A Trailer For Paul Greengrass & Matt Damon's GREEN ZONE Is Now Online!!
Merrick here...
Yahoo has posted a trailer for the Paul Greengrass military thriller GREEN ZONE, starring Matt Damon, lots of running and 'splosions, and no small amount of shaky cam. Although...did my eyes deceive me?...or were some of those shots reasonably well locked down?
This is "inspired by" a book from Rajiv Chandrasekaran, which is available HERE
.
You can view the trailer via the embed below...

LOVES shaky cam.
-
Bourne 4?
-
MATT DAMON
-
but far too much like another bourne movie, couldnt greenrass have gone with someone else?
-
Does Paul Greengrass let other blokes "mow his lawn" 'narf narf' 'chortle chortle' 'guffaw guffaw'
-
Which isn't a bad thing.
-
I was very excited about Sly's attempt at the Dirty Dozen until I recently saw the trailer. God that movie looks awful.
-
Fuck Greengrass' hand-held camera. Fucking nauseating sophomoric filmmaking.
-
It's taken a really dark turn, which makes me wonder what they're going to do to screw it up.
-
...I'm not complaining...I dig the BOURNE flicks and this looks solidly more of the same. Not very many people make this type of movie even watchable these days.
-
...dickveins. I mostly agree with you, but when one of our own is looking gimpy we acknowledge it...and then discreetly look away. There is no need to kick a man wearing a beret. That man has already kicked himself.
-
that was similar or exactly the same as a line Dicaprio said to him in the Departed?
-
Hopefully, ShakeyCam will go the way of the hyperactive zoom lens from the '70s. I'm done with buying Dramamine before I go to the movies.
-
Greengrass is a brilliant director and he took the Bourne franchise and single handedly launched it into the stratosphere as far as I'm concerned and his latest not surprisingly looks terrific. I'll be there opening morning.
-
He directed that pile of B Movie shit. The EXPENDABLES could have looked cool if he hired someone who knows what decade it is. It looks like MISSING IN ACTION 2 with the tone of TANGO AND CASH... And it cost 70 friggin' million... which they'll make back with DVD and Foreign combined.

lol would people be ok with the war if weapons were found?
by awepittance
and if so isn't that kind of stupid?
-
I-I-I-I-I'm t-t-t-there.
-
...but just look away. It's like when grandpa farts at dinner. We pretend nothing happened...because we love him.
-
that's exactly what this looks like
"You don't know who you're dealing with!" -
I was expecting this to be more along the lines of United 93 than the Bourne films. Nevertheless it looks tremendous, Greengrass hasn't put a foot wrong yet.
-
it does look just like bourne in Iraq. I'm surprised it looks like it has so much action. I thought it was going to be more drama. It's so similar to Bourne in that he becomes rogue, and a smart government guy with spectacles (kinnear) is talking shit and trying to save his own ass (just like strathairn, cooper in the bourne movies).
-
Anyone watch the HD version? Some of the most annoying grain I've ever seen since Miami Vice. And I like grain in my movies! Hope it's some sort of transfer flaw, but that is distracting.
-
Striesand, but I think he's Rocking the Shit in this one...
-
even the animation with the text is the same as the bourne trailers and credits
-
TEAM AMERICA:WORLD POLICEFuck Yeah!
-
i admit it does look like a bourne 4 but obviously by my name it doesnt bother me. i too was suprised by all the action, i thought it would be a straight up drama with little action like syriana. matt damon seems like bourne in this one but with an anxiety issue lol
-
With Damon and Kinear reprising their roles?
-
Like someone said above. That's no bad thing though - BODY was a great movie that got little in the way of love. Some interesting movies are working their way out of the whole conflict issue: HURT LOCKER, SYRIANA, THE KINGDOM, (yeah it was CSI: BAGHDAD, but so what), REDACTED and so on. Part of me wants to see someone make an unapologetic unironic gung-ho war movie though; something like THE GREEN BERETS, rather than the sober-ish meditations on violence that we're tending to get. Closest thing we've had to that recently is BLACK HAWK DOWN, which (in many ways quite sensibly) ignores geo-political considerations and concentrates instead on the business of blowing shit up.
-
> You mean the US GOVERNMENT is really the root of all evil?!
-
Hell, the last two 007 movies were Bourne flicks. This looks like a nice movie to get while we wait for Bourne 4.
-
JFC...
-
ROFL, good one!
-
This here's the bandwagon of "The US is the fount of evil in modern times, especially the military, so let's make a film about lies, corruption, war profiteering, and political wrangling (prominently featuring Republicans and Conservatives) and sit back while Hollywood and the rest of the panty-lace world applauds and cowers before fundamentalist terrorists." "Thanks, George. Haven't seen you since the Ocean movies. Say, what's Bob Redford and the gay guy from Brokeback doing here?" "Oh, they've been here a while, almost as long as the Michael Moore and Viggo the long haired hippie wannabe from LOTR." "Cool."

