Fresh MONTY PYTHON Wednesday & Thursday!!
I am – Hercules!!
To celebrate their 40th anniversary and promote their excellent new six-hour IFC documentary “Monty Python: Almost The Truth” (launching Sunday), the surviving Pythons are in New York.
Tonight they’re the only guests on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” (I'm hopeful Fallon doesn’t make them play beer pong.)
Thursday they’ll reunited again at Manhattan’s Ziegfeld, which you can watch live on IFC.com if you can access a computer.
From a press release:
By visiting IFC.com or PythOnline.com Thursday, October 15 at approximately 9:00 PM EST, audiences across the U.S. can watch the historic event reuniting all five surviving members of the Monty Python team -- John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin -- as they take to the stage for a Q&A discussion with the audience. IFC will produce the live stream in conjunction with UStream, the leading internet broadcasting platform.
This event marks the first time The Pythons have been together in this manner in more than ten years. In true Python fashion, the troupe will somehow appear in its complete six-member form for their 40th reunion, although Python member Graham Chapman died in 1989. The Pythons will also accept a Special Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) honoring their outstanding contribution to film and television.
John Cleese, I notice, will be then be participating in Los Angeles’ Screenwriting Expo on Sunday afternoon.
“Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”: 12:37 p.m. Wednesday. NBC.
“Python Live Ziegfeld Reunion”: 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Thursday. IFC.com
“Monty Python: Almost The Truth”: 9 p.m. Sunday-Friday. IFC.

never can have too much python. i'll be expecting a roots-backed rendition of "sit on my face" on fallon tonight.
-
I meant to say before floppy elbow interrupted.
-
would be classic and make for one of ferguson's most memorable guest spots. his interviewing style and sense of humor would suit that of the pythons better than any other late night host. just writing this makes me realize how awesome that would be. oh well, a boy can dream, can't he? i guess i'll just have to suffer through fallon's monologue. besides, i think america might have a problem with python on ferguson. 6 brits on the their screen at once -- they might mistake it for masterpiece theater and change the channel.

This is easily trumps Yacht Night, from last week.
-
Should have posted, I am so gonna watch Late Night tonight. Darn, posting error.

Getting to meet Gilliam outside before the show was a much bigger thrill than the show itself which was very entertaining, not for the interview segments, but for the schoolboy behavior of the Pythons. Fallon in my opinion isn't so good at "hero worship" interviews. I thought the same thing when he interviewed the Mighty Boosh guys. He's flustered and ultimately there wasn't a single topic covered that hasn't been covered in previous python interviews, and there seemed to be no effort in asking those questions in a "new way". He even asked questions that he said were taken from the IFC documentary series. That all said, Cleese does a segment 2 opening comedy bit that is mostly entertaining because of some randomness from one of the audience "contestants", Cleese and Idle both drop the f-bomb a few times, and they rehashed the "everybody talks at once" bit from the Aspen Comedy Festival reunion. Show ends with Idle singing "Bright Side of Life", which with the Roots as backup, must be some kind of first.
-
maybe he was dictating.. Cool to see them back all at once. That's a weird combo of Bond movies in that blu-ray ad. Goldfinger, Moonraker, and World is Not Enough in one pack? Guess that's the only way most people would buy the last two. Damn marketing!
-
It would be awesome seeing Cleese and Palin do the argument sketch again.
-
not a bad doc,m has some extra moments I hadn't heard yet. but the majority was stuff already covered by previous commentaries, specials and such. Michael Palin's python years diaries are a really great collection of python stories, recollections and other info on the various stages of the group. This doc basically is an outline of palin's diaries only his diaries get far more in depth on what the personal lives of the troupe were.
-
and Lorne has strong ties with Python, thus the Fallon mystery is solved. Maybe we'll see some cameos on SNL this weekend?
-
appeard on Countdown with Keith Olbermann earlier tonight. It was John Clesse, Terry Jones, & Terry Gilliam. If you hurry you can catch them @ the end of the 10 pm rerun or later tonight/morning in the other repeat airings. As a fan & experienced interviewer, Kieth did a fine job. It certainly sounds like he fared better than Fallon.

