Figures in grey represent repeats.
* This year’s World Series was the highest-rated in five years.
* “Leno,” which got a slight bump with Michelle Obama, hit a new Wednesday low with former first lady Laura Bush.
* 10 p.m. shows that beat “Leno” include not only “CSI: NY” and “Eastwick” but also Comedy Central’s “South Park,” with a literally redefining episode.
* The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” petite edition (I think the “fat one” tops out at 88 pounds) hit a personal best, nabbing a better 18-49 score than such Big Four Wednesday shows as “Eastwick,” “Hank” and “Leno.”
* Besides the Wednesday edition of “Leno,” series hitting new first-run season lows against the World Series included “Gary Unmarried,” “Criminal Minds,” “CSI: NY,” “Hank,” “The Middle,” “Cougar Town,” “Eastwick,” “SVU,” and “Mercy” (in its first airing since earning a full first-season order).

What will we do with you...
-
He's been bitter ever since.
-
He dissed Herc back in 1988.
-
Leno is a talentless douche. I'm glad he's getting destroyed in the ratings and happy for every word that Herc posts about his demise. Fuck that cock. He's backstabbing Conan now just like he did to Dave all those years ago.
-
what a fucking douche
-
They ran out of episodes of Room Raiders?
-
The Jenna Bush interview was CRINGE WORTHY!! She came off as a total moron, and she's a corespondent on the Today Show now? What a cluster fuck.
-
So stop it.
-
should the ratings stories stop?
-
and keep the ratings stories.
-
Not until Leno is finally gone. Every ratings share he goes down makes me happy. In all honesty thought, the ratings thing is interesting in august/sept and january when new shows show up. Give me an idea of whether or not to invest time into a show to avoid another Journeyman situation. Still pisses me off how much I liked that show and how it was taken off.
-
I look forward to the daily talkback on the subject. Plus, we need constant reminders on how much Leno sucks.
-
And stop using tons of exclamation points implying this is exciting news for you, almost as if you'e gleeful. I think it perpetuates the perception of negativity and bad ratings, just like the news only seeming to report on death, destruction, and mayhem. There are many other stories out there, but the news seems to only focus on those kinds of stories. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, just like exit polling.
I'm not a television critic, so I don't need a daily update on the numbers that shows are doing. -
That's pathetic. Especially for a Late Night host. REALLY pathetic.
-
because MTV's the saddest cocksucking excuse for a network on the air. Always has been, always will be.
-
It's become my favorite thing about aicn. As great as tv is now it's nice to have an almost daily column where you could discuss any show.
-
Because they give a talkback opportunity to shows that sometimes aren't. But I agree that the stories ought to be posted in a manner that doesn't make them seem like they're constantly reveling and rooting for failure.
-
...and I think it should shy away from ratings stories for the same reasons. Quantity does not denote quality.
-
Did you all just start coming here?
-
I like ratings. Daily, and daily Jay Leno bashing, get's pretty old. Not that I love Jay Leno, but the dead horse can only be beat so often. But this daily stuff is clutter-y and cuts into space for other Coax stuff (you have limited space compared to the front page, do you really want to clutter it up with ratings EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.)
Herc, you obviously have a system worked out to calogue the numbers, just stockpile it and do it, like, every Sunday then you can go through each show, each day, in as much detail as possible. and then it'll be done for another week. -
i'm no leno fan, but he doesn't need to be the headline unless it's warranted. keep up the good work.
-
Is it really a big deal anymore?
-
Keep them going. I really don't care about the ratings, but it works well to have a daily coaxial post, rather than posts on different shows. This way, we have a forum for discussion about every show. It keeps the SUPERNATURAL nutters from acting out.
Ideally, I'd like Monday's post on Monday (for example), so we can post realtime observations, and then have that updated with the ratings when you get them. Does that make sense? -
drop herc
-
...if for no other reason than because it provides open ended talkbacks for shows that might not otherwise get them. Two of the biggest benefactors so far---Smallville and SGU. If you ask this same question in a Friday ratings posting, I think pretty much everyone over there would say the same thing. So please....keep up the good work, and keep the ratings stories coming. They're informative and give a much more complete picture of the TV industry. -J.
-
See headline.
-
it reminds me what i need to download.
why no SOA thread?? best thing on TV imho
-
There are rumors, though, that the Phillies will be written out of the series. The network has also hinted that there will be a push to go with younger umpires to draw in the coveted 18-49 demo.
-
I love the taste of Schadenfreude in the morning... it tastes of vindication... Someday that show is going to end.
Really, Herc, please keep up the coverage. -
I agree with those above me, it creates a springboard for conversations about shows that might not otherwise get attention. If you guys are smart you'll take notice of what people are talking about here and use that info when deciding what stories to put up. Not that I'm telling you guys how to do your job, you do it very well already.

