Oddsmakers Pick Lying Oilman Russell To Win SURVIVOR 19!!

Published at:  Oct 15, 2009 8:59:30 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Something from my bulging Thursday emailbox! Interesting that Russell Hantz and Jaison Robinson are ranked one and two even though they’re on the tribe that keeps losing! How quickly we forget that holders of hidden immunity idols tend to get blindsided!

Bookmaker.com CEO Mickey Richardson has tasked his odds makers to determine who will win Survivor Samoa and the Amazing Race.

ODDS TO WIN SURVIVOR SAMOA

1) RUSSELL HANTZ (oilman) +475

2) JAISON ROBINSON (law student) +500

3) ERIK CARDONA (bartender) +575

4) DAVE BALL (fitness instructor) +600

5) NATALIE WHITE (pharmaceutical sales) +625

6) KELLY SHARBAUGH (hairstylist) +650

7) MONICA PADILLA (law student) +750

8) RUSSELL SWAN (attorney) +750

9) SHANNON "SHAMBO" WATERS (ex-marine) +750

10) BRETT CLOUSER (t-shirt designer) +800

11) ASHLEY TRAINER (spa sales) +800

12) LAURA MORETT (office manager) +850

13) ELIZABETH "LIZ" KIM (attorney) +900

14) MICK TRIMMING (doctor) +900

15) JOHN FINCHER (rocket scientist) +1000

Bookmaker.com has little use for eggheads! An attorney, a doctor and a scientist are deemed least likely to win. And why is Shambo ranked so high?

With “Amazing Race,” bookmaker.com just ranks everybody in the order they last crossed the finish line. I believe I could do that!

ODDS TO WIN THE AMAZING RACE

1) SAM & DAN +275
2) FLIGHT TIME & BIG EASY +350
3) BRIAN & ERICKA +400
4) GARY & MATT +425
5) MEGHAN & CHEYNE +500
6) LANCE & KERI +525
7) MIKA & CANAAN +600

I've emulated everything he does and last night emptied the Poland Springs bottle and burned my girlfriends socks in the fireplace. He's right, no one in the house knows what the fuck is going on.

Survivor has a history of gambling sites reveal the winner, or close to it, so I try to be careful about what I read online.

    Survivor

    by cilohocla

I really hope Russell (the white one) doesn't win. He's too sure of himself and at one point those who are too sure of themselves are the ones who get kicked off. I'm hoping he's the one who has to have medical take him out next week.

so, how can he be final two, if he was also filming the other one?

So the evil guy stopped being evil?

    by tall_boy66

Haven't watched this season (only survivor I watched week-to-week was Season 1 & 2 & All Stars), but my friends kept up with it and they said this guy was a dick for the sake of being a dick. And now he stopped? Pourquois?

  • Because these shows are taped beforehand and hundreds of people are involved in the production all somebody would have to do is wait for somebody who looses to be worth a lot and bet against them. There is no SEC and no reporting requirement so doing this stuff with insider information isn't very risky to your reputation/job

Russell won't win for two reasons

    by cobb05

First off, his tribe is getting picked off one by one. So by the time the merge happens, the other tribe will take him out. So it doesn't matter how great he thinks he is, he'll be taken out.
Second, he played too hard. There's two parts to Survivor, pre merge and post merge. He's playing a little too hard, intimidating and showing his cards to his tribe. The way it's going, they'll probably merge with only him and the other two guys on his tribe. Both know that he has the idol. So there's not much he can do. His only move is to take either the women or men on the other team and pick off the other gender. I just don't think Russell's that good to pull this off. I mean right now it's no big deal cause his tribe isn't going to get rid of him cause they need him for challenges. But when he gets to the other tribe, he becomes a huge threat and he'll obviously start making deals with everyone and they will compare notes and take him out. If he makes it to the final 2, then he deserves to win.