"I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass..."
by no respectable gentleman
" ...coz a sober look at corruption among the occupying forces in Iraq don't make the sound KA-CHING!"
-
You're a short-sighted D-Bag, everyone hates their government and corporations, and much of society in general, b/c it squashes the individual in the interest of the greater good. Once the greater good is defined as "money" or "power" or "oil" we are all fucked.
-
Saw it already, it was...meh...quess I'll give it a second try with Matt Damon in his Army Oakleys that just look oh so cool. Greengrass is the man though...don't get me wrong...just doesn't look very original. Crowe will be better than Kinear in the "I'm a pencil pushing beurocrat that calls the shots" role. Oh yeah...and bring on Matrix 4...not.
-
Damon is becoming as can't-miss as any actor in the biz right now.
-
He does quality stuff and only sells out every once in a while. That puts him ahead of Gerard Butler in my book.
-
Use the same world and continuity without NEO and 50% of the philosophical babble. Those Albino razor blade dudes fucking shit up may be intersting
-
That's all I got from this trailer. Hell they even had the gall to have him do that fucking overused "cell phone call to the superior officer/agent and surprise them".
-
just watch The Hurt Locker again. Infinitely better than what this tripe will turn out to be.
-
Ultimatum was easily the worst Bourne film of the trilogy. Supremacy was the best though so...Greengrass is alright. I just think his shaky cam nonsense is frustrating and just a lazy way to film an action scene. That and this trailer is just plain bland.
-
I just don't buy Damon as a bad ass soldier. I thought the Bourne films were really good comedy though.
-
Agreed that Supremacy was the best. Love that film.
-
Yeah, give Neil Blomkamp 40 bucks and a Pentium 4 and he will be fucking all our eyes with a 300 lb leather bound Lawrence Fishbourne hanging from a stunt wire. "Take the red pil, the blue pill, or the prune juice?"
-
Talk about a hack director!
-
How many box office failures before they realize that? The Kingdom, Stop-Loss, Body of Lies, Traitor. Even The Hurt Locker with all its raves and excellent word of mouth only did 12.5 million. Not even the Bourne Boys can make this one fly. It's won't even sniff $100 million.
-
I think this was supposed to come out some time this year and got pushed back for whatever reason, to the wastelands of March, but hey, march is the new start of summer blockbusters, right? I think the book this was based on was more straightforward approach about the search for WMD and potential government cover up. That's why I thought this would be more serious as well. Is it Damon and Greengrass's fault, was it originally supposed to just be an action movie, or did the execs see the rep that Damon and Greengrass had and just turn it into an action film, possibly causing the delays? Iraq war films haven't succeeded and now that we're out of Iraq or at least going to be this seems dated.
-
Bourne is next ohhhh Yea!!!!
-
Get the fuck off this subject already Hollywood...
-
Echo what others have said. My first thought on seeing this trailer is basically: This is where I could see the Bourne character going next (thematically, and perhaps even literally location-wise) -- he'd become re-employed by a different branch to help take out the very rogue elements which spawned him in the first place. Greengrass is one of the best filmmakers working today, in my opinion -- as someone else also noted, he single-handedly raised the caliber of the Bourne franchise (though I still do feel the second film, Greengrass' first, is the best) to something special. I wish they'd just leave it alone at this point -- especially since this film seems, in all capacities, to function as a de-facto Bourne 4 anyway...that being said, it looks great!
-
Greengrass + Damon = ten bucks well spent. We'll wait and see if it justified the 8 dollar hot dog, 4 dollar coke and 4 dollar reeses pieces.
-
It has Matt Damon and the same director. End of comparisons. I don't get you guys. I've only seen a trailer and I can tell the characters are nothing alike. This one's set in a real word. I like war realism and though this has an obvious conspiracy thriller angle, and I think it might be a really good film. I'll reserve judgment until we get a better view. Plus, Holly from The Office. Yeah.
-
Hmm, so a movie starring Matt Damon, where he's some sort of government official, highlight intelligent and smart at what he does, now feels wronged by the powers that be, and goes on a relentless mission to destroy them and find out the the truth he needs. Why's that sound so familiar... ? :p
-
Not only was Identity > Ultimatum, it was the best of the Bourne films, period. Check the fight sequence at the consulate in Identity vs. any fight sequence in the other two films. It's awesome; tight, great use of camera with a nice overhead angle of him taking out two people at once, perfect framing... Greengrass never even came close to approaching anything as good as what was done in the first Bourne film. I like his storytelling, but the shakycam has got to go.
-
Seriously, it's been in production since forever. Wasn't it supposed to be out in August last year?Has it been delayed because of the Studio's Iraq-war-itis, or for some other reason?
-
Fuck Bourne! Those movies are shit with that damn shaky cam! Fuck Greengrass for his lack of talent and vision.
-
Tom Hanson: "David. I really hope .. you're happy."
Jason Bourne: "Who's David?" -
Dick in greengrass
-
That's unbelievable. Hopefully Renner and the black dude and Bigelow get Oscar noms and boost DVD sales. It's bullshit that all of America didn't watch it.
-
This looks boring. "The Hurt Locker" does it better. :)
-
I don't think so, 5your 5 minutes of popularity is up, move along....
-
But those with power and influence want these war movies coming out of Hollywood. Without the Iraq setting this could have been a huge commercial film. Instead, it's going to be the slickest, most entertaining war propaganda film yet. I know most of the war films coming out have been anti-war for the most part, but the highest profile one to date, The Kingdom, was pure pro-west propaganda. This movie looks the same.
-
...a bomb tech in the military. How are these two movies the same. That's like saying "Platoon" is just like "Predator". Or maybe they are the same, they both have Sexual Tyranasauruses in action, and Bill Duke kills a huge pig in both of them.
-
I'll go see it. Not convinced by the trailer though.
-
Who has a better career as an actor? DiCaprio and Will Smith are on par, maybe Brad Pitt, but all three of them are permanent fixtures in the shitrags and gossip columns and need a small army of monkey-ass bodyguards wherever they go. Is it because Damon doesn't tease all the shitbrains with useless tidbits from his personal life? The Kimmel bits are great, he does a quality self-parody, and he seems to get that at the end of the day he's just a fucking actor. Maybe its the apparent lack of hubris, or maybe he's just really good. But this guy is killing it right now.
-
Where the pro-US angle was presented as nothing more than a mirror of the terrorists' viewpoint?
-
You decide!

