    I Could See A Leon Spin-Off

    by crow3711

Only problem is what they would really is good writers, not just Leon as a character. It'd be funny to get a black version of Curb, with Leon as the lead, but you'd still need LD and his writers to come up with the episodes. It'd be tough to pull off, but I'd watch it, that's for sure.

The luckiest person alive is Jerry Seinfeld. Too many folk give him credit when he hit the lottery hooking up w/ Larry David. Also, Jerry was surrounded by all-star caliber talent. Everyone from Newman to the Johnny Cochran characters.

    by saluteyourshorts

To say there is not something magnetic and ridiculously amusing about Jerry's delivery of jokes and lines, his reactions, his whole self - even if the content came from Larry - would be wrong and a disservice to Mr. Seinfeld.

Larry doesn't write the episodes -- he outlines them, saying what plot points he wants to happen in what scenes and creates general ideas of what the set up is, and then every one of the actors in the scenes improvise. It's amazing.

I think the argument with Danson was a bit much. That's been the problem this year - the forced argument. Too much arguing for the sake of arguing.
Having said that, this was a hilarious episode. Wendy Wheelchair and Denise Handicapped indeed!

    Loved The Danson Argument!

    by crow3711

I thought that was extremely Larry and Danson, not forced at all. Some of the stuff has been forced this season, like him making Sammy stop singing, but I didn't think that was. And who would have ever thought Rosie O'Donnell would end up being one of my favorite guest characters of all-time. The two of them had me laughing good.

    Worst season yet

    by jimstansel

Curb is one of my favorite shows. I count down the days until it comes on. But I gotta say, this season has blown ass. Yes it's funnier than most other comedies, but as CURB goes, it's fucking stupid this season. Larry has become a caricature of himself and the show is just over the top ridiculous now with forced situations and storylines you can see coming a mile away. What made this show so fucking brilliant for the first 3 seasons in particular was that he was simply a neurotic guy that so many people (especially Jews like me) could relate to. He'd get into situations that, as uncomfortable and screwed up as they were, you could see yourself getting into. Now every situation seems like a far fetched and forced and characters behave in ways just to move the story along (Jeff sleeping with Crazy Funkhouser). And Larry has become a catch phrase spewing character (preettty prettty) like you'd see in the shows Curb helped kill.

Tonight's show had a FUCKING BRILLIANT premise and Larry ruined it by once again acting like a complete retard in between any high notes that were to be found. Getting a in a fight with Rosie at a crowded restaurant? Seriously???

    Yeah...

    by mraig

This season has not lived up to the (extremely high) standard set by previous seasons of the show. I don't know why, but it seems almost inevitable for this to happen to comedies that have been on the air more than about 5 years. The humor gets more and more broad, the characters become less three-dimensional and more caricatures of their former selves, and in some indefinable way the "magic" that the earliest and best seasons of the show had is gone or diluted. I literally cannot think of a single example of a long-running situation comedy that this didn't eventually happen to (off the top of my head: The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Friends, Roseanne, The Office, Malcolm in the Middle, Murphy Brown, King of the Hill, etc.) Sometimes I think shows like Arrested Development are lucky (in terms of their reputation) to get canceled while still in their prime.

Anyway, with all that said, Curb has strayed somewhat from its early greatness, but it is certainly still worth watching. I didn't much care for last week's episode, but I have to admit I laughed a lot during tonight's. As Curb has done throughout its run, it borrowed a Seinfeld joke or plot (main character dates a woman in a wheelchair), but I loved Larry unsuccessfully try to make out and then have sex with a woman who was (maybe?) paralyzed from the waist down, and the reactions of forced politeness from everyone once they realized Denise was in a wheelchair. The moment when it cut from Larry talking to Wendy to him wheeling her into the party--as if it made perfect sense to just replace one date in a wheelchair with another--was hilarious. And we still haven't seen much of the Seinfeld plot this season. I have high hopes.

(By the way, I've got to agree with GQtaste about Jerry Seinfeld being the world's luckiest man. I certainly won't deny that he's a gifted comedian and probably would have been successful with or without Larry David, but the show and the name "Seinfeld" transcend mere success. "Seinfeld" and the voice and comic style it created will always be part of any short list of twentieth century American television, comedy, or pop culture. You can't say it's due to any one factor--the great writing was complimented by great acting and perfect casting from both the big and small roles--but I have a hard time imagining any of this would be true if Larry David hadn't been involved. Compare the past ten years of Curb Your Enthusiasm to the past ten years of the careers of anyone else involved in the show.

