UPDATED!! Hercules Has Seen Next Week’s Hilarious, Extra-Gay And Samson-Free Second Episode Of THE VENTURE BROS.!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
UPDATE!! The Cartoon Network just informed me I actually saw and reviewed 4.2 below instead of tonight's 4.1. I've no idea why!
Original post:
I am – Hercules!!
Notes on the brilliant fourth-season premiere of “The Venture Bros.” premiering Sunday:
* Episode’s first line: “Ah ha ha ha ha ha!! Time to pay the piper, Venture!!”
* Brock is still absent and Rusty has taken on a surprising (and ill-chosen!) replacement.
* Hank, now bereft of spare clone bodies, has evolved his look. He’s also offered a job opportunity.
* A new and highly Superman-like character, Captain Sunshine, is introduced quite early on.
* Sunshine belongs to a Justice League-like organization whose members include Barbeque and Ghost Robot. All members have unexpected night jobs.
* The death of henchman 24 has changed henchman 21 in a profound and unexpected way.
* We learn Billy Quizboy is now 37.
Six of the funniest lines that won’t completely spoil the episode for you reside in invisotext.
* “I half-expect it to have Popeye cartoons on it when I peel it off my thigh.”
* “Hey, missing a couple of zeroes there, Oprah!”
* “Playtime’s over! Time to get your gay little ass home!”
* “Suggested application is to the buttocks and inner thigh.”
* “You know the rules, Scorpio. He’s off limits during training.”
* “Just kidding!!”
11:59 p.m. Sunday. Cartoon Network.

can't be
-
Time to use the DVR, because unfortunately I get up really early.
Ivana Cocktease maybe Brock's replacement, or she and her new team are? One can hope to continue Rusty's sexual frustration and angst.
Dean and Treanna? Maybe some more direction there. -
It's so much worse.
-
just FYI.
-
"Ivana Cocktease" doesn't even make sense. From the season finale I would say it's Hatred, which is gotta be hillarious.
-
That is all.
-
and I can't wait to see the new season. Season 3 was a bit of a let down in comparison to the first two, but I still loved it anyways. And yeah it's Molotov not "Ivana", you're making up your own characters apparently....
-
Rawr!
-
loved it. the new bodyguard is *spoiler* Hatred, he has a weird new uniform. The situation between doc and the monarch is hilarious, as is captain sunshine (voiced by kevin freakin conroy! which is great given how many batman jokes they throw in). I cant wait
-
I'm staying up past midnight for this one!
-
I'm so happy
-
Are they retiring the character or something? The show wouldn't be the same without him.
-
when can we expect the interview Herc, you said you were holding unto it until closer to the season premiere

Man the Sunday's here on out is going to be fantastic!
by hollywoodhellraiser
Venture Bros and MadMan! Whew, can it get any better!
-
If I watched this show I'd Venture a guess.......
-
Can't freakin' wait!
-
You have the Simpsons book. You have the new Stephen King book. Did you notice the irony that the plot overview of the King book sounds like the Simpsons Movie? A town finds itself suddenly under a dome.
-
God, I love this show more than life itself. Can't wait for the midnighty goodness.
-
What a long wait, huh? I wish they were still putting episodes up on as.com early like they used to. Midnight is too far away! Seriously, though, Samson free?! I was hoping we'd at least get an idea where he's headed..
-
Um... well.... if you saw the trailer that they showed at comic-con then it's pretty darn obvious that Hatred is the new bodyguard. Granted I haven't seen the episode yet, but the surprise would be if it WEREN'T Hatred, not if it WERE Hatred.
-
Col. Hunter Gathers! the post-op stripper!
-
In the teaser, it kind of looked like 21 would become the new Venture bodygaurd, wasn't that him in the D&D getup shaking hands with Venture, we've already seen that he seems to be going through a weird geek-Rambo phase after 24's death, it would be an interesting take on the character. Technically Hatred couldn't be the new bodygaurd because of his court order, remember.

Really, really, really wish they'd return to the idea of...
by danielkurland
Dr. Venture becoming a villain. The whole conclusion of that episode, with the music and everything is perfect, and it'd be such a nice twist for the show. Anyone thinking they'll be an altered opening credit sequence this year, like in the past?
-
I think its hot shit in a champagne glass and not cold diarrhea in a dixe cup!
-
The Simpsons does not suck right now, and the Venture Bros. is the best show on TV. Now get that stick out of your ass, and let's have a good time!
-
and it makes you an OPINIONATED MONKEY!
-
How long ago was that?
-
was foolishly conducted at a noisy rooftop party at ComicCon, which makes transcribing it very slow going.
-
Wasn't as crazy about season 3 but here's hoping they're back on form.
-
I'm not PLEASED with the answer but at least there is a reason. Couldn't you at least give us kind of an overview of it

lockesbrokenleg, if you hate the show why are even on this TB?
by mr incredible
Man, you must be a glutton for punishment. Yes, people really watch this show. Believe it or not, there are other things on television besides LOST.
-
Squashed my damn subject line. Brilliant. Everyone gets my drift.
-
I am sooooo confused!!!! But I like it.
-
I hope he doesn't stick around too long.
-
some flashback stuff!
-
I've seen something worse than Stargate: Universe

