Want to see THE WILD BUNCH in LA with the stars? You damn well better, if you love film, this is one helluva event!
Hey folks, Harry here - ack! You know - living in Austin is pretty great. We have more than our fair share of holy shit cool screenings. I'm in on most of them at some level planning, making it happen - but every now and again there's a screening that just kicks my ass and makes me feel like a kid. This is one of those screenings. I was having a nice geek lunch with Jason Reitman, Quint, Kraken, Father Geek and Peter from Slash Film at the Salt Lick here in town - when Jason said something completely counter and actually offensive. He said he'd just seen THE WILD BUNCH for the first time... and he didn't like it. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? It is THE WILD BUNCH. It's as great a film as you're ever likely to see in your entire existence and how does a smart quality filmmaker dismiss it? I can't conceive of that. And like many of you, I just moved past the statement. Then today I get a press release for this WILD BUNCH screening with the remaining members of the cast in attendance along with all the other folks and frankly. That is where to be. This is an AWESOME screening. And THE MILLION DOLLAR THEATER is a cool place. If you're in L.A. - do not hesitate for a second picking up your tickets. This is one helluva opportunity for classic cinema perfection!

Thanks for the tip, Harry...and for keeping us LA folks informed. Sometimes we're too busy attempting to make a left hand turn in a busy intersection to pay attention to these things. Oh, and for those of you new to the city, give yourself at least an hour and a half to get just about anywhere.
-
i wish i was there.sam peckinpah owns everything.
-
Damn I would love to be able to go to this screening! For the first time I can remember, I'm jealous of people living in LA.
-
...and what an opportunity to rectify that. Nice.
-
I've also never seen "The Blade Runner." Too bad I missed that screening. But "Blade Runner" sure is a good movie.
-
Incredible film. Cool event. Would love to go. Probably wont get the time/chance to get a ticket though.
-
...I'd love to see this. Just watched this again last summer. Hung a 15 foot screen outside and moved my projector out to watch it under the stars. At the time I thought that was the only way to watch it. But I didn't have Ernest Borgnine and LQ jones there.
-
HOLY SHIT!
-
Because that is just one of the goddamn funniest things to ever play on television. Man, i wish I still lived in LA because I would be all over this like ants on a scorpion.
-
..with all due respect to Ernest,Tovah is one hot GILF..
-
Bo "the Pharoe" Hopkins has a seedy looking cock..
-
i meant Pharoh (i think thats the way it was spelled in "American Graffiti")
-
Not to hijack a great movies talkback, but what about the Christmas Carol screening, no list was ever put up with the winners. Did it get canceled? It was billed as a family screening and I had wanted to take my daughter, but can't make plans now without knowing if we got in =(
-
that Jason Reitman doesn't like THE WILD BUNCH. Did he happen to say why? No fuckin' hamburger phones or Moldy Peaches tunes? But I wasn't surprised cuz the friggin' middlebrow mentality that helped produce JUNO is bound to find TWB disagreeable... kind of confusing when the good guys are outlaws.
I saw Borgnine at a screening of MARTY a few months back and he's in great shape, he's got more energy than most men a third his age. And since I practice the Borgnine Method for Longevity almost daily, I'm probably going to outlast the pyramids! :D -
Time to move to L.A. I guess...
-
I guess people are allowed to like what they like and not like what they don't like. Years ago I was startled to read that Ingmar Bergman hated CITIZEN KANE, thought it was melodramatic over-stylized crap with bad make-up. So whatever - but still, not liking THE WILD BUNCH? That's like not liking blowjobs IMO. I'm really curious about JR's reasons, kinda wish Harry had pressed him on that although that conversation might have ended in bloodshed.
-
Reitman should commit himself to a monastery in shame for his disgraceful ignorance of film awesomeness.
-
Read every book, watched every movie. live in Florida as far away as possible. SHIT!!!!
-
best line ever!!!!!!
-
Give ya 2 points when I sell my flick GAINESVILLE RIPPER.
I'm thinking about getting a tattoo of 'THE WALK' on my arm.
I'm fucking up by geeking out online but it's fucking BLOODY SAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
... and now I will never see a J. Reitman movie.

Only in Peckinpah movies do you see a guns actual kick-back
by joshtownsend
All fireams kick and Sam was the only director who always made sure the blowback looked real in film.
Like the scene in the GETAWAY when Steve M. was shooting up the cop car. -
And if you can't do that your like some kind of animal."

You know, events like this happen ALL THE TIME in this town. It's the reason I live here. They aren't all up to this standard, but if you're interested in regular theatrical access to advance screenings, revivals, indies, foreign films, cult classics, etc. with cast and crew in attendance and willing to talk to fans, this is the best place in the world to be. So, make your snide remarks if you will, but I think most of the true movie fans would eat the LA cost-of-living willingly for these opportunities.

The only one that even comes close is The Searchers.. I have to say between the two I have seen
The Wild Bunch more times probably 25 but The Searchers is such a great film and has The Duke. Its a tough call to say which is best.. Saying that though
I fuckin love "The Wild Bunch" as I see most of my brethren do. -

... THIS TOWN NEEDS TO STOP HAVING EVENTS AT 7:00 OR EARLIER!! So many times, there's something like this I would LOVE to go to, and it's too early for me to get off work and make it. It's like they only want kids in school to see it or something.Sorry everyone, just needed to bitch for a second.
-
I'm watching this movie tomorrow night. I'll imagine Ernest Borgnine is sitting next to me (I'll eat a lot of aged cheese and fart enough to make the atmosphere reek of Borgnine!).

Get him on the phone, email whatever. These Talkbackers already hate/envy/resent him for JUNO & you've just added fuel to the fire.If you weren't willing to argue the film with him at the time, why throw the fact out there in the first place? Until we know WHY he didn't like it, it's just a meaningless bit of information.I love THE WILD BUNCH as much as anybody in here, but I can think of several reasons why somebody WOULDN'T. My own son didn't enjoy it when I played it for him and he was 18 at the time. He just didn't like the characters. He didn't identify with them. They rubbed him the wrong way. I could talk all night about Peckinpah's filmmaking techniques and he got all that. But he didn't ENJOY the film.I have a similar experience with RAGING BULL. I love Scorsese movies, and I understand why this is probably his and De Niro's greatest achievement. But I don't ENJOY watching it. Not like I enjoy TAXI DRIVER or GOODFELLAS. It just makes me uncomfortable.I'll use Reitman's associates as an example. We would all probably assume that Diablo Cody is a Peckinpah fan. And if she's not, we can imagine her digging THE WILD BUNCH on first viewing, right? But how about Ellen Page? I don't know anything about her really.I could be completely wrong. But she doesn't strike me as the Peckinpah type.I'm really interested in WHY Reitman didn't like the movie.
-
That would make it an "official" Hollywood event, if The Script Doctor turns up.
-
...that produced so many great westerns? Besides the Wild Bunch, you had Once upon an time in the West, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and True Grit. And Strother Martin was in 3 of them!
-
ewww, they'll have that old people smell
-
But right after,..I saw this bought my VIP Pass and a ticket to L.A stayin at The Sporstmen Lodge and will be going all by myself...Plus it gives me an excuse to catch up with me L.A Brothas!...
