NUMB3RS’ Days Are Numbered!!

Published at:  Nov 05, 2009 1:10:51 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

CBS’ has cut “Numb3rs’” sixth-season order from 22 to 16, suggesting the procedural may be on its last legs.

The Rob Morrow vehicle launched 19% lower in September than it did at the start of its fifth season, and has slipped further since. It remains the weakest of CBS’ Friday night dramas in the 18-49 demo (older ratings in parentheses):

2.0 (2.1) (2.0) (2.2) (1.7) (2.3) Ghost Whisperer
1.9 (2.1) (1.9) (2.0) (1.9) (2.1) Medium
1.7 (1.8) (1.8) (1.6) (1.6) (1.8) Numb3rs

“Numb3rs” is CBS’ third-lowest-rated series, after Saturday’s “48 Hours Mystery” and Sunday’s new (and likely doomed) medical drama “Three Rivers.”

CBS could replace “Numb3rs” with the recently renewed Toronto-set cop drama “Flashpoint.” Because the “Flashpoint” is produced by and for Canada’s CTV network, it’s likely a lot cheaper for CBS to license than “Numb3rs.”

Too bad - the show was interesting.

    by juansanchez

It has gotten stale, but I like the cast. They should have added Lou Diamond Phillips.

    The show was good

    by xiphos_2

but the last couple of seasons it had begun slipping, maybe now is the time to wrap it up. Who could have known that Dr. Joel flieshman could play a credible hard ass?

    It's a shame

    by bytor

I'm a big fan of the idea, and of a show that makes math cool, but it's gotten quite stale.

Navi Rawat needs to be on TV somewhere, though. Yum.

    Jew Math

    by waspo

At least that is what my Racist friend calls it. Looks like Jew Math is on it's last legs. I mean it's an expensive as hell Friday Night show, those two things don't go well together. I mean they just feed Jennifer Love Huge-Tit Hostess and Twinkies and that keeps the production budget on The BS Whisper down, and Well Done, I mean Medium they just edit the same five shows over and over again and save money that way.

    It's a really well-made show...

    by vlad the inhaler

... that's probably too expensive to produce for ratings like this. The action scenes in particular are pretty impressive in their staging, cinematography, and editing... for a TV show, at least. It's been a staple in our house on Friday nights, and I'll be sad to see it go. At least it never jumped the shark.

    The show WAS good

    by frozen01

Back when it was a low-action, cerebral math mystery/thriller, like a lovable geek's House. Then suddenly they decided that it was too boring, and they added all sorts of explosions and chase scenes and such. It went downhill from there... things no longer made sense, since it was just a set-up for another explosion or hostage situation, and they were sacrificing the details that made the show great. They dumbed it down, made it insulting to the intellect. We used to watch Numbers religiously, but we haven't watched it in a while for these reasons.

Medium and Amazing Race are the only CBS shows I watch

    by cromulent

And I fast forward through a lot of junk on Amazing Race to get to the "good stuff". Medium's still pretty good and decent season so far.

    frozen01: you are right

    by mgthedj

The past 2 years they have had a hard time getting the math into the plot. The writers have the math geeks do a huge logrithmic computation that takes 6 hours to find a suspect , when a little legwork by the agents would find the person in 3 hours. Credit "White Collar" for this. Once again a cable show takes out a Broadcast Network show.-----later-----m

Isn't Janine Turner doing laxative commercials now?

    by azultool

I saw her in some pharmaceutical spot. The sad thing was, I don't think it was even a "celebrity endorsement". She was just some chick in a commercial. Too bad. When she was on Northern Exposure, she was soooooo fucking fine. She was funny too. She and Morrow had good chemistry.

Turner was fine looking on FNL and did a good job with what could have been a throw away character.

    Send him back to Cicely

    by tangcameo

To put right what once went wrong: Maggie dropping the tomboy look and becoming mayor, Ed ignoring him film work to become a shaman then (for no fricking reason) a p.i., Chris giving up on all the other ladies to be with (WTF?) Maggie, The Capras who replaced Joel and even stole his rabbi, the guy who replaced Dave, the fire that destroyed Maurice's cabin, the music MY GOD THE MUSIC that we heard and loved in the show but can't hear on the DVDs, and on and on and on...

    by tangcameo

Same short hair, almost the same face, but with freckles, looked goooood in a sweater. Not only did she turn my head, she turned every guys head and more than a few of the women's too.

I'm still waiting for the Crazy Glue Fingerprint Cop Show

    by tangcameo

We have so many niche market cop shows now (Lie To Me, Numbers, The Mentalist, even Medium in a way) I'm waiting for someone to rip off my idea. Cranky fingerprint expert who does that latent print thing with crazy glue, a light bulb, and a fume hood. Probably played by a Brit using a US accent (like Stephen Fry or Craig Charles or Lenny Henry). And like most Brit actors on US television, speaking in US accents, he's dealing with some internal issues, not drug related but instead glue-sniffing related. I'm expecting a call from Fox very soon.

Dudes, its FRIDAY night that's the problem!!

    by drath

Everything but Sci-Fi shows on cable die there, stop sentencing shows to death on that night! Not that I care about Numbers, it's not really my show, but I'm in sympathy with its fans.

Janine Turner is on that pill that makes your eyes teary

    by rkdn

She has that problem with chronic dry eye and has to take (and endorse) whatever the hell that pill is that makes you capable of crying.
Also, Morrow was horrible in 21 - he needs to stay far far away from movies.

    Math guy ruins this show

    by nippleeffect

it's not that he links everything to math
It's that he knows everything about everything
It doesn't matter the discipline or field of study
Fields that people devote decades of their lives to learning.
Math guy knows more than the experts in their respective fields
And not just occasionally, every fucking time