Sucks they voted off Ashley ...

    by itchy

she was well on her way to joining the group of chicks that got hotter and hotter the more they starved and the dirtier they got ... along with Stephanie, Colleen, Ambuh and Jenna. As for Russell, no way he wins - he's on the loser tribe, which makes it exponentially harder to make it to the final 2 because they are so vastly out numbered.

    Russell

    by himbo

I've enjoyed every minute he's onscreen. I've also really enjoyed the "in your face" conflict happening everywhere this season. He might be able to exploit the underlying tension in team-purle after the merge. There is some hate on that team.
I was sorry to see Ashley leave, but when she tanked the challenge, her fate was sealed.
As for egghead/survivor, Bob the HS physics teacher won Gabon. Very egghead. Attorney's and law students NEVER WIN (in the seasons I've seen) but then also NEVER QUIT. I'm sure Survivor sucks, but law school sucks sooooo bad.
Filmspringfield has a point. There is no point labeling the headline on the splash page with *SPOILER WARNING* when the spoiler is immediately adjacent. Why not print "learn who oddsmakers favor to win." And if you haven't read Probst blogs on the entertainment weekly website, you should. He writes them as he watches the finished episodes.

Funny how Bald Russell dropped his "Liz has to go" stance

    by spyguy

But I guess intentionally weakening your tribe and losing challenge after challenge isn't working so well as a strategy, is it? After tanking two challenges back-to-back, Ashley was obviously the one who needed to instead of Liz, so Bald Russell made the right move instead of trying his "She's a threat, so she has to go" gameplan again.

They don't actually film two Survivors...

    by em_tee_em

...overlapping. Jeff isn't rushing back and forth between two separate editions. Not even when they're in the same place. Russell could easily be in the final two of the current season and be on All-Stars much the same way Rupert, Stephanie, Bobby Jon, James and Amanda have all appeared on consecutive editions. (Yes, I know only Amanda made it to a final jury before appearing again the next season).

    How Russell can win

    by olafgladnbig

Russell wins if his team goes in to a merge severely short handed and the other tribe sees him as no threat. Then he sets to pitting them against each other, sneaking through while they destroy each other. Gets in with the right group uses his immunity idol to get him that extra step and nobody will vote against the underdog who made it all that way. It's a hard path, and I sure wouldnt vote him as favorite to win but it is possible.

Excellent, I'm gonna put my life savings on Ashley

    by big jim

then sit back and watch last night's episode.Either nobody likes Ashley or, despite what they said and what we saw, the tribe did get a chance to strategize before the vote. I was expecting a more scattered vote.I still think Russell's plan is a poor one. Decimating his tribe before the merge does seem self-destructive. He is lucky his tribe-mates are too honest (or too dumb) and, at the slightest inkling of doubt and mistrust in him, feel the need to talk to him about it. They let him know they don't trust him - how is that a good move? We did see last season 3 players merge with a strong tribe, only to cause that tribe to split and implode. It can be done. What I don't get is how many times does Russell's tribe need to hear someone (usually the person they are voting out) talk about their secret alliance with Russell before the rest of them start to wonder how iron-clad, written in stone, their "secret alliance" with him is?As for the Amazing Race, isn't that the order the teams came in on the last leg? Those poker girls are more lucky than good. Twice now they've been "The last team to arrive. However, ..."

Screwing your own tribe isn't how you win

    by kirsan

Russel's tribe will go to the merge so far down he'll not have a chance. Fucking with people and trash talking them is easy compared to being on the losing tribe and forming alliances within the winning tribe.

He'll be a threat in the individual challenges after the merge and he'll be gone unless he wins and wins and plays the immunity idol just right.

    I agree with Kirsan

    by johnnyangel

I don't see how sabotaging your own tribe pre-merge can be a good strategy. It's possible to win from the minority tribe, I think someone did last year, but only if the majority tribe are a bunch of idiots.

It's already been leaked that Mick, Natalie and Russell are the final 3, although which one wins is unknown. Russell is also going to be on the next season, Heroes Vs. Villains. Jaison is about to be eliminated in the next two episodes.
