UPDATED!! Hercules Has Seen Next Week’s Hilarious, Extra-Gay And Samson-Free Second Episode Of THE VENTURE BROS.!!

Published at:  Oct 19, 2009 7:25:39 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

UPDATE!! The Cartoon Network just informed me I actually saw and reviewed 4.2 below instead of tonight's 4.1. I've no idea why!

Original post:

I am – Hercules!!

Notes on the brilliant fourth-season premiere of “The Venture Bros.” premiering Sunday:

* Episode’s first line: “Ah ha ha ha ha ha!! Time to pay the piper, Venture!!”

* Brock is still absent and Rusty has taken on a surprising (and ill-chosen!) replacement.

* Hank, now bereft of spare clone bodies, has evolved his look. He’s also offered a job opportunity.

* A new and highly Superman-like character, Captain Sunshine, is introduced quite early on.

* Sunshine belongs to a Justice League-like organization whose members include Barbeque and Ghost Robot. All members have unexpected night jobs.

* The death of henchman 24 has changed henchman 21 in a profound and unexpected way.

* We learn Billy Quizboy is now 37.

Six of the funniest lines that won’t completely spoil the episode for you reside in invisotext.

* “I half-expect it to have Popeye cartoons on it when I peel it off my thigh.”

* “Hey, missing a couple of zeroes there, Oprah!”

* “Playtime’s over! Time to get your gay little ass home!”

* “Suggested application is to the buttocks and inner thigh.”

* “You know the rules, Scorpio. He’s off limits during training.”

* “Just kidding!!”

11:59 p.m. Sunday. Cartoon Network.

Time to use the DVR, because unfortunately I get up really early.

Ivana Cocktease maybe Brock's replacement, or she and her new team are? One can hope to continue Rusty's sexual frustration and angst.

Dean and Treanna? Maybe some more direction there.

Um... well.... if you saw the trailer that they showed at comic-con then it's pretty darn obvious that Hatred is the new bodyguard. Granted I haven't seen the episode yet, but the surprise would be if it WEREN'T Hatred, not if it WERE Hatred.

    New Bodygaurd

    by wandering_prophet

In the teaser, it kind of looked like 21 would become the new Venture bodygaurd, wasn't that him in the D&D getup shaking hands with Venture, we've already seen that he seems to be going through a weird geek-Rambo phase after 24's death, it would be an interesting take on the character. Technically Hatred couldn't be the new bodygaurd because of his court order, remember.

even with the lack of the Monarch, this was one of the better episodes of the series. Hank's new look/attitude is awesome. I love how Dr. Venture cares less and less whether the boys realize they are clones. Love giant spider H.E.L.P.eR. and One day I will own a bulldog named Hitler. Is that socially unacceptable? Too soon? Best show on TV.

    by tallscott

Wow I guess the internet has to hate something ya know. Season 3 had some of the greatest eps of the series. ORB and The Lepidopterists were classics plus it had a lot of Venture Lore. And thats something I really like. Saw the opener. It was confusing at first then it started to gel together..Brilliant! The comic book price tag joke was a nice payoff and I guess we are going to get into some OSI-Sphinx stuff this season. The genius of the show is that Doc and Jackson have created a world that you almost feel you can step into. And thats the sign of classic fiction.

Heh, I thought Herc was having fun with us

    by brandloyalist

Last line in your review was "Just kidding"!

The episode itself was as out of sequence as Herc's review. I guess the decreasing CGC value helps reveal the actual order of events... what an awesome and hilarious device!

Seems the whole episode was a long homage to Marvel Comics #1. Was Brock's escape a reference to a real panel in the comic? "Look it up on the internet and you'll see that what I tell you true", 21 says. Well I did, and the cover looks just like that and does indeed mention Kazar the Great and 12 Pages of Jungle Adventure. Effing great premier!

    An homage?

    by subtitles_off

At one point they use the comic to scoop up dog poop!As usual, I had to watch it twice to get any of the stuff BrandLoyalist pegs. I thought it was alternate universes and time travel, but following the "decreasing value method" I pieced it together the second time. This show is great!

    **SPOILERS** A 95 % Chronological Breakdown of Tonight's Episode

    by the shyster

    - Aftermath; Season 3

    - Samson wakes up in OSI (SHED) facility, overhears doctors talking (they speak of memory wipes & attitude adjustment, but are actually referring to Sgt. Hatred, who is revealed to have been a part of the agency, but went traitor) Samson escapes with Helper's head fused to his chest.

    - Agents occupy the Venture compound from last seasons aftermath, everyone is under surveillance. Brock arrives under stealth and meets with Dean in secret to pass his comm link to Dr. Venture. Hank arrives & doesn't believe him at first, but sees the comm and realizes he IS still alive...

    - In a not-too-distant-jungle, Herr Doctor supposedly secures Hitler's blood... in dog, meanwhile Samson arrives to have underworld surgery performed to have Helper separated. With help from a grenade in his mouth. The procedure works & Samson mails back Helper & some personal effects.