So those ratings and price in the corner were for comics!
by hollywoodhellraiser
I knew it! LOL This show is a geeks wetdream!
-
Man this premiere is boss!!! I can't wait to rewatch this again!
-
Is it just me or is this review for episode 2. I just watched the ep, and none of this happened. However, everything mentioned here I saw in the preview for next week. way to drop the ball herc.
-
Time to rewind!
-
Welcome back, Venture Bros. Well done.

I toltally didn't read Herc TB so no spoilers for me!
by hollywoodhellraiser
Hatred did not annoy and Brock and the OSI twist is genius!Rusty being asked to clone people is funny! Too bad he doesn't know the value of a comic!

"Now I can cross killing Hitler off my list of cool shit I never
by givemeanfinbreak
Or something like that. Classic.
-
didn't know what was going on but totally worth it, the pay off in the end was great...and Hank taking credit for killing Hitler after being promised an Ice Cream cake
-
Life may suck, but at least Sunday nights will once more be cause to celebrate. Damn good episode...hated the flashback format at first, but once I caught the comics grading joke at the end it all made sense and I laughed my ass off. Cant will till next week when we get Batman vs The Monarch!!!
-
Where's Batman?" - Hank Venture"It was me. I totally killed Hitler."
-
even with the lack of the Monarch, this was one of the better episodes of the series. Hank's new look/attitude is awesome. I love how Dr. Venture cares less and less whether the boys realize they are clones. Love giant spider H.E.L.P.eR. and One day I will own a bulldog named Hitler. Is that socially unacceptable? Too soon? Best show on TV.
-
Curb, Dexter, Mad Men and Venture Bros!!.
For me Dexter and Mad Men are in the top 5 dramas and Curb and Venture Bros are in the top 5 comedies. -
Wow I guess the internet has to hate something ya know. Season 3 had some of the greatest eps of the series. ORB and The Lepidopterists were classics plus it had a lot of Venture Lore. And thats something I really like. Saw the opener. It was confusing at first then it started to gel together..Brilliant! The comic book price tag joke was a nice payoff and I guess we are going to get into some OSI-Sphinx stuff this season. The genius of the show is that Doc and Jackson have created a world that you almost feel you can step into. And thats the sign of classic fiction.
-
Last line in your review was "Just kidding"!
The episode itself was as out of sequence as Herc's review. I guess the decreasing CGC value helps reveal the actual order of events... what an awesome and hilarious device!
Seems the whole episode was a long homage to Marvel Comics #1. Was Brock's escape a reference to a real panel in the comic? "Look it up on the internet and you'll see that what I tell you true", 21 says. Well I did, and the cover looks just like that and does indeed mention Kazar the Great and 12 Pages of Jungle Adventure. Effing great premier! -
At one point they use the comic to scoop up dog poop!As usual, I had to watch it twice to get any of the stuff BrandLoyalist pegs. I thought it was alternate universes and time travel, but following the "decreasing value method" I pieced it together the second time. This show is great!
-
The same reason people shit all over any other thread on this site?
-
I thought they were going to show things from a different perspective, but no - the episode started over. WTF?
-
They better not cut this off at 12:30.
-
Half the show played twice, then they cut it off.
-
West Coast gets fucked out of seeing the entire episode. That's awesome.
-
Oh my heart.
Murderously Yours,
MACHVII -
they played the same first 15 mins twice and dumped out to Dethklok!!
-
Because I don't see it playing at all tonight.
-
Who watches this shit?
-
...was that. I'm not drunk, and I'm not high, and I have no idea what the hell just happened. Can someone just break it down for me, include all the spoilers you need, because I will admit I'm the lone retard who had no idea what was happening in that episode. In the words of Dr. Peter Venkman, "Ray, pretend for a moment that I don't know anything about metallurgy, engineering, or physics, and just tell me what the hell is going on."
-
again at 4:00 am on Adult Swim West. That's for me at least, on DirecTV.
-
What was with the episode restarting halfway through?
-
Huh?
-
I can only assume the 2nd half of the season premiere -- WHICH THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW -- would have helped explain what the hell was going on...this was making *no* sense.

