I liked when Rock hosted, I liked when Letterman hosted, but Alec Baldwin's "is it real or is it fake" smugness never fails to crack up.

First of all, where is the Ricky Gervais hosting

    by indygold

the Golden Globes talkback? Second, Steve Martin doesn't need a co-host. This is totally like on the office when Jim gets the promotion to co-manager and Michael gets the demotion from manager to co-manager. But then again, maybe Martin wanted it. 3rd, you know it's a politically safe year for liberals, (no Bush in office, no controversial pending military invasions) when they let a outspoken (on political issues) liberal host the Oscars. They wouldn't have had the balls to let Baldwin host 6 years ago.

neither a republican or a democrat. I just find it funny that they censor and frown upon political opinions at the Oscars, yet they hire a vocal political observer to host. Feel free to call me any name in the book, I'd rather strike a chord than be ignored.

    by chakraborty

Of all time. Yes, his movies suck now. But when hosting the Oscars, he is brilliant. It's a glimpse of his stand-up chops, which are still quite strong to this day. He should even give stand-up another go...

  • Why not? They constantly have presenters for that reason. "To present the next award, from the upcoming [insert title for piece of crap March release so-called comedy], here is..."They're always looking for ways to save time during the telecast, yet it has yet to occur to the producers to have presenters already at the podium instead of having them be announced then walk the length of the stage. Also, another time-saver would be to cut the scripted banter between presenters. On rare occasions it can be funny; more often than not, it's just painful to watch. What makes it worse is some dude wins and gets his one moment of public recognition and is given only 45 seconds to make the most of it. Yet moments earlier, Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz get 3 minutes to stumble over lame banter read off a teleprompter so they can show their "chemistry" in promotion of their shitty Vegas movie.I say this in every Oscar thread - the decision to go to 10 Best Picture nominations was done so massively popular mediocre films will be recognized on Oscar night; so that more people will be invested in the show, rooting for "their movie". As a result I assure you, New Moon will be nominated for Best Picture. I hope I am wrong, but we all know I am right.

called the national film awards. where the public get to decided all the noms. and who wins. maybe the academy should do that.

You're forgetting that, in the States, a movie about guinea pig super spies was number one for a couple of weeks. It went on to gross $118M. And "A Serious Man" is in limited release. So, I don't have much faith in the American movie-going public. We have that type of awards show, and it's on MTV.