    - Nazis arrive @ the compound to seek Dr. Venture's cloning expertise, where they reveal the dog holds the blood grail of the Fuhrer. They tell him he has no more than 8 months to create a bouncing baby Hitler from him (supposedly Hitler, or someone closely related to him, screwed a pooch)

    - 21 seeks to have Dr. Venture clone 24, and offers his Marvel Comics issue #1 ($500,000) as collateral/payment. Rusty quickly shoo's him off, and gives the comic to Hank. The value decreases with each passing second... 24's finger is left behind in a cooler, and the X-1 is loaned/borrowed at some point.

    - The package arrives, and Helper is reset. Samson goes into hiding...

    ~ interlude ~

    - While staying with Steve & Bigfoot for months in their cabin in the woods, Samson is enormously fat & soft (with full beard), and realizes this when he decides to leave & seek out revenge on those who wronged him... starting with Molotov & Hunter Gathers.

    - Dean field strips a handgun for over an hour, with expert precision. Hatred attempts to win over Hank in Samson's absence to.... bloody results. Helper 2.0 is revealed by Dr. Venture from the newly returned head... now with spider legs!

    - While attempting to get the (very heavy) drop on Molotov & Gathers, Samson runs afoul of a Sphinx agent in the air ducts, and is shot by Molotov while goading Gathers. Samson fall out a window, bounces from a palm tree & is scooped up by Sphinx agents.

    - Under questioning, the Sphinx agents ask Brock about his motive & who he's working for. After cooperating to the best of his ability, he is revealed to have been tied up with Hunter Gathers, who goes only to slowly reveal his true role to Brock... leader of a band of Sphinx/ex-OSI agents, full male, sans sex-change & knowing dick.

    ~interlude ~

    - The X-1 returns with the former 21 & his LARP crew, the Orchard St. Wolfpac; the jet has been heavily graffitied by the Monarch's crew. 21 seeks to have 24 brought back by Orpheus (a necromancer) while Hitler the dog begins to show the great evil in him. "Uhhh... What comic were you reading?" Meanwhile, the Nazis arrive to collect their former fuhrer with negative results...

    - The boys, Orpheus & Hatred plot saving Doc... in the bathroom. The Golden Dagger is revealed to be the only thing to kill Hitler... again.

    - Sniper nest by Sgt. Hatred & Hank in attempt to save Dr. Venture from Nazis; Dean has lost the Golden Dagger, while Hitler is supposedly inside of (or has become dog) - Hatred orders Helper 2.0 to destroy Hitler, while Dean attempts a save & Orpheus attempts to quell the situation with a spell that goes awry. Nazis are taken out by stray lightning/magic, and go Raiders all over Rusty.

    - All that remains is to destroy Hitler the dog, who is a bout to make a sneak attack on Dean, until it is foiled by a newly svelte & streamlined... Brock Samson. Samson wrestles the dog & stabs him with the secretly acquired Golden Dagger, and can now cross stabbing Hitler off of his cool things to do list. He makes Hank swear to secrecy that he is aware of his status & wishes him well, knowing he will see him again...

    Fin.

Man, sometimes I can't help but feel they make us work too damn hard watching this show. I love it to death, but I'd like to enjoy it without having to piece shit together Lost style.

As usual, take out the spaces. Thanks again Cartoon Network and crappy cable company! Just like the constant screw ups with Robot Chicken and the rest of your shows, only even better this time. Usually it's just a few seconds of flicker, or darkness, or the sound randomly going out. And you wonder why we BT everything. Sheesh.

    Dear Adult Swim...

    by hairy nutsack

Cable companies constantly tell us how important it is that we watch their shows live (still dunno why when I'm not a Nielson) but then AS pulls a stunt like this.
At least they had the decency to post the FULL fucking episode on their website already. Asshats.
I might D/L it anyway just to spite them, this is the perfect example for why we need torrents. Fucktards.

    - The Angel = Brock, at the end when Han states that Hitler was "stabbed by an Angel".

    - The Sub-Mariner = Brock, who arives via a-not-too-secure canal leading into the fountain of the Venture compound.

The episode that aired isn't the one you described

    by _v_

the Captain Sunshine episode is apparently airing next week

this week, we actually had quite a bit of Brock Samson

it didn't directly answer many questions but it *did* move the plot along (answers to some questions sometimes raised just further questions, but unlike the Cylons on BSG, the writers here honestly seem to "have a plan")

it was a Tarantino-style mashup where the episode ran out of order, last scene first, or the same scenes from different perspectives

The West Coast Feed Botched by Ted Turner?

    by mgthedj

Ted said last week he wanted to take back Cartoon Network and run Captain Planet in Prime Time. I wonder did he hack in and mess up the episode to drive down ratings? As far a super-villiany goes, it sounds like something The Monarch would do. Off to the internet to catch the rest.------later-----m

    It wasn't that disjointed chronologically

    by hst666

You saw the beginning, then they showed some scenes from near the end and everything after that was fairly chonological. The whole Brock story was chronological.

Other than the obvious weekly ones, there was spider-helper and the invisible guy being taken down with paint balls. Any other obvious references I missed? It's been a long time since I watched those xenophobic white supremacist cartoons.