**SPOILERS** A 95 % Chronological Breakdown of Tonight's Episode
by the shyster
- Aftermath; Season 3
- Samson wakes up in OSI (SHED) facility, overhears doctors talking (they speak of memory wipes & attitude adjustment, but are actually referring to Sgt. Hatred, who is revealed to have been a part of the agency, but went traitor) Samson escapes with Helper's head fused to his chest.
- Agents occupy the Venture compound from last seasons aftermath, everyone is under surveillance. Brock arrives under stealth and meets with Dean in secret to pass his comm link to Dr. Venture. Hank arrives & doesn't believe him at first, but sees the comm and realizes he IS still alive...
- In a not-too-distant-jungle, Herr Doctor supposedly secures Hitler's blood... in dog, meanwhile Samson arrives to have underworld surgery performed to have Helper separated. With help from a grenade in his mouth. The procedure works & Samson mails back Helper & some personal effects.
- Nazis arrive @ the compound to seek Dr. Venture's cloning expertise, where they reveal the dog holds the blood grail of the Fuhrer. They tell him he has no more than 8 months to create a bouncing baby Hitler from him (supposedly Hitler, or someone closely related to him, screwed a pooch)
- 21 seeks to have Dr. Venture clone 24, and offers his Marvel Comics issue #1 ($500,000) as collateral/payment. Rusty quickly shoo's him off, and gives the comic to Hank. The value decreases with each passing second... 24's finger is left behind in a cooler, and the X-1 is loaned/borrowed at some point.
- The package arrives, and Helper is reset. Samson goes into hiding...
~ interlude ~
- While staying with Steve & Bigfoot for months in their cabin in the woods, Samson is enormously fat & soft (with full beard), and realizes this when he decides to leave & seek out revenge on those who wronged him... starting with Molotov & Hunter Gathers.
- Dean field strips a handgun for over an hour, with expert precision. Hatred attempts to win over Hank in Samson's absence to.... bloody results. Helper 2.0 is revealed by Dr. Venture from the newly returned head... now with spider legs!
- While attempting to get the (very heavy) drop on Molotov & Gathers, Samson runs afoul of a Sphinx agent in the air ducts, and is shot by Molotov while goading Gathers. Samson fall out a window, bounces from a palm tree & is scooped up by Sphinx agents.
- Under questioning, the Sphinx agents ask Brock about his motive & who he's working for. After cooperating to the best of his ability, he is revealed to have been tied up with Hunter Gathers, who goes only to slowly reveal his true role to Brock... leader of a band of Sphinx/ex-OSI agents, full male, sans sex-change & knowing dick.
~interlude ~
- The X-1 returns with the former 21 & his LARP crew, the Orchard St. Wolfpac; the jet has been heavily graffitied by the Monarch's crew. 21 seeks to have 24 brought back by Orpheus (a necromancer) while Hitler the dog begins to show the great evil in him. "Uhhh... What comic were you reading?" Meanwhile, the Nazis arrive to collect their former fuhrer with negative results...
- The boys, Orpheus & Hatred plot saving Doc... in the bathroom. The Golden Dagger is revealed to be the only thing to kill Hitler... again.
- Sniper nest by Sgt. Hatred & Hank in attempt to save Dr. Venture from Nazis; Dean has lost the Golden Dagger, while Hitler is supposedly inside of (or has become dog) - Hatred orders Helper 2.0 to destroy Hitler, while Dean attempts a save & Orpheus attempts to quell the situation with a spell that goes awry. Nazis are taken out by stray lightning/magic, and go Raiders all over Rusty.
- All that remains is to destroy Hitler the dog, who is a bout to make a sneak attack on Dean, until it is foiled by a newly svelte & streamlined... Brock Samson. Samson wrestles the dog & stabs him with the secretly acquired Golden Dagger, and can now cross stabbing Hitler off of his cool things to do list. He makes Hank swear to secrecy that he is aware of his status & wishes him well, knowing he will see him again...
Fin.
-
And not even know it?
-
I have Verizon FiOS, and it shows just Family Guy and King of the Hill repeats playing from 1:30 on. Guess I'm just fucked.
-
Can't be right.
-
I'll record the 4:00 Family Guy just to be safe. Thank you.
-
Bootleg? Anyone?! I can't wait much longer thanks to Adult Swim West's MASSIVE fuck up!
-
You need to see this...

