The final episode of Bob Burns' Hollywood Halloween has hit! THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD!

Published at:  Oct 28, 2009 8:49:14 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The final episode of that great series documenting the talented king of geeks Mr. Bob Burns and the amazing Halloween shows he put on back in the '60s and '70s.

This last episode is the longest of the bunch and focuses on the very last show Bob did, which also happens to be the biggest show he ever did... recreating the Howard Hawks THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD down to the smallest detail.

For movie geeks this is the most inspiring piece of the series and I guarantee you'll be pumped up and wanting to put on your own show... but I doubt you'll have the full run of KNB like Bob did for this last show!

In this episode you will see Guillermo Del Toro, Frank Darabont and Greg Nicotero (back when he had his power hair) talk about Bob and the shows as well as a nail by nail account on the building of The Thing From Another World. Enjoy!

First click here, then click on the "Video" tab to find the 5th and final segment!

    Okay, but guys?...

    by tommygavinsego

Seriously? That stuff that's leaked, all over the net? The thing that geeks the world over are now poring over and discussing? Whatsitcalled? Something by some guy who made that one with the killer robot and the other one with the big sinking ship? The thing geeks have been anticipating for over a decade? No? Still nothing? No headline? Okay. As you were.

i like this movie over The Thing

    by takingscorpioscalls

not that i don't like the 82 one which i do it's just personal taste. It may help that i saw the 51 one first years ago and it made an impression whereas i viewed the 82 one for the first time 2 years ago. The paranoia element in 82 never really interested me and it relied too much on gore to scare, not that i'm against gore since it is fun, it simply doesn't scare me in horror.

I liked 51's atmosphere, unbearable tension, relying on the unseen than seen for its power, even with the giant carrot crashing through doors, its b&w noirish photography over 82's grimey look, it adds up to a more likable atmosphere for me. Lesser so the 82 was a sausage fest whereas the 51 had some pointy eye candy

Bob Burns shows more professional than most recent Movies

    by conspiracy

Look at the dedication, talent and level of professionalism at work here...and given to the people free of charge, just for the fun of it. THESE are the kinds of people that seem to be missing in today's Hollywood scene, people who really LOVE their craft and are not JUST looking for a payday. It is also a fucking sad commentary on our times that the fucking County of Los Angeles in large part put a stop to this and many other large scale Yard Haunts in S.Cal with the endless red tape and fee's.I Salute this man and his friends...and thank you Quint for turning us on to this fucking Jem.

Yeah...you could never get away with this shit today.

    by jobacca

The city would kill you with permits and fees, the neighbors would probably sue for pain and suffering, and some idiot would probably bring a gun and start shooting up the crowd. They only hinted at it in the doc,but I can only imagine the pain and headaches that went into creating the THING show in this day and age. This is why we cant have nice things anymore,people....

Again, thanks for alerting us to this, Quint. This was a thoroughly entertaining series, and it just reminds me how much I love the old-school monster makers and F/X guys.

Thanks to Quint and, of course, to Bob Burns

    by r_number6

Hearty thank you's to Quint for pointing us to these fantastic docs, wouldn't have found them otherwise. And to Bob Burns and everyone who participated in all of these shows. Sadly I never got to see one, but seeing the love and dedication that they all put into these productions is truly inspirational. It really says something about what kind of person Bob Burns is that so many paople were quick to say "Whatever you need, I'm there!" There aren't nearly enough people like this in the world.

One thing I hadn't realized until I saw these videos was how small Bob's house was. When I read the Starlog 18 article I assumed that to put on productions of the scale they did, plus the fact that they live in the Hollywood area, their house was huge. That really makes it even more impressive that they were able to do shows like that at such a modest location. Wish I had a crazy geek neighbor like you, Bob! I wish there was a chance of them doing more shows, but with today's codes and restrictions (plus the fact that Bob & Kathy Burns may just be getting too old to keep doing it) it's not likely. I would be interested to know what they would do if they could do another one. There are certainly plenty more great films to choose from.

    by vic_arpeggio

I got to see THE THING show and it was absolutely amazing. The doc doesn't even approach how cool it was. Would LOVE to see one more of these.
