* The “Hell’s Kitchen” finale won Tuesday night for Fox, which this morning picked up an eighth edition of the reality show and ordered a Dec. 15 “Cook Along” special starring Gordon Ramsay. Baseball takes over next week.

* “NCIS” moved up for the first time this fall, but “NCIS Los Angeles” didn’t follow, scoring its lowest 18-49 number to date. “The Good Wife” hit a new low as well, though it still beat weak timeslot competition “Forgotten” and “Leno.” “Wife” and “NCISLA” just got “back-nine” orders that will take both series to the end of the season.

* The CW’s “Melrose Place” hit a new series low. Original recipe stars Daphne Zuniga, 46, and Heather Locklear, 48, will guest in coming weeks, hoping to bring the numbers that Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro could not.

* Tuesday has been the strongest night for “The Jay Leno Show,” but it just hit a Tuesday-edition low. NBC is hopeful Leno’s prospects will improve in December, when its timeslot competitors go into repeats, but NBC affiliates are growing plenty angry with the big decreases they’re seeing in their post-Leno local newscasts and the NBC late-night line-up.

    Leno and O'briens numbers

    by dougmckenzie

I would say they got 3 weeks left then get replaced by re-runs of Hawaii 5-0 and MacMillan and wife. Sorry had to drop the Larry Sanders show reference. Fox could be owning Tuesday hard with Fringe, but they had to "whip it out" and put it up against Grey's and The Office just to try to prove something. Idiots.

    Leno leading into the news

    by logo lou

I don't watch Leno, but I always think it's funny when the local news bitches if a bad lead in kills their ratings. It just shows all the local news is the same if people don't even bother to switch from the channel they're on. If one news was much better than the rest, people would switch.

DVR to blame for fluctuating ratings?

    by drewlicious

It seems odd that a show would lose around a third of its audience over a week. Perhaps they're just taping it? At any rate I can't imagine that helping ad revenues any. Still curious as to what their strategy for that is.

Tuesday is the weakest night of TV

    by rob0729

It is the only night I don't watch a single primetime show. NBC should move SVU and Fox should move Fringe to Tuesdays rather than let them both get killed at their respective 9PM death slots.

thanks for the tip, i would never have known that if i didn't just see your post. i'm definitely going to check that out. maybe the hilarity of the python gang can balance out the inanity of jimmy fallon as the most unfunny host and worst interviewer on late-night TV (yes, worse than leno on so many levels). i can't wait to watch that python doc on IFC, i've been listening to all my old "monty python live" albums in preparation. that shit is still so fucking funny after all these years.

Nearly all CW shows gained over 40% in ratings on DVR...

    by mr. profit

Supernatural got about 600K more viewers who time shifted the show. 90210 and Melrose got like 50% increase in viewers. And Vampire Diaries averages 4.5 million viewers after DVR is counted. Guess since The CW is a youth oriented network with young viewers. They are all early adopters who are savvy enough to DVR everything they watch. Finally, the only reason to watch "Melrose Place" is for the hotness of Katie Cassidy.

    by billboefett

Fringe actually benefitted by 34% in it's ratings when you account for DVRs.
And I'm sure Herc didn't read it.

    by billboefett

BTW, watched the season premiere of NIP-TUCK. Where have I been? THIS SHOW FUCKING ROCKS. Its just the right combination of miami-vice fashion-music-video surrealism combined with knowing irony and satire. So fucking cool. I'm going to get all back seasons on bluray. Billboefett- "Nip/Tuck"

    by mr. profit

Is not nearly as good as it once was. Season 1 was ok and it ends strong. Season 2 is fucking CRAZY and is the stand out season. Season 3 tried to top 2 and somewhat failed a bit, but overall it was still solid. 4 was uneven and ended very weird. And 5 had shades of old school NT in there but overall the move to LA is a move I don't like. Your best bet is to not
let anyone spoil anything about 1,2 and 3. There are shocks galore....

    Wondering about SoA #'s too

    by jack burton

Haven't seen a renewal notice on it yet, was starting to get worried. This season has been goddamn brilliant. Everyone playing a side, Jax trying to protect Opie even though it is causing them to drift apart, protect the club, change things from within, all while butting heads painfully against Clay. Just a tremendously well done show. It will likely get snubbed come Emmy time but if Katey Sagal at the least isn't nominated it will be a damn tragedy.

"Shit is upside down." Perfect description for the season.

I like that Hell's Kitchen combined their final 2 episodes

into one. Usually they have 2 hours of the final 2. This time they spent almost no time on the chefs making their menus and completely discarded the "design your restaurant" bit.

to the show being repeated on another night the same week. Nice to see The Forgotten getting more episodes ordered. With Hell's Kitchen now over, my only Tuesday US show is The Forgotten. However, Tuesday is a great night for Canadian TV with The Rick Mercer Report and Being Erica.

    by thelastcleric

Easily the best thing on TV right now and as others have mentioned, the second season is even better than the first. Tuesday's climax brought a serious "What the fuck happens now?" to my lips and it just keeps getting better. And Katy Segal is a 53 year old goddess, no two ways about it.

Re: Big Jim: Final two- Hell's Kitchen

    by tomonicker

This season was pretty entertaining but I for one missed the "design your own resturant" phase of Hell's Kitchen, particularly because it is usually quite a trainwreck. I can understand excising it though.
I don't know about anyone else, but I RARELY watch a show at its appointed time anymore, usually if I do, it's by accident not design. The whole thing about DVR'ing is the ability to compress time and lose commercials.

    Re: Nip/Tuck

    by turketron_2

I agree with Mr. Profit, seasons 1-3 of the show were great. Full of surprises. Last season was fucking dumb for the most part, and the show is really running on fumes at this point. However you do get a few gems of awesome, like the over-the-top cheesy VAGINAL REJUVINATION INFOMERCIAL that they made in last night's premiere (complete with a hilariously corny 3 man high-5 ending in a freeze-frame). Christian never disappoints with his assholery, but you seriously have to zone out now whenever they put Matt on screen. Becoming a mime? Seriously? And now, it looks like he's going to be robbing places as a mime? GTFO. I can buy him banging his bilogical half sister and all the ridiculous other shit they have had him do (he's seriously the biggest punching bag of the show) but last night's bullshit took the cake. Also gotta love the recasting of Katee Sackhoff's character with Rose McGowan, who look nothing alike! They couldn't even be bothered to dye her hair blonde! Fucking amateurs.
I'll continue to watch to the end but now it's become somewhat of a chore.

"have to zone out now whenever they put Matt on screen. "

    by big jim

I've never been able to take the character of Matt seriously. He's not so much a character as he is simply the representation of whatever type of son they need for that season. "What if Matt was a scientologist this year and then next season we'll make him a meth addict."After all, this is the guy who, in the very first episode, thought it was a good idea, with instructions found on the internet, to circumcise himself his nail clippers.
