenagers to a pergatory where there isn't much to be happy about, but there is no pressure, stress, anger, depression, disappointment etc. SO, the titans were cross-referencing missing children reports with the locations the musican had played across the country, and when they connected the dots, they formed a pentagram across the country--like the railroad in one of the early seasons of supernatural. Now don't get me wrong--this doesn't bother me AT ALL.... in fact, I ENCOURAGE stealing like that--its a very cool but ultimately subtle plot element in the comics, plus 99% of tv viewers would have no clue that (which i consider) one of the coolest 'twists' supernatural has done... see, this is what the CLUELESS FUCKING DOUCHEBAG Tim Kring should have been doing from episode ONE of heroes... you don't need to steal arcs, just cool details and nobody would know... as opposed to basically BLATANT rip-offs i've ever witnessed in any medium--stealing the entire plot of 'the fly' for mohinder's arc.
-
Djamdjean said: "We met Rafael earlier in the season. He was pretty intimidating." Hmmm, I can't remember that... care to remind me (not going to sift through all this seasons epi8sode to remind me). I quit my 120 dollar a week pot habit over two years ago, but i still feel like my memory isn't as good as it should be... its alot better than it was, though.LOVED how they worked in the first of the four horsemen, though... he seemed the badass and that indifferently-evil kind of character we've seen a few times.
-
Is the biggest plagiarism of a show ever. I'm surprised Marvel didn't sue their ass for basically lifting the X-Men and renaming the characters and changing some of the powers. Although, I stopped watching that dreck after season 1.
-
Season 5, Episode 3 – Aired: 9/24/2009
Free to Be You and Me
Sam decides to stop hunting but has a hard time after he receives a surprise visit. Dean and Castiel try to find the Archangel Raphael in their bid to stop the Apocalypse. -
Did you ever post on RSPW?
(Apoligize for the duplicte query). -
Are you referring to Scott Keith's blog?
-
rec.sport.pro.wrestling newsgroup. You'll never find a a more wretched hive of scum & villany. You didn't think I have "wrestling" in my TB nick just because I wanted to grapple with a fictional characters, did you? I used to work in the biz for years.
-
LOL, nah, I figured you like(d) wrestling. I only brought up Scott Keith's blog because it is www.rspwfaq.com.
-
Are you Hulk Hogan?
-
I never was a wrestler but part of the "office & a friend of mine passed away - wrestlers will do that frequently & at a young age - so we are having a tribute show for him.

Tony Condello was the guy who gave me the 'Buffy" nickname. In wrestling, you don't choose your nick; the promoter GIVES it to you. One time he said to me (in his very heavy accent), "Hey Buff, I saw you in a movie last night. You were fighting...what the fuck his name...Dracula or some shit".
Was with those fucks for over five years; touring.

Really. A disembodied (probably alien) black entity invades people at will and makes them "do things?" Wait - throw in "Star Trek rip-off" as well. Who watches this dreck? 15-year-olds with no knowledge of popular culture?

Fringe let me introduce your new home called the circular file
by xiphos_2
your spot is reserved along with Dollhouse and next to T:TSCC in the trash heap of mediocre to down right insultingly bad TV SciFi.
-
just in case you might get a series rolling by the middle of the season or maybe in season two or three.
Planning should involve more than asking the pizza delivery guy what he thinks might work. -
You people better order one.
-
awesome episode, too...good to see it at 1.3
-
The lead is always how much Leno sucked. ALWAYS.
-
...didn't even know it was on. That's what a long baseball hiatus will do to a show, even when the series ends a little early.
-
And Leno sucks too.