You can do the ratings stories, just drop the daily Leno headlin
by flim springfield
The Leno watch was interesting in September. Now it's November, no on cares. If they did, his ratings would be better.
-
It's annoying as hell..
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
but I also have way too much time on my hands
-
Other sites do it, and do it better -- actual analysis instead of just lists of numbers.
-
has failed? Miserably.
-
Keep them! And keep talking about Leno -- its the most interesting story in TV right now.
-
It gives us a chance to discuss shows you don't, or will not cover, for whatever reason. Like Supernatural, which was great tonight. Plus, I get bigger laughs watching Leno's ratings go into the toilet than I ever would watching his shitty show.
-
Damn lack of an edit feature making me look stupid.
-
I used to grab a link off the IMDB news feed, but now I just wait for it to come up here.
Knowing the shows ratings will help prepare people for when they get canned; or cut short, or postponed. It also great to see shows you hate (LENO!!!!!!!!!!!), do poorly! -
I don't know whats worse, between that and Leno they are both pretty bad.
-
I can go to other sites if I want objectivity. Blast away at Leno everyday. Once he is gone, take on "america's next top model." I remember seeing commercials for that show during ENTERPRISE. I can't fathom its still on when so many superior shows have come and gone.
-
I want to see more - does Nick at Night beat Leno?
-

Keep the ratings. Also, what was so bad about SP Series7?
by iamnicksaicnsn
My support for them has not waned. And South Park was awesome. Not as good as last week's, but still good.
-
Like was mentioned above, it's a good way for shows to get talkbacked when you're not going to do it. And I also use it to remind myself what needed to be found online or OnDemand. But also keep up the Leno bashing because, you know, Fuck Leno.
-
Fuck you Gay Leno. Give Conan a chance! He's funny. It's the best version of the Tonight Show since the 1970's! Give Conan a chance!
-
suck cock by choice. Whether you love them or hate them, you watched. Highest ratings in five years.
-
and add in late night ratings. I want to see by how much Craig Ferguson is killing Jimmy Fallon.
-
Other sites may have more information but this format makes it easy to see how a show is trending throughout the season.
-
I look for them everyday here...
-
I look for them everyday here...

Letterman's going to have to be found in an illicit bondage slave relationship with Paul Schaffer before Conan ever overtakes him...and boy, did Leno EVER get fucked.
Serves that asshole network right for killing MY NAME IS EARL without even a series finale. Guess you fucks are finding out what "karma" is now, right?
BUDDHA'S GOT A POSSE. -
hes not funny at all dave is much funnier and so is craig but i cant
take that fucking conan -
every year
-
So, um, even on a "bad" night for it (Oct 12, no NFL lead-in) FAMILY GUY has triple the ratings of a "good" SOUTH PARK night. And THE CLEVELAND SHOW has at least 2 1/2 times the viewership of SOUTH PARK.
Jest thought I'd, y'know, toss dat one out dere. Jest fer jollies. -
So, that entire 80s with Carson sucked?
-
If people don't like them, then they can stop clicking the links. There are certainly enough people who like them, plus it gives us a place to talk about shows not given official talkbacks. It's one of the main reasons I come to the site every day, I hate that you would even consider taking the ratings down because of a few whiners.
-
who'da thunk that.
-
Please.
-
Sources say no.
-
Sources say, fucktards who can't read a TV Guide, are stunned. "Shows which are not on, might not be a ratings smash? I did not know that" said Lockesbrokenleg.
-
looks like they are staying. good, if you dont like the article don't read em.
-
Sorry for the caps, but some people here don't realize that the ratings stories give us the chance to discuss all the shows Herc doesn't devote individual TB's to.
Which means nearly all of them, not just Supernatural.
I do agree that the constant Leno bashing has to stop, though. You're not going to change anyone's opinion on Leno this way, Herc, it just makes you look bad.
Also it would be cool if aside from reporting and linking to the Hollywood Reporter or Variety or whatever you would write your own personal views on the reported matter. Make it personal, make it interesting, different, just do something, dammit. -
Oh, you bitter fuck. You're so used to a Whedon show being canceled after 2 years.
-
Let's put a "It's A Wonderful Life" spin on the absence of Rating's stories.
I would be forced to deal with an alternative site to go for ratings. There are probably better sites out there, but I prefer going to one. Therefore, you do make a difference in one individual's life. -
I likes 'em.
-
the whole point of Herc's headline is that Leno is so bad even cable shows are beating it. Its so out of the ordinary that it is news. Noting the reverse about FG and SP is just stating the obvious status quo since the invention of pay TV. In other words: So what?
-