    Seinfeld isn't just lucky...

    by bizarrojerry

The guy's still a very funny stand-up. I've seen him recently and he was great. And don't forget Larry was not a part of a significant chunk of the "Seinfeld" series. He left after a few years in. And it's doubtful that show would've gone anywhere without Seinfeld as the guy to build it around. Some may forget he was a recognizable stand-up at the time.As far as the creation of the whole series, yeah, Larry was key and is probably a better writer. Of course Jerry got the attention because he was the star. But I assume even Jerry doesn't consider himself any great actor. That's probably a major reason he didn't really appear on "Curb" up til now. He's not an improv actor. But to say he was just lucky? Sort of unfair. They both were lucky to connect with each other.

Thought last night's was pretty weak...

    by fa_tass_dinomolester

It sort-of went nowhere after the first ten minutes, although the scene of Larry trying to carry Denise up the steps was priceless. Also, I really wish the Seinfeld cast was much more present in the season. When Larry did the the "Producers" arc, there was stuff about it an the entire season...same with the arc where he opened a restaurant with Ted Dansen and Michael York. I guess Larry's ego won't let the Seinfeld thing take up too much of his show...too bad. Still looking forward to the rest of the season, though.

but so what? It's still funnier than 95% of anything else on tv. And last night's episode had me rolling. Great new stuff with dating handicapped chicks, plus all the classic schtick. BizarroJerry, you're wrong. Larry David was there

    by coughlins laws

the vast majority of the series. He only didn't do the last 2 sub-par seasons but did the finale. So, he did 140 out of the 180 shows. He was the guy behind all the classic episodes: The Chinese Restaurant, Master of My Domain, The Pilot Storyline, The Marine Biologist, The Soup Nazi, etc, etc, etc. Can you even remember a storyline from the last 2 seasons? Watch the behind the scenes documentaries on the first 3 Seasons Seinfeld DVDs. Jerry himself only co-wrote wiht Larry on the first season and a couple of the second season. From the Second Season till the Seventh Season, Larry wrote screenplay or was behind the storyline of almost every single episode...As far as whoever said this season isn't up to par, I'd say it's going better than Season 5 or Season 2. The first 2 episodes were hilarious. The Reunion show wasn't that funny but it was great to see the Cast back together. This episode didn't start off great and I don't like Rosie O'Donnell, but the ending was beyond funny to me. It was classic. He screwed up and had TWO handicapped dates at the same time so he panics and tries to hide one in the closet. I laughed SOOOO hard. Plus, it's WAYYY toe early to start ranking seasons. We still don't know how the Reunion shows will go...

    Coughlins...

    by jimstansel

To each his/her own I suppose! The episodes this season are just making me groan. Like I said before, characters are just doing things to move the story along now. Like why the hell would Larry even attempt to put the moves on the woman after such a terrible date? And as silly as the montage was, are we really to believe the man is completely retarded now? Yes, he was ridiculous in the early years too -- but mostly in the situations he'd get himself into, not the way he behaved. He's just another sitcom character now who falls more on the slapstick end of things.

My least favorite seasons are 4 (soooooo much potential, but again, felt forced and too zany), 5 (everything mostly sucked but the ski lift ep), and this one. I actually LOVED last season and thought LD had gotten his magic back, but alas, it doesn't appear that way.

I agree about last night's ending. Putting her in the closest was classic Larry David. Running up the stairs only to get pummeled again by Rosie O' Donnell? Not so much. He should've cut to black right and ran the theme song right after Denise found Wendy and and the two compared the names Larry gave to him. Ending on "Denise Handicapped?" would've been the way to end with a bang IMO.

JimStansel, I agree with alot of what you're saying

    by coughlins laws

and agree with your list of episodes that are great. But you really didn't like Season 4? I thought it was great. He was faking heart attacks, looking at black guy's dicks to see how big they are, giving a black guy in a suit his keys to go get his car, getting in fights with David Schwimmer's Dad, getting in fights with Ben Stiller, etc. I thought Season 4 ws the best overall Season. Season 1 started off great but not all the shows were good. Season 2 had some gems but not all the shows were good. I think 3 and 4 were the best. Season 5 had 3 great episodes and a bunch of sub-par ones. This season so far had to weak episodes but I thought the first 2 episodes were the best in years. But like I said, the jury's still out. I think we're off to a promising start, even though they have blown there first cameo guest of the entire series, (sorry, Christian Slater, but it wasn't your fault, they just didn't give you much too do...)

    by jimstansel

I will say that of any of the seasons, S4 has gotten better with time. Still not my favorite though! I think unfortunately me being such a huge Mel Brooks fan set my expectations wayyyy too high on that one. I thought 'ole Mel was underused and was bummed he ended up playing the straight guy most of the time.

That said, the episode with the mentally challenged guys is easily one of my faves. I used to see one of those guys almost every week around LA and get so excited each time just cause he was in Curb. Turns out we hang out at a lot of the same places, go figure...haha!