Not sure when it goes online, but it shouldn't be too long.
by juansanchez
-
Boy, that sounds like a cool show. Sure would have been nice to, you know, to see it.
-
Did it *have* to happen on the season premiere...?
-

About to find out if the replay plays correctly. *fingers crosse

-
Man, sometimes I can't help but feel they make us work too damn hard watching this show. I love it to death, but I'd like to enjoy it without having to piece shit together Lost style.
-
How the hell can something like this happen? That made no sense whatsoever. What a bummer.
-
"I'm off to bed where presumably I'll have half of a dream twice."
-
Can't wait for this!
-
hated SGU? Herc, baby.
-
Youtube of the missing parts: http://www.youtube.com/user/scarlettatel#p/u/6/bOPgVGD4WCQ
As usual, take out the spaces. Thanks again Cartoon Network and crappy cable company! Just like the constant screw ups with Robot Chicken and the rest of your shows, only even better this time. Usually it's just a few seconds of flicker, or darkness, or the sound randomly going out. And you wonder why we BT everything. Sheesh. -
give it a talkback god dammit!
-
Sweet!
-
With that line and the numerous mutilations of MARVEL COMICS #1, you know there's going to be a lot of guys at DC Comics laughing their asses off this morning.
-
Looking at Dean screaming in the background.
Sgt Hatred: "When the going gets tough, he always gets going!" LOL -
Oct 19, 2009 8:24:04 AM CDT
Oh you gotta love the part with Hank holding the comic!
by hollywoodhellraiser
As soon as he touches it, the value starts to drop really fast!
-
you forgot to mention that when svelte brock shows up, he's in full sphinx regalia!
-
Played fine in the heartland.
-
Cable companies constantly tell us how important it is that we watch their shows live (still dunno why when I'm not a Nielson) but then AS pulls a stunt like this.
At least they had the decency to post the FULL fucking episode on their website already. Asshats.
I might D/L it anyway just to spite them, this is the perfect example for why we need torrents. Fucktards. -
I purposely left out a few details, because I was lazy, and after I was done, I wanted a little surprise here & there. Two birds, one stone...
and you guys are welcome, btw :) -
it's a moneymaker :D
I am pleased as punch with each (now 3rd) subsequent viewing. -
Seems to look alot more like Space ghost then Superman.
-
characters listed in Marvel Comics/intros of Brock Samson is last nights episode:
The Human Torch = Brock; getting toasted & fused w/Helper after 24 is blown to bits.
- The Angel = Brock, at the end when Han states that Hitler was "stabbed by an Angel".
- The Sub-Mariner = Brock, who arives via a-not-too-secure canal leading into the fountain of the Venture compound.
Jungle Terror = Brock, who dredges through miles of swamp to get Helper surgically removed. Also, terror = impending handgrenade doom upon failure/betrayal.
Burning Rubber = Brock leaving the cabin in the woods & getting his life back.
The Masked Raider = Brock attempting recon under the guise of a ski mask in the air vents of Molotov's headquarters.
Kazar the Great = Brock (and hunters, if you will) realizes all is not as it seems, and begins his journey to become great again...
"What?! What is this crap?! Where's Batman?!?!"
Giant Boy Detective = Hitler the Dog
"It was... It was an Angel."
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Cujo, The Boys From Brazil (again), so many shades of other awesome films & stories...
Love it :)
-
And was still confused as hell. I'm not a avid viewer, but what the fuck.
-
the Captain Sunshine episode is apparently airing next week
this week, we actually had quite a bit of Brock Samson
it didn't directly answer many questions but it *did* move the plot along (answers to some questions sometimes raised just further questions, but unlike the Cylons on BSG, the writers here honestly seem to "have a plan")
it was a Tarantino-style mashup where the episode ran out of order, last scene first, or the same scenes from different perspectives -
Ted said last week he wanted to take back Cartoon Network and run Captain Planet in Prime Time. I wonder did he hack in and mess up the episode to drive down ratings? As far a super-villiany goes, it sounds like something The Monarch would do. Off to the internet to catch the rest.------later-----m
-
Herc and Pennsy faint.
-
"Wishbone."
-
I disagree. The best parts of this episode involved Dr. Orpheus, (in that Belloq outfit!). Plus, Jesus Christ... what's up with Petty Officer Hatred in a blue Venture jumpsuit?
-
and it shows.
-
and that was the fuckin shit
-
You saw the beginning, then they showed some scenes from near the end and everything after that was fairly chonological. The whole Brock story was chronological.
-
Other than the obvious weekly ones, there was spider-helper and the invisible guy being taken down with paint balls. Any other obvious references I missed? It's been a long time since I watched those xenophobic white supremacist cartoons.
-
One very confusing VB premier.
-
To make Kevin Smith's head explode after the 120th comic book reference.
-
and i guess it worked.
-
Just because they take over a year to get these seasons done doesn't mean we should have to go online to figure out the fuck just happened. I love you VB, you're the smartest show on TV, you don't need to overdo it.
-
apparently everyone needs a straight a to b to c type story line so...
Quit fucking around. -
Did anyone else feel a little bit queasy when they coldly killed HELPER?
-
Hi there ! Thank for sharing.
