Herc’s Seen Tonight’s Armisen-Enhanced PARKS AND REC And The Season Debut Of 30 ROCK!! Plus OFFICE Wedding Outtakes!!

Published at:  Oct 15, 2009 10:52:05 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Parks and Recreation” continues a strong streak of episodes tonight with an installment titled “Sister City.”

Equipped with a Marx Bros.-ish premise, it centers on a visit by representatives of the parks department of Boraqua, Venezuela, sister city of Pawnee.

The oil-rich Boraqua delegation is disappointed to learn that government-funded prostitutes will not be a component of their visit to Pawnee, and they endlessly disparage the shoddy state of the town generally.

“Look, this is nothing personal,” one of the visitors confides. “We just think that you are weak and your city is disgusting.”

Later tonight “30 Rock” gets off to a surprisingly flat start with a Tina Fey-scripted season premiere that has Jack ordering Liz to find a new cast member – a cast member that rural viewers can relate to. They don’t actually find one, and Steve Buscemi is wasted as an oily, wildly unconvincing mole, but the end of the episode is worth catching for Jenna’s red-state-friendly tennis commercial and a Fey-Baldwin segue to “The Jay Leno Show.”

Deleted scenes from “Niagara,” last week’s wedding-centric episode of “The Office”:

“Parks And Recreation”: 8:30 p.m. Thursday. NBC.
“The Office”: 9 p.m. Thursday. NBC.
“30 Rock”: 9:30 p.m. Thursday. NBC.

Community... Very well written show that has ALOT of promise. I went to community college I think they caught the spirit

Parks... The second season is a lot better than number 1.

Office... Should I say "I see a fin in the water?" This season has not been good at all, except the wedding. Hopefully now that they got that out of the way, it will go back to the greatness it once had.

30 rock... I can't wait for this. Funny show with great performances.

    Aubrey Plaza bugs me

    by bass ackwards

The character just feels like such a cliche, I'm warming up to the show, but not her character so much. I really wish they wouldn't have gone the mock-doc angle with thus shoe though, it's not as natural as the Office and there's just too many times where the joke is artificial because they had to develop too much artifice to make it play as a documentary. Or maybe I just houldbt think about it as much. Community is rockin though, every week has something that just sends me off laughing ("this is now way to teach accounting!" "will they do stuff to my butt?...Will I get more if I let them do stuff to me butt?...That's fine I'll do it."). And I can't wait for 30 Rock.

From Daily Variety, 3 minutes ago:

    Lynch rides "Balloon" for Universal

Eric Lynch, also known to Howard Stern fans as "Eric the Midget," has signed into Universal Pictures' film "Balloon Boy."

Based on real event, Eric the Midget will play a 6 year old boy from Colorado who flies with balloons, and is accidentally mistaken for floating 50 miles in the air.

30 ROCK is for armchair potatoes who wanna think

    by thegreatwhatzit

they're adults (the same ones who likely presumed that Jay Ward cartoons--e.g. BULLWINKLE--were Saturday morning filler). Nope. 30 ROCK is a vanity show that has already sunk. NBC tried to shove Tina Fey up the media's ass--but the public isn't buying it, the press coverage has eroded. Insert an abridged cut of ABBOTT AND COSTELLO IN THE FOREIGN LEGION, withing the same time slot, and the ratings will improve. But nobody cares about a sitcom that pairs an average-looking "Jane" (whose political rants have been immutably predictable, hence unfunny) with an abusive father. Wow, can't miss, huh? Tracy Morgan always appeared to be searching for his lines (his timing is zippo, no exposition); and his recent rant anout about former SNL castmates is juvenile (um, Tracy, you need the work more than they do--how does the Sci-Fi Channel reimburse you for hosting their puppet show ("Scare Tactics")? Maybe with six-packs? Just curious.

Comedy in TV is the fucking best right now. Lets face it we all got different taste, some people even like Two and A Half Men (though I've never met you). And comedy in TV is probably the best its ever been since maybe before I was born. But there are three networks spewing out great comedy, Fox - Fam Guy/American Dad/Simpsons are all decent (hate it if you will they work for those who like it). ABC - Modern Family, Cougar Club and Gary Unmarried (and maybe the middle haven't seen it?) NBC - 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Rec and Community Cable - South Park, Sunny, Nip/Tuck. While HBO has nothing right now (bored to death is too much like the title). CBS has HIMYM which is a show, and when it brings back Rules of Engagement (if it does?) then it can come join the comedy party. But I mean come on! When have we had this many GREAT for some, decent (even if you don't like some shows they are fucking half way decent) which is better then just complete shit with nothing good on.

    by loose_seal

It had the best episode last night, followed (surprisingly) by Parks and Rec, then 30 Rock. The Office was okay, but extremely bland. Though the more Ed Helms per episode, the better.

Probably my favorite Community joke from last night was the shout-out to Fawlty Towers being one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. And John Oliver needs to become a regular, he's probably my second favorite character (behind Abed, whose attempts to trick Troy last night were actually taken in a less obvious direction than these kinds of plots usually are).

    by drewlicious

Everything just felt off about the episode. And I agree the "talking to the camera" jokes are lazy and hackey. Normally this show has has some great one liners but I could only count out one. It certainly doesn't help that in that particular department they got seriously schooled by "Glee" this week. Seriously, there was a whole year's worth in one episode alone. And is it just me, or did every single cast member on 30 Rock look bored?

The Nard Dog was funny as the fake mechanic...

    by mrhazard

Everything else was kinda subpar. The mafia thing was funny the first scene but got boring after a while. The main problem with The Office is that they've pretty much done everything with the main characters but they dont do much with the other characters... If you're not Michael, Jim, Pam, or Dwight, you get pretty much NO spotlight. And those characters are starting to get played out IMO... The transformation of Jim as the next Michael (an inept manager) could be interesting tho...

    Sunny in Philly.

Friday nite, came in and watched the 4 NBC shows. P&R actually was the best of the bunch, followed by Office, 30 Rock and the goddawful Community. Don't understand why so many people here like this show, but I'll say it again - I got far more laughs out of Earl than I did Community. P&R is much better this season IMO. Office is jumping the shark with Pam & Jim's marriage - this season has been weak with the exception of the wedding ep. 30 Rock was dissapointing.

Sunny is still the best show on Thursday night.