Stop the ratings reports or at least change how it's reported...
by spectrebeeyatch
Makes it seem like it is some sort of competition. The ratings system is flawed horribly and using it as some sort of way to track what is "hip" or popular is frankly bull shit. Not like I watch the show or support it but Leno could have actually huge ratings it's just the system in place is fucking useless and we'd never know. So yes get rid of it or just give us the numbers but this who beat who bull shit is annoying because frankly we have no idea how many people are actually watching something. I heard that those world series numbers could be doubled by the fact of how many people watch the game at bars around the country.

If Letterman continues to beat Conan, Leno will return
by zombieheathledger
to The Tonight Show in two years. It´s all about the money. Conan does not fit at all with the 11:30 slot and Dave is clobbering him nightly.
-
Like many have said above it gives a chance to comment on different shows rather than just one show. Plus we can get a glimpse of what the US is watching as a whole from over the pond.
-
Schadenfreude on a network who deserves it due to their shitty choices is fun. Plus, the ratings have gone all "cats and dogs living in sin!" on us with this entry. Sorry to see Mythbusters eating it, but watching Leno faceplant onto that gigantic chin is worth the suffering.Oh, and I think it's "House of Payne", not "Pain".
-
And don't feel bad about pointing out Leno's failure. They're doing it everywhere. James Hibberd at the HR seems to be judging all ratings against it too. NBC are experimenting, and we need to keep an eye on the thermometer to see how hot it is inside the test tube.
-
Right Herc? Another nickel in the ol' manpurse?
-
It's my favorite feature on AICN right now. It's hard finding this much information gathered in one place elsewhere on the Web, especially ratings for cable shows.
-
I really like that one.
-
but making it about ratings is just a poor way to do it. The networks already have enough guys that just boil shows down to numbers. Do we, as simple fans, want to give the impression that we also value such numbers? It adds power to the ratings system, and many times in the past, the ratings system and its analysts are directly responsible for killing great shows. As said earlier, we don't get weekend box office articles every Monday. We simply talk about the films. When a new Stephen King book comes out, the fans don't watch its first week sales to compare it to the previous book. They just talk about what they liked and didn't like about it. Do we want to be fans or do we want to ratings analysts? Which one sends the right message?
-
...provides a hook for reasonably entertaining talkbacks.
-
It amazes me people watch the formulaic Ghost Hunters, yet half of them leave for the energetic Destination Truth. Dollhouse and Heroes are probably going to join Destination Truth soon. I guess that leaves Sons and 13 episode seasons. Good thing I like sports.
-
It's different, and it's actuallly a little interesting. Kind of a snapshot sort of thing. But it doesn't need to continue ad infinitum.
-
which allow riffing on other shows is fine, but the Leno bashing is very tiresome, all around. At some point, adult supervision will return to NBC and his show will join the ranks of Joan Rivers' and Chevy Chase's.
-
if you unlock the talkbacks for new DVD releases.
-
maybe make it a weekly?