Those folks that switched to Bones don't know what they missed
by dreamwriter
Best FlashForward episode by far.
-
For thinking there's no way to stop cats from making too much noise.
Kitten Mittons!
Egg. -
But GODS there were scenes where people just stared at each other and never said anything!
-
..the show where NOTHING HAPPENS!!
-
yeah, I have to agree with you there. It started out so good, but the other night one character commits suicide because he saw that he killed another character in his FF. So, when he died some stuff in the story changed. That was real shitty.
-
Shit comes off a bit pretentious, yet it's a X-Files ripoff.Plus theose two idiots Orci and kurtzman was behind it.I'll give it 2 months before FUX decide to pull it's plug.
-
Fringe is still a decent show imo, but something is just a little off, Supernatural is awesome as always, I really am wondering how everything will pull off at the end of the season, It's Always Sunny, man so freaking funny all the time, but that FlashFoward, I really tried to get into it, but soooooooo boring, I gave up on it 2 weeks ago :(
-
I think the irony here is that you forget who good your memory used to be. ;)
-
Thanks for showing the total viewers numbers.
-
To Tuesdays! Or Wednesdays! But for the love of God take it off Thursdays or it'll be gone!
-
It is ironic that probably one of the bigger things that hurts Fringe is that they don't pay enough attention to their overall story arc and do too many subpar monster of the week episodes. It is ironic since JJ had failure several years back with Alias because they focused too much on the overall story arc and new viewers couldn't jump into the complicated plotline. Lost pretty much was a game changer with viewer's attitudes on these things.
-
sad part is that Fringe had one of its all time best epsiodes this week and nobody watched it...definitely the best standalone monster-of-the-week episode...hopefully FOX will re-air that episode sometime soon for those that missed it
-
Whenever I see FRINGE on tv, all I can think of is how much it feels like some FAKE show people would be watching in an episode of THE X-FILES. You know how ot is. Mulder and Scully would be standing around talking and some kid would be in the background watching a show called FRINGE where some lady doc who couldn't possibly be a lady doc because she spends 8 hours a day getting glammed up to always look fabulous is talking a skinny bald guy and she's saying "So ... you're saying .... he died by butterfly?" And then the music goes DUN DUNNNNNNN or WOOOOWRRRRRRRRRR.
-
You're cool, man!
-
It feels a bit off this season for me. In the first season, it seemed as though even the stand-alone episodes were connected to the overall story (it seemed as though every incident was a test by that terrorist group trying to open the doorway). This year seems to have a lot of episodes where there is no obvious connection.
-
Fringe is turning into X-Files (in a bad way) - there's another universe trying to break through and destroy us all. Stop with the 'monster of the week' stories and get back on track!
It's clear the writers don't have enough material on that storyline to flesh it out all season, so we're stuck with meaningless filler episodes. -
They will both be gone, by probally next year.
-
I see I'm not the only one who didn't know Fringe was on Thursday. My DVR didn't show it scheduled to record and only after seeing this talkback did I figure it was showing a new ep. The dvr guide showed baseball on Fox HD, but I was able to record it in terrible standard def. Why does Fox want this show to fail so badly? Either they honestly want it to fail or they have the stupidest programmers ever. Move it back to Tuesday and PROMOTE the time change. Thursdays are killing it.
-
SYTYCD is two hours for a few more weeks on Tues, and there isn't enough time between it lowering to one hour and the beginning of Idol in the spring for any other show to gain momentum. And Wednesday will be SYTYCD and Idol results throughout the year, and there's no way they're going to move Glee out of its admittedly perfect lead-in.
-
I'm fucking sick and tired of this shitty network screwing over decent shows that Ilove.
Shoving Fringe to a crowed Thursday night slot, and keeping it off our screens for 2 weeks is doing it no favors at all.
Only a behemoth like Lost could stand those kind of tactics. -
Dull as shit episode. The wife fell asleep. And yeah, pair this fucking thing with House on Mondays already, so I can just watch The Office and Third Rock and read for the rest of the night instead of having to record one or the other.
And FlashForward definitely was improved, but it's still dopey as all fuck. -
Bones is the worst show in the history of TV, the fact that its still on and popular is proof that America should just pack it in...
-
Fringe, not so much.
-
Same reason as everyone else... I rely on my DVR to do it. Yet it says something that I didn't know when it was scheduled to come off the air (I'd have known for sure if it was Lost or BSG). The show barely hung onto my interest in season 1 and that's because they had a few really cool episodes and the overall story arch has some interesting aspects to it. It might pick up again once they return to the main story but missing an episode could be the nail in the coffin for me. I could track it down with torrents but I'm not interested enough in the show to even bother.
-
First she's pissed off at Michael for dating her Mom, and then she's pissed off at Michael for dumping her Mom on her birthday...but during the birthday dinner when Pam and Jim could see that Michael was starting to become disinterested in her mother, you could see the joy on her face. Then the bitch slaps Michael for doing what she wanted him to do in the first place. I hope she gets raped by Dwight.
-
It's really shit now. No one but nerds watch it anyway.
-
I want to gloat over SG:U's demise
-
Good, becasue it's the worst scifi show on the box right now and has been on an ever decreasing slide since the first season. This season has brought us a a woman who can see colourful sound, Teabag reading the future with Etch-a-sketch ink on a ladies bare-back, even more annoying comedy routines with Hiro, even more ridiculous character journeys with Sylar and a cheap Lesbian kiss just to please the fanboys! End this shite PLEASE!
-
Lockes is a lonely young man with few to no friends, most likely suffering from Asberger's Syndrome. He has a wounded spirit (like a broken leg) resulting either from years of bullying, childhood abuse, family trauma, or a combination of the three. He is angry at the world, yet he wants nothing more than to be a part of the group, but his attempts are feeble at best because he knows from experience that no matter how hard he tries, he will be rejected. His family life is dysfunctional, yet he hopes that despite this, he might be able to achieve something and eventually have peace and resolve within his family....much like the skywalker family. He hopes one day his broken spirit may be healed like a pair of broken wings so that he may let his spirit soar...instead of wallowing in depression and self-loathing.
-
Stop projecting yourself onto other people thanks.
-
Then you come out as the weirdo.
And if "Fringe" were to move to Mondays, as somebody suggested, where would 24 go? -
I'm doing a public service. Let the healing begin. Oh, and fuck you, Lenny Nero.
-
I have nothing personal against you. If this is a public service, put some effort into it. But now you want me to heed your words?Great going. Now I'm so on your side.
-
I just can't help but wonder when Harry first started this site back in the late 90's, did he envision a time when TV ratings would be reported with such frequency and enthusiasm. I mean I really like Herc and all, but something doesn't feel right about this...
-

