Fresh MONTY PYTHON Wednesday & Thursday!!

Published at:  Oct 14, 2009 7:39:28 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

To celebrate their 40th anniversary and promote their excellent new six-hour IFC documentary “Monty Python: Almost The Truth” (launching Sunday), the surviving Pythons are in New York.

Tonight they’re the only guests on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” (I'm hopeful Fallon doesn’t make them play beer pong.)

Thursday they’ll reunited again at Manhattan’s Ziegfeld, which you can watch live on IFC.com if you can access a computer.

From a press release:

By visiting IFC.com or PythOnline.com Thursday, October 15 at approximately 9:00 PM EST, audiences across the U.S. can watch the historic event reuniting all five surviving members of the Monty Python team -- John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin -- as they take to the stage for a Q&A discussion with the audience. IFC will produce the live stream in conjunction with UStream, the leading internet broadcasting platform.

This event marks the first time The Pythons have been together in this manner in more than ten years. In true Python fashion, the troupe will somehow appear in its complete six-member form for their 40th reunion, although Python member Graham Chapman died in 1989. The Pythons will also accept a Special Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) honoring their outstanding contribution to film and television.

John Cleese, I notice, will be then be participating in Los Angeles’ Screenwriting Expo on Sunday afternoon.

“Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”: 12:37 p.m. Wednesday. NBC.
“Python Live Ziegfeld Reunion”: 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Thursday. IFC.com
“Monty Python: Almost The Truth”: 9 p.m. Sunday-Friday. IFC.

    python on ferguson

    by juror number 8

would be classic and make for one of ferguson's most memorable guest spots. his interviewing style and sense of humor would suit that of the pythons better than any other late night host. just writing this makes me realize how awesome that would be. oh well, a boy can dream, can't he? i guess i'll just have to suffer through fallon's monologue. besides, i think america might have a problem with python on ferguson. 6 brits on the their screen at once -- they might mistake it for masterpiece theater and change the channel.

    I was there...

    by slappymcneal

Getting to meet Gilliam outside before the show was a much bigger thrill than the show itself which was very entertaining, not for the interview segments, but for the schoolboy behavior of the Pythons. Fallon in my opinion isn't so good at "hero worship" interviews. I thought the same thing when he interviewed the Mighty Boosh guys. He's flustered and ultimately there wasn't a single topic covered that hasn't been covered in previous python interviews, and there seemed to be no effort in asking those questions in a "new way". He even asked questions that he said were taken from the IFC documentary series. That all said, Cleese does a segment 2 opening comedy bit that is mostly entertaining because of some randomness from one of the audience "contestants", Cleese and Idle both drop the f-bomb a few times, and they rehashed the "everybody talks at once" bit from the Aspen Comedy Festival reunion. Show ends with Idle singing "Bright Side of Life", which with the Roots as backup, must be some kind of first.

    by campion

maybe he was dictating.. Cool to see them back all at once. That's a weird combo of Bond movies in that blu-ray ad. Goldfinger, Moonraker, and World is Not Enough in one pack? Guess that's the only way most people would buy the last two. Damn marketing!

    by logicalnoise01

not a bad doc,m has some extra moments I hadn't heard yet. but the majority was stuff already covered by previous commentaries, specials and such. Michael Palin's python years diaries are a really great collection of python stories, recollections and other info on the various stages of the group. This doc basically is an outline of palin's diaries only his diaries get far more in depth on what the personal lives of the troupe were.

and Lorne has strong ties with Python, thus the Fallon mystery is solved. Maybe we'll see some cameos on SNL this weekend?

    3 out of 5 pythons...

    by master bruce

appeard on Countdown with Keith Olbermann earlier tonight. It was John Clesse, Terry Jones, & Terry Gilliam. If you hurry you can catch them @ the end of the 10 pm rerun or later tonight/morning in the other repeat airings. As a fan & experienced interviewer, Kieth did a fine job. It certainly sounds like he fared better than Fallon.

    The last reunion…

    by tindog42

I believe the last time all the Pythons were on stage together was in 1998 at the US Comedy Arts Festival Tribute to Monty Python in Aspen . Graham Chapman’s ashes were reportedly in an urn, which was at one point “accidently” knocked over spilling the contents all over the stage and part of the audience. Wonder if they will resurrect that bit?

    by hercules

Where they said they were about to have a meeting about a new collaboration? The last hour of IFC's documentary explains why nothing ever came of it.

SPOILER: Michael Palin thought it pointless without Graham Chapman's participation, much to Eric Idle's chagrin.

    They were just on Regis!

    by chaztastic

All five (yes Palin was there) and the Chapman cut-out. They again asked were they got the name "Monty Python" and Cleese said it was swahili for "Would you please wipe my ass."
They were much more reserved than Fallons show. Regis must have had no clue about any of the others except for Cleese being in some films since Python ended. Gilliam brought up Dr. Parnassus and Kelly tried to tell him somone was just on talking about it but couldn't remember who and it kind of ended there. They do "repeat" segments now and then. They try to make it seem live by taping new openings. So it may be on again. You can always tell a repeat when there are about four big guests listed.