Ratings Talkbacks but no Venture Bros Talkbacks
by shut the fuck up donny
Yeah, I'm not going to stop bitching about this travesty.
-
A) Maybe the ratings this week will wake up Bravo to the fact that you have to stop interrupting Top Chef for no reason whatsoever. Mid-season and all of a sudden a fucking reunion show? A few weeks back a repeat for no reason at all? Don't interrupt your season unless you have to. B) The fact there's no Venture Bros. talkback on this site is criminal.
-
This site needs some objectivity...nothing like numbers. If numbers didn't exist on this site, you'd think Joss Whedon has 20 Emmys and his own fucking network.
-
If nothing else, it gives us a place to talkback about shows like HEROES that aren't given specific talkbacks.
-
It is better to have the ratings to allow us to have a talk back for everything. It is better than the past when we didn't have a talkback for shows like Dexter and others. The Leno bashing will be over in a few months.
-

Keep the ratings, and keep up reporting The Jay Leno Error
by pennsydeux
er, Era.
-
Herc, don't you DARE stop tracking his decline.
-
i enjoy hearing more about leno's epic fail
-
The ratings are cool I just wish Herc used them objectively in stead of constantly trying to spin them about shows he loves/hates. Dollhouse/Leno is a good example.
-
Although, it is looking quite cluttered up there. May be time to drop the previous weeks' numbers, or just list those as an average, or only list the previous 3 weeks. Maybe get creative with colours for the text - one colour for the 5 networks, another for the cable shows; or different colours for different times that way, at a glance, one can see which shows went head-to-head. Maybe also think of making two paragraphs - one for network, one for cable. Something to make the list more aesthetically pleasing.
-
Though I too miss the AICN version. What happened? Last season, this place was like Venture HQ.
-
I could care less if some show dips by .01 ratings share since last week. What I do like is the chance to discuss a show that you refuse to post talkbacks for (ie, anything not Whedon or reality TV)
-
God yes, Venture talkback please.
-
I can't believe they're the penultimate show on the list.
-
In Europe the CSI: Miami is legendary. Of the list above, they only watch South Park, The Ultimate Fighter and America’s Next Top Model. Lucky US, producing crap only watched by US. FUSBUS.

+ MYTHBUSTERS, of course. That's a favorite overseas.
by limpdicksherlock
-
Fuck a few naysayers. No one forces them to click the topic link. With the ratings column I always have something to look foward to at AICN, even on a slow news day.
-
And would love to see the full ratings, not just the prime demos. My parents aren't even in those demos anymore, but Yukky McGoo that makes my tacos at Taco Bell is. Trust me, they have much more purchasing power than the kids hanging out in dormrooms that only see $20 cash per month.
-
that the youth blow cash, whereas the older crowd doesn't. Youth have little to no responsibilities, less likely to have families, mortgages, etc. Their cash is expendable. They see movies at least once a week. They eat out all the time. They compulsive buy much more than the older crowd.
Glad to see your career in television pointed this out to you. -
Since he's the one who really wrote that article, basically. ;)

Herc made a good defense of his Leno coverage a week or so ago, he pointed out that what NBC did with Leno's show was unprecedented and the biggest story about television of the year. IMO, that makes it as viable as anything else he normally posts. Plus, when Leno says that his 10pm timeslot isn't taking away jobs, that's majorly newsworthy here because it's the OPPOSITE of true. Leno is taking away 5 different shows this season alone, some of them could have been good. Hell, look at Chuck - a geek fav - a series that isn't airing at the beginning of the season in part because there's no room on the sched for the show.
-
it was a special that saw that asshole Marcel back again, and this time he almost got his ass kicked by Fabio
-
but only if you start including fox news in them. That would put you in quite the conundrum. Either admit Fox is legitimate news and doesn't count in these rating rundowns, or continue to say its all fake, and have to show how high the ratings are compared to everyone else.
-
A-Roid and Pettitte.
-
Total viewers is a more interesting number to me. All nielson numbers are garbage. That is what my career taught me.
-
Way to regurgitate instead of critical thinking
-

