Mr. Beaks Has A Pair Of AWAY WE GO Blu-Rays Up For Grabs!
Beaks here...
And the winners are... Clint Gooch and Christina Chimi. Congrats!

One of this year's most pleasant surprises was Sam Mendes's AWAY WE GO, a big-hearted comedy about a happily unmarried couple erratically searching for the ideal place to raise their soon-to-be-born child. I never thought a control-freak, seemingly misanthropic director like Mendes would be able to make a film with such warmth, but he completely gave himself over to the soulful screenplay from Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida and turned in what is easily his best movie to date (featuring great performances from an ensemble cast which includes John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph, Allison Janney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Paul Schneider, Catherine O'Hara and many more).
AWAY WE GO is the kind of film you want to share with friends and family, so I'm thrilled Focus Features sent over two (2) Blu-rays for me to ship out to a couple of lucky AICN readers. Want one? All you have to do is send an email to awaywegoblu@gmail.com before Noon PDT on Monday, October 19th (be sure to include your mailing address). Winners will be announced right here in this article.
In case you missed 'em, here are links to my interviews with Mendes, Krasinski and Rudolph from earlier this year.

first ever first
-
don't even have a blu-ray player
-
I'm tempted to just buy the bluray online but I do want to see it in a cinema. Stupid delayed releases.
-
Love that balloon kid. Even though he didn't fly in the balloon.
-
This is the TB where it applies the most.

by supercowbell5thecowbellhasspoken
what i miss? i mean twilight is for complete retards but im sure the talkback was funny.

I thought it was cute and nice, but Road to Perdition was masterful, I don't think this film comes close to approaching Road's greatness.
-
Overall not a bad movie, but better than American Beauty? Really? Road to Perdition is also amazing and much better.
Jarhead and Revolutionary Road also better -
I'd post in a TB about him any day!
-
I came back to see anyone answered the question I asked a few hours ago, and the friggin' TB's gone. And it was a good one.
-
not my question
-
about the New Moon tb, I directed someone to the review right after I read it and they got back to me and said it wasn't there
-
this movie looks good, and having not seen it I can't say ofr sure but Road to Perdition is an amazing film that gets better with age. Fantastic performances from Newman, Hanks, Craig
-
i really went in expecting to enjoy this movie -- like maybe it would be in spirit the antithesis to "revolutionary road" (which i really, really liked), but my girlfriend and i barely made it past 40 minutes. it was just so damn cloying and -- worst of all -- not funny whatsoever. and beaks really thinks this is mendes' best film? i'm no fan of mendes, really, but "road to perdition" and the aforementioned "revolutionary road" were both vastly superior, "jarhead" just okay and "american beauty" an overrated piece of shit.
-
Meh..why not try? Missed this one at the theaters and was going to put this on my netflix queue, but if I can get a free copy via AICN that would be cool.
-
Just because it's Mendes it get's hyped by a bunch of pretentious media 'luvvies' Personally found it incredibly plodding and dull, far better indie movies out there worthy of such critical plaudits.
-
but also a predictable and forgettable little movie that stretches its cliches and stereotypes to far. nevermind i had a good time watching them. but definitely the weaker works (from both of the directors).
-
Wait... they are giving it away, nevermind.

If 2x BluRays is all it takes to get a story on your site these days, people are surely going to stop bothering to advertising. (You know what you say about editorial having twice the power of ads.) So this is nice and all, but next time I think you should ask for 10. By the way, I hate Mendes as a movie director, but on the strength of all your positive reviews I'm gonna see this film. If it's not as good as you say I'm coming back to kick your ass.

Everything in it was contrived and over-scripted. I felt like every performance was hokey (with the exception of Maya) and leaving the film I was floored that this was getting the praise that it was. Far from slick and clever, no moment in the film came that wasn't pounding the pavement like the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man. The only scene I actually enjoyed was the opening, everything after that was practically paint by numbers: 1) Do we have our quirky parents? CHECK! 2) Over the top new-agers?! CHECK! 3) Ridiculous WAY OVER THE TOP family with idiot dad? CHECK!
Awful film, made worse by dishonest reviewers. With the subtlety of a knock-knock joke. /rant -
E-mail sent.

This movie tried way too hard for that quirky, poignant, functionally-dysfunctional thing. It felt forced. I couldn't quite connect with any of the characters. There is like this whole emerging genre w/ Little Miss Sunshine (good, but overrated) and the Wes Anderson movies (stopped caring after Tennenbaums)...and it's getting tired. Or at least I am.
-
not bad, but not great. Finished it last night. why hasnt anyone made a movie called "hipster" about douchebags drinking PBR and listening to arcade fire/MGMT?whatever new hot boring band is on at the time?
-
pick BCP!
-
I guess maybe we have to wait for this to reappear at the top of the page.
-
Typical. Considering this site posts about 1 new thing a week. Bullshit site. joblo is so much better. http://sickpicks.blogspot.com/
-
if BCP will get a new blu ray. sigh.
-
Over 24 hours past the deadline and no winners announced? What's up Beaks?
-
gooch? wasnt that the bully on different strokes?
-
turned out to be fake this entire time. Bullshit.