recommend Trident for their patients who chew gum.
-
...he was not present. A cutout of Chapman was represented.
-
That was a fantastic, fun, intelligent interview.
-
I believe the last time all the Pythons were on stage together was in 1998 at the US Comedy Arts Festival Tribute to Monty Python in Aspen . Graham Chapman’s ashes were reportedly in an urn, which was at one point “accidently” knocked over spilling the contents all over the stage and part of the audience. Wonder if they will resurrect that bit?
-
scared me when I was a kid. Remember that skit where it was a garden party then a guy lost his eye & the piano lid came down on another and cut off his hands? Freaked me out. gushgush~~~
-
That's awesome.
-
He's a terrible interviewer. Now Cleese is really going to want to kill himself.
-
before the throw to commercial or if Idle is just that fast. Great delivery either way.
-
Where the hell is Palin?

That was the funniest Late Night with Fallon will ever be
by givemeanfinbreak
Had me cracking up, the whole episode.
-
They're a great band and I won't be watching them because there is NO way I'm watching Jimmy Fallon ever again. Worst talk show host.....ever. Seriously, I'd rather see a Magic Johnson/Chevy Chase team up talk show than Fallon. The Python gang almost looked embarassed to be there with such a talentless twit.
-
Where they said they were about to have a meeting about a new collaboration? The last hour of IFC's documentary explains why nothing ever came of it.
SPOILER: Michael Palin thought it pointless without Graham Chapman's participation, much to Eric Idle's chagrin. -
that has a diary in it kept by Palin during the shoot & I remember him thinking very highly of Chapman in it. I also remember reading about the squabbles - all those personalites mashing together caused quite a few arguements, I gather.
-
dvd box a little deeper. After them mentioning Peter Cook, I can't remember if it has the Policeman's Balls included.
-
Fallon and Countdown. You'd think Monty Python could get on better shows.
-
Fallon, IFC and the internet? Why not HBO or Conan? I pledged to never watch Fallon ever. Pythons might make me watch it on Hulu. Gnrrrr!
-
have just done the entire show without Fallon, he walks out starts to do a opening bit, the Pythons come out and tie him upthere was some great stuff, the chair bit was great as usual, and them just walking over Fallon...Palin was traveling but we told the auidence he died...the clips at the beginning...The Roots take on Lumberjack Song...Idle and The Roots doing Bright Side of Lifebasically the straight forward interview and the opening were the weak spots
-
Talentless twat.
-
Everybody Hates Jimmy?
-
All five (yes Palin was there) and the Chapman cut-out. They again asked were they got the name "Monty Python" and Cleese said it was swahili for "Would you please wipe my ass."
They were much more reserved than Fallons show. Regis must have had no clue about any of the others except for Cleese being in some films since Python ended. Gilliam brought up Dr. Parnassus and Kelly tried to tell him somone was just on talking about it but couldn't remember who and it kind of ended there. They do "repeat" segments now and then. They try to make it seem live by taping new openings. So it may be on again. You can always tell a repeat when there are about four big guests listed. -
Which wasn't very good. So he has a direct Eric Idle connection.
-
I know its off-topic, and Monty Python rules...but I really thought there would be a 30 Rock TB today...

Fallon, but not Leno? Does NBC WANT Leno's show to fail?
by royston lodge
This woulda been a sure-fire way to boost Leno's ratings.
-
You guys gotta youtube it, just classic.
-
That'd be the 'Salad Days' directed by Sam Peckinpah sketch! Brilliant!
-
Absolutely brutal. I knew Fallon sucked on wheels, but how do you fuck up having Monty Python on the show. The group tried their best, but it was painful to watch.
-
No idea that was directed by Peckinpah! Another bit of triva filed away for later; thanks :)
-
Where are the thursday night threads? Throw us a frickin' bone here.

I'd have the remaining Pythons and Beatles team-up to form a musical comedy group. Sweet Serling's ghost, it would be glorious!!!!
-
it's really funny
-
sure that is not the name of the scetch. bout fuckin died when he started wailing on those lil white fuckers... that was my first introduction the Pythons before i had seen anything else and i was hooked. i also thought the animation was always underappreciated
-
