The "Donner Party of 4" quote...because that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw this...but I couldn't remember where I heard it. It's not Seinfeld, is it?

I am cracking up right now that someone has recognized that line, never in a million years would I have thought someone would recognize that reference, anyway it's a quote from the Playstation game "Gex 3" and Gex would say it during the Christmas themed level

    I'm Breaking My Rule

    by lovecraftian

I haven't psted a thing since the Bale flap. But, bottom line, I'm more than willing to eat shit and call it Lou Malnati's for a friend. The guy behind this is TJ Martin. And, since I'm out in the open about this, I don't think I can be called a plant to say this was a labor of love. In 2005, I answered a Digital Webbing ad to do the graphic novel adaptation of the story. Things didn't work out due to budgeting issues. What I can say though is TJ has busted his ass on this for more years than I'm sure he'd like to admit. And I'm thrilled it's finally come to fruition for him. Folks, as a friend of TJ's, and someone who read the script almost five years ago now, I can tell you, this one is special. He knew what he was doing, where he was going with it, and why he wanted to do it. This one will be worth your time.

an alferd packer movie would be much better

    by toe jam

the donner party saga, from everything i've read, is pretty boring -- except for the cannibalism, of course. an alferd packer movie would be much more exciting, since packer was the only survivor, and no one's really sure what actually happened. you could postulate what happened, a la "the perfect storm." i've been waiting for a decent historical cannibalism flick for a while, as "ravenous" was solid but far from great.

In that case best of luck to him. Nice-looking camerawork but perhaps its a bit much using both caption cards and a voiceover in the opening 3 minutes. Use one or the other i'd say. Will definitely give it a look though.

I'd rather not get the history treatment in the form of text. It would be more interesting to just let it play out I think. Just cut out the text garbage and you would have a much more compelling introduction.

Ric Burns made the definitive Donner film

    by hyphenatedwords

Parts of Ric Burns's documentary on the Donner Party were inaccurate, but for context, magnitude, and an ever-increasing sense of dread and hopelessness in the face of hope, he paints a chilling, memorable picture.

This looks like a piece of Hallmark crap so far... I'll check it out because of my fascination with the subject, but I'm expecting to be jarred and insulted.

Crispin Glover? Donner Party movie? One ticket, please!

    by harrycalder

Had NO IDEA something like this was in the works, so I'm very pleased to hear this. Crispin adds that peculiar tang of crazyfucker to everything he does, even "Charlie's Angels." Ever since "The River's Edge," I've been a fan. Anyone seen his "Wizard of Gore" remake yet? Haven't yet myself and I'm kind of worried it sucks...

    by 3 bag enema

I think he should be a far more utilized actor than he is. He should have been Willy Wonka. He should have been the Joker. That said, however, this looks like a steaming chunk of straight-to-DVD poo.

    by liljuniorbrown

I've seen all of his Letterman stuff, his "music" and other shit but what really puts it over the top is those God awful movies he directed put the shit icing on the crazy cake. It had kids with down syndrome fucking each other and all kinds of other just weird shit man. With Glover it isn't an act.