NOT a Bourne movie - am I the only one who's read the books?
by potter4eva
This is NOT a Bourne movie. Having read every single Bourne book (love the original Ludlum books), this is not what Bourne is about. Bourne is really about a guy (whose real name is NOT Bourne) who went deep cover because of things that happened to his family in Viet Nam and then he lost his memory and only remembered his deep cover name of Bourne. He was then double-crossed.
However, I'm excited to see Matt Damon in another action sequenced film as a military guy who wants to get to the bottom of the truth. LOVE HIM! But love Bourne better. ;) -
this is not based on the Chandrasekeran book, unless by 'based on' you mean they're both about the Iraq War. "Imperial Life in the Emerald City" is a non-fiction account behind the politics responsible for the mishandling of many aspects of our initial activity there. It was not anything resembling an action thriller.
-
-- Only employ cameramen with Parkinson's to film his movies? Choose a fucking angle, Paul.
-
I literally laughed out loud at your Blomkamp comment. Well done. Not being sarcastic either.
-
Perhaps this is an experiment by Greengrass and Damon? "Let's see if we can get America to consume an anti-Iraq movie by making it look like a Bourne movie?"
By the way, Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are idiot cunt hypocrites. But they make great action movies! -
I'm completely against the war and I know these movies are propaganda, but even I liked the Kingdom. It's has to be presented that way. The wars are so unpopular they have to sneak the mind control in by tricking you into believing the movie is presenting a balanced view. In the end the film was 99% pro-west, even though the majority of the world would tell you that we are the bad guys over there. We are living in an age of mass mind control. http://tinyurl.com/yl8wc8z
-
Looks like every Bourne movie and The Kingdom. I thought the book would've made a great satirical look at war, like a real life Catch 22. Guess they decided to go another, less interesting way.
-
This is fucking Bourn with a disguised title. What the fuck man. http://sickpicks.blogspot.com/
-
"Life In the Emerald City" is about the screwed up occupation of iraq and how the bush "administration" sent cronies and political hacks to "take charge" in the Green Zone, who then proceeded to send the entire US occupation circling the bowl. This movie looks like a "bournization" of the search for iraqi WMD--which is also not a reflection of what actually happened.
-
...it's nothing like the book. At all. The only thing it shares is the setting, the Green Zone in Baghdad.
I sat and read a few chapters of the book in the local public library, and yeah, it definitely bears no resemblance to Bourne 4: Beating the Piss Out of More Dudes. Instead, it's a sober look at the Iraqi occupation in a removed historical account. It's a history book from a major newspaper journalist.
Though, a caveat, I do like the Bourne flicks a whole bunch. -
Dr. Morbius, that's some funny shit. I usually don't like these games, but you just made this one so fun and welcoming. Though I think you took damn near every one possibleThis is totally Bourne. At least from this trailer.
-
Hurt Locker was awesome. Easily one of the 5 best of the year. Fuck middle America for not seeing it, or anybody else who skipped it.
-
From the trailer, looks to be about a dogged republican soldier who is SURE there are weapons in Iraq, who then uncovers some corporate war profiteering thing. Possibly (?) a movie in which the right is both the good and bad guys?
-
Looks like it will be an entertaining fick. But Americans doesn't want to see ANY movies about the Iraq war.
-
Looks like the only thing it shares with the book is the title.
I was wondering how the hell they're making a movie true to the book.
Guess they couldnt. -
...comes.....even more FUCKING shaky cam.Why should I give a shit, even though the story sounds interesting? There's no fucking point to watch these blurry millisecond images.
-
Even down to the same title font ! Plus the CGI helicopters looks fake. However the film will probably be good.
-
Let's give it a rest guys, it got fucking old with that black hawk down commercial.
-
Man.