keep the ratings so that people can get aneurysms
by takingscorpioscalls
when a year from now, leno will still be on. ^_^
-
dont you love it too?
-
Really? South Park episodes now can just be summed up in 1 sentence. Last week was the Japanese hunt whales and dolphins, this week it was Matt and Trey and everyone else think Harley riders are Fags, and that word's meaning is stupid. Does anyone else not rememeber the episode where one of them is beating a dead horse, well thats what they've become this season.
-
The ratings seem to drop for it every week, yet nerds continue to watch. It's a terrible show.
-
(as they did last night), Herc takes longer to post his column.
-
Just because you think the Nielsons are antiquitated - I happen to agree with you - it is still the the end all, be all for advertisers. Most ratings sites will tell you the same. Our opinion doesn't match up with the money. Total viewers & DVR are meaningless in ad money; the only thing they count for is PR bragging rights.
-
This is a dumb question but did you ever post to RSPW?
-
Can't remember the last new ep I saw
-
He was already calling it in by the early 80's. With Joan Rivers, or Leno, or any of the other guest hosts. And, when he actually was hosting, it was like 3 nights a week. Plus, he was way past his prime by then, kind of like Dave is now.
-

lockesbrokenleg, Mythbusters still has its moments
by shut the fuck up donny
Admittedly I pretty much don't watch it anymore either, but the episode completely devoted to duct tape was a hoot--So I think it's got some life left to it.
And I'll bet you good money if and when Kari Byron gets her pre-pregnant figure back on the show, ratings will go up again. -
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
-
Leno was too stupid to retire with dignity and therefore i enjoy watching him fail
-
I love that show although Josh hasn't been making fun of the locals this season as he did previously. The mid season finale kicked ass and if what we are seeing on that show is true, they just captured DNA from an unknown primate in Bhutan. Whether or not it is the Yeti, it does not matter. That's quite an accomplishment for a cable series.
-
I thought that parody on South Park was in bad taste. If South Park wanted to diss a paranormal show they should've picked on Paranormal State or all the other Ghost Hunters wanna-be rip-off shows out there.
-
Yeah, not knowing how to retire with dignity is something both painful and amusing to watch. Ego is an ugly thing.

You retards, it wasn't Leno that did this. It was Jeff Zucker wh
by gqtaste
you should blame, not Leno. Zucker didn't want Jay leaving for abc or fox so they bullied him into this experiment that isn't going well. But to blame it on leno is very short sided and uninformed.
-
He's certainly coping her every move these days.

This is coming from someone who was an ardent follower 2004-2008.
Collargate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlM-Uy8ODYQ&feature=related
-
but wow, is it boring every week when the creepiest thing they get is cold air.
-
Does Zucker also write the jokes for Leno's stink awful show? And does he possess Leno during the show to make him deliver the jokes poorly and ask stupid questions of his guests? If so, then you've got a point.
-
through their 5 years on tv so far have been grainy shadowy figures in dark surroundings on cameras from the 1980s. Untill they get something with the most high tech camera they can find (it's not like they lack money to get one) they should drop that bullshit "our equipment is from our own money" since that show is now their salary.
-
the most watched and liked Talk Show Host on TV? First of all, he's doing enough ratings for NBC to make $300 million a year. Second of all, if they DO fire him, he'll go on ABC, Fox, or even CBS and destroy Conan every night. It's win-win for Leno to stay on as long as possible. His numbers for 15 years justified them keeping him at 11:30pm. Then they decided they better give Conan the Tonight Show so he didn't leave the network and forced Leno into a position where they thought he'd leave. Well, Leno called their bluff and they deserve what they're getting for trying to force him out after 15 years of the Number One Talk Show by far (it wasn't even close...). Letterman's the one that has to worry because I'm sure if in one or two years time, Leno is available, CBS will dump Letterman for him. If not, Leno goes to ABC, pushes back Kimmel, and destroys both Letterman AND Conan. That would be sweet...
-
"Whether you love em or hate em" Highest ratings in five years right? It's the World Series. Shut the fuck up. This may come as a shock to you but you're the team everyone loves to hate. You Suck Cock.
