Bruckheimer & J. Michael Straczynski Coming Together For SHATTERED UNION!!

Published at:  Oct 27, 2009 1:56:19 PM CDT

Merrick here...

Jerry Bruckheimer and J. Michael Straczynski (BABYLON 5, CHANGELING) are allying to bring SHATTERED UNION to the big screen. It's based on a 2K game which is available HERE.

In the game, states secede from the U.S. and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington, D.C., is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation. Players control one of the warring group of states -- the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance are three of the six -- or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America.

...explains THIS piece in Variety.

Similar territory was recently explored on CBS by the series JERICHO. The show garnered lackluster ratings but raised a rabid fanbase whose devotion resulted in a soon-to-be-released "Season 3" comic book series (from the show's masterminds). Like UNION, the JERICHO comics will chronicle a modern day Civil War in America.

The SHATTERED UNION game looks like this...

That's why I enjoy DMZ so much. Anyone else read it? One of the better comics I've read for quite a while. Never played this 2K game though. Hope the movie ends up decent at least. I gather the game was mediocre at best?.

    Straczynski off Thor?

    by brundlelfy

He was the best thing Thor had in a good while. His first 2 or 3 arcs for ASM were very good too. It's a shame he jumped to DC, though.

    THE J. Michael Straczynski

    by thelordofhell

Oh yeah, I remember him. He's the guy that takes 3 months to write a single issue of a comic and was jetisoned of off the World War Z movie for slackin'. I guess we'll see this next project done at around 2020.

    by ultraman2000

I give the guy props for starting some compelling stories. Spider-Man, Rising Stars, Squadron Supreme, Thor--all started strong, but due to ADHD, overwork and/or recurring cerebral spasms, JMS simply couldn't finish them properly. Even the current Thor story arc (really, a continuation of concepts introduced in the first issue) will be completed by another writer as part of Marvel's misguided 'Siege' crossover.

    by rben

One of the first kids shows to use extensive computer animation as i recall. Pretty good show but where the hell is the DVD? As for JMS, read around 5 ASM collections at the library and thought they were pretty good. I'm in a southern library which may explain why Gaiman's Sandman and other non-spandex graphic novels are no where to be found. Does anyone know if those exclusions are exclusive to the south. (i.e. do northern library have gaiman, y: the last man, etc.) i usually can't bring myself to buy graphic novels that i can read in an hour. Just seems like a waste of coin. Although i did read Ultimate Galactus 3 at the library and was so impressed by the visuals that i may break that decree....

Texas is always your real enemy, the rest of the territories you convert to your side are just a means to defeating Texas. Because they've got the oil and the nukes, and you know of all the territories, Texas is the one that's going to be a problem.

2010 and 2012 will be our Second Civil Wars

    by starship captain

By the time this movie appears a REAL second civil war will have taken place, though peacefully and at the election booth. The truth is Americans have woken up to what an empty suit, slick talking, used car salesman Obama actually is (translation: he's clueless and useless), not to mention what utter pieces of human shit people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are. Or to put it in simple English, what utter dumb asses the Democrats have proven to be, even though they're still trying their best to ruin this country.Which is why the elections next week will be an opening salvo, followed by the elections in 2010 and 2012 as they all get their asses kicked out of office. And then we get this country back on track and back to normalcy.