Looks like it could be a good action movie though. Damon looks surprisingly badass. The older Damon gets the more I can take him seriously I've discovered.

Math wiz decides to go double O seven
-
This one will be more Rush Hour with Afflack, whos name now that I write it looks really odd.
-
hey dude you said you have read all the books. have you read the newest one that came out . i think its called the bourne deception? i was wondering if it was any good
-
Theres a Mystery Men captain amazing joke here I cant get my head around
-
Dont read these books. He dead.
-
As Good as It Gets remember that, Greg Kinnear joke. OKay i'm done for tonight.
-
is a great story-teller, but this shaky-cam shit really has to stop. I swear, 'Avatar' will blow everyones socks off simply because Cameron will use a tripod and you'll be able to follow the flow of the action. Shaky-cam doesn't make it 'more real and exciting' it makes it nauseating and impossible to follow.
-
no mention?
-
It will be closer to United 93. Thing is, the fucking trailer is just another of those stupid misleading fucking trailer made by assmonkeys who are so desperate to sell movies they edited EVERYTHING as if they are action movies. The trailer might even have ALL THE EXPLOSIONS of the movie, and they shove it all in to to try to convince the slackjaws that this is an action movie and please come see it. It's advertizing at its most fraudulent. This fucking retarded idiots at advertize thinks it's more important to make a drama lok dumb and as an action movei to sell to the action junkie idiots, then to sell a smart movie to the people who might actually want to see it and make a trailer accordingly. The new trailers are so fucking bad, i could swear that Michael Bay edits all of them.
-
Go die in a fucking fire.

is that it got to be posted twice.
-
someone buy Greengrass a tripod already.
Couldn't help but think Bour... I mean Damon was going to finish the line "I know what you did...last summer"
Oh and it's got a Blackhawk going down in it so it's topical, mmmk? Seriously, has anyone ever sucessfully landed one? -
Who cares. Damon is a cocksucker anyway.
-
Doesn't look a patch on Hurt Locker but Greengrass hasn't steered me wrong yet and with Amy Ryan and Brendan Gleeson i can;t pass this up
-
I just logged in to say just that but you beat me to the punch. Brendan Gleeson=Me blindly handing over my cash. Not only one of the best actors out there but also the most likeable.
-
It is you, who despite the man having a residence your country who arrested Roman Polanski for cheap publicity. It is you, in fact, who suck. Also, ant-Iraq war policy is not Anti-US and anyone who cannot make that distinction is pretty fucking stupid. BTW, Russell Crowe in "Body of Lies" was funny as hell.
-
Looks more like an updated version of Clear & Present Danger.
-
See me take a shit in sympathy for the hurt feelings of the neo-con fools who voted for Georgie Dumbya Bushie twice!! BOOO HOOOOOOO!!!What hwe neo-con loonies don't understand is that being anti-Bushie is not being anti-american. In fact, being anti-Bushie is a very american thing to do. And Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are making a movie witrh futher exposes the bullshit that was the piracy act that is the Iraqi War and occupation. Must reelly hurts them in their fuckign ass to see their beloved dumb stupid inept imcompetent president bullshit surfacing and be put in a movie form for the millions to see. Fucking asses!!

Hate to say it, but I'd prefer Bourne 4 to this new movie.
by creasybear
Politics aside, I don't like modern day US vs Muslim territory: too much brown / too much heat. All the settings look the same. (Okay, I did watch Three Kings and The Kingdom, but Syriana, Jarhead, Blackhawk Down and all the rest were left out).
-

In fact, you'd think the Muslim radicals who are emigrating

to Europe and America would relax a little now that they have some better scenery around them. A cool breeze, some nice trees, a shady picnic: you still want to blow shit up when you're finally out of the miserable heat and dust of your wretched desert homeland? (That was an excerpt from my geopolitical thesis. I got a B+.)