I wonder if Harry envisoned Talkbackers hating everything
by lockesbrokenleg
too?
-
Pam wasn't happy when Michael seemed to lose interest. She was honestly happy when she saw Michael was being nice to her mom. That's how I saw it, anyway... And Michael was right to decide to end it, but chose a horrible time and place to do it.
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees Heroes as an X-Men ripoff. I was always surprised people didn't make a bigger stink about it myself.
-
Or just great character development? I was excited to get some back-story on Broyles. Seems like season one was the hook, and now we'll really get to know everyone before the shit goes down.
-
everything about it is complete nonsense.
they don't even bother to properly explain the plot of most of these episodes, they just expect people to lick up this shit.
And Why is everything dependent on ONE crazy, unfunny old codger?
They are discovering all of this amazing stuff ...wouldn't scientists flock to be a part of these GREAT discoveries?
No, that won't fit into this slop of nonsense.
What garbage.
At least, Olivia is cute... -
Who is going to release the information on all these supernatural cases? Oh right, the secretive organization known as the FBI. Seriously? Your problem with this scifi/fantasy show is that?
-
if you like the show, i'm happy for you.
I love scifi shows. I loved BSG. I love lost. And i'm even getting into Flashfoward.
but on Fringe, the writers don't even try to explain what is going on even in a pseudo-intellectual way ... even shows that have fantastic premises ..there still needs to be a sense of plausibility.
Besides that... the monster of the week type show is hit or miss and when it misses its just ridiculous and boring. And the overall, overarching storyline isn't going anywhere ... its meandering. What was the point of Olivia going to that guy in the bowling alley? That just seemed to be a waste of time. Another plot point that went nowhere. And yes, it would be nice if they had somebody helping Dr. Frankenstein every once in awhile
Hey, if you like it. Than thats cool... i'm just venting my frustrations about the show. I WANT to like it. I watch it every week … like I watch Heroes… rolling my eyes at the wasted potential.
-
And I HATE Goyer, but wow. That last episode was a kick in the nuts reminiscent of The Tudors.
It better stay on or I'll find you bastards. -
The new episode might have been one of the best ever. Erik's utter self destruction was awesome and hilarious!
-
Not just his, but the Galu Guys' alliance. They were all but guaranteed to be in the final four. They control Shambo, and the 3 girls would have voted any Foa Foa member in order to stay in the game a little longer. Once all the Foa's were gone they could have used Shambo to pick off the girls so they couldn't mount an opposition (probably blindsiding Shambo after 1 or 2 of the girls is gone). They played Russell brilliantly in getting him to use the idol, but then vote out one of their own. Galu goes from being a team with 2-1 numbers on their side to an every-man-for-himself situation.
-
If Simon Baker preens and winks at the camera one more fucking time I'll kick him in his vag. He's even annoying in promos.
-
There was no glue holding the tribe together. Russell, though he was cornered into giving up the idol, can at least keep his tribe together. Although, I suspect John set Erik up. I'll be watching the Ryan Reynolds wannabe closely over the next couple of episodes.
