Ron Livingston set to dine with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell in Jay Roach's DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS!

Published at:  Oct 26, 2009 3:28:12 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Say what you will, but Jay Roach is assembling some of my favorite comedic actors for his new film DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS. According to Variety Ron Livingston will be joining Paul Rudd and Steve Carell in the flick.

DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS is a remake of a French film Le dinner de cons in which a group of rich sophisticates have a weekly dinner in which each brings along the stupidest person they can find and encourages them to talk as much as possible. The idea is after all the richies can get together and make fun of the poor dumb bastard they just treated to a nice meal.

Great premise, I can see why they're attempting a redo of the 1998 French flick. As Winston would say, Roach has the tools and now he has the talent to make this one really funny. Let's hope he delivers on that promise!

ARE WE EVER GONNA GET AN ANSWER ON ROCKY 7?

It's been on /Film for a while and it's all over Google News. Have Harry get in contact with Sly and ask him WTF?!

Oh, and Roach directing doesn't mean much.

    by juansanchez

Austin Powers - great material = great movie. Spy Who Shagged Me and Goldmember - so-so material = so-so movies. Meet the Fockers - awful material = awful movie. Meet the Parents actually had some okay material, but ended up bad - so he affected that one in a negative way. The rest - no effect.

That's a non-news story. That bit of info was taken from a 3 year old interview and Stallone has no plans on revisiting Rocky as per the publicist on Expendables - http://tinyurl.com/yzvhykcIt's a non-news story from the beginning. Although in the blog the publicist says she's going to be releasing a photo of Arnie, Bruce and Sly from The Expendables as soon as she can get it through the approval process, which puts it in the very near future. That will be cool news.

    Ghastly title...

    by charlie & tex

...for what will almost certainly be a dreadful remake - the original French movie is absolutely hysterical.

The original French movie is hilarious

    by yackbacker

There's little in this remake that I find interesting. Carell is going to be playing the same douche as always- he's like a low-grade headache.

    Please No!

The Dinner Game is a movie I stumbled on one day when I was home sick. It is one of the funniest movies I've seen. I can see Carrel and Rudd pulling it off but Jay Roach? That guy makes dog shit somehow smell WORSE! Austin Powers 2, 3 (and soon 4) sucked (or will suck in the future in the case of 4), Meet the Fockers was embarrassing. Mystery Alaska was good, and Recount was Meh-tacular, but I have no faith in that guy's sensibilities at all.

I'm a little out of sync here but

I found the French movie to be pretty sappy and predictable. Not even chuckle-worthy. But French comedies are usually pretty sappy, so maybe an American re-make will have a harder edge and be pretty good. One can hope.

Is it sad that the funniest joke in those movies is Ben Stiller's last name? Yes, it is sad.

    by series7

Go look at the french directors career, all his movies get remade. The Birdcage, something else, another movie I can't recall. Go IMDB it.

    "The Dinner Game"

    by captzeep

was a better title. I don't know, there was something French about the humor of this movie, I don't know if it will translate. The whole point is mocking snobbery, which is very French; American snobs are hardly worth knocking.

    The title is shit

    by pumaman

"A Dick's Dinner" would work, but Schmucks is way too old sounding.

They could hire any number of funny actors to play the rich bastards, but chosing the poor idiot will be the part that I'd bet they all secretly want...

I'd be happy with Carrel though in the lead, or even Jason Segel?

The whole team from "The Hangover" would make wonderful assholes, or again.... any one of those would be great as the 'smhmuck'

So the rich people are all jewish?

    by macready452

Schmuck is a yiddish word right. This title blows. It would be cool if this was entirely set at the dinner with little to no set up. Something along the lines of the Odd Couple stage production where any actor could play any other part in the ensemble. It won't be like that though. ftw.
