Figures in grey represent repeats.

* Monday brought the best-rated Game 5 of the World Series since 2003.

* “Dancing With The Stars” hit a season low.

* “Accidentally on Purpose” dipped a bit but still held enough of “HIMYM’s” audience to score a Tuesday order for five more first-season episodes.

* Despite slight improvements at “Heroes” and newly cancelled “Trauma,” “Leno” remained at its all-time nadir. Observe the huge drop-off between "Trauma's" 2.1 and "Leno's" 1.2. Jay needs to think about scaling back on those “Ghosting” segments.

0.4 (0.3) (0.3) (0.3) (0.5) (----) Bored To Death

* A regular old football game still outdrew the World Series on Sunday.

* "Cold Case" and "Three Rivers" both hit season lows despite a strong lead-in from "The Amazing Race."

* “Dexter” hit another series high and remains Showtime’s highest-rated show ever. It’ll be interesting to see if “Weeds” leapfrogs it again next summer.

* “Mad Men” saw an uptick with its penultimate season-three episode.

* Viewers don’t seem to like “Girls Next Door” as much since the most attractive one, Kendra Wilkinson, left for her own show.

    Heroes and ... Ghosting??

    by incomplete gamer

It definitely looks like Heroes has bottomed out and is starting to creep back up. That's not a bad thing, in my opinion, as this season hasn't completely sucked. It's not the best thing on TV or anything, but it's intriguing enough to keep me entertained. Also, can somebody explain what Leno's "ghosting segments" are? Is that a joke about the driving portions of the show (where they are trying to beat ghost times)?

Favre's return to Green Bay. Better belive that audience was huge.Three Rivers is lowest rated Sunday night show on Big 4. Talk about wasting millions and millions of dollars. CBS culled all of their established shows by one to two actors each, rather than passing on a generic hospital show that would be DOA. What was les smoking to make that move?-----later----m

Heroes is rising to fifth place

    by rob0729

Suck it! Fox... Nope they won the night. Eat Heroes dust ABC... Nope, Dancing with the Stars beat them too. CBS, you're Heroes' bitch now.... Nah, they didn't beat HIMYM or Accidentally on Purpose either. Heores stomped ESPN's ass... Nope, Football beat them too. Hey, at least they beat The CW with the Gossip Birl.
Seriously, Heroes is in fifth place out of four major networks. Who cares if they are stopping the bloodletting. They are still getting killed in the ratings and on death watch. Face it. Heroes is deader than Nathan's character will be in a few weeks. Yes, they are finally killing him for good after fake killing him every season.

    by raromo

...is breaking all kinds of ratings records, week after week, on Showtime. But Showtime really needs to get another boffo hour long drama. The Tudors is great, but next season is its final season. The half hour comedies are fine, but we really judge a station by its hour long dramas.

    by incomplete gamer

Hey blhotz, what does Charlie Chaplin and Mad Men have in common? Where is the connection? Chaplin's films were silent and full of physical acting, whereas Mad Men is about conversations and telling a full story. I'm missing the connection. Also, Charlie Chaplin films are fun to watch, they hold up extremely well. You confuse me.

Personally, I hope they resolve the storyline like the book resolves the Ice Truck Killer saga, Deb finding out about Dexter's dark passenger and she hides the secret and even encourages him to use his dark passenger to extract revenge for the torture of her boyfriend Kyle. I always thought that they should have kept that aspect of the books in because at times it makes Deb too dumb to be so clueless. I am glad that they dropped the Cody and Astor becoming killers in training though. I liked how they did it in the books, but I don't think it would play well in the series. I also wished they portrayed Dexter's dark passenger like the book than the series.

    Dexter/Deb

    by v'shael

I think that Deb may find out Dexter is her half-brother, and that'll be a bit of a shock, but then she'll find out he's killed (maybe she'll find out just the once, like when he kills Trinity) and she'll keep that secret because he's family, and because she thinks its justified. I don't think they'll go and make Deb aware of his serial killing nature. I just can't imagine that working in the show.

Actually, Deb's known all along Dexter is her half-brother. But I agree with you, it is going to be interesting to see what happens, and how much she finds out about Dexter's true nature. My guess is at the least she'll discover the Ice Truck Killer was Dexter's brother. Which will set all kinds of wheels in motion.

  • It's the fucking nightly NEWS, not a sitcom! It's not meant to have Q-ratings and key demos, it's meant to be the dissemination of the day's vital information in an honorable, mature manner to justify all the shit that the station airs the rest of the time. When the news is played for ratings and sales and entertainment, everyone suffers and Leno gets a 10pm timeslot. I saw a commercial for Leno tonight referring to the "return of the Ghosting Segment" and had some jackoff following a guy at an inches' distance. Is that what Leno thinks passes for comedy? That's what elementary school children do on the playground during recess, it's juvenile and one-note. Then again, having witnessed other Leno segments throughout the years, that seems to be the level he's going for. "Headlines: 3 kittens, good at yard work, must take" - really, that's FUNNY to one of the writers? It's a minor mistake in a very minor classified ad. It's cheap and lazy and no wonder the show is tanking. That and the fact that Leno and his guest look so uncomfortable sitting in those chairs. Not everybody can make it work the way Dick Cavett or Tom Snyder did, they were able to use the awkward camera and chairs to their advantage, Leno doesn't know shit about that, he's just a softball interview guy. And man did his comment about there being plenty of work piss me off - there's a SECOND helping of douchery in that interview after that whole "sure I'd take Conan's slot back".

In the books, Deb knows that Dexter is a serial killer and adds the dimension that she realizes that he fights every day not to kill her for knowing. It could work.
I am being hypocritical a bit since I don't want them to adopt the storyline of Astor and especially Cody being serial killers in training. Part of that is because they are younger in the show than the books. The other part is the series has Dexter have more personal relationships with sociopaths than the book (Miguel, Lilly) who weren't discovered sociopaths until after he was in a relationship with them and having him being stepfather to two more would be too many coincidences to be real.
Personally, I think Deb finding out could enhance the show if done correctly. She would be conflicted between her duty as a cop and her loyalty to her brother and devotion to her father who trained Dexter to kill for good.

    Dexter's Dad

    by pastepotpete

I just finished the first season DVD's. In flash backs to Dexter needing a blood donor as a child, they implied that Harry tracked down his bioligical father. Dexter wrote him a thank you card that he later found in the dead man's belongings as an adult. They also went on to imply that Harry was screwing Dexter's bioligical mom on the side. Being Dexter's real dad doesn't fit the time frame.

(Even though he did have sex with Dex's real mother.) Didn't they establish in season one that his biological father is the man who died a few towns over? (Or am I misremembering?)

Harry probably isn't Dexter's father. He wasn't in the book, but that is the only way he could be Deb's half-brother. To be a half-brother, you need to share a common father or mother. Otherwise, you are just adopted.

Leno's not great entertainment, assuredly, but Herc seems to relish blasting away at him ever day, enjoying the low ratings the show continues to put up. I don't ever recall Herc posting the ratings with such glee prior to Leno's 10:00 experiment. He steal your girlfriend or run over your puppy with one of his car collection or something?
