L.A. Readers! Join Mr. Beaks For An IMAX 3D Screening Of Robert Zemeckis's A CHRISTMAS CAROL On Nov. 2nd!

Published at:  Oct 26, 2009 10:39:03 PM CDT

Beaks here...

I cannot confirm that Robert Zemeckis's A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a surprisingly dark, visually astonishing, narratively faithful adaptation of the holiday classic, but I can tell you that if you live in the Los Angeles area, you can find out for yourself on November 2nd, 2009 what the director of BACK TO THE FUTURE, FORREST GUMP, CAST AWAY, CONTACT and USED CARS has done to Charles Dickens's tome. In IMAX 3D, no less!

This is the way to see A CHRISTMAS CAROL! So if you want to take a dizzying ride through Victorian-era London with me, fire off an email to aicncontests@gmail.com with the subject header "Bah Humbug!!!" (exclamation marks optional) posthaste! The screening will be at the AMC CityWalk in Universal City, and will begin promptly at 7 PM.

Since this is a family film, I will allow readers up to three guests if they promise me they're bringing their kids. If you're just a miserable single Scrooge like me, you get a +1. Please do not try to sneak in three of your friends. It will not end well for you. (And make sure to give me the full names of your guests.)

I'll have the list of attendees up later in the week. Hope to see a bunch of you there! I promise to be Swine Flu free (and present) for this one!

    by moley mole

That's right, I said again. I already caught it about a week ago during the crew/cast screening over at the El Capitain in LA. Pretty fantastic, imho. Sure I'm biased since I worked on it, but I pretty sure I can remove myself just enough to see that it's a damned good version of the Scrooge tail. Btw, get ready for some upset parents thinking this is an ultra-kid-friendly Disney film, when it is actually kinda dark with a gothic edge to it. Oh yeah...YES, the 3D eyes are much, MUCH better than past mocap films!!

I'm glad that Disney was able to accurately capture the slapstick humor and action sequences from Dickens' Christmas Carol novel.

Since you seem to be in the business of enforcing proper talkback etiquette, I’ll chime in with my own advice that has served me well: Never post something that would be inappropriate/offensive in a normal social setting. For example, say we’re coworkers and we’re chatting around the water cooler. Me: “Hey I heard there was a free screening of that crappy looking Christmas Carol. Man, you couldn’t pay me to sit through that.” You: “You’re a fucking prick.” Who do you honestly think would look like the prick in that scenario? If you choose to respond, I’d prefer an honest, thoughtful answer. If you come at me with some more snarky, passive aggressive B.S., I will write you dismiss you as a troll and not waste my time responding. I don’t act that way and I won’t take the bait from folks that do. Am I taking this too personally? Perhaps. But I don’t hide behind some screen name to spew venom. There are people on here wishing for the director to get cancer for God’s sake. And I get put on blast for voicing my opinion about an upcoming film? Come on man. Thats just childish.

What are there, 25 versions of this film already? In fact, I can't think of a movie that's been remade more! I couldn't possibly be less interested in this. I'm worried this will steal my local IMAX away from Avatar and that would really piss me off!

You know it's gotta be coming. If not that, maybe a mo-cap Death Becomes Her sequel. Check out IMDB, if you look at the recent Zemeckis pictures on there, it looks like the mo-caped a little more hair on his balding head.

I just checked my local IMAX and Avatar is replacing A Christmas Carol on December 18th.Also, The Wizard of Oz 70th anniversay restoration is playing in November (not the IMAX though). I wonder why we haven't heard about this theatrical rerelease. I just watched the Blu-ray so I'm not worried about it but I'm sure it will be big news to some.

One thing I've always wanted to see...

    by orbots commander

...was the laugh out loud slapstick sequences and Scrooge rocketing through the London sky like Iron Man, that Dickens captured oh so effectively, translated to the big screen.

Seriously, this looks like the biggest piece of shit since The Grinch. Funny enough, Jim Carrey at his most irritating, also starred in that one.

you should be a politician, brother. you make a snarky, rude comment in a talkback where AICN is providing a free screening for it's readers, and I make a joke at your expense, and you're off on water coolers and cancer? good misdirection.and if you think I'm a troll, you're unclear on the concept, kiddo. I've been coming here for 10 years, and have written like 5 reviews for the site. I've earned the right to call out kids who have to be negative nancys just because being contrary is cooler than saying nothing at all.but again, maybe I'm over analyzing it. maybe, as I posited previously, you are, in fact, just a prick. and by the bye, just to indulge your water cooler fantasy (and hopefully, to teach you the magic of html in making your little dialogues clearer), I'll show you a more appropriate metaphor:
Boss: "Hey, I've arranged a free screening of the new Christmas Carol movie for everyone in the office. Just a nice little thing I thought I'd do for you guys."
SnallyG: "You couldn't pay me to sit through that piece of crap."
    BadMrWonka: "You're a prick."
Boss: "Seriously...if you do't want to go, don't go....no need to be a prick."
    SnallyG: "You're a troll!"
    Boss: "You're fired."
    BadMrWonka: "Ouch..."

Believe it or not, that wasn't sarcasm. I've just decided that folks here would rather not have the talkback clogged up with juvenile pissing matches. While some may enjoy the flaming, I come here for cool movie news and to exchange opinions. I'm hereby committed to a more civil discourse. When I'm feeling less than civil, I'll try my best to keep my mouth shut, but I'm not really interested in providing an opportunity for hostile responses.
